I was born in Massachusetts, and in 97 moved to Portland Oregon,I was raised in a Christian /Catholic/ Jewish family. At the age of 12-16 I was doing street ministry with friends of family, in 2002-2009 I was faithfully attending Grace Christian fellowship, then when I went to Job corps, I slowly stopped attending because I was in school and I didn't always come back home on the weekends, In June 2011, I started to attend Portland Metro church because of my wife

Take up your cross and follow Jesus

Getting Started: What does the title of this Bible Study mean to you? Has Jesus called every Christian to take up their cross and follow Him?

    Bible Exploration:
    1. Mark 8:34-37. Jesus used the image of carrying the cross to set the example of what ultimate submission He would require of His followers. Jesus is not against pleasure, and He wasn't saying we should seek needless pain. He was talking about the heroic effort needed to follow Him every moment and do His work, even when it's difficult, and even when there were no tangible rewards. Jesus didn't teach self-denial
so we would be miserable, but for His Name and Kingdom. Taking up your cross will require sacrifice and possible pain, but it will lead to a life of service to God and to others, and rewards that are out of this world. Taking up your cross is an act of sacrifice, surrender, and submission to whatever God asks of you.

    2. The taking up of our cross, and the laying down of our lives, is for Jesus and His Gospel. We should not just be willing to lay down our lives - we should be constantly laying down our lives for Jesus and His Gospel. Nothing can compare to what we gain when we follow Jesus.

    3. Romans 6:12,13. How does God help us to not let sin reign in our lives, and be an instrument of righteousness? 1st Peter 4:1,2. How do we arm ourselves with the same mind as Jesus? How does suffering in the flesh help us to stop sinning? How do we stop living in the flesh controlled by lusts, but for the will of God?

    4. 2nd Corinthians 10:4,5. How are we supposed to handle spiritual warfare? How do we pull down strongholds, cast down arguments, and bring every thought into obedience to Christ?

    5. John 15:18. How does God help us handle the hate and ridicule of the world that is against God? John 16:2. How does God help us handle the fear of people and what they might do? John 7:7. Why does the world hate Jesus and you?

    6. Matthew 5:11,12. What are some important things to remember about the persecution of Christians? Galatians 1:8. What is the message of this verse? 2 Timothy 3:1. What will happen in the last days? 2nd Timothy 3:12. How do we know we will be persecuted? 2 Timothy 3:13. What will be happening in the last days? 2nTimothy 3:16,17. What tools has God given us to prepare us for our ministry, for taking up our cross, and for following Jesus?

Romans 1:18-23 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
    1. There is no excuse for not believing in God.
Romans 1:18-20- See about for verses; Job 12:7-9 -But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this?
Psalm 19:1- The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

    2. The kind of God that creation reveals.
Romans 8:19-22 See about for verses; Revelation 22:3- And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

    3. The downward spiral of rejecting God.

    4. The sin of idol worship.
Romans 1:21 – 23 See about for verses; Exodus 20:3-6- Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

    Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

    1. God's anger toward sin in the past.
Isaiah 9:19 Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

    2. God's anger toward sin in the present.
Ephesians 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    3. God's anger toward sin in the future
Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

    4. God has provided a way of escape from judgment.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
1 Thessalonians 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

    5. Believers must be involved in God's anger against sin.
    Hebrews 2:1,2 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

    6. God hates sin but He loves sinners more.
John 15:16,17- Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that ye love one another.

Church Services Notes: Paul cares about the Church

    By Pastor Jon H.
    (Bible verses in International Version)

    Romans 1:8-15
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. 9 God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you 10 in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you.11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,[a] that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.14 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.

    1. The New life that changes everything.
Romans 1:8-First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.

-Side verse Matthew 5:16 - In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

    2. What and who we pray for matters.
Romans 1:9,10 - God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you 10 in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you.

    3. Spiritual fruit- the goal of the Christian life and relationships.
Romans 1:11-13-11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,[a] that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.

Sunday 26 July 2026 Portland Metro Church Assembly of God Church Services Notes: Paul cares about the Church By Pastor Jon H. (Bible verses in International Version) Romans 1:8-15 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. 2. -Do whatever God has planned for you -God always has a great/better plan for you. Bible Exploration:

    1. Isaiah 43:7. What does this verse say is the reason why we were created? Luke

give God our praise? Does God want to show the world how much He loves them
    through you?

    2. Ephesians 2:10. The Greek word for workmanship is "Poema" God is writing a
poem about His love through you. What are some of the good works that God has
created us to do? What does it mean that God prepared those good works beforehand?
What does it mean to walk in good works?

    3. John 14:27. What kind of peace does Jesus give to us? Should God's peace be seen
and felt in our lives? Colossians 3:15. What does it mean to let the peace of God rule in
our hearts? Philippians 4:7. How does the peace of God guard our hearts? How does
the peace of God work as a guide in our lives?

    4. Matthew 25:21. What are some ways we can enter into the joy of The Lord? John

long does He want the fruit of our lives to last? Philippians 1:6. What is God's ultimate
goal for your life? Will what God is doing in your life last long after you are gone? Does
God want the fruit of our life to multiply? Like an annual or a perennial?

    6. John 10:10. What is the life that Jesus came to give us? How did Jesus describe the
kind of a life He gave to us? John 14:21. What does Jesus ask of us? What is a reward
we receive for loving Jesus? What will Jesus do for us if we love Him? Does our

Church Services Notes: Salt and Light By Pastor Jon H.
(Bible verse in King James Version)

Mark 9:49,50 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

    1. satan's against me.
-Doubt – satan will make you question God’s
Word and His goodness – and everything else
    About God.
-Discouragement – satan will make you look at
Your problems rather than at God.
-Diversion – satan makes wrong things look
Attractive so you will want them more than
    Right things.
-Defeat – satan makes you feel like a failure so
    You won’t even try.

    2. The believer's preparation for being salt and light.
Mark 9:43 – 48 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

    3. Jesus used salt to help us remember God's faithfulness .

    4. Jesus used salt to remind us to make a difference.

    5. Jesus used salt to remind us to counteract moral decay.

    6. The importance of peace with others.
Mark 9:50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

    7. Be a bright light t for Jesus.

  • A Strong Life - A Life that endures
Getting Started: How would you describe a life that is strong and enduring? Does
it involve letting go of things that make us weak? Why is that needed?
    Bible Exploration:
    1. Matthew 7:24-28. Jesus is talking about a house here. What else is He talking
about? Why is the foundation of a house and a life so important to get right?
    2. Isaiah 40:8 and Psalm 138:2. Why is having the Word of God the foundation of our
life so important? Why is it so important that the Word of God never changes? Why do
you think God has exalted His Word above His Name?
    3. Psalm 90:2 What is this verse saying to us? How does it make you feel to know that
the Awesome God of the universe wants to have a personal relationship with you?
    4. John 3:16. What does it mean that; whoever believes in Him shall not perish? What
does it mean that; whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life? Why should you not
build your house or your life on a foundation you could build? How does our human
    wisdom compare with God's wisdom?
    5. What are some of the benefits of being born again? Have you let Jesus give you a
new foundation for your life? Did Jesus pay the penalty for your sins and give you a
new life? Did Jesus make you spiritually alive from the dead?
    6. Acts 26:14. Do you know what it means to kick against the goad? Does God want us
to just have a knowledge of Him, or an always growing deeper relationship with Him?

A Strong Life - A Life that endures Getting Started: How would you describe a life that is strong and enduring? Does it involve letting go of things that make us weak? Why is that needed? Bible Exploration: 1. Matthew 7:24-28. Jesus is talking about a house here. What else is He talking about? Why is the foundation of a house and a life so important to get right? 2. Isaiah 40:8 and Psalm 138:2. Why is having the Word of God the foundation of our life so important? Why is it so important that the Word of God never changes? Why do you think God has exalted His Word above His Name? 3. Psalm 90:2 What is this verse saying to us? How does it make you feel to know that the Awesome God of the universe wants to have a personal relationship with you? 4. John 3:16. What does it mean that; whoever believes in Him shall not perish? What does it mean that; whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life? Why should you not build your house or your life on a foundation you could build? How does our human wisdom compare with God's wisdom? 5. What are some of the benefits of being born again? Have you let Jesus give you a new foundation for your life? Did Jesus pay the penalty for your sins and give you a new life? Did Jesus make you spiritually alive from the dead? 6. Acts 26:14. Do you know what it means to kick against the goad? Does God want us to just have a knowledge of Him, or an always growing deeper relationship with Him? Does God want us to serve Him, or does He want us to know Him? Do you sometimes get too busy serving God that you are not spending time with God? 7. 1st Corinthians 3:11. What is this verse saying to us? Are you building your life on Jesus the Rock? Church Services Notes: Stay Awake
    By Pastor Jon H.

Matthew 24:36-42 KJV But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
    1. No one knows exactly when Jesus will return.

    2. We Are warned to not be deceived.

    3. The second coming of Christ will be in two stages.

    4. As it was in the days of Noah.
Genesis 6:5 KJV And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

    5. One will be taken and the other left behind.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18KJV For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
    6. We must stay Awake.

    7. What watching and staying awake looks like.
2 Timothy 4:8 KJV Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

    By Pastor Jon H.
    Proverbs 30:5 NKJV Every word of God is 2025[a]pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

Mark 5:25-34 NKJV Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the [a]affliction. And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?” But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ” And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well.Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”
    1. Some of the problems hurt for a long time.

    2. Hearing about Jesus brings hope to our hearts.

    3. Faith takes a step based on hope.

    4. The effect of the one touch of Jesus.

    5. The confirmation of her healing and her faith.

    Matthew 21:22;Mark 11:24
Matthew 21:22 NKJV And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Mark 11:24 NKJV Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
