The Danger of a Divided Heart
Acts 5:3 records a sobering moment in the early church. Ananias and his wife Sapphira sold a piece of property and brought part of the proceeds to the apostles. There was nothing wrong with giving only a portion of the money. The problem was that they pretended to give everything while secretly keeping some for themselves. Peter, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, exposed what had taken place. He asked Ananias why he had allowed Satan to fill his heart and influence him to lie.
