DAILY BREAD FELLOWSHIP DBF-001-028 Today’s Scripture John 2:7 (ESV) “Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ And they filled them up to the brim.” Opening the Scriptures The six large stone jars were standing nearby. Then Jesus gave the servants a simple command: “Fill the jars with water.” The servants did not yet know what Jesus was going to do. The wedding needed wine, yet Jesus told them to bring water. From a human point of view, the command may have seemed unrelated to the problem. But the servants obeyed. John adds an important detail: “They filled them up to the brim.” They did not partially obey. They did not fill the jars halfway and decide that was enough. They carried out the command completely. They still did not know what would happen next. They simply did what Jesus told them to do. Living God’s Word Today There is an important lesson here about Christian obedience. We often want God to explain everything before we obey Him. We want to know why. We want to know what will happen. We want to understand how obedience will benefit us. But obedience to Christ cannot depend upon our understanding of the outcome. When God has spoken clearly in His Word, our responsibility is to obey. Sometimes His commands will challenge us. Forgive. Love your enemies. Speak the truth. Flee from sin. Care for those in need. Share the Gospel. Remain faithful when obedience becomes costly. We may not always understand what God is accomplishing through our obedience. The servants at Cana certainly did not. But they filled the jars “up to the brim.” There is also a warning for us here. Partial obedience is often disguised disobedience. We cannot faithfully follow Christ while selecting only the commands we find comfortable. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Our obedience does not earn salvation. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ, not by our works. But a life transformed by Christ should increasingly become a life of obedience to Christ. The servants could fill the jars. They could not perform the miracle. That belonged entirely to Jesus. The same distinction remains important for us. Our responsibility is faithful obedience. The results belong to God. Today, do not demand to see the outcome before obeying. Trust Christ enough to do what He has commanded. And when you obey, do not stop halfway. Fill it to the brim. Question for Today Is there an area where you have been giving Christ only partial obedience? Respond: “Lord Jesus, help me to obey You completely.”

What Does It Mean To Be Saved? To be saved means to be rescued by God from the penalty, power, and ultimately the presence of sin, and brought into a right relationship with Himself through Jesus Christ alone. The Problem: Why You Need to Be Saved All humans are born under the curse of Adam's sin. Because God is holy and just, sin separates you from Him and places you under His righteous judgment (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23). You cannot save yourself by being good enough, religious enough, or sincere enough. Your best works are like filthy rags before a perfectly holy God (Isaiah 64:6). What Salvation Is Salvation is God's act of rescuing sinners through the finished work of Jesus Christ. It involves several realities that happen together: Regeneration (New Birth): The Holy Spirit gives you new spiritual life. You are born again. Apart from this, you are dead in your trespasses and unable to seek God on your own (Ephesians 2:1-5, John 3:3-8). Faith and Repentance: You respond to the gospel by turning from sin (repentance) and trusting in Christ alone (faith). These are two sides of the same movement—turning from sin and to the Savior (Acts 20:21, Romans 10:9-10). Justification: God declares you righteous, not because of anything in you, but because Christ's perfect righteousness is credited to your account and His punishment for your sin is credited to Christ. You stand before God as if you had never sinned, clothed in Christ's righteousness (Romans 3:24-26, 2 Corinthians 5:21). Adoption: You are brought into God's family as a beloved child. You are no longer an enemy but an heir (Galatians 4:4-7, Romans 8:15-17). Sanctification: The Holy Spirit begins the lifelong work of making you actually holy in your daily life, conforming you to the image of Christ (Philippians 2:12-13, Romans 8:29). Glorification: At Christ's return, you will receive a resurrected body, free from all sin, suffering, and death. This is the final completion of salvation (Romans 8:30, 1 Corinthians 15:52-54). How You Are Saved By grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to Scripture alone, for the glory of God alone. There is no other name under heaven by which you can be saved (Acts 4:12). Salvation is entirely God's work from start to finish. You contribute nothing to your rescue except the sin that made it necessary. What Salvation Looks Like in a Person's Life A truly saved person will bear fruit. This does not mean perfection, but it does mean a changed life—a growing hatred of sin, a growing love for God and His people, and a persistent faith that endures to the end (James 2:17, 1 John 2:3-6, Matthew 7:16-20). If there is no change at all, there is reason to question whether salvation has actually taken place. The Bottom Line To be saved is to be brought from death to life, from condemnation to justification, from slavery to sin to adoption as a child of God, and from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of Christ. It is entirely a work of God's grace, received by faith, and it results in a life that increasingly reflects the supremacy of Christ. If you are asking this for yourself: repent of your sin, trust in Christ's death and resurrection alone, and you will be saved.

We are not made right with God because we have lived perfectly, worked hard enough, or earned His approval. Today, stop trying to prove that you are worthy. Lay every failure at the feet of Jesus and receive the gift only He can give. Not my righteousness, but His. Not my perfection, but His grace. THE LORDSHIP OF THE MAN JESUS CHRIST IS BASIC One of things the Devil fears the most is our understanding of the man Jesus Christ; who He is to the believer. The Bible says God has made this man—Jesus Christ—both Lord and Christ. Did you notice the order it arranges these titles? Lord and then Christ (that is, Messiah or Saviour) Many want Jesus to be their Saviour but they do not want Him as their Lord. That is why they jump from prophets to prophets, prayer meetings to prayer meetings, all in search of solutions. They want Jesus to save them but He must never dictate to them. But He must your Lord before He can save you. If you will not trust Him enough to accept that He knows the way, how can He rescue you from drowning? Yet this same people will not argue with their doctor! The Lordship of Christ is where the power in Christianity is. You must surrender your will to that of Christ to become powerful. God’s power is manifestly strong only when you become weak in the eyes of man. In the eyes of the world, you will look weak and powerless but this is the exact position that qualifies you for God’s divine visitation and intervention. Jesus said He has not come to call the righteous to repentance. He hasn’t come to save those who believes they are strong enough to save themselves either. Who will teach this generation the dynamics of power? To be strong, you have to be ready to look weak, to be rich you have to be willing to become poor. To be known, you have to be ready to become unknown, while following Christ. This is God’s way. It is called the way of the Cross. Until you learn it, you remain in the wilderness.

Guidelines for living. August 21st, 2026 Here’s The Only Way to Begin to Love This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:10-11 The greatest rivers in the world usually begin on the cold, frozen slopes of high mountains as the sun begins to melt snow and ice, and from the trickle of crystal-clear water a steam begins to flow and eventually a cascade of water plummets down the mountain. In the valley far below, the stream becomes a river, then a great river which we call the Nile, the Amazon, the Ganges, the Rhine, or whatever. By the time these massive bodies of water reach the ocean, they may be kilometers wide, and they are muddy and polluted. Now, apply that same concept to the biblical truth that God is love. John tells us this in the New Testament, and the farther we are from Him, seemingly the more polluted love becomes. By the time it has been filtered through human lust, what we call love is a far cry from the compelling love which caused God to send His Son long ago. Love is not a platitude, it is an action, an unconditional commitment to care, a decision of your heart. True, love is what the world needs. The words of a song popular a generation ago said it all: “The world is dying, dying for a little bit of love,” says one verse. If you’ve been following this series based on Paul’s great chapter on love, found in the New Testament in 1 Corinthians 13, you have focused on love’s characteristics, but any discussion of the subject would be incomplete without a few words of encouragement for you whose river of love has either evaporated in the desert of life, or else become so polluted you hardly know what the real thing is. When God touches your heart, your life will change. God takes up residence in your life, and the mud of sin is washed away. When pollution is eliminated, you start loving. This is the miracle of conversion. This is the answer to the lovelessness and the selfishness which destroys relationships. Joining a church, turning over a new leaf, going to confession, just “being religious,” is not the solution. A relationship with God through His son is the only way you will really begin to love. I will give you three simple guidelines that will help. Guideline #1: Acknowledge you need a relationship with God and confess that sin has stopped the flow of love in your life. It’s easy to point a finger and say, “Well, it was his fault; her fault.” The solution is saying, “God, I need you. Forgive me. Touch my life.” Guideline #2: Ask God’s forgiveness for your failure—not the other person’s—and ask Him to be Lord and Savior. Jesus gave us a promise. He said, “I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and have fellowship with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20). That promise has your name on it, friend. Guideline #3: Begin loving in simple steps, one day at a time. When you fail and fall back into those old habits and a loveless way, quickly admit your wrong; ask God’s help to overcome it. Friend, you can talk about love until you have calluses on your vocal cords, but until you get back to the fountain and the source of love, who is God Himself, you’ll never lay hold of the real thing: the God kind of love that changes the world. So, go back to the source. It’s the only way to fill your cup and have enough left over for someone else in your life. Love is not a pious platitude. It’s the answer. Resource Reading: 1 John 4:1-21

The Advent Truth. CONSCIOUSNESS DOES NOT DETERMINE HUMAN VALUE. One increasingly common argument says that ending the life of a developing child isn't really taking a human life because the child isn't yet conscious. But think carefully about that standard. Since when does consciousness determine whether a human being has the right to live? A person who is asleep isn't consciously aware of the world around them. A patient under general anesthesia isn't consciously experiencing their surroundings. Someone knocked unconscious in an accident may temporarily have no awareness whatsoever. Would that make intentionally ending their life acceptable? Of course not. That's because our value as human beings isn't created by our current level of consciousness. And there's another problem: newborn babies don't possess anything close to the developed self-awareness, reasoning ability, memory, or cognitive capacity of adults. If consciousness determines human worth, exactly HOW MUCH consciousness is enough? Where is the line? And who gets to draw it? The Bible gives us a radically different foundation for human value: "So God created man in his own image..." — Genesis 1:27 Our value comes from WHO created us—not how much we can currently think, understand, communicate, remember, or accomplish. David said: "Thou hast covered me in my mother's womb... Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect." — Psalm 139:13,16 Jeremiah was told: "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee." — Jeremiah 1:5 And Luke describes John before birth using the Greek word brephos—"baby"—the SAME word used for Jesus after His birth (Luke 1:41,44; 2:12,16). Before birth and after birth: a developing human life. Human worth cannot safely be based on intelligence, independence, size, location, development, or consciousness. Once we make human dignity dependent upon possessing certain abilities, human rights stop being inherent and become something the powerful decide who qualifies for. Human life has value because human beings bear the image of God.

Give God Control (Proverbs 3:5–6) One of the hardest things to do is let go. We want to control our future. Our plans. Our relationships. Our careers. Our finances. Our reputation. Even the things we pray about. We often tell God what we want and then quietly expect Him to follow our plan. But trusting God means something deeper. It means being willing to say: “Lord, I trust You—even when Your plan is different from mine.” The Bible says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Notice the instruction: Trust. Not partially. Not only when everything makes sense. With all your heart. Sometimes we struggle to trust God because we want to know exactly what will happen next. But faith doesn't require knowing the entire future. Faith means trusting the One who already knows it. Think about Peter when Jesus called him to step out of the boat. The water was still there. The storm was still around him. But Peter had to decide whether he would trust Jesus enough to take the step. Sometimes God is asking you to take a step before you have all the answers. Maybe you need to start something. Maybe you need to stop something. Maybe you need to forgive. Maybe you need to wait. Maybe you need to surrender a dream. Maybe you need to give God control of a relationship, career decision, or future you have been trying desperately to manage yourself. Surrender doesn't mean giving up on life. It means giving up the illusion that you have to control everything. There are things you can control: Your choices. Your attitude. Your obedience. Your words. Your effort. Your response. But there are also things you cannot control: Other people's decisions. Tomorrow. The economy. Every outcome. Every opportunity. Every circumstance. Trying to control what belongs outside your control will eventually leave you exhausted. So give those things to God. Pray about them. Do your part faithfully. Then trust Him with the results. And remember: Surrender is not weakness. It is an expression of faith. Jesus demonstrated the ultimate example of surrender in the garden of Gethsemane. Facing the cross, He prayed to the Father and submitted to God's will. That obedience brought salvation to humanity. The cross reminds us that God's plan can accomplish something far greater than what we can see in the moment. Maybe you don't understand your current season. Maybe you're asking: “Why is this happening?” Instead of only asking God to change the situation, try asking: “Lord, what are You teaching me through this?” Sometimes God changes the circumstances. Sometimes He changes us. And sometimes He does both. Whatever you're facing today, don't carry it as though everything depends on you. Give God your fears. Give Him your plans. Give Him your mistakes. Give Him your future. Give Him your unanswered questions. And then trust Him one day at a time. You may not know what tomorrow holds. But you know who holds tomorrow. Release what you cannot control and trust the God who can. Today, take a quiet moment and pray: “Lord, I surrender my plans, my fears, and my future to You. Help me trust Your wisdom more than my own understanding. Lead me where You want me to go, and give me the courage to follow. "THREE LEVELS OF ATTACK (1)" ‘…command that these stones become bread.’ Matthew 4:3 NKJV THE BIBLE says, ‘…Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil’ (Matthew 4:1 NKJV). This seems to be God’s standard operating procedure. Why? Because He’s a good general; before He puts you into battle He puts you into boot camp. Imagine it: you’re up at dawn, running for miles with a heavy backpack, crawling under barbed wire barriers with bullets whizzing over your head, taking orders from authority figures you don’t know and probably don’t like. But if you pass the test; you get to wear the uniform. On the threshold of His ministry, God led His Son into a situation where He would face three levels of attack. You will face them also. Let’s look at the first one: The attack over the bread. Did Jesus need bread? Yes, He’d been without food for forty days. But He knew that His greatest need was not for natural food but spiritual food. So He told satan, ‘…“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’’ (Matthew 4:4 NKJV). Only when you’re convinced God will take care of all your material needs, will you start putting spiritual things first in your life. Until that happens, you’ll think you have to take care of yourself. As a result, you will walk in fear and not faith. That’s not how God wants you to live. ‘…seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you’ (Matthew 6:33 NKJV). When you worry, you don’t trust God. And they brought unto him a penny. 20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. 22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. *Timeless Truth:*_"For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's"_ (1 Corinthians 6:20). *INTRODUCTION* In human relationships, there are vain talkers who do not hide their intention to disgrace, humiliate, embarrass and insult us. However, most vain talkers are friendly foes with evil intentions, but with a friendly approach. If they are not handled with wisdom, they will mess up, disgrace and embarass the saints and the preachers, thus, making their messages of non effect or impact. Paul the apostle himself with Apostolic anointing encountered such people like Jesus encountered them in the text. *"For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision, Whose mouths must be stopped"* (Titus 1:10,11). Jesus was confronted by people who did not genuinely seek the truth, but wanted to trap Him with their questions. Their outward appearance suggested sincerity, but their hearts were deceptive. Jesus, however, perceived their wicked intentions and responded with divine wisdom. Believers will also encounter vain talkers—people whose words are deceptive, provocative, argumentative or designed to lead others away from truth. We must, therefore, learn from Christ how to respond with spiritual perception, scriptural wisdom and personal conviction. *1. Spiritual and Scriptural Perception* a. Topical Encyclopedia rightly defines spiritual perception as the ability to discern and understand spiritual truths and realities that are not accessible through natural senses or human reasoning alone. It involves a heightened awareness and insight into the spiritual realm, often granted by the Holy Spirit to believers. Spiritual perception by the Holy Spirit, can read into the mind and at times (not in all cases) decipher the motivations and intentions of the heart. It is a lower form of the gift of discernment. They brought the coin with the inscription of Caesar and questioned Jesus on whether it was right to pay taxes to the government. Jesus knew they wanted to rope Him into public controversy that will put Him into trouble with the government of the day. If Jesus said it was right to pay tributes to Caesar, they would use that to paint Jesus as anti-Jewish. If Jesus said it is not right, they would end up putting him at a collision course with the government of the day. Either controversy can be avoided without necessarily doing violence to the truth. He was not a pro-controversy minister on avoidable spiritual or vain conflicts. Many ministers always enjoy being entangled in controversy on things that are non-essentials in the things of the kingdom. Jesus knew their wickedness and said, *“Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?”* Their question was not an innocent request for guidance; it was a trap. Christ could see beyond their words into their motives. Spiritual perception enables believers to distinguish between genuine questions and deceptive arguments. We must not be carried away by eloquent speech, clever reasoning or religious appearance. The Word of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit give us discernment to recognize what is behind seemingly innocent conversations. b. Nehemiah, for example, was given a seemingly innocent and reconciliatory invitation by his adversaries. He knew that it was not of God. *"And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him"*. Believers, especially spiritual leaders, must have enough of scriptural understanding and insight of the truth that will generate spiritual perception by the Holy Spirit. However, there are unscriptural perceptions or incorrect insights in the form of a suspicious spirit that always read negative meanings into the actions of the innocent. This is satanic and ungodly. *Question* Do I have sufficient spiritual discernment to recognize deception and vain arguments when I encounter them? *2. Saints as the Saviour’s Possession* a. Jesus revealed deep spiritual truth to them while answering their question. It is one thing to receive an answer to a genuine question and another thing to be patient enough to get the message in the answer. Jesus asked them to show Him the tribute money and then asked whose image and inscription were upon it. When they answered, *"Caesar’s"* . Jesus declared unto them that though He is the Creator of all, He will not take what belongs to others or even what he has bequeathed to others except He was given voluntarily. The metal used for the coin belongs to God, but it has been given to the king and the use is delegated to powers that be. Jesus would not take the gift back except if the gifted decided to endow it back to the Owner or the Creator. He will not forcefully, stylishly or trickishly take back what He has given to others. This is a deep spiritual message that we can learn from God. Jesus declared, *“Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.”* b. What is the implication of this answer? The coin carried Caesar’s image and therefore must be given to the owner. Also, human beings, including his body, soul and spirit bear the image of God (Genesis 1:26–27), therefore, man must surrender his soul, spirit and body to God to be used at His pleasure being the Owner. Reluctance to give oneself to God, the Owner, is daylight robbery which God the Creator will not even do to those He gave something to. We are owned by God as His possession by Creation and Redemption. Without redemption by Jesus Christ, we are all marked for eternal destruction. *"For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's"*. So, our appearance, body, heart and soul must be consciously and deliberately given to the glory of God, joyfully. The language of the responsible creature to his Creator is like what a king said: *"And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have"*. Our spirit, soul, time, possessions and all that we have belong to God and none should be denied Him at any time He needs them. Like Thomas, our response to God whenever He demands sacrifice or anything from us, no matter how precious is *"My Lord and my God"*. It is a language of acknowledgement of His being the Creator. It is a language of appreciation of being the Redeemer. *Question* Since I belong to Christ, am I allowing His image and ownership to determine the way I live? Am I always readily giving Him what His Word demands without hesitation or reluctance? *3. Satisfied without Scripture Personalization* When Jesus answered their question, *“they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.”* They were amazed by His wisdom, but there is no indication that they surrendered their hearts to His truth. They did not bother to apply the truth to their lives and personalized it. It is possible to admire Scripture, appreciate a powerful message and even marvel at divine wisdom without personally applying it. The danger of vain talk is that we may become satisfied with intellectual discussion rather than spiritual transformation. God’s Word must move from our ears to our hearts and from our hearts to our daily conduct. The messages of Christ are so deep that they require constant and continuous reflection and self application in order to get the best from them. FRIDAY 21ST AUGUST 2026 Topic: The Friend Who Pulls You Closer Bible Reference “Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NKJV) A Short Story Daniel had always considered himself strong enough to make his own decisions. He believed that no friend could influence him if he did not want to be influenced. Then he became close to a group of young people who seemed confident, successful, and exciting. At first, there was nothing obviously wrong with the friendship. They talked, joked, helped one another, and spent time together. But slowly, Daniel began changing. They started making fun of people who took their faith seriously. Daniel laughed along, even when some of the jokes made him uncomfortable. Soon, he stopped attending some church meetings because his friends had other plans. His prayer life also became weaker. Whenever he wanted to pray, someone was calling him to hang out. Whenever he wanted to read his Bible, there was another conversation waiting on his phone. One Sunday morning, Daniel's older cousin asked him a simple question. “Are your friends helping you become the person you have been praying to become?” Daniel became silent. He had never looked at his friendships that way before. He began to realize that his friends were not necessarily bad people, but their influence was taking him somewhere he did not want to go. Daniel decided to become more intentional about the people he allowed close to him. He did not hate his old friends. He simply understood that not everyone could have the same level of access to his life. Over time, he became close to people who encouraged his faith, challenged him to grow, and reminded him of his purpose. Today's Message The people around you can influence you more than you realize. Your friends can affect your language, habits, choices, relationships, spiritual life, and even your understanding of what is normal. The Bible warns us not to be deceived because bad company can corrupt good character. This does not mean you should hate people who do not share your faith. Jesus Himself reached people who were far from God. But there is a difference between influencing people and allowing people to influence you away from God. Be intentional about your closest friendships. Ask yourself whether the people closest to you are helping you become more disciplined, more godly, more focused, and more purposeful. A good friend will not always tell you what you want to hear. Sometimes, a good friend will tell you the truth because they care about who you are becoming. Choose friends who make it easier, not harder, to walk with God. What To Do Today 1. Examine the influence of your closest friends. 2. Spend more time with people who encourage your spiritual growth. 3. Do not be afraid to create healthy boundaries with negative influences. 4. Be the kind of friend who also helps others become better. Prayer Lord, give me wisdom in choosing my friends. Surround me with people who will encourage me to follow You and fulfil my purpose.
