Matthew 19:13-26 After his treatise on divorce and marriage, Jesus is tired as the disciples are trying to limit the numbers of those approaching them. Again, Jesus emphasizes the importance of the Child and tells them that His kingdom only belongs to those who are as children. So Jesus lays hands on them, imparting blessings we will never know upon them. Then as He leaves there, He is approached by a man with the energy of an eager student speaking to his favorite professor asking what's going to be on the test. What good thing must I do to get eternal life? Jesus can see the eager attitude and this man's heart that he isn't truly willing to do what it takes to receive eternal life so he tells him simply, “Keep the commandments” At this the man probably felt good, “keep the commandments“? I could do that in my sleep. What else? And it's at this question that Jesus looks at him and sees his heart. Sees what it is that would make this man a true follower of Jesus and sees the first thing that will stop his progress. Which ones? The man asks and Jesus listed a few, do not murder being the first. I mean it's not all that difficult to not murder someone. And with the eager enthusiasm as a young student would have confidently asks a question you can just hear the tone of as Jesus has answered this man positively the previous three times he asked a question. You can almost hear the smugness as he asks, Is there anything else I lack? And Jesus addresses the one issue that will keep this man from obtaining eternal life, go, sell all you own to give to the poor and come follow me. And the young man walked away sad because he was rich. There's a saying I never really understood until recently “the poor are some of the most generous people on earth.” And I've seen it displayed over and over again. A homeless man offers a dollar to someone in more need than he is. While a rich man seals up his wallet and tucks it away when asked. But Jesus is cautioning his disciples about the rich. First, He is not saying that all rich people are condemned as some have done so based on a religion featuring a progressive political agenda that is not what He ever intended. Second, He's essentially saying that following Him will cost the disciple everything. If what you have, you cling to, it may be necessary to sell all you have. Any thing(s) that may get in the way of total dedication to Him must be cut off and eliminated. It truly is a heavy cost to follow Him. In some countries, following Him costs your life. In this country it's becoming more and more difficult to follow Him if you follow with biblical vigor and faith. For all it costs something, for some, it costs everything. [13] Then some children were brought to Him so that He would lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. [14] But Jesus said, “Leave the children alone, and do not forbid them to come to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” [15] After laying His hands on them, He departed from there. [16] And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do so that I may obtain eternal life?” [17] And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” [18] Then he *said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not give false testimony; [19] Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” [20] The young man *said to Him, “All these I have kept; what am I still lacking?” [21] Jesus said to him, “If you want to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” [22] But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property. [23] And Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I say to you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. [24] And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” [25] When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?” [26] And looking at them, Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Our Prayer for the Nations Tonight Heavenly Father, As we go to bed tonight, we lift before You the nations and peoples who are suffering under oppression, political injustice, poverty, unemployment, conflict, and bad governance. Remember those whose voices have been silenced, those who struggle to feed their families, young people whose opportunities have been taken away, and communities that have lived too long without peace and dignity. Your Word says: “He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy and shall break in pieces the oppressor.” Psalm 72:4 (KJV) Lord, we ask You to rise for the poor, the oppressed, the displaced, and the forgotten. Give wisdom and conscience to those who govern nations. Turn the hearts of leaders toward justice, accountability, compassion, and peace. Restrain those who use political power to oppress their people and raise up leaders who will serve rather than exploit. We also remember the teaching of the Book of Mormon: “And now, my brethren, I would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath.” Mosiah 4:21 Teach us, Lord, not to look away from the suffering of others. Give us generous hearts and willing hands to help those in need. Open doors of honest employment and opportunity for the unemployed. Provide food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, education for children, and hope for families struggling under poverty. Where there is war, bring peace. Where there is oppression, bring freedom. Where there is injustice, establish righteousness. Where there is poverty, provide provision. Where there is unemployment, open doors. Where there is corruption, raise voices of integrity. Where there is despair, restore hope. Father, make us instruments of Your peace. Give us courage to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves and wisdom to pursue justice without hatred or violence. As we sleep tonight, watch over the nations. Protect the innocent, strengthen the suffering, comfort those who mourn, and prepare a better tomorrow for those who have almost lost hope. May Your justice prevail, your peace reign, and Your mercy reach every oppressed people and every struggling family. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

"ENCOURAGEMENT--IT'S A POWERFUL THING" ‘If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging.’  Romans 12:8 NLT MANY A man and woman who quit would have kept going if they had just received a word of encouragement from someone. Encouragement is so vital that the Scriptures rank it up there with gifts like teaching and leadership (Romans 12:6-8). Here are two stories that illustrate the power of encouragement. Story one: Not long ago, the world watched as three grey whales, icebound off Point Barrow, Alaska, floated battered and bloody, gasping for breath at a hole in the ice. The whales’ only hope was to be somehow transported five miles past the ice pack to the open sea. Rescuers began cutting a string of breathing holes about twenty yards apart in the six-inch thick ice. For eight days they painstakingly coaxed the whales from one hole to the next, mile after mile. Along the way, one of the trio vanished and was presumed dead. But finally, with the help of Russian icebreakers, the other two whales, Putu and Siku, swam to freedom. Story two: Jackie Robinson was the first black player in the US to play major league baseball. While breaking baseball’s colour barrier, he faced jeering crowds in every stadium. Playing one day in his home stadium in Brooklyn, he made an error and his own fans began to boo him. As he stood, humiliated, at second base, ‘Pee Wee’ Reese came over and stood next to him. He put his arm around Robinson and they faced the crowd together. The fans grew quiet; the game continued. Robinson later said that arm around his shoulder saved his career! The blessing of Abraham passed on to him not just because he was Abraham's son, but because he, personally, loved and obeyed the Lord. God always blesses those children who love and obey Him. Isaac was not slothful or lazy either. Though he inherited covenant blessings from his father, yet, he worked very hard. Our Bible passage confirms that God blessed Isaac more and more. It is not enough to know and quote the promises of God for Him to bless you. If you know all the promises of God in your heart and fold your arms and do not work, the blessings of God's provision may not come. Isaac had all-round blessings. *The same God who promises to make you the head and not the tail, is the same who has warned us not to be slothful in business; but rather, consider the ants who work hard at the right time. None of the prophets gave comprehensive information on any of the subjects except those given by Jesus Christ and John the Beloved on the Island of Patmos. However, combining the revelation of those prophets will give a more comprehensive information of the things that must shortly come to pass. The closing verses of Joel present a prophetic picture of the events that will culminate in God's final judgment and the establishment of His righteous kingdom. These are not uncertain predictions, but divine decrees that must come to pass according to God's eternal purpose. The passage reminds believers that history is moving toward God's appointed climax, where every individual and nation will give an account before Him. Therefore, the wise prepare themselves spiritually, remain faithful and confidently await the fulfilment of God's promises. *1. The Determinate Valley of Decision* a. God created man as a free moral agent and therefore, he is expected to make his decisions and be fully responsible for his decisions. God only gives the needed information and persuades people to choose right and in the light of eternity. He told Israel as He still tells all today, *". I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: ".* Decision always determine destiny. Right and divinely informed decisions will lead to eternal life while carefree and selfish decisions will lead to eternal damnation. In the text, the prophet was made to see far into *"the day of the LORD"* and into the valley of decision. *"Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision..."*. *The day of the LORD* describes the gathering of nations before God's judgment. Decisions are both ways. Man must make His decision before that day when God will make His decision as to what to do with the wicked. The "valley of decision" is where people seal their choices after their decisions and where God pronounces His irreversible verdict. *The day of the LORD* is certain and no sinner will escape His righteous judgment. b. God always gives opportunities for people to make their decision and He also will judge all base on their personal and individual decisions made. While God's grace is available today, the opportunity to repent will not remain forever. Every person must respond to Christ before the day of divine judgment arrives. It was not only Joel that had the vision of impending judgment of nations and individuals. Virtually, most the prophets saw it and it is irreversible. It will happen. *Question* Are you living each day with the consciousness that you will one day stand before God's judgment seat? *2. The Deadly Visions of Destruction* a. Joel portrays terrifying cosmic disturbances: *". The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. "*. This has to do with the event at the Great Tribulation period preceding the Second Coming of Christ. Jesus confirmed it in Matthew 24:21,27-30. These signs reveal the majesty and holiness of God as He judges evil. The wrath of God during the Great Tribulation will be so fearful that *"the heavens and the earth shall shake"*. b. The prophet concentrates on the fate of Israel as a nation during this period. *"The LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel"*. Israel will be protected from the wicked onslaught of the Antichrist. Though the wicked will do wickedly, God's people will find refuge in Him. God's people will always be given shelter, protection and refuge from His wrath and the wickedness of the wicked.The same Lord who shakes heaven and earth is the secure shelter of those who trust Him. His judgment is dreadful for sinners, but comforting for the righteous. God is always our refuge in trouble. *Question* Is the Lord your refuge or are you relying on temporary earthly securities? *3.The Divine Visitations According to Decisions* a. The decisions people make will determine God's response to them. Every decision you make at any instance either draws you closer to God or farther away from God. Be always mindful of your decisions. Egypt and Edom will become desolate during the Millennial reign of Christ *"because they have shed innocent blood in their land"*. It is the opposite of the holy Jerusalem because they will be cleansed of their sins. In the time of the Millennial reign of Christ, there will be abundant prosperity, the visible presence of God and unlimited blessings for the godly. *"The mountains shall drop down......and the hills shall flow with milk"*. God's visitations are consistent with His justice: He rewards faithfulness and judges rebellion. Eternal blessing belongs to those who belong to Him. b. The wicked may appear to prosper and enjoy this world, but their end is regret, sorrow and judgment of God. The righteous may appear to lack and righteousness may not be fashionable in the land, but the righteous will always have the last laugh if they can endure faithfully to the end. *Question* Are your daily decisions leading you toward God's eternal blessings or toward His judgment? *Prayer Points* 1.Lord, help me to live every day in readiness for the coming Day of the Lord and to remain faithful until the end 🙏. 2.Father, be my refuge and strength in every trial and preserve me from the judgments coming upon the world 🙏. 3.Lord, let my decisions always align with Your perfect will so that I will enjoy Your favour and everlasting blessings 🙏. 4.Father, establish Your righteousness in our lives, keep us steadfast in Christ, make and keep us ready for Your glorious kingdom 🙏. *HYMN:* Have you counted the cost *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EXODUS 20-22. Let us never grieve You with selfish behavior, quarreling, or strife. Help us to offer You true hospitality, not just within our doors, but also within our hearts. He put his arm around Robinson and they faced the crowd together. The fans grew quiet; the game continued. Robinson later said that arm around his shoulder saved his career! Isaac was not slothful or lazy either. Though he inherited covenant blessings from his father, yet, he worked very hard. Our Bible passage confirms that God blessed Isaac more and more. It is not enough to know and quote the promises of God for Him to bless you. If you know all the promises of God in your heart and fold your arms and do not work, the blessings of God's provision may not come. Isaac had all-round blessings. *The same God who promises to make you the head and not the tail, is the same who has warned us not to be slothful in business; but rather, consider the ants who work hard at the right time. None of the prophets gave comprehensive information on any of the subjects except those given by Jesus Christ and John the Beloved on the Island of Patmos. However, combining the revelation of those prophets will give a more comprehensive information of the things that must shortly come to pass. The closing verses of Joel present a prophetic picture of the events that will culminate in God's final judgment and the establishment of His righteous kingdom. These are not uncertain predictions, but divine decrees that must come to pass according to God's eternal purpose. The passage reminds believers that history is moving toward God's appointed climax, where every individual and nation will give an account before Him. Therefore, the wise prepare themselves spiritually, remain faithful and confidently await the fulfilment of God's promises. *1. The Determinate Valley of Decision* a. God created man as a free moral agent and therefore, he is expected to make his decisions and be fully responsible for his decisions. God only gives the needed information and persuades people to choose right and in the light of eternity. He told Israel as He still tells all today, *". I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: ".* Decision always determine destiny. Right and divinely informed decisions will lead to eternal life while carefree and selfish decisions will lead to eternal damnation. In the text, the prophet was made to see far into *"the day of the LORD"* and into the valley of decision. *"Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision..."*. *The day of the LORD* describes the gathering of nations before God's judgment. Decisions are both ways. Man must make His decision before that day when God will make His decision as to what to do with the wicked. The "valley of decision" is where people seal their choices after their decisions and where God pronounces His irreversible verdict. *The day of the LORD* is certain and no sinner will escape His righteous judgment. b. God always gives opportunities for people to make their decision and He also will judge all base on their personal and individual decisions made. While God's grace is available today, the opportunity to repent will not remain forever. Every person must respond to Christ before the day of divine judgment arrives. It was not only Joel that had the vision of impending judgment of nations and individuals. Virtually, most the prophets saw it and it is irreversible. It will happen. *Question* Are you living each day with the consciousness that you will one day stand before God's judgment seat? *2. The Deadly Visions of Destruction* a. Joel portrays terrifying cosmic disturbances: *". The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. "*. This has to do with the event at the Great Tribulation period preceding the Second Coming of Christ. Jesus confirmed it in Matthew 24:21,27-30. These signs reveal the majesty and holiness of God as He judges evil. The wrath of God during the Great Tribulation will be so fearful that *"the heavens and the earth shall shake"*. b. The prophet concentrates on the fate of Israel as a nation during this period. *"The LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel"*. Israel will be protected from the wicked onslaught of the Antichrist. Though the wicked will do wickedly, God's people will find refuge in Him. God's people will always be given shelter, protection and refuge from His wrath and the wickedness of the wicked.The same Lord who shakes heaven and earth is the secure shelter of those who trust Him. His judgment is dreadful for sinners, but comforting for the righteous. God is always our refuge in trouble. *Question* Is the Lord your refuge or are you relying on temporary earthly securities? *3.The Divine Visitations According to Decisions* a. The decisions people make will determine God's response to them. Every decision you make at any instance either draws you closer to God or farther away from God. Be always mindful of your decisions. Egypt and Edom will become desolate during the Millennial reign of Christ *"because they have shed innocent blood in their land"*. It is the opposite of the holy Jerusalem because they will be cleansed of their sins. In the time of the Millennial reign of Christ, there will be abundant prosperity, the visible presence of God and unlimited blessings for the godly. *"The mountains shall drop down......and the hills shall flow with milk"*. God's visitations are consistent with His justice: He rewards faithfulness and judges rebellion. Eternal blessing belongs to those who belong to Him. b. The wicked may appear to prosper and enjoy this world, but their end is regret, sorrow and judgment of God. The righteous may appear to lack and righteousness may not be fashionable in the land, but the righteous will always have the last laugh if they can endure faithfully to the end. *Question* Are your daily decisions leading you toward God's eternal blessings or toward His judgment? *Prayer Points* 1.Lord, help me to live every day in readiness for the coming Day of the Lord and to remain faithful until the end 🙏. 2.Father, be my refuge and strength in every trial and preserve me from the judgments coming upon the world 🙏. 3.Lord, let my decisions always align with Your perfect will so that I will enjoy Your favour and everlasting blessings 🙏. 4.Father, establish Your righteousness in our lives, keep us steadfast in Christ, make and keep us ready for Your glorious kingdom 🙏. *HYMN:* Have you counted the cost *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* EXODUS 20-22. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: THURSDAY 9TH JULY 2026 TOPIC: THE CITY OF THE DEAD MEMORIZE: "And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;" Colossians 2:13 (KJV) BIBLE READING: EPHESIANS 2:1-6 1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: MESSAGE: Years ago, I visited a country which had one of the largest cemeteries in the world. On top of every grave in that cemetery, there is a concrete slab, and some homeless residents of that city lived in tents that were built over these slabs. For that reason, the cemetery was called 'the city of the dead'. Beloved, do you know that people who have not given their lives to Christ or who claim to have done so but are still indulging in sin are living in a spiritual city of the dead? Today's Bible reading tells us that we were once dead in our sins and trespasses before Jesus made us alive through His death and resurrection. He went to the city of the dead and took the keys of hell and death from satan (Revelation 1:18). Jesus died so that nobody would have to experience the torture of eternal death. If you are currently living in the city of the dead, I implore you to escape from there right now by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour before it is too late. Turn to Him today, and He will change your address from the city of the dead to the Kingdom of Life. If you are God's child, it is your responsibility to preach the gospel to those who haven't given their lives to Jesus Christ. Don't be so busy minding your business that you neglect the Lord's business of witnessing to lost souls. Sometimes, the blessing you desire is hidden in your obedience to the Lord's command to preach the gospel and make disciples of all nations. Years ago, a lady was praying to God for a husband, and God told her, "Go out and win souls. Your husband is not part of My family yet." She obeyed and focused on preaching to the lost. About six months later, she came to me and said, "Daddy, I have a problem." I asked her what the problem was, and she said, "One of the converts that I have just won to Christ says that he wants to marry me." I asked her to pray about it and accept his proposal if she's convinced about him. Today, they are one of the best couples that I know. Beloved, if God has saved you from the city of the dead, don't be selfish; reach out to those who are still living there so they can also join you in His Kingdom of Life. The Lord has blessed me these past 4 years by preaching to 2 nursing home residents and workers, and once a month speaking to the homeless in our community. I have been privileged to lead 5 to Christ in the nursing homes and two weeks ago, 4 of our homeless. I cannot wait to see how He will bless me in the future. Remember to use your words. True Worship That Pleases God Today's Scripture: Isaiah 58 Many people think that worship is only about praying, fasting, singing, or attending church. But in Isaiah 58, God reveals that true worship goes much deeper. He is not looking for empty religious activities—He desires hearts that reflect His love, mercy, and justice. The people of Israel wondered why God did not respond to their fasting. God explained that while they were fasting, they were also mistreating others, ignoring the poor, and living without compassion. Their outward acts of worship did not match the condition of their hearts. God declared that the kind of fasting He has chosen is to loosen the chains of injustice, free the oppressed, share food with the hungry, welcome the homeless, clothe those in need, and care for others with genuine love. This is the worship that brings honor to Him. When we obey God's heart, He promises wonderful blessings. Our light will shine like the dawn, healing will come, the Lord will guide us continually, strengthen us in difficult times, answer our prayers, and make us a blessing to others. Even in dry seasons, God will refresh our souls and restore what has been broken. Isaiah 58 reminds us that our faith is not measured only by what happens inside a church building but by how we live every day. A heart full of compassion, generosity, forgiveness, and obedience is a powerful testimony of God's love. Today, let us ask ourselves: Am I only practicing religion, or am I living out God's love? Do my actions reflect the compassion of Christ? Am I willing to be God's hands and feet to someone in need today? May our worship be more than words.
