Good evening, brethren.
1. Evening devotion for today.
ED.i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST*
(COCIN DEVOTIONAL)
*DATE:*
MONDAY 27TH JULY, 2026.
*SUB-THEME:*
THE CONSEQUENCES OF REJECTING GOD'S GRACE.
*TOPIC:*
CIVIL UNREST.
*TEXT:*
2 SAMUEL 20:1-10.
1. Now a troublemaker named Sheba son of Bikri, a Benjamite, happened to be there. He sounded the trumpet and shouted, “We have no share in David, no part in Jesse’s son! Every man to his tent, Israel!”
2. So all the men of Israel deserted David to follow Sheba son of Bikri. But the men of Judah stayed by their king all the way from the Jordan to Jerusalem.
3. When David returned to his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to take care of the palace and put them in a house under guard. He provided for them but had no sexual relations with them. They were kept in confinement till the day of their death, living as widows.
4. Then the king said to Amasa, “Summon the men of Judah to come to me within three days, and be here yourself.”
5. But when Amasa went to summon Judah, he took longer than the time the king had set for him.
6. David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba son of Bikri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your master’s men and pursue him, or he will find fortified cities and escape from us.”
7. So Joab’s men and the Kerethites and Pelethites and all the mighty warriors went out under the command of Abishai. They marched out from Jerusalem to pursue Sheba son of Bikri.
8. While they were at the great rock in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Joab was wearing his military tunic, and strapped over it at his waist was a belt with a dagger in its sheath. As he stepped forward, it dropped out of its sheath.
9. Joab said to Amasa, “How are you, my brother?” Then Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.
10. Amasa was not on his guard against the dagger in Joab’s hand, and Joab plunged it into his belly, and his intestines spilled out on the ground. Without being stabbed again, Amasa died. Then Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bikri.
*TOPIC:*
CIVIL UNREST.
*THE MESSAGE:*
David escaped one trouble, only to fall into another. He survived Absalom's plot, but here comes Sheba, from Saul’s lineage, with his problem. Sheba turned the heart of the Benjamites against King David and his reign. The land fell into another chaos. Creating unnecessary rancour among people for a selfish aim is evil. Many countries and states are facing civil unrest because they have not followed God's principles in governance. Due to political ambitions and selfish interests, many are drawing others into unnecessary crises, especially when thugs are involved. By doing so, they jeopardise the community's peaceful coexistence. In which way have you aided and abetted civil unrest? Desist from this evil act. Be a peacemaker wherever you are - home, community, workplace, and the Church.
*REFLECTION:*
Be a man and woman of peace.
*PRAYER:*
Lord, help me not to join the wicked in causing unrest. Amen.
*MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:*
HEBREWS 10:29.
How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
*TODAY'S BIBLE READING PLAN:*
ISAIAH 46-48.
ED.ii. MARRIAGE, THE IMAGE OF CHRIST AND THE CHURCH
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word." - Ephesians 5:25-26
In the covenant of marriage, the husband has to be devoted to his wife in such a way that he surrenders his life for her. It is often emphasized that a woman must submit to her husband. Everything you have, you should give for your wife, in the same way Jesus Christ gave Himself for His Church.
If the man has such attitude, it is not difficult for a woman to submit herself to her husband. Jesus gave His life so that the Church, His Bride, can become holy and prepared for His coming. 'In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of His body' (Ephesians 5:28-30).
Husband and wife become one
God sees the covenant of marriage between husband and wife as one. Of course, you will keep your personal identity. This is also how it works between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church' (Ephesians 5:31-32).
Marriage is an image of Jesus Christ the Bridegroom, and the Church the Bride. That is why marriage is sacred.

2. Evening Prayer for today.
EP.i. Evening Prayer
Let my prayer be set forth before thee [as] incense; [and] the lifting up of my hands [as] the evening sacrifice. ⏤ Psalm 141:2
There is a time for heart searching in every evening, to see how the day has been spent. ⏤ Octavius Winslow
Lord, we come to You; may You hear our voice when we call upon You. Let our prayer come before You like incense, and the lifting up of our hands be like the evening sacrifice. Give us Your peace. In the quiet evening time, may Your blessing rest upon our home. Forgive the sins and failures of this day. If we didn’t live together in all ways with affection as a family, if we were impatient with each other or lacked Christlike kindness, we ask for Your forgiveness. If any of us have hurt another’s heart with a sharp word or unkind act, may You heal the wounds with Your grace. May we forgive one another, just as You forgive us, and pour out Your love in response to the things that grieve You.
Our hearts long tonight to enter more deeply into the experience of Your wonderful love. Help us to know more and more of it. Pour it into our souls, filling us with its tenderness and grace. May we immerse ourselves in the ocean of Your love, as one bathes in the sea. May its blessedness surround us like the air we breathe. Teach us more and more by Your Spirit the deep meaning and infinite riches of Your love. May we be so filled with Your love that we will love others just as You love us.
We are not afraid of the darkness because You are with us. The darkness and the light are both alike to You. You are present in the gloom of night just as truly as in the brightness of noonday. So we are not afraid in the darkness with You by our side. We will lie down on our beds in peace because You will be our keeper.
Remember our neighbors tonight. Comfort the dying and console the grieving. We ask all this in the name of our Redeemer. Amen.
