"But I have all, and abound. I have been filled, having received from Epaphroditus the things which you sent, an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable and well-pleasing to God." Philippians 4:18 (KJV).

Paul coming to the end of his letter to Philippians remembers and appreciates how they were the only ones to support him in the Lord's work. That shows their concern and love for Paul and God's work too.

Many may offer prayers for you and ministry but then do nothing practically to help you meet your needs. Philippians believers were different. They cared for Paul and his travels and practically shared in his needs so that he could travel and do ministry.

Paul says that he was not appealing to them for funds but reminding them of their generosity so that they may know that their offering of worship to God in the form of giving for His work, will be rewarded suitably by the Lord.

We notice that Paul or other Apostles never appealed for money or support from the churches or believers. Because God provides for His workers when He calls them to do His work. God speaks to His people to support His work and take care of His workers.

God has proved this in my own life and ministry for 40 years! There were times when some people came running to my house to share their blessings without me ever asking or telling them my needs!
It was my commitment when God called me for ministry that I would not ask from or tell my needs to others. And God helped me to keep that commitment till today! I had seen God sending His 'crows' and at times, 'widows,' to take care of me in times of need.

Paul also tells us that their giving for God's work is like a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is well-pleasing and acceptable to the Lord. This is true worship. Sadly many are limited to singing loudly and dancing for their pleasure in their so-called worship meetings but never give generously for God's work. Giving is worship and giving to the Lord's work brings glory to God as souls are won and His Kingdom is built up.

How is your participation in supporting God's work and workers?
Is giving a part of your worship or just getting entertained with emotional singing and music? First God wants your life and then all that you have belong to Him. Do you want to lay on the altar for God to use your life and all He has given you?

"Each one, as he purposes in his heart, let him give; not of grief, or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that in everything, always having all self-sufficiency, you may abound to every good work;" 2 Cor. 9:7-8.

    Today's Fresh Manna:
    Recognizing Our Frailty
    Psalm 39
    ******
How rare it is for us to stop and appreciate the brevity of our lives! We assume that things will continue the way we they are day in and day out.
The people in the recently ill-fated Air India Flight 171 thought and planned for good tme with their families, relatives or professions. It was like any other flights that leave the airport daily.
We simply assume that tomorrow will be like today and today will be like yesterday without thought about the brevity of life and that our time is truly a vapor.

David prays that he understand this truth more fully in verse 4. We need to understand that how fleeting our lives are. We need to understand the measure of our days to be short. We need to appreciate the day and not assume tomorrow is available to us.

We leave so much unsaid and undone. How often we see people who have lost loved ones wishing they had another few hours to say or do some final things. They never imagined they would not have time to offer those final important words. They assumed tomorrow would come.

We must seize each day that is given to us. Paul said as much to us in Ephesians 5:16, telling us to “redeem the time, because the days are evil” (NKJV). Other translations help us understand this phrase “redeem the time” by saying, “making the most of every opportunity” (NIV) and “making the best use of the time” (ESV).

The pursuit of the things in the world is vanity. We need to pursue the things that are most important: God and our relationships with family and believers.

    REFLECTIONS IN PRAYER ---
My hope is in the Lord. Guide me my Lord to set a guard on my mouth; but not to muzzle it to the point of withholding good that would praise you, especially before those yet dead in their sin. When I feel any flicker of inner fire for you, help me Lord to refrain from quenching your Spirit within me. Remind me Lord that my days are as short as just a hand-breadth, or like a morning vapor gone before mid-day.
A life that is filled with the most prized worldly treasures is a shadow, and even reaching the highest pinnacle of achievement among men is emptiness before You.

All vestiges of wealth and fame are undeniably left with others when our spirit departs the body, and it returns to dust. And now Lord, do I really wait for You? Yes! My hope can be placed firmly, in none other than You, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

    The Dangerous Consequences of Disobedience
    (1 Chronicles 10:1-14)
    ******
Here is a sad story of the end of one of the greatest kings of Israel, the first king Saul. We see how his eventful life ended so tragically because he disobeyed God twice in seeking the help of a medium to get the message of what to do. We learn many spiritual lessons from this story.

Saul was made the first king of Israel as people demanded from God. Soon after, God told him to completely destroy Amalekites in the war. Saul kept some best things to please the people and thus disobeyed God in not complying fully with what God had commanded him.
Samuel came and passed on the sad news that God rejected Saul and he would die along with his sons in the battle soon, and the kingdom would be given to David. (1 Samuel 15).

For God,, obedience is better than sacrifice. Let us not try to hide our rebellion and disobedience with our religious rituals and traditions. or lame excuses to please self or others.

Secondly, Saul sought for a familiar spirit- demonic fortuneteller. God hated this sin. He did not bother to pray and seek the Lord's face (1 Samuel 28).
God was angry because of these two things and killed Saul and his 2 sons in the battle (1 Chron.10:13-14).

God is very serious about obeying His Word fully and consulting Him for everything in our life. We should never approach anyone for guidance despising God's Word.

Lord Jesus said that if you love Me, you will keep My commandments (John 14:15). Obedience in the OT was out of fear of judgment and death. In the NT, we obey because we love the Lord.

The Great Commission contains the important part of disciplemaking- to teach to obey what all He has commanded (Matt 28:18-20).

If you learn to obey God, then you will teach others- your family, church and others to obey God too. Amen.

Be A KingMaker if Not A King!
    (The Book of Esther)
    ****
How often we wish we were Royals commanding honor and glory! How may girls might have wished that they had such a boyfriend like Prince William when they watched his wedding in London! After all, Kate was like any other girl but found her way into the Palace.

Though there were many beautiful virgins in the beauty contest held by King to choose a Queen. But Esther was chosen. She was, no doubt, pleasing to the King more than all, but there was God working behind the scenes to put Esther in the palace for a particular purpose and for such a time. And the other important person behind her success was her uncle Mordecai. His care for her and motivation and encouragement, perhaps, enabled her to take up such a challenge, being an orphan and foreign girl there.
Well, we may not be so fortunate like Esther, but we can all be like Mordecai, the Kingmaker!

Here are the lessons we learn from Mordecai's life, how to be a kingmaker:
Mordecai's life was filled with challenges that he turned into opportunities. Mordecai was of man of deep convictions and fearless confidence. He was a man of integrity with cautious courage and foresight.

Mordecai was willing to be God's servant wherever he was.
In Mordecai's life, God blended both character and circumstances to accomplish great things. He has not changed the way He works. God is using the situations you face each day to weave a pattern of godliness into your character. Pause and ask God to help you respond appropriately to the situations you find yourself in today.

    * The opportunities we have are more important than the ones we wish we had
    * We can trust God to weave together the events of life for our best, even though we may not be able to see the overall pattern (Romans 8:28-29).
    * The rewards for doing right are sometimes delayed, but they are guaranteed by God Himself.
