The Rewards of Sin 1. Understanding What Sin Is Sin is any action, thought, or behavior that goes against the will and command of God. Sin separates man from God and brings spiritual consequences. The Bible explains sin clearly: First Epistle of John 3:4 – “Sin is the transgression of the law.” Epistle of James 4:17 – “To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” Sin is not only about committing evil acts; it can also be refusing to do what is right. Examples of sin include: Pride Lies Sexual immorality Bitterness Greed Disobedience to God 2. The Wages of Sin The word wages means payment or reward for work done. Just as workers receive salary for their labor, sin also pays its own salary. According to the Bible, the payment of sin is death. Epistle to the Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death.” This death happens in three ways: 1. Spiritual Death Sin separates man from God. Book of Isaiah 59:2 – “Your iniquities have separated between you and your God.” When sin controls a person, that person loses spiritual sensitivity and connection with God. 2. Physical Consequences Sin often produces destruction in life such as: Broken relationships Poverty Shame Diseases Loss of destiny Epistle to the Galatians 6:7 – “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” 3. Eternal Death The ultimate result of unrepented sin is eternal separation from God. Book of Revelation 21:8 – describes the final judgment for those who refuse to turn away from sin. 3. The Beginning of Sin in Humanity Sin entered the world through the disobedience of the first humans. Book of Genesis 3:6 shows how Adam and Eve disobeyed God. Because of that act: Humanity inherited a sinful nature. Death entered the world. Epistle to the Romans 5:12 – “By one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin.” 4. The Deception of Sin Sin often appears attractive at first but eventually destroys. Epistle of James 1:15 – “Sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Sin may promise: Pleasure Power Quick success But its final result is always destruction. 5. The Gift of God Even though sin pays death, God offers a free gift. Epistle to the Romans 6:23 – “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Through Jesus Christ, God provided salvation. Gospel of John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” Jesus died so humanity could be forgiven and receive eternal life. 6. How to Escape the Wages of Sin 1. Repent Turn away from sin sincerely. Acts of the Apostles 3:19 – “Repent therefore, and be converted.” 2. Accept Jesus Christ Receive the salvation God offers. Epistle to the Romans 10:9 – “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus…” 3. Live a Holy Life Walk in obedience to God. First Epistle of Peter 1:16 – “Be ye holy; for I am holy.” Conclusion Sin may look small, but its reward is deadly. The wages of sin is death, but God in His mercy offers eternal life through Jesus Christ. The choice is before everyone today: Continue in sin and receive death Or accept Christ and receive eternal life Choose life. Prayer “Lord, I acknowledge my sins before You. MEN WHO HATE GOD “Men Who Hate God” may sound shocking, yet Scripture clearly reveals that there are people who live in open rejection, rebellion, and opposition to God. Romans 1:28-32, Psalm 14:1, John 15:18-19 They may not openly declare, “I hate God,” but their actions, choices, lifestyle, and attitudes reveal a deep contempt for His authority, truth, and righteousness. Hatred for God is not merely emotional; it is spiritual rebellion. It is the refusal to acknowledge God as Lord, the rejection of His Word, and the deliberate choice to live contrary to His will. “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works…” – Psalm 14:1 1. MEN WHO HATE GOD REJECT HIS AUTHORITY Men who hate God refuse to submit to His sovereignty. They want to rule their own lives and become their own god. They see God’s commandments as restrictions rather than protection. “For the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” – Romans 8:7 Hatred for God is shown when men: ,- Mock righteousness - Despise holiness - Ignore repentance - Redefine truth Such men say, “I will live my life my way, not God’s way.” 2. MEN WHO HATE GOD LOVE SIN MORE THAN TRUTH Another mark of those who hate God is their deep affection for sin. They defend evil, glorify immorality, and celebrate what God condemns. “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind…” – Romans 1:28 They exchange the truth of God for lies, placing pleasure, pride, and self above righteousness. Sin becomes their language. Darkness becomes their comfort. 3. MEN WHO HATE GOD PERSECUTE THE RIGHTEOUS Those who hate God naturally oppose those who love Him. Hatred for God translates into hatred for godly living. “If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.” – John 15:18 They ridicule prayer, mock holiness, and resist the gospel. The light exposes their darkness, and instead of repenting, they attack the light. 4. THE DANGERS OF HATING GOD To hate God is to position oneself against the source of life. It leads to: -Spiritual blindness - Moral decay - Judgement - Eternal separation from God “They that hate me love death.” – Proverbs 8:36 Hatred for God is not freedom; it is bondage. It is not boldness; it is self-destruction. 5. GOD’S MERCY STILL CALLS THE REBELLIOUS Despite human hatred, God still extends mercy. He desires repentance, not destruction. “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise… but is longsuffering… not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9 Even men who hate God today can become men who love Him tomorrow through repentance and surrender to Christ. CONCLUSION Men who hate God are not always loud atheists; sometimes they sit in churches, speak religious words, and still live in defiance. Hatred for God is revealed through disobedience, pride, and rejection of His truth. The call of God today is clear: Stop fighting God. Stop rejecting His voice. Return to Him while mercy is available. “Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” – Hebrews 3:15 ALTAR CALL Search your heart. Are you resisting God’s will? The Day of Reckoning: You Will Give Account of Your Life Every human being lives with a silent appointment on God’s calendar. The Bible calls it The Day of Reckoning—a day when excuses will expire, secrets will be exposed, and every soul will stand before the righteous Judge. Rom. 14:12, 2 Cor. 5:10, Heb. 9:27, Matt. 12:36, Rev. 20:11-12 This is not a myth, not a parable, not a mere warning tactic; it is a divine certainty. “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” – Romans 14:12 Your life is not a random journey. It is a stewardship, and one day you will give a full report of how you lived it. 1. THE DAY IS APPOINTED AND UNAVOIDABLE “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” – Hebrews 9:27 No one escapes this appointment. Not the rich, not the poor, not the pastor, not the politician. Death ends earthly opportunities, and judgment begins eternal evaluation. You will not send a representative. You will stand alone before God. This truth should provoke sobriety, humility, and urgent repentance. 2. YOU WILL GIVE ACCOUNT FOR YOUR WORDS “But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.” – Matthew 12:36 Your mouth is not exempt from judgment. Gossip, lies, curses, insults, idle talk, slander, and false promises will all be accounted for. Words are seeds. On the Day of Reckoning, God will replay every syllable. 3. YOU WILL GIVE ACCOUNT FOR YOUR DEEDS “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” – 2 Corinthians 5:10 Every action is recorded in Heaven’s ledger. How you treated people, how you used your gifts, how you managed resources, and how you responded to God’s voice will be reviewed. Hidden sins are not hidden from God. “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened…” – Revelation 20:12 4. YOU WILL GIVE ACCOUNT FOR YOUR TIME Time is God’s divine currency. Every wasted hour, every delayed obedience, every procrastinated calling will be questioned. “See then that ye walk circumspectly... redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:15-16 How did you spend your time? Chasing vanity or pursuing purpose? 5. YOU WILL GIVE ACCOUNT FOR YOUR SPIRITUAL STEWARDSHIP Did you grow in the Word? Did you pray? Did you serve? Did you witness? Did you live holy? “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” – 1 Corinthians 4:2 Salvation is not a license to live carelessly. Grace is a call to holiness. 6. THE JUDGE IS RIGHTEOUS AND IMPARTIAL “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” – Ecclesiastes 12:14 God is not bribed. He is not influenced by status, denomination, or emotional stories. His standard is truth and righteousness. 7. HOW THEN SHOULD WE LIVE? In light of the coming judgment, we must: * Repent sincerely (Acts 3:19) * Live holy (1 Peter 1:15-16) * Walk in obedience (John 14:15) * Serve faithfully (Col. 3:23) * Prepare daily (Amos 4:12) “Prepare to meet thy God.” – Amos 4:12 CONCLUSION The Day of Reckoning is not a scare tactic; it is a spiritual wake-up call. The question is not if you will give account, but how you will give account. Will God say: “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21) Or will you hear: “Depart from me” (Matthew 7:23)? Today is the opportunity for repentance. Tomorrow may be the report. ALTAR CALL If you know your life is not aligned with God, now is the acceptable time. “Behold, now is the day of salvation.” – 2 Corinthians 6:2 In your heart and say: "Lord Jesus, forgive me. Cleanse me. Help me to live ready for eternity. I surrender my life to You. Amen." CLOSING PRAYER Lord, teach us to number our days, to walk in wisdom, and to live each moment with eternity in view. Chasing Shadows While Ignoring the Light of Christ We live in a generation addicted to shadows — illusions of happiness, temporary pleasures, worldly applause, material success, social media validation, and empty philosophies. John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Many are running tirelessly after what looks attractive but has no substance, while the true Light, Jesus Christ, stands shining, calling for attention. A shadow has shape but no substance, form but no life, appearance but no power. Sadly, many believers chase what cannot save and neglect the One who can transform, heal, and give eternal life. 1. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO CHASE SHADOWS? Chasing shadows is pursuing things that promise fulfillment but cannot satisfy the soul. Solomon, the wisest man who had everything, declared: “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.” – Ecclesiastes 1:2 Shadows include: - Pride and self-glory - Sinful pleasures - Material obsession - Human approval above God - Fame without purpose They look real, but once you touch them, they disappear. They leave the soul empty and restless. 2. CHRIST – THE TRUE LIGHT WE IGNORE Jesus did not come as another option; He came as THE ONLY LIGHT. “In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” – John 1:4-5 While people chase shadows, Christ stands: * Offering eternal life " Calling for repentance * Offering peace that surpasses understanding * Providing direction for the lost Ignoring Christ is choosing darkness over light intentionally. 3. THE DANGER OF IGNORING THE LIGHT When you reject light, darkness becomes your companion. “Men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” – John 3:19 Consequences include: * Spiritual blindness * Confusion and lack of purpose * Moral decay * Eternal separation from God * A life controlled by sin Just as a blind man walks into danger, a soul that rejects Christ walks into destruction. 4. BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: LOT’S WIFE – A SHADOW CHASER Lot’s wife left Sodom physically but her heart remained behind. “But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.” – Genesis 19:26 She looked back at shadows — comfort, possessions, old life — and lost her destiny. Many today are walking with Christ outwardly but looking back inwardly. 5. WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE SHADOWS OVER LIGHT * It feels easier * It requires no transformation * It condones sin * It satisfies the flesh temporarily * It avoids surrender But Scripture warns: “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” – Proverbs 14:12 6. HOW TO STOP CHASING SHADOWS a. Embrace the Light Fully “Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you.” – John 12:35 b. Repent and Turn “Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.” – Acts 3:19 c. Renew Your Mind “Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2 d. Follow Christ Daily “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” – Luke 9:23 CONCLUSION Chasing shadows will always end in emptiness. Only the Light of Christ brings life, clarity, direction, and salvation. The world may glitter, but Christ glorifies. Shadows deceive, but Jesus delivers. Today, choose the Light. Stop chasing what fades and embrace the One who remains forever. “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” – Psalm 27:1 Let us not be a generation that runs after illusions while the Savior stands ignored.
