    Grow Closer to God

Every genuine relationship begins with an invitation.

Long before we search for God, He is already searching for us.

Long before we speak to Him, He has already spoken to our hearts.

Long before we take a step toward Him, He has already taken countless steps toward us.

From the very beginning of salvation history, God has been the One who seeks. He called Adam in the garden. He called Abraham from his homeland. He called Moses from the burning bush. He called the prophets, the apostles, and countless saints throughout the centuries.

    And today, He calls you.

Many people quietly believe that they must first become better before approaching God. We tell ourselves:

"When I overcome this sin, then I'll pray."

"When my life is in order, then I'll return to God."

"When I become worthy, then I'll draw near to Him."

But the Gospel tells a different story.

Jesus did not wait for Zacchaeus to change before entering his house.

He did not wait for Peter to become perfect before calling him.

He did not wait for the prodigal son to earn his way back home.

God always takes the first step.

His love is not a reward for holiness; it is the source of holiness.

He loves us not because we are worthy, but because He is Love itself.

Growing closer to God is rarely dramatic.

    Most often, it happens quietly.

    A few minutes of prayer.

    A verse of Scripture.

A whispered "Jesus, I trust in You."

A moment of silence before the Blessed Sacrament.

    A sincere act of repentance.

A decision to trust Him one more time.

Like tuning a radio, we slowly learn to recognize His voice amid the noise of daily life. At first, the signal may seem weak. Distractions compete for our attention. But as we continue seeking Him, His presence becomes clearer, His peace deeper, and His love more tangible.

The saints teach us that intimacy with God is built not in extraordinary moments, but in ordinary fidelity.

    Prayer by prayer.

    Day by day.

    Choice by choice.

Today, stop striving to earn what God freely offers.

    Simply open your heart.

    Allow yourself to be loved.

    Allow God to draw near.

    Because He already is.

    Scripture

"Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you." — James 4:8

"See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are." — 1 John 3:1

    Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me before I ever sought You. Remove every fear that keeps me distant from You. Teach me to trust Your love and to seek You each day with a sincere heart. Draw me ever closer to You, so that my life may reflect Your presence and peace. Amen.

    Live the Word

Today, spend at least five uninterrupted minutes in silence with God. Do not ask for anything. Simply sit quietly in His presence and allow Him to love you.

    Truth for Today

God takes the first step—always. Our task is simply to respond.

    Truths to Remember

    • God seeks us before we seek Him.
    • We do not earn God's love; we receive it.
    • Prayer is primarily relationship, not obligation.
    • Small daily acts of faith draw us closer to God.
    • Intimacy with God grows through faithful perseverance.

    Reflection

What fear, wound, or misunderstanding keeps you from believing that God desires a deeper relationship with you right now?

    Notice the Beauty Around Us

Beauty is often much closer than we think.

A patch of blue sky between buildings.
The shade of a tree on a hot afternoon.
The gentle song of a bird before sunrise.
    Sunlight filtering through a window.
The quiet colors of an evening sunset.

These simple moments often pass unnoticed, yet they are gifts placed in our path by a loving God.

We live in a world of noise and hurry.

Our eyes are fixed on screens.
Our minds race toward the next responsibility.
Our schedules leave little room for wonder.

We rush from one task to another, often forgetting to truly see.

And yet, God continues to speak.

    He speaks through creation.

"The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork." — Psalm 19:1

Creation is not merely scenery; it is revelation.

A single flower blooming through cracked concrete preaches hope.

A bird building its nest teaches perseverance.

The rhythm of the seasons reminds us that life moves according to God's wisdom, not our anxieties.

Even in crowded cities of concrete and steel, beauty finds a way to break through.

As Chiara Lubich beautifully observed, even a small patch of blue sky visible between skyscrapers can become a reminder of God's presence.

The problem is rarely that beauty is absent.

The problem is that we are distracted.

We often search for extraordinary experiences while overlooking the quiet miracles surrounding us every day.

Jesus frequently withdrew into nature to pray. He pointed to lilies, sparrows, vineyards, seeds, mountains, and storms to reveal the mysteries of God's Kingdom. He knew that creation speaks to hearts willing to listen.

Perhaps today God is inviting us to slow down.

    To breathe.

    To look up.

    To notice.

    To wonder.

Because wonder opens the door to gratitude, and gratitude draws us closer to God.

Today, resist the temptation to rush through life.

    Pause.

    Look around.

Receive the beauty that God has already placed before you.

You do not need to travel to mountaintops or distant landscapes to encounter Him.

Sometimes, all it takes is lifting your eyes.

    A Deeper Call

The ability to recognize beauty is a spiritual gift. When we intentionally notice the goodness, beauty, and wonder around us, our hearts become more grateful, more peaceful, and more attentive to God's loving presence in everyday life.

    Scripture

"The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork." — Psalm 19:1

    Prayer

Heavenly Father, open our eyes to the beauty You have scattered throughout creation. Slow our hurried hearts and teach us to recognize Your presence in the ordinary moments of each day. Fill us with gratitude, wonder, and praise as we contemplate the works of Your hands. Amen.

    Live the Word

Today, intentionally spend five minutes outdoors or near a window. Observe something beautiful in creation and thank God for this specific gift.

    Truth for Today

Beauty is never absent; often, only our attention is.

    Reflection

What beauty have you been rushing past lately, and how might God be inviting you to pause and notice His presence there today?

    Choose Mercy Over Judgment

    How quickly we judge.

    A single mistake.
    One misunderstanding.
    One disappointing moment.

And suddenly, we think we know someone's entire story.

Yet every person carries hidden struggles.

Behind every smile may be an unseen sorrow.

Behind every harsh word may be a wounded heart.

Behind every failure may be a battle no one else can see.

    The world encourages quick judgment.

    Jesus calls us to mercy.

When the woman caught in adultery was brought before Him, everyone was ready to condemn her.

    But Jesus said:

"Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." (John 8:7)

One by one, the accusers walked away.

    Then Jesus said:

"Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin anymore." (John 8:11)

    Jesus did not ignore sin.

But He refused to define a person by her worst moment.

    This is mercy.

Mercy sees the person behind the failure.

    Mercy makes room for healing.

Mercy believes that God's grace can write a new story.

Before judging someone today, pause and ask:

    • Do I know their whole story?

    • Have I listened enough?

    • Am I seeing them through the eyes of Christ?

    Prayer

Lord Jesus, teach us to replace harsh judgments with patience, understanding, and mercy. Help us see others as You see them. Amen.

    Live the Word

Today, when you catch yourself judging someone, stop and pray for that person instead.

    Truth for Today

Understanding often begins where judgment ends.

    Reflection

Who is Jesus inviting you to see with greater mercy today?

    Put First Things First

Every day, countless things compete for our attention.

    Work.
    Responsibilities.
    Notifications.
    Deadlines.
    Worries.

Without realizing it, we can spend an entire day busy with everything except what matters most.

But Jesus gives us a different priority:

"Strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." — Matthew 6:33

The world tells us to put success first.
Jesus tells us to put God first.

When God is at the center, everything else begins to find its proper place.

Today, the Church celebrates the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist.

John lived with one purpose: to lead others to Christ.

He never sought glory for himself. Instead, he said:

"He must increase, but I must decrease." — John 3:30

Saint John reminds us that putting God first does not diminish us—it transforms us.

Perhaps the greatest challenge of our time is distraction.

We are constantly connected, yet often spiritually disconnected.

Jesus gently calls us back to what matters most.

Take a moment today and ask yourself:

What truly comes first in my life?

Not what I say is first.
But what my time, energy, and choices reveal.

If God has slowly moved to the margins, invite Him back to the center.

    He belongs there.

    Prayer

Lord, teach us to seek Your Kingdom above everything else. Reorder our priorities and help us place You first each day. Amen.

    Live the Word

Before checking your phone tomorrow morning, spend five minutes in prayer.

    Focus on What Lasts

The world constantly pulls our attention in different directions. Trends change, possessions fade, and many things we chase today will be forgotten tomorrow.

    But God's love never fades.

    His truth remains.
    His promises endure.
    His peace lasts forever.

Today, pause and ask yourself: What am I investing my heart in?

    Choose what lasts.

    Spend time with God's Word.
    Love your family deeply.
Nurture a soul grounded in Christ.

Because what is built on God will never fade.

"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." — 2 Corinthians 4:18

    Share What We Have

    Some possessions
    become valuable
    because of the memories
    attached to them.

    Yet sometimes
    the greatest value
    of an object

is the good it can do
    for someone else.

    Chiara Lubich
    puts this conviction
    in striking terms:

    "The rich do not sin
    because they are rich,

    but rather they sin
    because they do not use
    their wealth
    according to God's will.

    What they have inherited
    or possess
    is theirs

only in as much as they
    are obliged to distribute it

    to their brothers and sisters
    in need."

    This is a demanding teaching.

    Not — give away
    everything you have.

    But — recognize
    that what you possess

    was never meant
    to terminate in you.

    "If we are Christians
    and members of one body,

    then everything we have
    must circulate.

    If not,
    it would be like blocking
    the flow of blood

    into one member
    of the body

    in order to enrich
    another part.

    It would mean death
    for both of them."

    This image
    is medically precise.

    A body
    that hoards blood
    in one organ

    starves
    every other organ —

    and eventually,
    even the organ
    doing the hoarding
    begins to fail.

    Generosity is not
    a moral extra.

    It is the circulatory system
    of the Body of Christ.

    "Generosity becomes
    more meaningful

    when we share
not only what we can spare,

    but also
    what we value.

    What we hold too tightly
    can no longer help anyone.

    Even the finest violin
    fulfills its purpose

    only when it is placed
    in someone's hands."

    This connects deeply
    to today's Gospel.

    Jesus warns us
    about the beam
    in our own eye —

    the thing we cannot see
    because we are
    too close to it,

    too attached to it,

    too unwilling
    to examine it honestly.

    Possessions can become
    exactly this kind of beam.

    We hold something
    so tightly

    that we lose the ability
    to see clearly

    what it could do
    in someone else's hands.

    Saint Thomas More,
    whose feast we honour today,

    understood this
    in the most extreme way.

    He held the highest office
    in England —

    and let it go
    rather than betray
    his conscience.

    He understood
    that some things
    we possess

    are not truly ours
    to keep
    at any cost.

What we hold too tightly —

    whether power,
    wealth,
or a single cherished object —

    can no longer
    serve anyone,
    including ourselves.

"Give, and it will be given to you...
    the measure you use

    will be measured back
    to you."
    — Luke 6:38

    Prayer to Share Generously

    Heavenly Father,

    teach us to hold
    our possessions
    with open hands.

    Help us recognize
    the needs of others

    and share generously,

    trusting that love grows
    whenever it is given away.

    Amen.

    A prayer a day,
    keeps the soul
    from drifting away.

    Live the Word

    Today —
    find one object
    you have been holding
    too tightly,

    and give it
    to someone
    who needs it
    more than you do.

Saint Thomas More, whose feast we honour today, understood this in the most extreme way. He held the highest office in England — and let it go rather than betray his conscience. He understood that some things we possess are not truly ours to keep at any cost. What we hold too tightly — whether power, wealth, or a single cherished object — can no longer serve anyone, including ourselves. 📖 "Give, and it will be given to you... the measure you use will be measured back to you." — Luke 6:38 🙏 Prayer to Share Generously Heavenly Father, teach us to hold our possessions with open hands. Help us recognize the needs of others and share generously, trusting that love grows whenever it is given away. Amen. A prayer a day, keeps the soul from drifting away. 💬 Live the Word Today — find one object you have been holding too tightly, and give it to someone who needs it more than you do. #WordOfLife #ShareWhatWeHave #ChiaraLubich #RiseWithTheWord

    Make Time to Pray

    Meaningful conversations
    require attention.

    The same is true
    of prayer.

    It becomes difficult
    to connect with someone

    when distractions
    constantly pull us away.

    Setting aside even
    a few quiet moments

    can create space
    for a deeper relationship
    with God.

    Like tuning an instrument
    before a performance —

    a quiet heart
    helps us hear
    more clearly.

    A prayer a day
    keeps the soul
    from drifting away.

Father, draw me closer to You.
    Teach me to set aside
    distractions in Your presence.
    Amen.

    What helps you find
    quiet moments to pray?

    Be Kind

    Kindness begins
    when another person's needs
    matter to us.

    Chiara Lubich described kindness
    as something far deeper
    than being pleasant.

    "Kindness is more
    than being pleasant.

    It means making room
    for another person's joys,
    struggles, needs,
    and concerns."

    Making room.

    That phrase carries
    more weight
    than it first appears to.

    Because making room
    requires that we first
    empty something —

    our own preoccupation,
    our own schedule,
    our own internal monologue —

    just long enough
    to actually notice
    someone else.

    "When we stop focusing
    on ourselves for a moment,

    we become better able
    to understand
    what others are carrying."

    This is the quiet,
    unglamorous discipline
at the centre of real kindness.

    Not grand gestures.

    Not performances of generosity
    meant to be seen.

    Simply — stopping.

    Long enough to notice
    what someone else
    is carrying.

    "Real kindness listens
    before it speaks

    and cares
    before it judges."

    How often do we do
    the opposite?

    We speak before
    we have truly listened.

    We judge before
    we have truly cared.

    Kindness, as Chiara describes it,
    reverses both instincts.

    Listen first.
    Care first.

    Let understanding
    come before opinion.

    "A calm and gentle person
can bring peace to a room

    the way soft music
    changes its atmosphere."

This image is worth sitting with.

    Music doesn't argue a room
    into peace.

    It doesn't announce itself.

    It simply changes
    the atmosphere
    by its presence.

    That is what
    a genuinely kind person does.

    Their calm
    becomes contagious.

    Their gentleness
    changes the temperature
    of every room they enter.

    Today's Gospel told us
    not to worry —

    to trust that God
    already knows
    what we need.

    Kindness is what happens
    when that trust
    overflows outward.

    When I am no longer
    anxiously securing
    my own needs,

    I finally have room
    to notice
    yours.

    "Be kind to one another,
    tenderhearted,
    forgiving one another,
    as God in Christ
    forgave you."
    — Ephesians 4:32

    Prayer to Live with Kindness

    Lord,
    teach us to listen
    with attention,

    understand
    with compassion,

    and respond
    with kindness.

    Help us notice
    the needs of those
    around us

    and bring comfort,
    peace,
    and encouragement

    through our actions.

    Amen.

    Live the Word

    Today —
    before you speak
    in your next conversation,

    pause.

    Listen first.

    Notice what the other person
    might be carrying.

    Let that be
    your kindness.
