OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: THURSDAY 20TH AUGUST 2026 TOPIC: GOD'S COVENANT OF PROSPERITY MEMORIZE: "But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day." Deuteronomy 8:18 (KJV) BIBLE READING: JOB 36:11-12 11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. 12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge. MESSAGE: When you enter into a covenant with the Owner of the earth and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1), the One who owns all the gold and the silver (Haggai 2:8), He will prosper you and add no sorrow to it (Proverbs 10:22). The devil often lures people into entering into a covenant with him by promising them great wealth. However, such prosperity always comes with many sorrows. I recall the story of a man who went to a herbalist and entered into a covenant with demonic forces so that he could become incredibly wealthy for seven years, after which he would die. He swallowed a charm the herbalist gave him, but he didn't get rich; instead, he had a seven-year countdown to his death. A few days before the seven years expired, the man ran into the church and told us his story. We told him to give his life to Jesus Christ, and He would protect him. He agreed, and we prayed a simple prayer with him. Right there, in the presence of everyone in the church, he vomited what he had swallowed. We rejoiced with him, and for a while after that, he attended church services regularly. After some time, however, he stopped coming, so we decided to conduct a follow-up. When we visited him, he said that the herbalist had told him he had swallowed the first charm incorrectly, so he gave him another one to swallow. Before long, he became wealthy. When the seven-year period stipulated by the covenant was close to expiring, he thought to himself, "The covenant is here in Nigeria. I will travel to London, and the demons won't be able to reach me there." Unfortunately, he died on a plane as he flew to London. Only God's covenant of prosperity will make a fellow rich and add no sorrow with it. Malachi 3:10 is a vital part of God's covenant of prosperity. When you pay your tithe, God will open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing upon you that will be so great that you will not have enough room to contain it. Furthermore, Proverbs 3:9-10 encourages us to honour God with our firstfruits. God doesn't need money; He can provide for anything He wants to do, but He asks to be honoured. Beloved, once you are in covenant with God, He will always provide for you and make sure that you never lack. The one who reads the Bible but struggles to feel anything. The one who battles temptation, grief, anxiety, disappointment, or loneliness and thinks, “Maybe I'm just a terrible Christian.” If that's you… You are not alone. And more importantly: Jesus has not abandoned you. “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 Notice that Scripture does not say God is only near to the joyful or the victorious. He is especially near to the brokenhearted. Even God's greatest servants wanted to quit Sometimes we imagine that real Christians never struggle. The Bible tells a very different story. David cried until his tears became his food. “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God.” — Psalm 42:11 Elijah called down fire from heaven, yet afterward he became so discouraged that he asked God to let him die (1 Kings 19). God didn't rebuke him first—He gave him rest, food, and His gentle presence. Jeremiah was called the weeping prophet. Paul admitted he was under such great pressure that he despaired of life itself. The strongest believers are not those who never struggle. They are the ones who keep returning to Christ. Maybe you're exhausted from trying to be “good enough” Many Christians live as though God's love depends on today's performance. We fail. We feel ashamed. We hide. We try harder. We fail again. But listen to the invitation of Jesus: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 Jesus did not say: Come when you've fixed yourself. He said: Come while you're weary. That changes everything. God is not asking you to carry yourself Some of you are carrying burdens you were never meant to carry. The grief of losing someone you love. Financial pressure. Health problems. Depression. Spiritual dryness. Regret over past sins. Fear about the future. Hear the Word of God: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 Not some of it. All of it. Every fear. Every question. Every sleepless night. Every tear you've cried when nobody else knew. When you feel like God is far away Feelings can be powerful. But they are not always truthful. God's promise is greater than our emotions. “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” — Hebrews 13:5 You may not feel His presence. You may not understand His timing. But His promise has not changed. He is faithful even when our feelings rise and fall. Your failures do not have the final word Perhaps you've fallen into the same sin again. Perhaps you've made promises to God that you've broken. Perhaps you're ashamed. Listen carefully. Satan says, “Hide from God.” Jesus says, “Come to Me.” “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9 The cross is not permission to continue in sin. The cross is proof that forgiveness is available for the repentant heart. There is mercy for those who return. Don't confuse a difficult season with a defeated life Winter is not the end of the tree. Night is not the end of the day. Friday was not the end of Jesus. Resurrection came. Your story is still being written by God. “Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” — Psalm 30:5 Morning does come. Sometimes slowly. But it comes. When your faith feels like a tiny ember Maybe you used to burn with passion. Now you barely have enough strength to whisper a prayer. Take hope from this beautiful promise: “A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out.” — Isaiah 42:3 Jesus specializes in restoring smoldering hearts. He does not crush weak believers. He restores them. If today is all you have… Then don't worry about surviving the next ten years. Walk with Jesus today. If you can't run… Walk. If you can't walk… Stand. If you can't stand… Kneel. If all you can pray is one sentence, let it be: “Jesus, hold on to me because I'm struggling to hold on to You.” That prayer is precious to God. God's grace is greater than your weakness Paul pleaded for his hardship to be removed. God answered him with these words: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 Notice this: God did not say, “Your strength is enough.” He said, “My grace is enough.” Your weakness is not the end of God's work. It is often where His power becomes most visible. Hold tightly to these promises “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” — Lamentations 3:22–23 “Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.” — Isaiah 40:31 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you… Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” — John 14:27 “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 1:6 God finishes what He starts. He has not given up on you. 🙏 A Prayer for Every Weary Christian Heavenly Father, I pray for every brother and sister in Christ who is reading this with tears in their eyes. Some are exhausted. Some are grieving. Some feel spiritually numb. Some are secretly ready to walk away from the faith. Lord Jesus, draw near to them exactly as You promised. Let the brokenhearted feel Your presence. Replace despair with hope, shame with forgiveness, fear with peace, and weariness with renewed strength. Holy Spirit, breathe fresh life into hearts that have grown cold. Restore the joy of salvation. Give us a hunger for Your Word, a love for prayer, and the courage to keep following Jesus one day at a time. Teach us to trust Your promises more than our feelings. Though they have highly educated people amongst them who could take advantage of the new technology. *While other religious group are working hard to preserve their religious books, Christians are working hard to remove the Holy Bible from hard copy to soft copy for their convenience.* If Christians continue with this attitude, less Bibles will be sold and gradually the publishers will stop Bible production. Technology has resulted in phasing out a lot of things today. Battery powered torches are gradually being phased out because of rechargeable torches. Please don't allow the Holy Bible to suffer the same fate. There are still books in Heaven Rev. 20:12. Let us go to our Church Services and Fellowships with our Bible even if it's archaic and burdensome. Let us Continue to preach from it for the sake of Christ and for the preservation of the Holy Bible. If going to Church Services with the Bible is a burden, remember Jesus carried a bigger burden for you. You can use your iPads and phones for your private/personal Bible study for your convenience but please save the Holy Bible from going into extinction by using the HOLY BIBLE (hard copy) to Church Services and Fellowships. He grew up in a pub and became a cabinet maker. He wrote one of the greatest hymns of faith walking to work. He didn't enter full-time ministry until he was 55. Edward Mote was born in 1797 in Cripplegate, London — in rooms above his parents' public house. He later described his upbringing in striking terms: his parents were not churchgoers and gave him no religious instruction whatsoever. By his own account, he entered adulthood knowing essentially nothing of God or faith. As a teenager, he was apprenticed to a cabinet maker and heard a sermon by a preacher named John Hyatt at Tottenham Court Road Chapel. That sermon broke something open in him, and his life changed entirely. He remained a cabinet maker for decades — a respected craftsman, devout in his private faith, but not a minister or church leader. In his spare time he wrote occasional verse and devotional poetry. One Sunday morning in the 1830s, he was walking through London to his workshop when words and music began forming in his mind without particular invitation. By the time he arrived, most of a hymn was already there: "My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name." He worked through the day — wood and words simultaneously — finishing both the cabinet work and the hymn before evening. That same Sunday, he visited a friend whose wife was gravely ill. The family were searching for something to sing together. He pulled the paper from his coat pocket and they sang his morning's work at her bedside. He became a Baptist pastor at 55 years old — over three decades after his conversion, after a lifetime of faithful obscurity as a craftsman. He served Rehoboth Baptist Chapel in Horsham, Sussex for 26 years. When his congregation tried to transfer the title deeds of the church building to him as a gift, he refused. He said the church belonged to Jesus Christ and it would be wrong to put anyone else's name on it. He died in 1874. "On Christ the solid rock I stand. (16 July 1546) Anne Askew (1521-1546) was a Protestant Reformer whose opposition to the Roman doctrine of Transubstantiation resulted in her martyrdom under the reign of Henry VIII. She recorded the events surrounding her persecution along with a statement of her faith, published as The Examinations by John Bale, which was republished in 1563 by John Foxe in his Acts and Monuments. Before her death, Anne wrote out the following prayer: “O Lord! I have more enemies now, than there be hairs on my head; yet, Lord let them never overcome me with vain words, but light thou, Lord, in my stead; for on thee cast I my care. With all the spite they can imagine, they fall upon me, who am thy poor creature. Yet, sweet Lord, let me not set by them that are against me; for in thee is my whole delight. Hello, I would like to share with you the message from 15 juillet 2026 from “The Good Seed” daily calendar. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lᴏʀᴅ, and whose hope is the Lᴏʀᴅ. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit. (Jeremiah 17:7-8) How deep do the roots reach? In the park of the former London palace, there was an ancient vine. It occupied the entire length of the greenhouse and was a visitor attraction for a long time. Even during a terrible drought, when many trees around withered, this vine remained strong and produced excellent grapes every year. The gardeners were fascinated.  Where did this vine get its strength from? Carefully, they dug around it and found, to their amazement, that the roots reached far into the park and extended to the Thames. That’s the river that flows through London and never runs dry.  Humans also need water: not only for their bodies but, metaphorically, also for their souls. A person who wants to quench the thirst of his soul at a human source will soon notice that this source slowly dries up. Whether culture, sports, travel or hobbies – everything eventually loses its appeal. It has to be constantly increased: bigger, better, longer or more expensive. But in old age, there comes a point where these things can no longer be increased – what then?  It is quite different with the source that God offers us. God calls Himself “the fountain of living water” (Jeremiah 17:13). This means that He never disappoints. From Him, we receive lasting peace and eternal joy. Of course, even in the life of a believing Christian, there are “dry spells” – difficult times like grief, illness or other problems. But whoever sinks his “roots” trustingly into the love of God will not “wither” even in such difficult trials but will be “rooted … and built up in Him” (Colossians 2:7).
