THE LIFE OF A CHRISTIAN IN A CHALLENGING WORLD By Pastor Jonathan O. Ubah Introduction We are living in a world that is changing rapidly. Values are shifting, truth is being questioned, morality is being redefined, and many people are under pressure to compromise their convictions just to fit into society. Yet, the Christian is called to live differently. Jesus never promised His followers a life without challenges. In fact, He said, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33, NKJV). The Christian life is not a promise of the absence of trouble; it is a promise of God's presence in the midst of trouble. We may walk through difficult seasons, but we do not walk through them alone. A challenging world requires Christians who know their God, understand their identity, stand firmly on God's Word, and refuse to allow the darkness around them to extinguish the light within them. 1. THE CHRISTIAN MUST KNOW WHO HE IS One of the greatest dangers in a challenging world is losing your identity. The world constantly tells us who we should become, what we should value, what success should look like, and what standards we should follow. But the believer must derive his identity from God, not from society. 1 Peter 2:9 says: «“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people.”» You are not merely a product of your environment. You are God's possession. When you know who you are in Christ, you will not need the approval of everyone around you to feel valuable. Your identity is not determined by your failures, your past, your social status, your possessions, or people's opinions about you. You belong to Christ. 2. THE CHRISTIAN MUST STAND ON GOD'S WORD A changing world needs an unchanging standard. Psalm 119:105 declares, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God's Word gives us direction when culture becomes confusing. It gives us conviction when compromise becomes attractive. It gives us hope when circumstances become discouraging. The Christian who neglects Scripture will eventually become vulnerable to the philosophies of the world. We must therefore become students of the Word. Do not build your life solely on what people say. Build it on what God has said. People can change. Circumstances can change. Governments can change. Economies can change. Relationships can change. But the Word of our God stands forever. 3. THE CHRISTIAN MUST REFUSE TO CONFORM Romans 12:2 says: «“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”» There is a difference between living in the world and becoming like the world. Jesus prayed for His disciples in John 17:15-16. He did not ask the Father to remove them from the world but to preserve them while they remained in it. This means Christianity is not an escape from society. It is a divine assignment within society. We are called to influence the world without allowing the world to influence our convictions. You can work in a corrupt environment without becoming corrupt. You can live among people who compromise without compromising. You can be surrounded by darkness and still carry light. 4. THE CHRISTIAN MUST DEVELOP SPIRITUAL STRENGTH A challenging world requires spiritual strength. Ephesians 6:10 says, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” Our strength does not come merely from personality, education, wealth, connections, or experience. There are battles that human strength cannot win. Therefore, we must strengthen our relationship with God through prayer, worship, fasting, the study of Scripture, fellowship, and obedience. A weak spiritual life makes a believer vulnerable to temptation, fear, discouragement, bitterness, and compromise. Prayer is not simply an emergency telephone call to God. Prayer is fellowship with our Father. We must learn to seek God not only when we need something from Him but because we desire Him. 5. THE CHRISTIAN MUST LEARN TO FACE TRIALS WITH FAITH Challenges are part of the journey. James 1:2-4 teaches believers to count it joy when they face various trials because testing produces patience and spiritual maturity. This does not mean that pain is pleasant. It means that God can use difficult seasons to produce something valuable in us. Sometimes God changes the situation. Sometimes He gives us grace to endure it. Sometimes He uses the situation to change us. Whatever the case may be, we must refuse to allow adversity to destroy our faith. Your trial is not the end of your story. The fact that you are going through something does not mean that God has abandoned you. David passed through valleys and still testified of God's presence. Daniel faced the lions and discovered that God was with him. The three Hebrew young men entered the fiery furnace, but they were not alone. God remains faithful in the fire. 6. THE CHRISTIAN MUST GUARD HIS HEART Proverbs 4:23 says: «“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”» The world constantly feeds our hearts with fear, hatred, lust, greed, envy, anger, and materialism. If we are not careful, what surrounds us will eventually influence what is within us. That is why believers must guard what they watch, what they listen to, what they celebrate, what they meditate upon, and the relationships they cultivate. Not everything that is popular is profitable. Not everything that is trending is godly. Not every opportunity is an assignment from God. A Christian must learn to say NO when necessary. 7. THE CHRISTIAN MUST BE LIGHT IN A DARK WORLD Jesus said in Matthew 5:14: “You are the light of the world.” Notice that Jesus did not say, “You will become light someday.” He said, “You are the light.” Light has no argument with darkness. It simply shines. The world does not necessarily need Christians who shout the loudest; it needs Christians whose lives demonstrate the reality of Christ. Your workplace should experience your integrity. Your family should experience your love. Your community should experience your kindness. Your generation should see Christ through your character. We preach with our mouths, but we also preach through our lives. 8. THE CHRISTIAN MUST LOVE PEOPLE IN A HURTING WORLD A challenging world is also a hurting world. People are carrying wounds that we cannot see. Some are fighting silent battles. Some have lost hope. Some have been disappointed by life, relationships, institutions, and even religion. The Christian must therefore become an instrument of God's love. Jesus said in John 13:35: “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Our Christianity must not become merely a collection of religious activities. We must love. We must forgive. We must encourage. We must help. We must show compassion. Sometimes the greatest sermon you will preach is the kindness you show to someone who is hurting. 9. THE CHRISTIAN MUST KEEP HIS EYES ON ETERNITY One of the reasons believers compromise is that they become too attached to temporary things. Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 4:18 to focus not merely on the things that are seen, but on the things that are eternal. This world is not our final destination. Our possessions are temporary. Our positions are temporary. Our earthly achievements are temporary. But eternity is forever. Therefore, we must live with eternity in view. Do not gain the whole world and lose your soul. Do not sacrifice your relationship with God for temporary pleasure. Do not exchange eternal treasures for temporary applause. 10. THE CHRISTIAN MUST NEVER GIVE UP Perhaps the greatest testimony in a challenging world is simply refusing to quit. Galatians 6:9 says: «“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”» There may be moments when you feel tired. There may be moments when your prayers seem unanswered. There may be moments when you wonder whether your faith is worth the struggle. But keep going. Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep serving. Keep loving. Keep trusting God. Your present struggle does not cancel God's purpose for your life. CONCLUSION The life of a Christian in a challenging world is not always easy, but it is possible by the grace of God. We are called to live differently—not because we are better than others, but because Christ has called us to represent Him. We are called to stand when others fall. To shine when others walk in darkness. To speak truth when falsehood becomes popular. To demonstrate love when hatred increases. To maintain faith when circumstances become difficult. And to remain faithful until the end. Remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Beloved, the world may be challenging, but God is still faithful. The culture may be changing, but God's Word has not changed. The pressure may be increasing, but God's grace is sufficient. The darkness may be growing, but your light can still shine. Therefore, stand firm. Stay prayerful. Stay in the Word. Stay holy. Stay humble. Stay faithful. And above all, keep your eyes on Jesus. PRAYER Father, in the name of Jesus, give me the grace to live faithfully in this challenging world. Strengthen my heart when I am weak, guide me when I am confused, preserve me when I am tempted, and help me to remain a light wherever You have planted me. Let my life bring glory to Your name. TODAY'S KINGDOM INSIGHTS: SERMON TOPIC CONTENTMENT IN AN AGE OF MATERIALISM. THEME : Learning to be satisfied with God while living in a world that constantly tells us, “You need more.” Key Text: 1 Timothy 6:6–8 > “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” 1. WHEN IS ENOUGH REALLY ENOUGH? We live in an age where “more” has become a god. More money. More clothes. More followers. More cars. More houses. More recognition. More likes. More possessions. The world keeps telling us: “When you get that car, you will be happy.” “When you build that house, you will be fulfilled.” “When you become famous, you will finally matter.” But after getting one thing, we discover that we immediately want another. That is the trap of materialism. Materialism says, “I have more, therefore I am more.” But Jesus says: > “A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” — Luke 12:15 You can have a beautiful house and still have a broken home. You can have money in your account and emptiness in your soul. You can have thousands of followers and still feel completely alone. You can own many things without allowing those things to own your heart. Contentment is not the absence of ambition. Contentment is the ability to pursue God's purpose without allowing possessions to become your master. 2. WHAT IS BIBLICAL CONTENTMENT? Contentment is a settled confidence that God is enough, even while we are trusting Him for more. Contentment does not mean: You should stop working. You should stop dreaming. You should stop improving yourself. You should refuse legitimate opportunities. You should remain in poverty when God gives you wisdom and opportunity to prosper. Rather, contentment means: “I will work for more, but I will not worship more.” “I will pursue success, but success will not become my god.” “I will appreciate what I have while trusting God for what I don't yet have.” Paul declared: > “For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” — Philippians 4:11 Notice the word learned. Contentment is learned. Nobody automatically becomes content. It requires spiritual maturity. 3. KEY BIBLE VERSES A. 1 Timothy 6:6–8 — GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT IS GREAT GAIN Paul says: > “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” Paul does not say money is evil. The Bible says: > “The love of money is the root of all evil.” — 1 Timothy 6:10 The problem is not having possessions. The problem is possessions having you. Money is a useful servant but a terrible master. When money becomes your identity, you become its slave. B. Hebrews 13:5 — GOD'S PRESENCE IS GREATER THAN POSSESSIONS > “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." Notice God's solution to covetousness: His presence. Why should I not destroy myself trying to possess everything? Because I already possess something greater: God is with me. If God is with you, you are not empty. C. Matthew 6:33 — SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM > “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Jesus did not say: “Seek possessions first.” He said: “Seek the Kingdom first.” When priorities are right, possessions find their proper place. 4. FOUR DANGERS OF MATERIALISM POINT ONE: MATERIALISM MAKES US CONFUSE POSSESSIONS WITH PURPOSE Some people spend their entire lives acquiring things without discovering why God gave them life. They know what they want to own, but they don't know what they were created to accomplish. Your purpose is bigger than your possessions. You were not born merely to: Buy a car Build a house Wear expensive clothes Travel around the world Accumulate wealth You were created to know God, serve Him, love people, fulfill your assignment, and leave an impact. Jesus asked: > “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” — Mark 8:36 Never exchange your soul for things that will eventually perish. POINT TWO: MATERIALISM CREATES THE NEVER-ENOUGH SYNDROME Materialism says: “Just one more.” You buy one phone. Then another model comes out. You want it. You buy one car. Then you see another one. You want it. You get one house. Then you start comparing your house with somebody else's. This produces a dangerous cycle: Desire → acquisition → temporary satisfaction → comparison → dissatisfaction → another desire. Ecclesiastes 5:10 says: > “He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver.” There is a level of wealth that money cannot solve. If your heart is empty, increasing your possessions will not automatically fill it. Only God can satisfy the deepest hunger of the human soul. POINT THREE: CONTENTMENT PROTECTS US FROM COMPARISON Social media has made comparison easier than ever. You see someone's wedding. Someone else's car. Someone's ministry. Someone's business. Someone's vacation. Someone's new house. Someone's achievement. And suddenly you look at your own life and say: “I am behind.” But remember: You are comparing your real life with someone else's public presentation. You don't know their struggles. You don't know their sacrifices. You don't know what happens behind the camera. The Bible says: > “But they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” — 2 Corinthians 10:12 Comparison can make you despise a blessing because it does not look like somebody else's blessing. Thank God for what He has given you. Improve where you can. Grow where you must. But don't allow comparison to steal your gratitude. POINT FOUR: CONTENTMENT TEACHES US TO SEE POSSESSIONS AS STEWARDSHIP Everything we have ultimately belongs to God. Psalm 24:1 says: > “The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof.” Your money belongs to God. Your house belongs to God. Your talents belong to God. Your time belongs to God. Your influence belongs to God. Your opportunities belong to God. Therefore, the question is not merely: “How much do I have?” The greater question is: “What am I doing with what God has placed in my hands?” God does not bless us merely to make us comfortable. He blesses us so that we can become channels of blessing. 5. BIBLICAL CASE STUDY — THE RICH FOOL. Jesus told the story in Luke 12:13–21. A rich man's land produced abundantly. He said: > “I will pull down my barns, and build greater.” His entire conversation was about my crops, my barns, my goods, my soul. But God said: > “Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee." What was the man's problem? He had possessions but no eternal perspective. He had storage for his wealth but no preparation for his soul. He planned for retirement but failed to prepare for eternity. He accumulated things but neglected God. Jesus concluded: > “So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” The lesson: It is possible to be rich toward the world and poor toward God. 6. DEEP SPIRITUAL INSIGHTS 1. CONTENTMENT IS NOT LAZINESS A contented Christian can still be hardworking. Joseph was content in God's presence even in prison, yet he eventually became a ruler. Paul worked. David worked. Proverbs praises diligence. Contentment does not kill ambition. It purifies ambition. 2. GRATITUDE IS THE ANTIDOTE TO GREED When you constantly focus on what you don't have, you become blind to what God has already done. Start counting your blessings. You may discover that you have been complaining about things you once prayed for. 3. YOUR VALUE DOES NOT COME FROM WHAT YOU OWN You are valuable because you were created in God's image. Your worth is not determined by your bank balance. Not by your clothes. Not by your followers. Not by your car. Not by your academic qualifications. Not by your social status. Your identity must be rooted in Christ. 4. GOD CAN GIVE YOU MORE WITHOUT ALLOWING MORE TO DESTROY YOU God is not against prosperity. But God wants prosperity with purpose. He wants blessing without bondage. Increase without idolatry. Wealth without wickedness. Success without losing your soul. The blessing is dangerous when the blessing becomes more important than the Blesser. 7. PRACTICAL ACTION STEPS 1. Practice daily gratitude Every day, intentionally thank God for at least three things. 2. Stop unnecessary comparison You don't need to compete with everybody. 3. Live within your means Don't destroy your financial future trying to impress people. 4. Learn to distinguish NEEDS from WANTS Ask yourself: “Do I need this, or do I simply desire this because somebody else has it?” 5. Give generously Giving breaks the grip of materialism. 6. Invest in eternal things Invest in: God's Kingdom People Your character Your family Your spiritual growth Your God-given assignment 7. Enjoy what God has given you Contentment means appreciating today's blessing while preparing responsibly for tomorrow. 8. QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION 1. What possession occupies my thoughts more than God does? 2. Am I pursuing success or worshipping success? 3. Do I compare my life with others? 4. If God does not give me everything I desire, will I still worship Him? 5. Am I grateful for what I already have? 6. Does my money serve God's purpose or merely my pleasure? 7. If everything I owned disappeared tomorrow, would Christ still be enough for me? That last question deserves serious reflection. 9. POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS 1 Father, deliver my heart from greed, covetousness, and unhealthy materialism, in Jesus' name. 2 Lord, teach me to appreciate what You have given me without losing my desire to fulfill my purpose. 3 Father, remove every spirit of comparison from my heart. Help me to celebrate Your work in my life. 4 Lord, let money never become my master. Give me wisdom to use every blessing for Your glory. 5 Father, give me the grace to seek Your Kingdom above material possessions. 6 Lord, make me rich toward You and useful to humanity. 7 Father, give me contentment in every season—when I have much and when I have little. 10. STRONG CLOSING — WHAT DO YOU REALLY NEED? Beloved, the world will never stop telling you: “You need more.” But the Holy Spirit is asking: “Do you have Me?” You may not have everything you want. But if you have Christ, you have the greatest treasure. You may not live in the biggest house. But you can have the presence of God in your home. You may not drive the most expensive car. But you can walk in God's purpose. You may not have millions in your account. But you can possess something money cannot buy: peace with God, joy in your heart, purpose in your life, and hope for eternity. So pursue excellence. Work hard. Build. Create. Dream. Invest. Grow. Prosper. But never allow material things to become your master. Have possessions, but don't let possessions have you. Seek success, but don't sacrifice your soul for it. Desire increase, but remain grateful in the process. And above everything else: > “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness.” — Matthew 6:33 FINAL DECLARATION I will not be controlled by materialism. I will not measure my worth by what I possess. I will not allow comparison to steal my joy. I will be grateful for what God has given me. I will pursue God's purpose for my life. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. *1 JOHN 2:15.* 15. Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. *TOPIC:* SET YOUR HEART ON ETERNAL THINGS. *THE MESSAGE:* The youth of the 21st century is preoccupied with worldly affairs. Today's text urges the believers to shift their focus from worldly pursuits to eternal values. It warns that loving the world and its fleeting pleasures hinders one from experiencing God's love and grace. Loving the world and mundane things is an indication that the love of the Father is absent. Earthly things are temporary, while eternal things last forever. To truly walk with God and be used by Him, young people must let go of materialism and worldly entanglements, setting their hearts on things above. You can achieve this through constant study of the word, a life of prayer, and fellowship with the brethren. On what have you set your heart? TRULY BORN AGAIN "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" - 2 Corinthians 5:17 There are a few essential points when it concerns being born again. 1) There must be a confession of sins. In other words: you must regret your sins. You have to acknowledge that you have sinned against God. An example is King David's prayer which shows his remorse: 'Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love… Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin… Against You, You only, have I sinned' (Psalm 51:1-4). 2) You have to know what Jesus Christ did at Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus Christ is the only One who can take sin away. 'The blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin' (1 John 1:7). 3) There must be a real change in your heart when you are born again. This change is so great that you can say like 2 Corinthians 5:17 that you are created again by God. A whole new life has begun. A radical change These are the essential points to be truly born again. It is not only by believing that you come to heaven; nor do you get to heaven because you go to church. The evil one also believes that Jesus is the Son of God. There are so many things people say which make them think they are born again. My question is: 'what happened when you gave your life to Jesus'? To truly be born again this radical change has to take place in your life. This change makes you turn your back on your old self. " PATRIA POTESTAS" '...you received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing son-ship]...’ Romans 8:15 NKJV PAUL’S AUDIENCE would have understood his use of Roman adoption in teaching the benefits we receive as redeemed members of God’s family. A Roman father held absolute right and control, legally entitled ‘patria potestas’, over his children at any age. Roman adoption was a two-step process that transferred children from one patria potestas to another. 1) Emancipation. This step included a symbolic sale where the natural father twice ‘sold’ and ‘bought back’ his child, and a third where he didn’t buy them back, ending his paternal rights. 2) Vindication. Here the adoptive father presented his case for adoption to a Roman magistrate, who legally transferred the child to his patria potestas. Likewise, we have been transferred from satan’s grip to our heavenly Father’s blessed patria potestas! The benefits of Roman adoption were Paul’s chief focus in Romans chapter eight: a) The adopted person lost all rights in their old family and gained a new father, plus all rights of a legitimate member of their new family. b) They became heir to their new father’s estate. When there were other siblings, they became joint-heirs together. c) All their debts were completely cancelled, legal records of their history were expunged; the past had no effect on their new life. d) Seven citizens witnessed all legal adoptions. If the adoptee’s legitimacy was ever challenged, each witness could testify to their legitimate standing. Thank God, ‘The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children’ (Romans 8:16 NIV). No less than the Holy Spirit Himself validates your membership in God’s family! Newton (1905 - 1999) related the story of Thomas A. Edison, who was working on a light bulb, which took a team of men 24 hours to complete. When he finished, he gave it to a young boy to carry upstairs. The boy held it nervously and mistakenly dropped it at the top of the stairs. The entire team took 24 more hours to make another bulb. Finally, tired and ready for a break, Edison was prepared to have his bulb carried up the stairs. He handed it to the same young boy who had dropped the first one. That was a demonstration of true forgiveness.* *Apostle Paul, in today's text, showed similar forgiveness to an errant member of the Corinthian church. The young man was involved in the egregious sin of sleeping with his father's wife. News of this incest and the associated scandal so grieved the apostle that he cancelled his planned trip to them and wrote a stern rebuke, instructing them to excommunicate the offender. With time, when the discipline had had the expected effect of godly sorrow and repentance on both the incestuous fellow and the church, the apostle recommended that the man be restored fully to fellowship. The penitent offender needed the forgiveness and acceptance of the church to assuage his agony and recover his spiritual confidence.* *This narrative highlights a balanced blend of chastisement and charity. Apostle Paul reasoned that abandoning the excommunicated offender, even after his repentance, would cause him further torture and give Satan a chance to hijack the affair; "...for we are not ignorant of his devices", he said. Many believers seem to be ignorant of Satan's devices in this regard. Very often, a fallen Christian is left to rot on the island of banishment. Many such forgotten ones would have traced their way back home to Calvary and church, but for the hostile attitude of the believers around them.* *If God, Apostle Paul, and the Corinthian church could forgive the repentant incestuous backslider, who are we to keep such fallen brethren away from the means of grace? A church without discipline for erring members is not a church of Christ, but a mere association of religious people. God disciplines those that err and He expects us to follow suit. *"But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons"* (Hebrews 12:8). It is not designed to destroy offenders, but to correct, restore and preserve the purity of Christ's church. In this passage, Apostle Paul instructed the Corinthian believers on how to handle a repentant offender. He emphasized that discipline must be fair. Repentance and forgiveness must be genuine and believers must be vigilant against Satan's schemes. Every church should maintain a proper balance between firmness against sin and compassion toward the repentant. The attitude of those on discipline should also reflect humility and teachability according to the Word of God. *1. Proportionateness in Discipline* a. The offender committed immorality with his step mother. That was a heinous sin with no sign of remorse from the culprit and no discipline from the church leadership, until Apostle Paul rebuked them of the gravity of the sin. The man was eventually, excommunicated from the church (1 Corinthians 5). The most serious sin next to physical murder attracted the most serious discipline of excommunication. The discipline must be commensurate with the evil or wrongs that need to be judged or corrected. Paul the apostle declared that the punishment already administered by the majority was sufficient. This teaches that discipline must always be proportionate to the offence and should never become an instrument of revenge or bitterness. There are disciplines that only demand rebuke while there are some that will have more severe punishment. The punishment is to show God's displeasure with sin and to wake up the backslider or sinner from spiritual slumber. b. The first is to determine the gravity of the sin and what we want the punishment to achieve, which is majorly restoration. Once the purpose of correction has been achieved, prolonged discipline only produces unnecessary pain. God expects church leaders to administer discipline with wisdom, fairness and love, remembering that the ultimate goal is restoration rather than condemnation. This person was restored to membership and fellowship when the purpose of the excommunication was fulfilled. In fact, the church was not willing to shorten the punishment until Apostle Paul passionately, intervened. True and right attitude of repentance and restitution should command total and timely forgiveness and restoration, especially when the tendency to revert to such things have been crucified and destroyed. *Question* Do I administer correction with love and fairness or do I prolong discipline beyond what is necessary? *2. Pardon for Deserving* a. After genuine repentance comes genuine forgiveness. The man had the right attitude towards discipline. Some church members are averse to church discipline. Instead of enduring the pain, they decide to go to other churches where their sins would be overlooked. Such are not heaven bound. This man had originally separated himself from the Gentile sinners and identified with believers in Corinth. But the discipline put him in isolation from the only set of people he was closed with, i.e. the believers. Obviously, it is expected that there would be loneliness, isolation and sorrow. Since he refused to go back to the world, but endured the punishment, that was a commendable and expected attitude. b. Paul the apostle urged the church to forgive, comfort, and reaffirm their love for the disciplined brother so that he would not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. True Christian discipline always opens the door for restoration. Refusing to forgive a repentant believer contradicts the grace that God has freely extended to us in Christ. Forgiveness heals wounds, restores fellowship and reflects the heart of the gospel. The same thing happens when we are offended by fellow believers. We should be magnanimous in grace and forgiveness when there is genuine repentance. *Question* Am I willing to forgive and restore those who sincerely repent, just as Christ has forgiven me? *3. Projects of the Devils* a. Satan is never idle or passive. He has his own mapped out agenda, plans, projects for the saints and he always looks out for loopholes and times of carelessness through which he strikes at the least prepared time against the saints. Apostle Paul warned that unnecessarily prolonging the discipline and failure to forgive could give Satan an advantage over the church. The devil exploits bitterness, division, resentment and unforgiveness to weaken Christian fellowship. b. While discipline protects the church from sin, unforgiveness opens the door to Satan's destructive work. Believers must therefore, remain spiritually discerning, resisting every scheme of the enemy by walking in love, humility and reconciliation. *Question* Is there any unforgiveness or bitterness in my heart that could give the devil an opportunity in my life or church? *Prayer Points* 1.Lord, grant me the wisdom to uphold biblical discipline with justice, love and compassion 🙏. 2.Father, give me a forgiving heart that willingly restores every genuinely repentant believer 🙏. 3.Give me the right attitude of humility, patience and teachability when I am rebuked or put under discipline 🙏. 4.Lord, deliver Your church from bitterness, division and every scheme of Satan 🙏. *HYMN:* Lower and lower *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOHN 8-9. In other words: you must regret your sins. You have to acknowledge that you have sinned against God. An example is King David's prayer which shows his remorse: 'Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your unfailing love… Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin… Against You, You only, have I sinned' (Psalm 51:1-4). 2) You have to know what Jesus Christ did at Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. Jesus Christ is the only One who can take sin away. 'The blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin' (1 John 1:7). 3) There must be a real change in your heart when you are born again. This change is so great that you can say like 2 Corinthians 5:17 that you are created again by God. A whole new life has begun. A radical change These are the essential points to be truly born again. It is not only by believing that you come to heaven; nor do you get to heaven because you go to church. The evil one also believes that Jesus is the Son of God. There are so many things people say which make them think they are born again. My question is: 'what happened when you gave your life to Jesus'? To truly be born again this radical change has to take place in your life. This change makes you turn your back on your old self. When Wrong Stops Feeling Wrong What happens to a society when it no longer asks, “Is this right?” but only, “Will people accept it?” That may be one of the defining questions of our generation. We live in an age where technology has advanced beyond imagination, yet moral certainty seems to be fading. Truth is increasingly measured by popularity, and convictions are often traded for approval. Many people are afraid to speak honestly—not because they lack beliefs, but because they fear being shamed, rejected, or “cancelled.” Silence has become safer than conviction. History has shown that when a culture repeatedly normalizes what it once questioned, people gradually stop recognizing the difference between right and wrong. What was once debated becomes celebrated. What was once considered harmful becomes ordinary. Eventually, anyone who raises a concern is labeled intolerant, outdated, or hateful. The Bible warns that this would happen. The prophet Isaiah wrote, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness” (Isaiah 5:20). Those words are as unsettling today as they were thousands of years ago. This is not simply about one issue or one group of people. Immorality takes many forms. Pride, greed, pornography, adultery, sexual immorality, dishonesty, drunkenness, addiction, exploitation, hatred, materialism, and the worship of self all find fertile ground when a culture places personal desire above God’s truth. Scripture confronts every one of these, regardless of who practices them. No one stands above God’s call to repentance. Our generation often celebrates the message, “Live your truth.” Yet Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). The difference is profound. One places the individual at the center; the other places God at the center. Love has also been redefined. Real love is no longer simply wanting the good of another person; it is sometimes assumed to mean affirming every choice without question. But biblical love is deeper than affirmation. It is patient, kind, truthful, and willing to confront what destroys us. A doctor who ignores a disease is not loving. A parent who never corrects a child is not loving. In the same way, Christians believe that speaking God’s truth with humility and compassion can be an expression of love. This does not give believers permission to become harsh or self-righteous. Jesus welcomed sinners, ate with them, and showed extraordinary compassion. At the same time, He called people to repentance and new life. He never lowered God’s standard, yet He never withheld God’s mercy. Truth and grace walked together. Cancel culture can tempt people to measure morality by applause rather than by conscience. But Christians are called to test every idea against God’s Word, not against the changing opinions of society. If our convictions rise and fall with public opinion, they are not convictions at all. The question each generation must answer is not whether the Bible will change. It is whether we will. The world will always move with the current. Following Christ has often meant swimming against it. That path has never been the easiest, but according to Scripture, it is the one that leads to life. We are the Generation Z—connected to the world like never before, yet often disconnected from God. Every day we are surrounded by voices telling us to follow our hearts, chase pleasure, seek validation, and live for ourselves. Many of our generation are drawn into pornography, drugs, alcohol, vaping, sexual immorality, same-sex relationships, the pursuit of fame, materialism, and an attitude of entitlement that says, “My desires matter more than God’s will.” These promises of freedom often leave behind brokenness, loneliness, anxiety, and emptiness. But Jesus Christ calls us to a different path—a path of love, holiness, truth, and eternal hope. He doesn’t reject us because of our past; He invites us to repentance, forgiveness, and a transformed life. As young worshippers, we are called to stand firm when the world tells us to compromise, to love people without compromising God’s truth, and to choose Christ over temporary pleasures. True freedom is not found in following every desire but in surrendering our lives to Jesus. Let us be a generation that worships instead of wanders, prays instead of panics, serves instead of seeks applause, and stands for Christ even when we stand alone. Our identity is not found in culture, trends, or social media—it is found in Christ alone. Many people are sinking today because they are focusing more on problems, social media, criticism, money, bad news, and worldly pressure than on God. Whenever your eyes leave God, fear becomes bigger than faith, challenges become bigger than promises, and problems become bigger than prayer. The devil wants you to focus on your weaknesses, your past, your pain, your enemies, and your limitations. But God says: “Look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…” Many people begin in the Spirit but end in the flesh. This is because their focus changed from prayer to pleasure, from holiness to compromise, from ministry to materialism, from God to self. Samson was anointed, powerful, and chosen by God. But he lost focus. Instead of guarding his calling, he pursued wrong desires. The results were immediate: strength disappeared, vision was lost, enemies captured him and his destiny was delayed. Many destinies are under attack today because people have lost spiritual concentration. The enemy does not always attack with battles; sometimes he attacks with distractions. Avoid unnecessary distractions Not every invitation deserves your attention. There was one man whose focus was never broken — JESUS CHRIST. Through rejection, betrayal, temptation, suffering, persecution, pain, and the cross, His focus remained steady. He never allowed pressure to change His purpose. Jesus Christ was fought by hell. People rejected Him, the cross wounded Him, but His focus remained on the will of God. Jesus Christ believed in Himself. That is why no one could change His opinion of Himself, what He was about - His product. When you are doing what you really love to do best, nothing can stop you. No matter the opposition, criticism, persecution, intimidation, blackmail, name calling, campaign of calumny, slanderous remarks, etc, you will continue to go on and on. When you know you are who God says you are, you will stay focused on your goal alone and nothing can change your focus. Jesus Christ could have called angels to rescue Him from being crucified. Remember, He could come down from the cross unhurt. The Bible says He made a decision that created an incredible future. He was willing to go through a season of pain to create an eternity of gain. Sometimes, we must be ready to do things we hate to create something we love. During storms, trials and pleasures, He never allowed worldly praises, fame or wealth to control Him. Paul the Apostle said: “I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course…” He finished because he stayed focused. God is not looking for people who only start well. He is looking for people who will finish well. The enemy knows that if he can distract you, he can weaken you. But today, God is calling you to refocus, to return, rebuilt, and reconnect with Him. Keep your eyes on Jesus Christ. Your destiny is too important to lose focus. Luke 19:10 says,” For the son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.” Remember the devil attacks focus through temptation. Jesus was mocked, hated, falsely accused, and rejected. Yet He continued His assignment. In Gospel of Luke 22, Jesus said: “Not my will, but thine, be done.” Victory is not for those who quit but for those who endure. To remain focused like Jesus, avoid distractions, guard your spiritual life, stay prayerful, remain in God’s Word, refuse compromise, and remember your calling. Your focus must not be on people, on social media, on critics, on failures, or even on material things. Always remember that you are wired in a unique way by the creator of everything. So, you are no more yourself in ideas and in behaviors but totally absorbed into the ideas and ways of your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There is nobody and there will be nobody quite like you.
