He was supposed to do signs and wonders that would make the heavens tremble. But Gehazi never saw it. He died a leper, completely stripped of his spiritual destiny. Why? Because of a fatal flaw in his spiritual timing. ​The Seduction of the Premature Harvest ​Naaman, a Syrian general, was healed of leprosy and tried to pay Elisha. Elisha firmly refused. Why? Because Elisha had the prophetic discernment to know that taking money from a Syrian in that specific hour would compromise the testimony of Jehovah. It wasn’t that money was evil; it was that the timing was illicit. ​But Gehazi’s flesh was loud. His appetite overrode his spiritual sensitivity. He chased Naaman’s chariot down, lied, and took two talents of silver and two changes of garments. He hid them in the house, thinking he had outsmarted his master. ​Then came the terrifying confrontation that should make every minister, entrepreneur, and believer tremble: ​"Then he [Elisha] said to him, 'Did not my heart go with you when the man turned back from his chariot to meet you? You are compromising the sharp edge of your apostolic calling just to secure a speaking engagement, a larger offering, or a seat at a carnal table. ​Failing the Test of Appetite: Like Esau, like Gehazi, you are looking at what the world is offering right now, and you are selling your birthright for a bowl of soup and Syrian garments! ​Elisha’s verdict was swift and devastating: "Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and your descendants forever." And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, 'See now, the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.' And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai." — Genesis 16:1-2 (NKJV) ​Look at the terrifying anatomy of this compromise: ​Blaming God for the Delay: Sarah said, "The Lord has restrained me." When you grow impatient, your flesh will twist God's sovereign timing into an accusation against His character. ​The Egyptian Solution: Hagar was an Egyptian—a product of the world system. When you get tired of waiting for heaven's intervention, you will reach back into the "Egypt" you were delivered from to manufacture a carnal solution. ​The Birth of the Auxiliary: Abram listened to the voice of compromise instead of the voice of Covenant. He slept with Hagar, and Ishmael was born. ​The Tragedy of Ishmael: Why You Must Axe the Backup Plan ​Beloved, hear me by the Spirit of God: God does not need your flesh to fulfill His prophecy! ​When you create an auxiliary plan—when you manipulate a business deal because the finances are tight, when you date an unbeliever because you are tired of waiting for a godly spouse, when you use worldly marketing tactics to build your ministry—you are giving birth to an Ishmael! ​Here is the spiritual law of the auxiliary: ​Ishmael is Always Born Faster Than Isaac: The flesh can produce overnight success, but the Spirit demands a gestation period of faith. Just because your backup plan is "working" and producing quick results does not mean God is breathing on it! ​Your Ishmael Will Mock Your Isaac: Years later, when the true promise (Isaac) was finally born, what happened? "And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian... scoffing [mocking]" (Genesis 21:9). The carnal thing you create in your impatience will eventually wage war against the divine destiny God is trying to birth in you! ​The Prophetic Command: Cast Out the Bondwoman! ​You cannot keep Hagar and Sarah in the same house.
