SHE OFFERED THEM WATER. THEY SENTENCED HER TO DEATH FOR IT. Asia Bibi was an illiterate Christian farmhand in Pakistan when, on a sweltering day in 2009, she was sent to fetch water for her fellow farmworkers. Two Muslim women refused to drink from the same container as her, believing it had been made unclean by a Christian's touch. An argument broke out, and days later the women accused Bibi of insulting the Prophet Muhammad, a charge that carries a mandatory death sentence in Pakistan and one she denied from the very beginning. Bibi was convicted in 2010 and spent the next eight years on death row, largely in solitary confinement, while her case became one of the most watched in the world. Two Pakistani officials who publicly defended her, provincial governor Salman Taseer and federal minister Shahbaz Bhatti, were both assassinated in 2010 for taking her side. In October 2018, Pakistan's Supreme Court finally overturned her conviction in a landmark ruling, citing serious concerns about the fairness of her original trial. The acquittal triggered days of violent nationwide protests from radical Islamist groups demanding her execution regardless of the court's ruling. Even after being declared innocent, Bibi couldn't simply walk free. Aida Najaflou, an Iranian mother of two who converted to Christianity, is serving a 17 year prison sentence because of her involvement with a house church and Christian ministry activities. She is being held in Tehran’s Evin Prison, where numerous believers and political prisoners have reportedly faced harsh treatment. Her condition recently worsened after she reportedly fell from an upper bunk, leaving her with a fractured T12 vertebra. Christian advocacy groups say she had repeatedly warned prison officials that her medical condition required a lower bed, but her requests were ignored. Despite the seriousness of her injury, reports indicate she was returned to prison rather than receiving the specialized medical care she needed. Jesus never promised His followers an easy path. He said, “If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you” (John 15:20), and 2 Timothy 3:12 declares that everyone who desires to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will face persecution. Around the world, countless believers continue to pay a heavy price for remaining faithful to Christ. Hebrews 13:3 urges the church to remember those who are imprisoned as though we were suffering alongside them. Marziyeh Amirizadeh knows what Iran's darkness looks like from the inside. In 2009, she and her fellow house church leader Maryam Rostampour were arrested in Tehran, thrown into the infamous Evin Prison, and sentenced to death by hanging for the "crime" of converting from Islam to Christianity. They had spent years before their arrest distributing 20,000 Bibles across Tehran because God had given Marziyeh a vision: Iran was like a desert with no seeds, and He told her to plant them and trust the Holy Spirit to grow them. She planted them. She went to prison. She was sentenced to die. And now, writing just this week, she says the harvest is finally coming. Since the 12-Day War of 2025 decimated Iran's military, its nuclear capabilities, its terror proxies, and ultimately the regime itself — including the death of Supreme Leader Khamenei — Marziyeh has been watching what she believes is the direct fulfillment of biblical prophecy unfolding in real time. He was stabbed and left for dead for sharing Jesus, yet Hamza continues boldly living out his faith in Jesus. Raised in a moderate Muslim family, his upbringing was marked by drugs and violence. Hamza currently rents a tuk-tuk to drive to earn money and provide for his family, but the cost of rent means that his profits are small.
