It is much easier to tell someone you care about them, but it means so much more to actually “show” them how much you care. When you tell your friend, “You mean so much to me, I truly value your friendship,” it really doesn’t feel like “love” when you’re screaming at them the next day because they did something you didn’t like! Real love is demonstrated by your actions, not just your words. So it is with your relationship with Christ. You can tell God you love Him every day, but when you choose to break His commandments, it doesn’t “show” Him your love. Talk is cheap, but doing what you say is worth so much more! Determine to show your love by reflecting God’s character in everything you do and say! He loves to hear your praises as well as “see” you demonstrate your love for Him. Amazing Facts Daily Devotionals A Taste for Something Good. August 18th, 2026 Humans have about 10,000 taste buds on their tongues, yet insects have the most highly developed sense of taste—using their feet and antennae. Have you ever taken a bite of some food and suddenly tasted something bitter? (At one potluck, I put some peanut butter on my desert only to discover it was actually vegan cheese spread. Not pretty!) Your first response is to spit it out. Of the five senses of the tongue, bitterness is the most sensitive at picking up something that tastes disagreeable. Perhaps that was God’s intention, as many toxic plants have naturally bitter compounds. The taste threshold of bitterness is measured in relationship to quinine, which is given a reference index of 1. In 1958, scientists discovered a chemical called denatonium, the bitterest substance ever found. It has a threshold of 1,000! This aversive agent is added to poisonous matter to prevent people from accidentally swallowing something that might harm them. Researchers have also discovered a couple of substances that are extremely bitter to some people but are virtually tasteless to others. Evidently, the genes of some people make them “supertasters” when it comes to identifying certain bitter compounds. Solomon gives strong medicine to his son in Proverbs 5, urging him to shun immorality at all costs. He speaks from personal experience. It’s odd that the wisest man who ever lived made some of the most foolish choices in the area of lust. To all men he warns that what might seem sweet in the beginning ends up being bitter in the end. He illustrates the remorse and disastrous consequences of breaking the seventh commandment with a perennial plant that grows in the temperate parts of Northern Africa called artemesia. The shrub was used as an ingredient in flavoring some alcoholic drinks and in some spices, but the strong bitter juice of the plant is unfit to eat in your typical lunch salad. God wants us to be supertasters at sensing the poisonous temptations of Satan. Through Solomon’s example, the Lord calls to us to “pay attention!” We can learn from Solomon’s experiences and be saved from a taste of bitter grief. Lord, I make a promise to keep my eyes on you today and to keep my thoughts pure. I choose to turn from every polluted pathway. How often when life is busy are we asking God for his hand to move- we want the miracle, the breakthrough, the job, the recovery, the house, the healing, the wife/husband and children. Family are we coming to God only to see he's hand and miraculous works or are we pursuing the Face of God with a longing for a deeper understanding and relationship with our King. Our father wants us to have all things good, but let us not be so distracted by chasing the miracle that we forget to pursue he's face and that intimacy with him. Let us pray today that we cry like Moses did to see God's glory. May the peace of God be with you all

TUESDAY 18TH AUGUST 2026 Topic: Do Not Let One Failure Define You Bible Reference “For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.” Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV) A Short Story David had failed an important examination. He had studied, but not as much as he should have. When the result came out, the score was far below what he expected. He stared at the result for several minutes. He felt ashamed. Some of his friends had done well, and he could not stop comparing himself with them. When he got home, he threw his school bag on the floor and sat quietly. His mother noticed that something was wrong, but David did not want to talk. That night, he began thinking about himself differently. He started telling himself that perhaps he was not intelligent enough. Maybe he would always struggle. Maybe success was simply not meant for him. The failure had lasted only one examination, but David had allowed it to become a description of his entire life. The following morning, his youth leader called him. David explained what had happened. After listening to him, the youth leader said, “You failed an examination. You are not a failure.” Those words stayed with David. He went back to his books. This time, he changed his study habits. He asked questions when he did not understand something and stopped pretending that he understood what he did not. Months later, he sat for another examination. His result was much better. David learned something important. Falling was not the end of his story. Refusing to rise would have been. Today's Message Failure can make you question yourself. One mistake can make you believe that you are incapable of succeeding. But your failure is an event, not your identity. The Bible says that a righteous person may fall and still rise again. Notice that the scripture does not say the righteous never fall. It says they rise. God is not looking for people who have never made mistakes. He is looking for people who are willing to learn, repent when necessary, grow, and continue walking with Him. You may have failed in school, business, ministry, a relationship, or an important decision. You may have disappointed yourself. But do not allow one bad season to convince you that your entire future is ruined. Learn from what happened. Correct what needs to be corrected. Ask God for wisdom, and get up again. Your story is not over because you fell. What To Do Today 1. Identify what your failure taught you instead of only thinking about what you lost. 2. Correct one mistake that contributed to the failure. 3. Stop calling yourself what God has not called you. 4. Take another step instead of remaining discouraged. Prayer Lord, give me the strength to rise whenever I fall. Help me to learn from my mistakes without allowing them to destroy my confidence. Give me wisdom to do better and grace to keep moving forward. In Jesus' name, Amen. Daily Challenge Think about one failure that has been discouraging you. A WORD TO PASTORS AND MINISTERS Beloved Pastors and Ministers, I want to plead with us as men and women of God: let us be careful about the way we approach other pastors, churches, and ministries for connection or support. If you desire to connect with someone, simply reach out and connect. Introduce yourself, share about your ministry, build a genuine relationship, and allow God to establish the connection. We should not reduce ourselves, our ministries, or the work God has entrusted to us to repeated begging and emotional appeals for financial assistance. There is nothing wrong with sharing a need. There is nothing wrong with asking for support when there is a genuine project or a legitimate ministry need. However, there is a difference between presenting a need with dignity and continually begging people for assistance. The Church is bigger than money. Ministry relationships should not begin and end with financial requests. Let us learn to build genuine friendships, fellowship, mentorship, partnership, prayer relationships, and ministry connections. When God connects people, He can create opportunities that money alone cannot create. If you need help, you can communicate your need respectfully. If someone is willing to support, appreciate them. If they are not able to support, do not become offended or continue pressuring them. Let us protect the dignity of the ministry. Pastors should be able to connect with other pastors simply because they want fellowship, encouragement, spiritual growth, and kingdom partnership—not only because they need money. Let us trust God as our ultimate provider. Psalm 23:1: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” May God give us wisdom, humility, integrity, and the right spirit as we build relationships within the Body of Christ. Connect because you value the person. Build because you value the relationship. Partner because you value the Kingdom. And trust God to provide for the needs of His work. And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. 1 Kings 17:7 At a critical times, God sent Elijah to the brook to be sustained while ravens brought bread to him. However, after a while the brook dried up, so God gave him another instruction. The brook dried up but God never dried. Simply put, our trust must be on God not on the blessings of God. Once our trust is resting solely on God then no matter what happens to the blessing, the job, money, business and relationship will not bring us down because God will always make a way for us. THE LIFE OF A CHRISTIAN IN A CHALLENGING WORLD By Pastor Jonathan O. Ubah Introduction We are living in a world that is changing rapidly. Values are shifting, truth is being questioned, morality is being redefined, and many people are under pressure to compromise their convictions just to fit into society. Yet, the Christian is called to live differently. Jesus never promised His followers a life without challenges. In fact, He said, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33, NKJV). The Christian life is not a promise of the absence of trouble; it is a promise of God's presence in the midst of trouble. We may walk through difficult seasons, but we do not walk through them alone. A challenging world requires Christians who know their God, understand their identity, stand firmly on God's Word, and refuse to allow the darkness around them to extinguish the light within them. 1. THE CHRISTIAN MUST KNOW WHO HE IS One of the greatest dangers in a challenging world is losing your identity. The world constantly tells us who we should become, what we should value, what success should look like, and what standards we should follow. But the believer must derive his identity from God, not from society. 1 Peter 2:9 says: «“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people.”» You are not merely a product of your environment. You are God's possession. When you know who you are in Christ, you will not need the approval of everyone around you to feel valuable. Your identity is not determined by your failures, your past, your social status, your possessions, or people's opinions about you. You belong to Christ. 2. THE CHRISTIAN MUST STAND ON GOD'S WORD A changing world needs an unchanging standard. Psalm 119:105 declares, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God's Word gives us direction when culture becomes confusing. It gives us conviction when compromise becomes attractive. It gives us hope when circumstances become discouraging. The Christian who neglects Scripture will eventually become vulnerable to the philosophies of the world. We must therefore become students of the Word. Do not build your life solely on what people say. Build it on what God has said. People can change. Circumstances can change. Governments can change. Economies can change. Relationships can change. But the Word of our God stands forever. 3. THE CHRISTIAN MUST REFUSE TO CONFORM Romans 12:2 says: «“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”» There is a difference between living in the world and becoming like the world. Jesus prayed for His disciples in John 17:15-16. He did not ask the Father to remove them from the world but to preserve them while they remained in it. This means Christianity is not an escape from society. It is a divine assignment within society. We are called to influence the world without allowing the world to influence our convictions. You can work in a corrupt environment without becoming corrupt. You can live among people who compromise without compromising. You can be surrounded by darkness and still carry light. 4. THE CHRISTIAN MUST DEVELOP SPIRITUAL STRENGTH A challenging world requires spiritual strength. Ephesians 6:10 says, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” Our strength does not come merely from personality, education, wealth, connections, or experience. There are battles that human strength cannot win. Therefore, we must strengthen our relationship with God through prayer, worship, fasting, the study of Scripture, fellowship, and obedience. A weak spiritual life makes a believer vulnerable to temptation, fear, discouragement, bitterness, and compromise. Prayer is not simply an emergency telephone call to God. Prayer is fellowship with our Father. We must learn to seek God not only when we need something from Him but because we desire Him. 5. THE CHRISTIAN MUST LEARN TO FACE TRIALS WITH FAITH Challenges are part of the journey. James 1:2-4 teaches believers to count it joy when they face various trials because testing produces patience and spiritual maturity. This does not mean that pain is pleasant. It means that God can use difficult seasons to produce something valuable in us. Sometimes God changes the situation. Sometimes He gives us grace to endure it. Sometimes He uses the situation to change us. Whatever the case may be, we must refuse to allow adversity to destroy our faith. Your trial is not the end of your story. The fact that you are going through something does not mean that God has abandoned you. David passed through valleys and still testified of God's presence. Daniel faced the lions and discovered that God was with him. The three Hebrew young men entered the fiery furnace, but they were not alone. God remains faithful in the fire. 6. THE CHRISTIAN MUST GUARD HIS HEART Proverbs 4:23 says: «“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”» The world constantly feeds our hearts with fear, hatred, lust, greed, envy, anger, and materialism. If we are not careful, what surrounds us will eventually influence what is within us. That is why believers must guard what they watch, what they listen to, what they celebrate, what they meditate upon, and the relationships they cultivate. Not everything that is popular is profitable. Not everything that is trending is godly. Not every opportunity is an assignment from God. A Christian must learn to say NO when necessary. 7. THE CHRISTIAN MUST BE LIGHT IN A DARK WORLD Jesus said in Matthew 5:14: “You are the light of the world.” Notice that Jesus did not say, “You will become light someday.” He said, “You are the light.” Light has no argument with darkness. It simply shines. The world does not necessarily need Christians who shout the loudest; it needs Christians whose lives demonstrate the reality of Christ. Your workplace should experience your integrity. Your family should experience your love. Your community should experience your kindness. Your generation should see Christ through your character. We preach with our mouths, but we also preach through our lives. 8. THE CHRISTIAN MUST LOVE PEOPLE IN A HURTING WORLD A challenging world is also a hurting world. People are carrying wounds that we cannot see. Some are fighting silent battles. Some have lost hope. Some have been disappointed by life, relationships, institutions, and even religion. The Christian must therefore become an instrument of God's love. Jesus said in John 13:35: “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Our Christianity must not become merely a collection of religious activities. We must love. We must forgive. We must encourage. We must help. We must show compassion. Sometimes the greatest sermon you will preach is the kindness you show to someone who is hurting. 9. THE CHRISTIAN MUST KEEP HIS EYES ON ETERNITY One of the reasons believers compromise is that they become too attached to temporary things. Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 4:18 to focus not merely on the things that are seen, but on the things that are eternal. This world is not our final destination. Our possessions are temporary. Our positions are temporary. Our earthly achievements are temporary. But eternity is forever. Therefore, we must live with eternity in view. Do not gain the whole world and lose your soul. Do not sacrifice your relationship with God for temporary pleasure. Do not exchange eternal treasures for temporary applause. 10. THE CHRISTIAN MUST NEVER GIVE UP Perhaps the greatest testimony in a challenging world is simply refusing to quit. Galatians 6:9 says: «“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”» There may be moments when you feel tired. There may be moments when your prayers seem unanswered. There may be moments when you wonder whether your faith is worth the struggle. But keep going. Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep serving. Keep loving. Keep trusting God. Your present struggle does not cancel God's purpose for your life. CONCLUSION The life of a Christian in a challenging world is not always easy, but it is possible by the grace of God. We are called to live differently—not because we are better than others, but because Christ has called us to represent Him. We are called to stand when others fall. To shine when others walk in darkness. To speak truth when falsehood becomes popular. To demonstrate love when hatred increases. To maintain faith when circumstances become difficult. And to remain faithful until the end. Remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Beloved, the world may be challenging, but God is still faithful. The culture may be changing, but God's Word has not changed. The pressure may be increasing, but God's grace is sufficient. The darkness may be growing, but your light can still shine. Therefore, stand firm. Stay prayerful. Stay in the Word. Stay holy. Stay humble. Stay faithful. And above all, keep your eyes on Jesus. PRAYER Father, in the name of Jesus, give me the grace to live faithfully in this challenging world. Strengthen my heart when I am weak, guide me when I am confused, preserve me when I am tempted, and help me to remain a light wherever You have planted me. Let my life bring glory to Your name. You discuss work. But when did you last simply laugh together? When did you last sit and talk about nothing important? Friendship is not an optional extra in marriage. A WORD FOR YOU. (Insights For Life) Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; Deuteronomy 7:9 KJV GOD IS A FAITHFUL GOD! There are many times we loose faith or trust. Our hopes fades and our minds become weak as a result of pressures, failures and frustrations we experience in life. Our mood and emotions change, our words change - we no longer speak God's Word. Even our commitment to serving God change because nothing seems to align. I'm pretty sure you have once experienced this scenario in your life? But have you noticed that in ALL OF THESE CHANGES, THERE IS ONE CONSTANT, CONSISTENT TRUTH, OUR GOD REMAINS FAITHFUL. If God was a man, I'm sure He would constantly react and consequently change as we change our moods, emotions, faith, words and commitments. But he is not - He never reacts, He never changes to good or bad. He remains the same - EVER FAITHFUL. Our scripture reference today says: KNOW IT, that our God, HE IS GOD, THE FAITHFUL GOD. You must know and accept this very truth. No matter the situation you find yourself, this truth must be settled within you that God is always FAITHFUL. God is not looking for acknowledgement or endorsement to prove he is faithful. He is ever-faithful with or without it. YOUR ACKNOWLEDGMENT ONLY HELPS YOUR DISCOURAGEMENT AND ENHANCES YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. Today, I encourage you to know it, believe it, declare it and live by this truth: that no matter what happens to me or around me; GOD IS EVER FAITHFUL. In the midst of all the troubles and challenges, failures and frustrations, GOD REMAINS FAITHFUL. He is faithful before, during and after your experiences and expectations. This is how to live right in the kingdom. By this, you create an unbreakable relationship between you and the ever faithful God. God bless this week for you.
