If you’ve prayed for the fulfilment of a Bible promise that didn’t materialise, you may have wondered, felt disillusioned, or even stopped trusting. What’s true is that every promise in the Book intended for you, is yours! God is committed to keeping every promise He has made (Matthew 24:35). So how can you know which Bible promises are yours? Here are some scriptural guidelines to help you: 1) Be sure you understand the promise. God is committed to His Word, not to your interpretation of it. When Jesus said, ‘…Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up’ (John 2:19 NKJV), His audience completely misunderstood Him, thinking He meant the literal temple when He meant His body. 2) Walk in the Spirit, not the flesh. Walking in the Spirit, Peter received divine understanding of Christ’s deity. When Jesus asked, ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘…this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father…’ (Matthew 16:15-17 NIV). Soon afterwards, walking in the flesh, the same man totally misunderstood Jesus and was severely rebuked by Jesus (Matthew 16:21-23). Why? Because ‘…the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God…nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned’ (1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV). He went on to intercede for precisely that.* *With humanity now also traumatised by sporadic assaults coming through technological inventions like Artificial Intelligence (AI), wars, insecurity, dysfunctional governance, threats of nuclear conflagration, there are fears that man is on the brink, looking into the bottomless abyss. Really? Not so. The Christian is challenged, rather, like Habakkuk, to plead for revival among the turmoil. It is the hour to ask for an unprecedented move of God's Spirit in the world, an event that should usher multitudes to repentance and turning to Christ for succour in trying times.* *The Lord's second coming is imminent, going by the signs we are witnessing. There are many contemporary cases of revival in addition to the one in Bible days. Jonah was used by God to bring Revival to the people of Nineveh where all the 120,000 inhabitants got convicted and converted. There were revivals in Israel during the time of king Hezekiah and Josiah. The Early Church also experienced great revival immediately after the Pentecost. When there is spiritual coldness and indifference to spiritual things, when there is no clear distinction between the world and the Church, when saints are distracted from heavenly desire to earthly preoccupation, then revival is needed. When the saints are weak, powerless and fainting in scriptural conviction and consecration, then we need revival. When formalism and entertainment fill our worship instead of true and holy devotion to God and heavenly things, revival is needed. In order to experience revival, there must be deep concern and burden for prayer coupled with passion for revival. It takes a revived person to be an instrument of revival. *1. The Man of Prayer* a. The man God uses must be a man of bended knees with power of prayer. *"A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.”* Habakkuk was not merely a prophet who preached; he was also a man who prayed. His direct communication with God was not clogged. God could express His mind and vision to him clearly and He also could hear from God and communicate with God effectively and fruitfully. He was a true servant of God that stood between God and man as mediator. He lived a life that was pleasing to God and God could speak to him about people. He dwelt in the midst of compromised and corrupted people without being defiled and with boldness to declare unto them their sins and evil as God had told him without fear or favour. His response to the difficult circumstances surrounding Judah was to seek God. The spiritual condition of a nation should drive God's servants to their knees. Revival begins when someone becomes sufficiently burdened to pray as he comes out of the cocoon of self seeking and self satisfaction. b. There is no revival that ever came in human history without people who had the passion and power of prayer from God. Habakkuk's prayer demonstrates that prayer is not a sign of weakness, but an expression of dependence upon the Almighty. The revival God wants to bring may begin with one person who is willing to stand before Him in persistent intercession. Churches need prayer warriors who will carry the burden of their generation before God. The praying saints or warriors that bring revival concentrate their prayers on heavenly things and not on earthly benefits and blessings. Earnest, consistent and persistent prayers by holy people with deep burden and passion for the glory of God, salvation of souls and perfection of saints are indispensable to a true God sent revival. *Question* Am I sufficiently burdened by the spiritual condition of my generation to become a man or woman of prayer? *2. The Manifestation of Passion* *"O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid"*. Habakkuk's prayer reveals intense spiritual passion. Having heard God's Word and understood His dealings with His people, he was moved deeply. He was such a person that was not indifferent to the Word of God. The Word of God moved, burned and melted his heart. It became fire in his bones that only revival could quench. First he heard the voice of God. Second he was afraid. He was like Noah who, after hearing the Word of God, believed and *"being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house"* (Hebrews 11:7). True passion for God is not passive. It actively engages in things that will bring change and revival. b. Passion for revival means longing to see God glorified, sinners saved, believers renewed and righteousness restored. Habakkuk did not ask God merely to improve circumstances; he asked Him to revive His work. True revival passion is therefore God-centred rather than man-centred. We must pray until spiritual hunger replaces spiritual complacency. *Question* Does my prayer life demonstrate a genuine passion for God to revive His work in my generation? *3. The Mercy from the Potentate* a. What does this world need desperately from God? Mercy! The degree of worldliness and ungodliness are inexcusable. Man deliberately lives his life, spurning His Word and commandments as if God does not exist. Saints' lives are soiled with carnality, worldliness and corruption. Their focus has shifted from serving the Lord to what mundane things the Lord will give to them. b. Passionate prayer for the mercy of God is an indication that we accept that God has been offended and He is angry at us because of our coldness and carnality. It should always be a prayer point constantly. *“In the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.”* Habakkuk recognized God as the sovereign Potentate who has authority to judge, revive, restore and show mercy. He therefore pleaded, *“in wrath remember mercy.”* Revival cannot be manufactured by human ability; it must come through divine mercy and sovereign intervention. The prophet understood that although God's people might deserve judgment, God's mercy could provide restoration. This should encourage us to approach God humbly and plead for mercy upon the Church, families, communities, and nations. When God shows mercy, dry bones can live again, cold hearts can burn again and His work can flourish again. *Question* Am I humbly pleading with the sovereign God to remember mercy and revive His work in our generation? Our Prayer for the Nations Tonight Heavenly Father, As we go to bed tonight, we lift before You the nations and peoples who are suffering under oppression, political injustice, poverty, unemployment, conflict, and bad governance. Remember those whose voices have been silenced, those who struggle to feed their families, young people whose opportunities have been taken away, and communities that have lived too long without peace and dignity. Your Word says: “He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy and shall break in pieces the oppressor.” Psalm 72:4 (KJV) Lord, we ask You to rise for the poor, the oppressed, the displaced, and the forgotten. Give wisdom and conscience to those who govern nations. Turn the hearts of leaders toward justice, accountability, compassion, and peace. Restrain those who use political power to oppress their people and raise up leaders who will serve rather than exploit. We also remember the teaching of the Book of Mormon: “And now, my brethren, I would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath.” Mosiah 4:21 Teach us, Lord, not to look away from the suffering of others. Give us generous hearts and willing hands to help those in need. Open doors of honest employment and opportunity for the unemployed. Provide food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, education for children, and hope for families struggling under poverty. Where there is war, bring peace. Where there is oppression, bring freedom. Where there is injustice, establish righteousness. Where there is poverty, provide provision. Where there is unemployment, open doors. Where there is corruption, raise voices of integrity. Where there is despair, restore hope. Father, make us instruments of Your peace. Give us courage to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and wisdom to pursue justice without hatred or violence. As we sleep tonight, watch over the nations. Protect the innocent, strengthen the suffering, comfort those who mourn, and prepare a better tomorrow for those who have almost lost hope. May Your justice prevail, your peace reign, and Your mercy reach every oppressed people and every struggling family. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Psalm 82:8 Explained Psalm 82:8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations. This is where the Psalm turns. Everything from verse 1 to 7 was the problem. Verse 8 is the prayer and the solution. 1. The Background: The sons of God Failed In verse 1, God is standing in the congregation of the mighty. He is judging among the "gods." These are not earthly kings. These are the sons of God, the earthly angels that were assigned to watch over men. Verses 2 to 4 list the charges. Judge not unjustly. Defend the poor. Deliver the needy. They failed. They became complacent. Then in verses 6 and 7 comes the sentence. I have said, Ye are gods, But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. God is stripping them of office. Their tenure is over. By the time we reach verse 8, the watchmen have failed. Evil is prospering. There is no justice on the earth. 2. Arise, O God, judge the earth Now David speaks. This is no longer God talking. This is a man crying out in the spirit. “Arise” means stand up. Take action. Intervene. It is what Israel always said when delegated authority failed and they needed God to fight for them. Why is David saying this? Because the sons of God refused to do their work. When the watchers become complacent, God Himself must come down and do what they refused to do. So verse 8 is David saying: God, if they will not judge, YOU judge. If they will not defend the poor, YOU defend them. 3. For thou shalt inherit all nations. This is prophetic. “Inherit” means to take possession. To own. To rule as King. David is seeing that the system of delegated rule to Earthly angels has failed. The nations were supposed to be governed through righteous sons of God. But they fell into folly. So now God Himself will take direct ownership of the nations. There are two fulfillments here: A. Immediate God will remove those corrupt gods and raise up new order. New men. New nations. Righteous judgment. B. Messianic This points straight to Christ. Psalm 2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance. Revelation 11:15 The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ. Verse 8 is David prophesying: The failed priesthood of the sons of God will be replaced. God will inherit the nations through the Son. That Son is Jesus Christ. The true King of Righteousness and King of Peace. Greater than Melchizedek. 4. Why This Verse Matters Psalm 82 begins with God judging His judges. It ends with David asking God to judge the whole earth. The movement is clear: Failed Earthly governance by the sons of God → Divine intervention of God directly → Global inheritance of all kingdoms on Earth and in heaven through Jesus Christ the Son. It is a prayer for regime change. Not just in heaven’s council, but here on earth. David is saying: The experiment of committing the earth to fallible sons has failed. Now God, take the throne Yourself. And God answered that prayer. Jesus came as the perfect Son of God. He did not commit folly. He defended the poor. He executed justice. And now, all authority in heaven and in earth has been given unto Him. Matthew 28:18 Bottom Line Psalm 82:8 is both a lament and a prophecy. Lament: The watchers failed us. Prophecy: But God will arise and inherit the nations. Psalm 82 is the failure report of the sons of God. Verse 8 is the prayer that finds its answer in Jesus Christ, the perfect Son of God.

Moses was born, prepared, and eventually sent by God to lead Israel out of Egypt. This reveals a powerful truth: God often responds to the cries of a generation by raising people who will become part of the answer. Moses was not born by accident. His arrival was connected to a divine assignment. There was a cry in Egypt, and God had already prepared a deliverer. In the same way, your birth, location, family, community, and generation are not accidents. God has positioned you somewhere for a purpose. There may be a cry in your community for transformation, and God may have raised you to become part of the answer. There may be a cry for good governance, integrity, justice, and righteous leadership, and God may be preparing you to bring change. There may be a cry within your family for someone to arise and break cycles of poverty, oppression, ignorance, or darkness, and God may have positioned you to become that person. Sometimes we complain about the very things God has given us an assignment to address. We lament about corruption but do not pursue integrity. We complain about poverty but do not develop solutions. We complain about the condition of our families but do not take responsibility for becoming agents of change. We complain about the state of our communities, churches, workplaces, and nations while waiting for someone else to arise. Child of God, perhaps the cry you hear is the reason God positioned you there. Moses could have remained in Midian and continued with his own life, but God called him back to Egypt because there was a people who needed deliverance. Your assignment may require you to leave your comfort zone and step into the place where your generation needs you. Therefore, arise from sleep, slumber, fear, excuses, and procrastination. Discover what God has entrusted to you and begin to take faithful steps toward fulfilling it. That business you desire to establish, that ministry God has placed in your heart, that family you desire to transform, that community you desire to influence, or that change you desire to see may not happen through complaints and murmuring. Someone must arise and take the first step. Do not wait for perfect conditions before you begin. Moses had limitations, questions, and fears, yet God still called him. What matters is not that you have everything figured out, but that you are willing to surrender yourself to God and allow Him to work through you. THE HIGH COST OF UNVETTED TRUST: BIBLICAL WISDOM ON NATIONAL, SPIRITUAL, AND MINISTERIAL BOUNDARIES 1/ Proverbs 20:16 in the NASB 1995 reads: "Take his garment when he becomes surety for a stranger; And for foreigners, hold him in pledge." While modern ears might find this instruction severe, Scripture is providing an essential lesson on stewardship, governance, and spiritual boundaries. 2/ On a physical and economic level, standing as surety means guaranteeing the debt of another person. Biblical wisdom warns that co-signing for a stranger without collateral or proof of character is financial recklessness. Entrusting capital to unproven individuals invites ruin for households, corporations, and entire nations. 3/ Today, political movements frequently weaponize Old Testament commands to love the stranger, selectively stripping those verses of their original context. Ancient biblical law did extend hospitality to foreigners, but it explicitly required assimilation, obedience to the law of the land, and a commitment to the nation's God and moral order. 4/ Socialist and progressive ideologies warp these scriptures to justify open-ended state funding and unchecked immigration. True Christian charity is voluntary, sacrificial, and wise. Forcing taxpayers to act as financial guarantors for unvetted foreigners is not compassion; it is state-mandated recklessness that violates biblical principles of stewardship. 5/ When leaders compel a country to assume responsibility for individuals who have not demonstrated worthiness or a commitment to assimilate, they destroy the foundation of the nation state. A government that bankrupts its own citizens to fund unproven entities abdicates its primary duty: to protect and serve its own household first. 6/ On a spiritual level, this verse addresses the guardrails of the mind and heart. In scripture, garments represent our moral standing, thoughts, words, and choices. When you become surety for a stranger spiritually, you are allowing unvetted ideas, worldly philosophies, or destructive habits to take host in your soul. 7/ This same betrayal occurs within controlling and abusive Christian ministries. When spiritual leaders twist the Word of God by blending it with Greek philosophy, secular ideologies, or humanistic psychology to dominate others, they give in to their own evil inclination. By substituting man's wisdom for divine truth, they cross over into the realm of spiritual idolatry. 8/ These abusive systems surrender the pure garments of faith to foreign deceptions. By replacing biblical truth with psychological manipulation and authoritarian control, they abandon true shepherdhood and lead believers onto the other side of spiritual corruption. 9/ God calls His people to be generous, but never naive. Genuine compassion always operates within the framework of order, law, and absolute truth. Whether in national policy, church leadership, or personal faith, true strength requires discerning boundaries over reckless sentimentality and subtle heresy.

Grace and mercy qualified him especially, because of the deep humility and fear of God in his life as at the time he was made king. King Saul began his reign with great promise. He was divinely chosen, physically impressive and empowered by God for leadership (1 Samuel 10:1, 9). Yet, his life ended in shame because of persistent disobedience, self-will and refusal to seek the Lord sincerely. The text not only shows the death of Saul, but also the collapse of a royal dynasty that could have enjoyed lasting honour. It reminds us that a good beginning does not guarantee a glorious ending. Only continual obedience, humility and dependence on God preserve a life, ministry, or family legacy. Those who think that they cannot lose whatever they receive from God, including eternal salvation, should learn from the life and end of Saul. *1. The Fall and Defeat of God's Giants* a. Saul and his sons were once regarded as the giants of Israel's military strength. They fought along with their father to win virtually all their battles except this last one. Even when they were not well prepared, God helped and strengthened them to be terrors to the nations around. *"So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them"* (1 Samuel 14:47). Victory was their birthright because of their allegiance to the God of heaven. He and his sons were giants in the hands of God. This time around, they all fell and were defeated the same day. They were not only captured, but were killed. What an avoidable tragedy that a promising and blessed first Royal family, that could have been a reference point of God's goodness and blessings, experienced. They all perished in a single day. b.How did they fall? It did not happen overnight. First, was the loss of focus. He allowed the enemy and jealousy to shift his attention from his divinely given responsibility to pursuing David who actually was not a threat. The deception of great position, persistence disobedience to the Word of God and the habit of taking God's warnings and Word for granted hardened his heart. The tragedy was not due merely to military weakness, but to spiritual failure that had accumulated over time. When those whom God raises fail to remain faithful, their strength cannot save them. Every believer must guard against drifting from God, regardless of past victories or present status. King Saul did not just lose his exalted blessings, but he also booked, signed and sealed he appointments to eternal condemnation in hell fire. *Question* Am I depending on past achievements or am I walking daily in humble obedience to God? *2. The Forceful Decimation of a Great General* a. King Saul ended his record as the first king in Israel who committed suicide and thus, ending his God-given life forcefully. He could have perished in the battle and still made heaven if in his final hours he decided to cry to God for mercy and forgiveness. Rather than trust God in his final crisis, Saul took his own life after asking his armour-bearer to kill him. His armour-bearer refused, and Saul fell upon his own sword. His death was quickly followed by that of his sons and many loyal servants. b. If Saul had not been king and he maintained his lowly lifestyle before he became king he might have made heaven. Was it his being anointed as king that made him to perish? NO. The bitterness, envy, jealousy and hatred in his heart was never dealt with. Eventually, he grew wings and became hardened in the heart. Never gloss over any filthiness in your heart. Ask God to cleanse your heart with the blood of Jesus and remove them. If they are not removed, they will turn to untamed lions in the house. b. A leader's fall often affects many others. Saul did not die alone. An unchecked rampaging leader will bring destruction not only to himself, but to others too. Saul's end illustrates the destructive consequences of persistent rebellion and self-reliance. The greatest safeguard in times of distress is unwavering confidence in God's mercy and guidance. *Question* Does my life and leadership encourage others toward faithfulness or can my spiritual decline harm those who follow me? *3. The Final Disgrace of the Graceless and the Godless* a. After Saul's death, Israel fled, the cities were abandoned. *"They (Israel) forsook their cities and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them"*. Do we pity these godless citizens (Israelites) for losing their inheritance, including land, to the enemies? When Saul failed to concentrate on governance, but rather left the throne to chase David, did any citizen caution him apart from Samuel. Everybody kept mum. Some out of fear and some out of desire for favour while some were just nonchallant. We should be careful to humbly and politely ensure that leaders are made accountable and helped when it appears they are derailing. Leaders need our prayers and support while they are in the path of right while they need our loving and gentle reminder of the truth whenever they are in the path of wrong. Nobody, no matter how great, has immunity from falling. Lucifer had no rival, but he fell. Judas saw, lived and dined with the Lord Jesus Christ face to face, he fell. Solomon was the wisest king, but he foolishly and fatally fell. King Saul was unfaithful to God, disobeyed His Word, consulted a medium and failed to seek the Lord. Therefore, God removed him and transferred the kingdom to David. Grace rejected eventually, gives way to disgrace. This is key if they want a society that would thrive, prosper and withstand challenges and upheavals of statehood. Otherwise, their frailties would destroy them and those they are leading, as in the case of Saul.* *Our Lord is the ultimate Leader. Without Him, man would be perennially on a bumpy ride, falling into a series of perilous failures. The Church should step in to halt the slide by teaching sound scriptural doctrines to raise God-fearing leaders. We must saturate everywhere with heaven-focused citizens with our preaching and righteous lifestyle. Only continual obedience, humility and dependence on God preserve a life, ministry, or family legacy. Those who think that they cannot lose whatever they receive from God, including eternal salvation, should learn from the life and end of Saul. *1. The Fall and Defeat of God's Giants* a. Saul and his sons were once regarded as the giants of Israel's military strength. They fought along with their father to win virtually all their battles except this last one. They all perished in a single day. b.How did they fall? It did not happen overnight. First, was the loss of focus. He allowed the enemy and jealousy to shift his attention from his divinely given responsibility to pursuing David who actually was not a threat. The deception of great position, persistence disobedience to the Word of God and the habit of taking God's warnings and Word for granted hardened his heart. The tragedy was not due merely to military weakness, but to spiritual failure that had accumulated over time. When those whom God raises fail to remain faithful, their strength cannot save them. Every believer must guard against drifting from God, regardless of past victories or present status. Never gloss over any filthiness in your heart. Ask God to cleanse your heart with the blood of Jesus and remove them. If they are not removed, they will turn to untamed lions in the house. b. The greatest safeguard in times of distress is unwavering confidence in God's mercy and guidance. *Question* Does my life and leadership encourage others toward faithfulness or can my spiritual decline harm those who follow me? *3. Do we pity these godless citizens (Israelites) for losing their inheritance, including land, to the enemies? Some out of fear and some out of desire for favour while some were just nonchallant. We should be careful to humbly and politely ensure that leaders are made accountable and helped when it appears they are derailing. Leaders need our prayers and support while they are in the path of right while they need our loving and gentle reminder of the truth whenever they are in the path of wrong. Nobody, no matter how great, has immunity from falling. Lucifer had no rival, but he fell. Judas saw, lived and dined with the Lord Jesus Christ face to face, he fell. Solomon was the wisest king, but he foolishly and fatally fell. King Saul was unfaithful to God, disobeyed His Word, consulted a medium and failed to seek the Lord. Therefore, God removed him and transferred the kingdom to David. Grace rejected eventually, gives way to disgrace. Only continual obedience, humility and dependence on God preserve a life, ministry, or family legacy. Those who think that they cannot lose whatever they receive from God, including eternal salvation, should learn from the life and end of Saul. *1. The Fall and Defeat of God's Giants* a. Saul and his sons were once regarded as the giants of Israel's military strength. They fought along with their father to win virtually all their battles except this last one. Even when they were not well prepared, God helped and strengthened them to be terrors to the nations around. *"So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them"* (1 Samuel 14:47). Victory was their birthright because of their allegiance to the God of heaven. He and his sons were giants in the hands of God. This time around, they all fell and were defeated the same day. They were not only captured, but were killed. What an avoidable tragedy that a promising and blessed first Royal family, that could have been a reference point of God's goodness and blessings, experienced. They all perished in a single day. b.How did they fall? It did not happen overnight. First, was the loss of focus. He allowed the enemy and jealousy to shift his attention from his divinely given responsibility to pursuing David who actually was not a threat. The deception of great position, persistence disobedience to the Word of God and the habit of taking God's warnings and Word for granted hardened his heart. The tragedy was not due merely to military weakness, but to spiritual failure that had accumulated over time. When those whom God raises fail to remain faithful, their strength cannot save them. Every believer must guard against drifting from God, regardless of past victories or present status. King Saul did not just lose his exalted blessings, but he also booked, signed and sealed he appointments to eternal condemnation in hell fire. *Question* Am I depending on past achievements or am I walking daily in humble obedience to God? *2. Every bit of activity in the outer court and inner court of the tabernacle was, for one purpose, to lead you into the Holy of Holies where God’s presence was. Old Testament symbols, such as the Ark, are a picture of New Testament realities. In this regard, the Ark, which was the most important piece of furniture in the tabernacle, is a picture of the Christ we love and serve. He is Lord. He is supreme. There’s no one like Him. And He alone is worthy of all praise! Paul writes: ‘Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through Him, God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. Grace and mercy qualified him especially, because of the deep humility and fear of God in his life as at the time he was made king. King Saul began his reign with great promise. He was divinely chosen, physically impressive and empowered by God for leadership (1 Samuel 10:1, 9). Yet, his life ended in shame because of persistent disobedience, self-will and refusal to seek the Lord sincerely. The text not only shows the death of Saul, but also the collapse of a royal dynasty that could have enjoyed lasting honour. It reminds us that a good beginning does not guarantee a glorious ending. Only continual obedience, humility and dependence on God preserve a life, ministry, or family legacy. Those who think that they cannot lose whatever they receive from God, including eternal salvation, should learn from the life and end of Saul. *1. The Fall and Defeat of God's Giants* a. Saul and his sons were once regarded as the giants of Israel's military strength. They fought along with their father to win virtually all their battles except this last one. Even when they were not well prepared, God helped and strengthened them to be terrors to the nations around. *"So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them"* (1 Samuel 14:47). Victory was their birthright because of their allegiance to the God of heaven. He and his sons were giants in the hands of God. This time around, they all fell and were defeated the same day. They were not only captured, but were killed. What an avoidable tragedy that a promising and blessed first Royal family, that could have been a reference point of God's goodness and blessings, experienced. They all perished in a single day. b.How did they fall? It did not happen overnight. First, was the loss of focus. He allowed the enemy and jealousy to shift his attention from his divinely given responsibility to pursuing David who actually was not a threat. The deception of great position, persistence disobedience to the Word of God and the habit of taking God's warnings and Word for granted hardened his heart. The tragedy was not due merely to military weakness, but to spiritual failure that had accumulated over time. When those whom God raises fail to remain faithful, their strength cannot save them. Every believer must guard against drifting from God, regardless of past victories or present status. King Saul did not just lose his exalted blessings, but he also booked, signed and sealed he appointments to eternal condemnation in hell fire. *Question* Am I depending on past achievements or am I walking daily in humble obedience to God? *2. The Forceful Decimation of a Great General* a. King Saul ended his record as the first king in Israel who committed suicide and thus, ending his God-given life forcefully. He could have perished in the battle and still made heaven if in his final hours he decided to cry to God for mercy and forgiveness. Rather than trust God in his final crisis, Saul took his own life after asking his armour-bearer to kill him. His armour-bearer refused, and Saul fell upon his own sword. His death was quickly followed by that of his sons and many loyal servants. b. If Saul had not been king and he maintained his lowly lifestyle before he became king he might have made heaven. Was it his being anointed as king that made him to perish? NO. The bitterness, envy, jealousy and hatred in his heart was never dealt with. Eventually, he grew wings and became hardened in the heart. Never gloss over any filthiness in your heart. Ask God to cleanse your heart with the blood of Jesus and remove them. If they are not removed, they will turn to untamed lions in the house. b. A leader's fall often affects many others. Saul did not die alone. An unchecked rampaging leader will bring destruction not only to himself, but to others too. Saul's end illustrates the destructive consequences of persistent rebellion and self-reliance. The greatest safeguard in times of distress is unwavering confidence in God's mercy and guidance. *Question* Does my life and leadership encourage others toward faithfulness or can my spiritual decline harm those who follow me? *3. The Final Disgrace of the Graceless and the Godless* a. After Saul's death, Israel fled, the cities were abandoned. *"They (Israel) forsook their cities and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them"*. Do we pity these godless citizens (Israelites) for losing their inheritance, including land, to the enemies? When Saul failed to concentrate on governance, but rather left the throne to chase David, did any citizen caution him apart from Samuel. Everybody kept mum. Some out of fear and some out of desire for favour while some were just nonchallant. We should be careful to humbly and politely ensure that leaders are made accountable and helped when it appears they are derailing. Leaders need our prayers and support while they are in the path of right while they need our loving and gentle reminder of the truth whenever they are in the path of wrong. Nobody, no matter how great, has immunity from falling. Lucifer had no rival, but he fell. Judas saw, lived and dined with the Lord Jesus Christ face to face, he fell. Solomon was the wisest king, but he foolishly and fatally fell. King Saul was unfaithful to God, disobeyed His Word, consulted a medium and failed to seek the Lord. Therefore, God removed him and transferred the kingdom to David. Grace rejected eventually, gives way to disgrace. They must look for pivotal men and women who would wholly yield themselves to the shepherding and correction of God. This is key if they want a society that would thrive, prosper and withstand challenges and upheavals of statehood. Now, this requirement holds true also in the different aspects of the workforce of the church. Otherwise, their frailties would destroy them and those they are leading, as in the case of Saul.* *Our Lord is the ultimate Leader. Without Him, man would be perennially on a bumpy ride, falling into a series of perilous failures. The Church should step in to halt the slide by teaching sound scriptural doctrines to raise God-fearing leaders. We must saturate everywhere with heaven-focused citizens with our preaching and righteous lifestyle. He was divinely chosen, physically impressive and empowered by God for leadership (1 Samuel 10:1, 9). Yet, his life ended in shame because of persistent disobedience, self-will and refusal to seek the Lord sincerely. The text not only shows the death of Saul, but also the collapse of a royal dynasty that could have enjoyed lasting honour. It reminds us that a good beginning does not guarantee a glorious ending. Only continual obedience, humility and dependence on God preserve a life, ministry, or family legacy. Those who think that they cannot lose whatever they receive from God, including eternal salvation, should learn from the life and end of Saul. *1. The Fall and Defeat of God's Giants* a. Saul and his sons were once regarded as the giants of Israel's military strength. They fought along with their father to win virtually all their battles except this last one. Even when they were not well prepared, God helped and strengthened them to be terrors to the nations around. *"So Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them"* (1 Samuel 14:47). Victory was their birthright because of their allegiance to the God of heaven. He and his sons were giants in the hands of God. This time around, they all fell and were defeated the same day. They were not only captured, but were killed. What an avoidable tragedy that a promising and blessed first Royal family, that could have been a reference point of God's goodness and blessings, experienced. They all perished in a single day. b.How did they fall? It did not happen overnight. First, was the loss of focus. He allowed the enemy and jealousy to shift his attention from his divinely given responsibility to pursuing David who actually was not a threat. The deception of great position, persistence disobedience to the Word of God and the habit of taking God's warnings and Word for granted hardened his heart. The tragedy was not due merely to military weakness, but to spiritual failure that had accumulated over time. When those whom God raises fail to remain faithful, their strength cannot save them. Every believer must guard against drifting from God, regardless of past victories or present status. King Saul did not just lose his exalted blessings, but he also booked, signed and sealed he appointments to eternal condemnation in hell fire. *Question* Am I depending on past achievements or am I walking daily in humble obedience to God? *2. The Forceful Decimation of a Great General* a. King Saul ended his record as the first king in Israel who committed suicide and thus, ending his God-given life forcefully. He could have perished in the battle and still made heaven if in his final hours he decided to cry to God for mercy and forgiveness. Rather than trust God in his final crisis, Saul took his own life after asking his armour-bearer to kill him. His armour-bearer refused, and Saul fell upon his own sword. His death was quickly followed by that of his sons and many loyal servants. b. If Saul had not been king and he maintained his lowly lifestyle before he became king he might have made heaven. Was it his being anointed as king that made him to perish? NO. The bitterness, envy, jealousy and hatred in his heart was never dealt with. Eventually, he grew wings and became hardened in the heart. Never gloss over any filthiness in your heart. Ask God to cleanse your heart with the blood of Jesus and remove them. If they are not removed, they will turn to untamed lions in the house. b. A leader's fall often affects many others. Saul did not die alone. An unchecked rampaging leader will bring destruction not only to himself, but to others too. Saul's end illustrates the destructive consequences of persistent rebellion and self-reliance. The greatest safeguard in times of distress is unwavering confidence in God's mercy and guidance. *Question* Does my life and leadership encourage others toward faithfulness or can my spiritual decline harm those who follow me? *3. The Final Disgrace of the Graceless and the Godless* a. After Saul's death, Israel fled, the cities were abandoned. *"They (Israel) forsook their cities and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them"*. Do we pity these godless citizens (Israelites) for losing their inheritance, including land, to the enemies? When Saul failed to concentrate on governance, but rather left the throne to chase David, did any citizen caution him apart from Samuel. Everybody kept mum. Some out of fear and some out of desire for favour while some were just nonchallant. We should be careful to humbly and politely ensure that leaders are made accountable and helped when it appears they are derailing. Leaders need our prayers and support while they are in the path of right while they need our loving and gentle reminder of the truth whenever they are in the path of wrong. Nobody, no matter how great, has immunity from falling. Lucifer had no rival, but he fell. Judas saw, lived and dined with the Lord Jesus Christ face to face, he fell. Solomon was the wisest king, but he foolishly and fatally fell. King Saul was unfaithful to God, disobeyed His Word, consulted a medium and failed to seek the Lord. Therefore, God removed him and transferred the kingdom to David. Grace rejected eventually, gives way to disgrace. In the first attempt, Jane hid by the side of the refrigerator and she was easily found. Secondly, she tried to hide in their small bathroom where John easily found her. Then she tried the back of the small chair that hardly hid her head: her eyes and those of John were still in contact. He sees everywhere, there is nowhere to hide from Him. The Prophet Amos warned the children of Israel of the foolishness of their trying to hide their sins from God. Though in hell, in the firmament, even if they go into captivity, the punishment of God would follow them there, unless they repent. *Have you attempted to hide something from someone before?
