It ๐ข๐ฌ about trust. The gospel is all about placing trust in Jesus and his finished work at the cross. Trying to earn and/or keep God's approval through obedience to the law is placing trust in yourself.

We canโ€™t keep the law. The Jews thought they could. They watered it down to ways in which they believed they were keeping it. Jesus showed them how high the standard was. The standard is perfection. "Be holy for I am holy," God said. Moses told them, Jesus said, not to commit adulatory, but then Jesus lifted it to an even higher bar by bringing in their thought life as another way to fall short of God's holy standard regarding human conduct.

Most people remember this verse, โ€œfor all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.โ€ Romans 3:23 NKJV

It speaks the truth. You sin, I sin, we all sin. ๐๐จ๐ง๐ž of us can keep the law. We are NOT doomed though. Letโ€™s look at the surrounding verses too.

Romans 3:19-24 NKJV
Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. [20] Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. [21] ๐๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ง๐จ๐ฐ the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, [22] even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] being justified freely ๐›๐ฒ ๐‡๐ข๐ฌ ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ž through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Look to Jesus. Trust in Jesus. Trust in your redemption. Trust in his grace.
