The Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 12:1–3; 15:1–21; 17:1–8) is not itself the means of personal salvation. God’s election of Abraham’s physical descendants as a nation and the irrevocable promises attached to that covenant (land, nationhood, and blessing) stand independently of whether individual Jews believe in Jesus the Messiah.

Yet every human being—Jew or Gentile—must be justified by faith in Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins. Scripture is clear: “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Paul states the same truth concerning Israel: “For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge… For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes” (Romans 10:2–4). Both Jew and Gentile are under sin and are justified freely by God’s grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:9–24; Galatians 3:26–29).

Because the Abrahamic promises are rooted in God’s unilateral, unconditional covenant and because “the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:29), the national promises God made to Israel remain valid even while individual Israelites, like Gentiles, must come to faith in the Messiah for eternal life.

This preserves both the continuity of God’s covenant faithfulness to ethnic Israel and the universal necessity of the gospel.

The Greek of John 3:16 is not a single word corresponding to “whosoever.” It is πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων—“everyone who is believing.” The restriction is unchanged: only those who believe have eternal life in Him.

The present participle therefore points to ongoing belief as what results in eternal life. That is still not works. Faith does not become labor merely because it lasts.

Eternal life is given and kept by Jesus Himself. No one can snatch His true sheep from His hand. Real faith endures to the end; final rejection of Christ reveals a heart that never truly belonged to Him. Trust Him, remain in Him, and rest in His keeping power.
