*What Does It Mean to Honor Father and Mother?* Part Two Subtopic: *The Revelation of Father and Mother* 📖 “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” — Exodus 20:12 In the first section, we saw that this commandment was given specifically to the children of Israel (Exodus 19:1–3). It was not handed to the Gentiles. By natural birth, Gentiles were not under the Ten Commandments. The entire Old Testament is a prophetic witness pointing to the Messiah. The command to honor father and mother is part of the Law given through Moses to Israel (Exodus 19:1–3; John 1:17). When the Messiah came, He declared: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” (Matthew 5:17). Moses himself wrote about Christ (John 1:45–47). Thus, the commandment “Honor your father and your mother” ultimately points to Christ. --- True Israel Revealed Paul explains that true Israel is not outward but inward: “A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly… No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit.” (Romans 2:28–29). Circumcision here means righteousness. And Christ Himself is the true Israel. 📖 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.” (John 15:1) Israel was once called God’s vine (Psalm 80:8; Isaiah 5:1–2,7; Jeremiah 2:21). But Jesus declares Himself to be the true vine — the true Israel. --- The Son and the Father Israel was a shadow pointing to the Messiah. In Christ, Israel is fulfilled. 📖 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Thus, God is the Father who is to be honored by His Son, Israel — Jesus Christ. Christ Himself testifies: 📖 “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.” (John 17:4) Here we see Jesus honoring His Father. Conflict and Courage. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. Lamentations 3:26. Among those who had hoped for a permanent spiritual revival as the result of the reformation under Josiah was Jeremiah, called of God to the prophetic office while still a youth.... In the youthful Jeremiah, God saw one who would be true to his trust and who would stand for the right against great opposition.... “Say not, I am a child,” the Lord bade His chosen messenger; “for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee.” ... For forty years Jeremiah was to stand before the nation as a witness for truth and righteousness. In a time of unparalleled apostasy he was to exemplify in life and character the worship of the only true God. During the terrible sieges of Jerusalem he was to be the mouthpiece of Jehovah.27Ibid., 407, 408. Naturally of a timid and shrinking disposition, Jeremiah longed for the peace and quiet of a life of retirement, where he need not witness the continued impenitence of his beloved nation. His heart was wrung with anguish over the ruin wrought by sin.... The experiences through which Jeremiah passed in the days of his youth and also in the later years of his ministry, taught him the lesson that “the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.” He learned to pray, “O Lord, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing” (Jeremiah 10:23, 24). When called to drink of the cup of tribulation and sorrow, and when tempted in his misery to say, “My strength and my hope is perished from the Lord,” he recalled the providences of God in his behalf and triumphantly exclaimed, “It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.... Her action teaches us that genuine love for Christ is never wasted. What may appear insignificant to people can be precious in the sight of God. She did not perform the act to become famous. She simply loved Jesus and gave Him what was valuable to her. Yet her devotion became part of the Gospel story. Today, we are reminded that our lives should leave behind a legacy of faith, love, service, generosity, compassion, and devotion to Christ. 🔊*Prophetic Declaration:* Today, I declare that my life shall bring glory to God and become a blessing to generations after me. This gift is an identifying mark of the remnant church and we believe it was manifested in the ministry of Ellen G. White. Her writings speak with prophetic authority and provide comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction to the church. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.33-“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.” Devotional message Yesterday, we saw the importance of embracing the uniqueness God has placed in each of us. Today, we discover that when we embrace our uniqueness and honour the contribution of others, we create room for divine order in the house of God. The Apostle Paul gives us a beautiful picture of how the body of Christ should function. One may lead in praise and worship, while others support with sincerity and purity of heart. Another may teach while others listen, learn, and take notes. Another may bring a prophetic revelation, while others listen carefully and examine it according to the Word of God. Others may serve through playing instruments, administration, hospitality, prayer, or other gifts. None of these functions should compete with another because every gift has a place in God's purpose. Competition creates confusion because people begin trying to occupy positions God never assigned to them. However, when we recognize that our different gifts complement one another, we begin to experience the beauty of God's design. The worshipper should not compete with the preacher. The preacher should not compete with the instrumentalist. The prophet should not compete with the teacher. The person serving behind the scenes should not feel inferior to the person standing before the congregation. Every genuine contribution matters when it is offered to God. Paul says, “But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.” This means our gifts are not primarily given for personal recognition; they are given for the edification of the body of Christ. When we honour one another's uniqueness, peace replaces competition, order replaces confusion, and cooperation replaces division. This creates an atmosphere where the Holy Spirit can work freely and the Church can fulfil her assignment effectively. God is not the author of confusion but of peace. Therefore, wherever there is constant competition, jealousy, disorder, and the desire to outshine others, we must examine our hearts and return to God's pattern. Child of God, you do not have to become another person to become valuable. Be faithful with what God has entrusted to you. Honour the grace upon others while developing the grace upon your own life. The body of Christ becomes stronger when every member functions according to the grace God has given them. Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You for the unique grace, gifts, talents, and abilities You have placed within each of us.Teach us to honour the gifts of others and faithfully steward what You have entrusted to us. Let Your order, peace, unity, and holiness prevail in Your Church, and may everything we do strengthen the body of Christ and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus' name, Amen. THE PILGRIMS GUIDE TUESDAY AUGUST 18, 2026 RESTING IN GOD'S FAITHFUL CARE A WORD FROM THE WORD: “The Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I need.” Psalm 23:1 GNB. One of the fulfilling understandings that one would derive from David’s declaration in our foundational Scripture is that beyond the poetic, it is more of prophetic. When the LORD is your Shepherd, lack becomes an impossibility. Here are some qualities of true shepherd, he guides, protects, provides, and ensures the wellbeing of the sheep. The LORD Jesus is not a distant supervisor; He is the ever-present Shepherd who walks with you daily. Your life becomes what He envisions for you when you come to the point of realising and recognising that you are not at the mercy of situations and circumstances. You are under divine Shepherdhood. The vision of tomorrow may not be clear to you, but your Shepherd has already gone ahead of you. He knows the path, He knows the dangers, and He knows the green pastures prepared for you. All you have to do is to follow Him duly. See, the LORD Jesus is not just a shepherd, He is your Shepherd. Personalised. Faithful and Intentional. The implications of this means that you will not lack direction, protection, supply, peace, or victory. Everything you need to fulfil your God-given destiny is already in His hands. Rest assured, and rest in His guidance. Trust His leading, trust His process, follow His voice, He has no record of failure, and cannot fail. PRAYER BULLETS: LORD Jesus, thank You for being my Shepherd. Lead me, guide me, and provide for me today. I trust Your voice above every fear. Those who are less than a conqueror. For they cannot or simply refuse to fight. 2. Those who are conquerors because they decided to fight, they fought and won. 3. Then the more than the conquerors group are those of us who didn't have to fight because Jesus has taken over our battles. He fought and won on our behalf. ☆☆☆ No wonder the bible says👇 "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." - 1 Peter 5:7 KJV. ☆☆☆ This verse can also be put this way "casting all your battles upon him for his is fighting for you." ☆☆☆ When the Lord is fighting for you, he will make a total destruction of all your enemies and you will simply become a spectator. Read 2 Kings 19:35, 2 Chronicles 20:20-24. For you this day I therefore decree, may you not be less than a conqueror in Jesus name. In the name of Jesus I decree, may you never be comfortable being just a conqueror until you become more than a conqueror. In the battles of life, I decree and declare, the Lord shall give you total victories in Jesus name. May you not find yourself stranded in the battles of life. When and where men have withdrawn from you, may you gain the support of the most high God in Jesus name. As you walk through life, may you not be alone.
