Getting Started: Have you experienced the goodness of God? How do we know that God is good?

Bible Exploration:

1. Psalm 144:1- Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: The war we are talking about here is the spiritual one we have with evil and the devil. Talk about the goodness of God as He teaches us and prepares us for spiritual war and hatred toward evil. Talk about how to use these three weapons of war; Prayer, God's Word, and our testimony.

2. Psalm 144:2 My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.- Talk about the goodness of God as He is our strength, and gives us strength. Talk about how we cannot fight in our own strength, but only in the strength of the Lord.

3. Talk about how God is our loving kindness and our fortress. Did Jesus say that only God is good? What does that mean? Talk about how God is our high tower and our deliverer. Talk about how God is our shield and the One in whom we take refuge. Do we also take refuge in God's Word? In other believers? In our Church family? And do those things help us and prepare us for serving God and the battles we face?

4. Isaiah 41:10 10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. - Why should we not be afraid? Why should we not be dismayed, confused, or discouraged? Who is your strength? Who will strengthen you? How will
God help you? Who holds you up? How does God hold you up?

5. In His goodness God is our teacher. Gideon listened to the Lord and the Lord taught him and led them to victory over their enemies. David was able to kill the giant named Goliath by listening to the Lord and doing what God told him to do. When we seek the Lord, He will teach us and show us what to do.

6. Psalm 144:3,4- 3 Lord, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him! 4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away. The goodness of God means you are very important to God. -What are some examples of God's goodness to you? Gideon was from the smallest tribe of Israel. David was the last and littlest brother of the sons of Jesse. What was it about Gideon and David that made them special to God?

7. Psalm 144:9-10 9 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee. 10 It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword.-The goodness of God makes us want to worship Him. What are some of the reasons why we would want to worship God? What are some of the great things that happen when we worship God?

8. Psalm 144:12-15 12 That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace: 13 That our garners may be full, affording all manner of store: that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets:14 That our oxen may be strong to labour; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.15 Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the Lord. As we seek the Lord what will happen to our children? As we seek the Lord will God supply our needs, and bless our work? As we seek the Lord will He be there when we need Him? As we seek the Lord will God bring peace to our homes and cities? As we seek the Lord will God bring joy and happiness to our lives and to our people?

Jesus - The Way, The Truth, and The Life!
Getting Started: Is Jesus the way, the truth, and the life? What does that mean to you?
Bible Exploration:
1. John 14:6. Why do you think Jesus said this? Is Jesus the only way to God, to forgiveness, to eternal life? Why do you believe these words of Jesus? Acts 4:12. What is this verse saying to us? Hebrews 10:19,20. What does this verse say about Jesus being the Way?

2. 1 Peter 2:9. Who does God say you are as a believer in Jesus? What are we supposed to be doing? What has God called us out of and into? Romans 6:6. As a believer in Jesus, what is the condition of your old sinful self? What has lost its power over you? What are you no longer a slave to? Hebrews 10:22. What has our heart/conscience been sprinkled with? What have we been washed with? Romans 8:1. What is this verse saying to us?

3. Talk about these examples of Jesus being The Truth; His truth is absolute. His truth is definite. His truth is unconditional. His truth never changes. His truth covers everything. His truth is universal. His truth is supreme. His truth is not hidden.

4. Talk about Jesus being The Life; True and lasting spiritual life is only available through Jesus Christ. The perfect life of Jesus provided the only permanent and enduring sacrifice for our sin, which give us life now and eternally. Through Jesus we are joined with the life of God. If you don't have Jesus, are you really living?

Take up your cross and follow Jesus

Getting Started: What does the title of this Bible Study mean to you? Has Jesus called every Christian to take up their cross and follow Him?

Bible Exploration:
1. Mark 8:34-37. Jesus used the image of carrying the cross to set the example of what ultimate submission He would require of His followers. Jesus is not against pleasure, and He wasn't saying we should seek needless pain. He was talking about the heroic effort needed to follow Him every moment and do His work, even when it's difficult, and even when there were no tangible rewards. Jesus didn't teach self-denial
so we would be miserable, but for His Name and Kingdom. Taking up your cross will require sacrifice and possible pain, but it will lead to a life of service to God and to others, and rewards that are out of this world. Taking up your cross is an act of sacrifice, surrender, and submission to whatever God asks of you.

2. The taking up of our cross, and the laying down of our lives, is for Jesus and His Gospel. We should not just be willing to lay down our lives - we should be constantly laying down our lives for Jesus and His Gospel. Nothing can compare to what we gain when we follow Jesus.

3. Romans 6:12,13. How does God help us to not let sin reign in our lives, and be an instrument of righteousness? 1st Peter 4:1,2. How do we arm ourselves with the same mind as Jesus? How does suffering in the flesh help us to stop sinning? How do we stop living in the flesh controlled by lusts, but for the will of God?

4. 2nd Corinthians 10:4,5. How are we supposed to handle spiritual warfare? How do we pull down strongholds, cast down arguments, and bring every thought into obedience to Christ?

5. John 15:18. How does God help us handle the hate and ridicule of the world that is against God? John 16:2. How does God help us handle the fear of people and what they might do? John 7:7. Why does the world hate Jesus and you?

6. Matthew 5:11,12. What are some important things to remember about the persecution of Christians? Galatians 1:8. What is the message of this verse? 2 Timothy 3:1. What will happen in the last days? 2nd Timothy 3:12. How do we know we will be persecuted? 2 Timothy 3:13. What will be happening in the last days? 2nTimothy 3:16,17. What tools has God given us to prepare us for our ministry, for taking up our cross, and for following Jesus?

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. 9 God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you 10 in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you.11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,[a] that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.14 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.

1. The New life that changes everything.
Romans 1:8-First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.

-Side verse Matthew 5:16 - In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

2. What and who we pray for matters.
Romans 1:9,10 - God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you 10 in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you.

3. Spiritual fruit- the goal of the Christian life and relationships.
Romans 1:11-13-11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,[a] that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.

-Do whatever God has planned for you
-God always has a great/better plan for you.

Romans 15:29- I know that when I come to you, I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ.

4. Our spiritual obligation to the people around us.
Romans 1:14,15- 14 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.

Bible Exploration:

1. Isaiah 43:7. What does this verse say is the reason why we were created? Luke
19:40. What will happen if we don't give God our praise? Does all creation praise God
already? 1st Chronicles 29:11. What are the list of reasons given in this verse for us to
give God our praise? Does God want to show the world how much He loves them
through you?

2. Ephesians 2:10. The Greek word for workmanship is "Poema" God is writing a
poem about His love through you. What are some of the good works that God has
created us to do? What does it mean that God prepared those good works beforehand?
What does it mean to walk in good works?

3. John 14:27. What kind of peace does Jesus give to us? Should God's peace be seen
and felt in our lives? Colossians 3:15. What does it mean to let the peace of God rule in
our hearts? Philippians 4:7. How does the peace of God guard our hearts? How does
the peace of God work as a guide in our lives?

4. Matthew 25:21. What are some ways we can enter into the joy of The Lord? John
15:11. What kind of joy does The Lord want us to have? How long does He want it to
last? How much joy does The Lord want us to have?

5. John 15:16. What is this verse saying to us? What does God want us to do? How
long does He want the fruit of our lives to last? Philippians 1:6. What is God's ultimate
goal for your life? Will what God is doing in your life last long after you are gone? Does
God want the fruit of our life to multiply? Like an annual or a perennial?

6. John 10:10. What is the life that Jesus came to give us? How did Jesus describe the
kind of a life He gave to us? John 14:21. What does Jesus ask of us? What is a reward
we receive for loving Jesus? What will Jesus do for us if we love Him? Does our
motivation for obeying His commands come from our love for Him? Why is that so
important?

1. satan's against me.
-Doubt – satan will make you question God’s
Word and His goodness – and everything else
About God.
-Discouragement – satan will make you look at
Your problems rather than at God.
-Diversion – satan makes wrong things look
Attractive so you will want them more than
Right things.
-Defeat – satan makes you feel like a failure so
You won’t even try.

2. The believer's preparation for being salt and light.
Mark 9:43 – 48 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. Church Services Notes: Our God Who is our Savior

1. The Old Testament Names teach
us Who God is.

2. The monumental shift.
Exodus 33:20~ But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”
1 Timothy 6:16~ who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.

3. The Cross of Jesus changed everything.
Acts 17:27~ God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.
Colossians 1:15 ~The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

Hebrews 1:3~ The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

John 14:9 ~ Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

Psalm 34:18~The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
And saves those who are crushed in spirit.

John 8:11~“No one, sir,” she said.

4. Jesus is our righteousness.
Jeremiah 23:5,6~ “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will raise up for David[a] a righteous Branch,
A King who will reign wisely
And do what is just and right in the land.
In his days Judah will be saved
And Israel will live in safety.
This is the name by which he will be called:
The Lord Our Righteous Savior.

A Strong Life - A Life that endures
Getting Started: How would you describe a life that is strong and enduring? Does
it involve letting go of things that make us weak? Why is that needed?
Bible Exploration:
1. Matthew 7:24-28. Jesus is talking about a house here. What else is He talking
about? Why is the foundation of a house and a life so important to get right?
2. Isaiah 40:8 and Psalm 138:2. Why is having the Word of God the foundation of our
life so important? Why is it so important that the Word of God never changes? Why do
you think God has exalted His Word above His Name?
3. Psalm 90:2 What is this verse saying to us? How does it make you feel to know that
the Awesome God of the universe wants to have a personal relationship with you?
4. John 3:16. What does it mean that; whoever believes in Him shall not perish? What
does it mean that; whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life? Why should you not
build your house or your life on a foundation you could build? How does our human
wisdom compare with God's wisdom?
5. What are some of the benefits of being born again? Have you let Jesus give you a
new foundation for your life? Did Jesus pay the penalty for your sins and give you a
new life? Did Jesus make you spiritually alive from the dead?
6. Acts 26:14. Do you know what it means to kick against the goad? Does God want us
to just have a knowledge of Him, or an always growing deeper relationship with Him?
Does God want us to serve Him, or does He want us to know Him? Do you sometimes
get too busy serving God that you are not spending time with God?
7. 1st Corinthians 3:11. What is this verse saying to us? Are you building your life on
Jesus the Rock? Does what you think or believe agree with the Word of God? How
does believing things that don't line up with the Word of God make us weak and
vulnerable?
Life Application: What stops you from building your life on Jesus and God's
Word? What do you need God to help you change in your life? Do you want God's help
to stand against evil?
