*Learning to Live Humbly* Have you ever met an angry Christian? You may have come across Christians who seem to grumble, complain, or even speak harshly about other people. Maybe we’ve even been that person at times in our own life. If we're not careful, we can easily become self-righteous within Christianity. After all, we know the truth and others may not. We might see how tempting it can be to look down on others, demean them, or consider them as worse off than ourselves. But this misses the point of the Gospel of Jesus. The Gospel tells us that all of us begin at the same starting point. And it’s only by Grace through faith that we come to Salvation and learn the truth about God’s love for us. That doesn’t make us any better than other Christians! In fact, as Paul says in *Ephesians 4:2,* we should actually be humble and gentle with others, rather than harsh and critical. He says we are to be patient with one another, helping each other in every way possible so we can all grow together. These ideas aren’t original to Paul. They actually came from how Jesus lived His life. As followers of Jesus, we too should strive to be gentle, humble, and patient with everyone in our lives. Regardless of whether they look or think a different way, every person deserves dignity, patience, and love. Let's take some time today to consider a few ways that we can grow in patience, humility, and love with others. It could be slowing down long enough for people to know we care, saying something encouraging to someone, or admitting that we’ve made a mistake. Let's make the decision today to live in humility and grace with others. *Prayer For Love* Father God, Your Word inspires us to be humble and gentle; to lead with patience and unconditional love. But we can't live that way without Your help. Teach us how to extend grace and forgiveness to those around us. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.

TUESDAY 18TH AUGUST 2026 IGNITE YOUTH DEVOTIONAL Topic: Do Not Let One Failure Define You Bible Reference “For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.” Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV) A Short Story David had failed an important examination. He had studied, but not as much as he should have. When the result came out, the score was far below what he expected. He stared at the result for several minutes. He felt ashamed. Some of his friends had done well, and he could not stop comparing himself with them. When he got home, he threw his school bag on the floor and sat quietly. His mother noticed that something was wrong, but David did not want to talk. That night, he began thinking about himself differently. He started telling himself that perhaps he was not intelligent enough. Maybe he would always struggle. Maybe success was simply not meant for him. The failure had lasted only one examination, but David had allowed it to become a description of his entire life. The following morning, his youth leader called him. David explained what had happened. After listening to him, the youth leader said, “You failed an examination. You are not a failure.” Those words stayed with David. He went back to his books. This time, he changed his study habits. He asked questions when he did not understand something and stopped pretending that he understood what he did not. Months later, he sat for another examination. His result was much better. David learned something important. Falling was not the end of his story. Refusing to rise would have been. Today's Message Failure can make you question yourself. One mistake can make you believe that you are incapable of succeeding. But your failure is an event, not your identity. The Bible says that a righteous person may fall and still rise again. Notice that the scripture does not say the righteous never fall. It says they rise. God is not looking for people who have never made mistakes. He is looking for people who are willing to learn, repent when necessary, grow, and continue walking with Him. You may have failed in school, business, ministry, a relationship, or an important decision. You may have disappointed yourself. But do not allow one bad season to convince you that your entire future is ruined. Learn from what happened. Correct what needs to be corrected. Ask God for wisdom, and get up again. Your story is not over because you fell. What To Do Today 1. Identify what your failure taught you instead of only thinking about what you lost. 2. Correct one mistake that contributed to the failure. 3. Stop calling yourself what God has not called you. 4. Take another step instead of remaining discouraged. Prayer Lord, give me the strength to rise whenever I fall. Help me to learn from my mistakes without allowing them to destroy my confidence. Give me wisdom to do better and grace to keep moving forward. In Jesus' name, Amen. Daily Challenge Think about one failure that has been discouraging you. Jesus calls every thirsty soul to come to Him and receive the living water that only He can give. ✝️💧 There is a thirst in every human heart that money cannot satisfy, success cannot quench, relationships cannot completely fill, and worldly pleasures cannot permanently silence. Jesus stands as the answer to that deepest thirst. He does not merely offer us something to drink—He offers us Himself. ❤️‍🔥 🔥 THREE TRUTHS FROM JOHN 7 1️⃣ JESUS INVITES THE THIRSTY. 💧 «“If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” — John 7:37» Notice the words: “If any man.” The invitation is open to everyone. It does not matter how broken your past has been. It does not matter how far you have wandered. It does not matter how empty your heart feels. Jesus says: COME. Come with your weakness. The answer is found in Christ. 2️⃣ CHRIST IS THE SOURCE OF TRUE SATISFACTION. ❤️ The world constantly offers temporary solutions to spiritual hunger and thirst. It tells us to pursue possessions, pleasure, recognition and human approval. But everything the world offers eventually leaves us wanting more. Jesus offers something different. He gives living water—the life, presence and work of the Holy Spirit within the believer. When Christ becomes the centre of your life, you no longer have to depend on the world to define your worth or satisfy your soul. Jesus is enough. 🙏🏽 3️⃣ THE HOLY SPIRIT FLOWS THROUGH THE BELIEVER. 🔥💧 «“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” — John 7:38» Jesus does not intend for us to keep His life within ourselves. The living water is meant to flow. What God pours into you should become a blessing to others. Your testimony can encourage someone. Your prayers can strengthen someone. Your kindness can restore someone. Your witness can lead someone to Christ. A believer should not be a spiritual reservoir that only receives. We are called to become channels through which God's grace flows. ❤️‍🔥 🌿 TODAY'S REFLECTION What are you truly thirsty for? Are you thirsty for God—or are you constantly trying to satisfy your heart with the things of this world? Jesus is still calling: “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” Do not run to the world when your soul is thirsty. Run to Jesus. When you are empty—come to Jesus. When you are discouraged—come to Jesus. When you are spiritually dry—come to Jesus. When you need direction—come to Jesus. When you need peace—come to Jesus. The world may offer temporary refreshment, but Christ gives living water. Rip Off the Mask By Shelley Quinn August 14th, 2026 “Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.” Psalm 34:13 Finishing a brief therapy session, I slumped down on the side of my hospital bed. A charge nurse popped into my room to ask how I was doing. “Great,” I smiled. “How was your son’s game?” After our quick exchange I turned back to my therapist who sat on the window ledge, shaking his head. “You are your own worst enemy, Shelley!” My puzzled look prompted his further explanation. “I know you well enough now to know that when your pain becomes intolerable, you breathe in short gasps and perspiration beads on your forehead. But, you smile and gloss over your condition with a friendly word. Most people can’t be cheery when they’re suffering, and—hey—medical personnel are trained to determine treatment by reading facial expressions.” He had worked with me earlier that month during my first week of hospitalization, following a five-hour spinal surgery. I suffered several complications—including nerve damage in my groins and an irreparable rotator cuff tear. Now, I had been readmitted because I couldn’t walk. He called it correctly—brutal pain surged through my back, groins, and shoulder. His gentle rebuke echoed words from my distant past, when a spinal surgeon called me “my own worst enemy” for the same reason. I’m a “grin-and-bear it” kind of gal. Not wanting to be perceived as a whiner, I mask the truth with a smile, using verbal camouflage to hide my brokenness. Don’t pity me—you likely hide behind the same deflection technique. Have you ever arrived at church heavy-hearted, and when someone asked how you’re doing, you replied, “Doing great! Happy Sabbath!”? Later, you headed home with the same sadness, and no one had the opportunity to pray for you. Or you laugh off hurt feelings following a cutting remark, and never privately confront the abuser. Or a loved one asks, “Is something wrong?” and you hide your frustration with “No! I’m fine.” People are not mind readers! Our words define us. When we express ourselves honestly, we become visible. When we hide behind a mask of verbal camouflage, we are invisible to others. Some of us wall in our pain, and—sadly—we often feel as if no one really cares. Verbal camouflage is deceitful. I get it! We don’t want to wear our feelings on our sleeves. But we need to figure out an honest response to the casual question, “How are you?” If you’re not doing fine—don’t lie about it. While you don’t want to gush out unwanted details, a simple, “I’ll get better!” or “I’m trusting the Lord!” or “I’m blessed, no matter what!” are some of the possible responses. If the person is unknown to you, or too busy to stop for discovery, they’ll go on. If, however, they respond, “Tell me about it!” you will know God placed that person in your path to comfort you. Let’s rip off the mask and get real!

THE ADVENT TRUTH The debate over Junia has become one of the most common arguments used to justify women serving as pastors. But before anyone builds an entire doctrine on Romans 16:7, we should slow down and ask: What does the text actually say? First, we don’t even know with absolute certainty that Junia was female. The earliest Greek manuscripts were written in all capital letters without accent marks. Those manuscripts do not distinguish between the feminine Junia and the masculine Junias. The accents that identify the name as feminine were added centuries later. Many scholars believe the name is feminine, while others argue it could be masculine. The point is simple: the evidence isn’t so clear that this verse should overturn the broader testimony of Scripture. Second, even if Junia was a woman, Romans 16:7 still does not prove she held the office of pastor or elder. The Greek phrase can legitimately be translated either as “well known to the apostles” or “outstanding among the apostles.” Both renderings have scholarly support. Third, the word apostolos simply means “one who is sent.” In the New Testament it is used in more than one way. Jesus is called an Apostle (Hebrews 3:1). The Twelve were apostles. Paul was an apostle. Barnabas is called an apostle (Acts 14:14), and Epaphroditus is literally called “your apostle” in Philippians 2:25 (though many English versions translate it “messenger”). The word does not always refer to the governing office established by Christ. Finally, Romans 16 never calls her an elder, overseer, bishop, or pastor. When Scripture specifically gives the qualifications for those offices in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, it lays out a consistent pattern. A single debated name, a debated translation, and a debated use of the word “apostle” are not enough to overturn the clear pattern of Scripture. Sound doctrine is built by harmonizing all the evidence—not by allowing one difficult verse to reinterpret the rest of the Bible.

A Nugget of Truth. GOD’S WARNING AGAINST QUICK-PROFIT INVESTMENTS, WHAT CAN MONEY STEAL BEFORE IT IS EVER LOST? “He that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.” — Proverbs 28:20 God does not condemn honest business, careful saving, or wise investment. He warns against speculation—reckless ventures driven by haste, greed, excitement, and the dream of wealth without patient labor. The greatest danger is not an empty account. It is a heart emptied of Christ. Inspiration warns that the feverish desire to become rich quickly is contrary to the faith God’s people profess. --- ① IT AWAKENS A HUNGER MONEY CANNOT SATISFY Speculation whispers: “One more gain—then I will have enough.” But covetousness never says, “Enough.” “They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare.” — 1 Timothy 6:9 When money becomes necessary for peace, identity, or security— Christ is no longer treated as sufficient. --- ② IT REPLACES FAITH WITH FINANCIAL EXCITEMENT Faith asks: “Lord, what is Your will?” Greed asks: “How quickly can this multiply?” Soon charts are watched more carefully than Scripture. Prayer becomes hurried. Family worship weakens. Mission is postponed. “Trust… not in uncertain riches, but in the living God.” — 1 Timothy 6:17 Satan need not make us openly deny Christ— only too absorbed in gain to walk closely with Him. --- ③ IT RISKS THE MASTER’S PROPERTY Everything belongs to Christ. We are stewards—not owners. “It is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” — 1 Corinthians 4:2 Speculation treats God’s entrusted means as though no account must be given. Stewardship asks, “How can this serve Christ?” Greed asks, “How much can this serve me?” Every peso carries a responsibility. --- ④ IT PROMISES FREEDOM—BUT OFTEN CREATES BONDAGE Quick-profit ventures may begin with hope— then produce anxiety, secrecy, debt, sleeplessness, damaged homes, and desperate attempts to recover losses. Inspiration warns that speculative enterprises become a snare and may bring financial and spiritual ruin. Failure can empty the pocket. Success can enthrone greed. The worst bankruptcy is not financial. It is spiritual. --- ⑤ IT TRAINS THE CONSCIENCE TO COMPROMISE When profit rules the heart, conviction becomes negotiable. Truth may be softened. Dishonesty may be excused. Giving may feel like loss. The Sabbath may become inconvenient. “Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” — Matthew 6:24 Money is a useful servant— but a merciless master. A venture may earn greatly and still destroy the soul. “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” — Mark 8:36 --- ⑥ GOD’S WAY BUILDS BOTH PROVISION AND CHARACTER God’s path is not reckless haste, but: honest labor, patient diligence, careful planning, contentment, generosity, integrity, and trust in His providence. “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.” — Proverbs 13:11 Speculation wants the harvest without cultivation— the reward without discipline, the crown without the cross. But God is preparing more than our finances. He is preparing our characters for eternity. --- CHRIST IS THE TREASURE THAT CANNOT COLLAPSE Jesus did not grasp for gain. He surrendered everything to save us. “Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.” — 2 Corinthians 8:9 He exchanged heaven’s glory for Bethlehem’s poverty— and Calvary’s cross for our eternal life. No earthly return can equal the riches found in Christ. Therefore: Work honestly. Plan wisely. Reject greed-driven risk. Live within your means. Give generously. Seek Christ first. “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” — Matthew 6:20 The safest investment is not the one promising the fastest return. It is the one you can place before Jesus with a clear conscience, manage without covetousness, use to bless others, and explain faithfully in the judgment. Beloved, before asking, “How much can I earn?” Ask: “Will this strengthen my faith and serve Christ—or quietly make money my master?” A fortune gained while faith is lost is not profit. It is eternal bankruptcy.
