  • Faith in Action

    Faith is more than belief—it is demonstrated through our actions.

    “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” — James 2:17

    Live what you believe.

  • Don’t Deceive Yourself

    Self-deception is one of the most dangerous spiritual conditions because it blinds a person while convincing them they see clearly.

    Many people are sincere, active, and religious—yet spiritually deceived.

    Scripture repeatedly warns believers not about deceiving others, but about deceiving themselves.

    This sermon is a call to honest self-examination under the light of God’s Word.

    1. SELF-DECEPTION IS A REAL SPIRITUAL DANGER

    James 1:22 — “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

    You can:

    Hear the Word and still be deceived

    Know the truth and still live a lie

    Be in church and be far from God

    Spiritual exposure without obedience produces illusion, not transformation.

    Key truth: Hearing without doing creates false confidence.

    2. RELIGIOUS ACTIVITY IS NOT THE SAME AS OBEDIENCE

    Matthew 7:21–23
    Many will say, “Lord, Lord,” but Jesus responds, “I never knew you.”
    They prophesied, cast out devils, and worked miracles—yet lived in disobedience.

    Warning:

    Gifts do not replace character

    Ministry does not replace intimacy

    Activity does not replace obedience

    You can function publicly and still fail privately.

    3. SELF-DECEPTION OFTEN COMES THROUGH WRONG MEASURES

    2 Corinthians 10:12
    Comparing ourselves among ourselves leads to deception.

    We deceive ourselves when:

    We measure holiness by people, not Scripture

    We excuse sin because “others are doing worse”

    We justify compromise with culture

    Proverbs 14:12 — “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

    What “feels right” is not always “God-approved.”

    4. YOU CANNOT MOCK GOD THROUGH SELF-DECEPTION

    Galatians 6:7–8 — “Be not deceived; God is not mocked…”

    Self-deception does not deceive God.

    God sees motives

    God weighs hearts

    God judges truthfully

    What you sow in secret, you will reap openly.

    5. THE WORD OF GOD IS THE CURE FOR SELF-DECEPTION

    Hebrews 4:12

    The Word:

    Discerns motives

    Exposes hypocrisy

    Separates truth from assumption

    Psalm 139:23–24
    “Search me, O God… and see if there be any wicked way in me.”

    Deliverance begins when you allow God to search you.

    6. SIGNS YOU MAY BE DECEIVING YOURSELF

    You defend sin instead of repenting

    You resist correction

    You quote Scripture but ignore conviction

    You blame others for personal disobedience

    You are comfortable with spiritual stagnation

    1 Corinthians 3:18 — “Let no man deceive himself.”

    CONCLUSION

    Self-deception is subtle, progressive, and dangerous—but it is curable.

    God does not expose us to shame us, but to save us. The goal is not condemnation, but true repentance, alignment, and transformation.

    2 Corinthians 13:5 — “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith…”

    CALL TO RESPONSE
    Pray sincerely:

    “Lord, remove every false assurance. Align my life with Your truth. Deliver me from self-deception, and make me a doer of Your Word.”

    Faith in Action

    James 1:22 (NKJV)

    (But be doers of the word, and not hearers only...)

    Hearing God’s Word brings revelation, but doing it brings transformation. James warns believers not
    to stop at knowledge—faith becomes alive only when it’s applied. Obedience is the bridge between
    belief and blessing.

    It’s easy to admire truth without acting on it, but God calls us to movement, not just meditation. When
    we practice what we’ve heard, our lives become living testimonies of His power at work within us.

    Gratitude fuels obedience by keeping our hearts eager to respond with joy rather than reluctance.
    Transformation is not in the knowing—it’s in the doing.

    Reflection Questions:

    1. What truth from God’s Word do I need to apply today?

    2. How can I become more consistent in living out my faith?

    3. How does gratitude make obedience easier and more joyful?

    Prayer:

    Lord, help me not only to hear Your Word but to live it out daily. Let my actions reflect my faith and my
    gratitude for Your truth. Strengthen me to walk in obedience with joy. Amen.

    Practical Application:

    ● Act on one Scripture truth you’ve recently studied.

    ● Thank God for the opportunity to live out His Word today.

    ● Encourage someone to apply God’s Word in a practical way this week.

    Takeaway Thought:

    Faith isn’t proven by what we hear—it’s revealed by what we do.

  • Aligning Your Life With God’s Word

    Psalm 119:105, Joshua 1:8, James 1:22–25, Psalm 1:1–3

    Every life moves in the direction of its alignment.

    Cars move straight when their wheels are aligned; buildings stand strong when their foundations are aligned.

    In the same way, your spiritual life only grows when it is aligned with the Word of God.

    Misalignment brings confusion, stagnation, and destruction, but alignment with God’s Word brings clarity, strength, and divine direction.

    1. GOD’S WORD IS THE STANDARD FOR LIVING

    Psalm 119:105 — “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

    You cannot walk straight in darkness. The world is filled with confusion, deception, and false ideas.

    The Word of God is the only standard that gives light in a dark world.

    The Word shows what is right and wrong

    The Word guides decisions

    The Word exposes lies and reveals truth

    If the Word of God is not your standard, the world will become your standard.

    2. ALIGNMENT REQUIRES CONSISTENT MEDITATION

    Joshua 1:8 — “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth… meditate on it day and night.”

    Meditation is what straightens the heart. You cannot reflect God’s Word if you do not feed on it daily.

    To align your life with Scripture:

    * Read the Word daily

    * Meditate on it long enough to understand it

    * Speak it with faith

    * Apply it deliberately

    A life without meditation will always drift.

    3. ALIGNMENT REQUIRES OBEDIENCE

    James 1:22 — “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only.”

    Hearing alone does not align your life—doing aligns your life.

    Many people know the Bible but do not live it. Knowledge without obedience leads to spiritual imbalance.

    Obedience proves love, trust, and loyalty to God.

    4. ALIGNMENT TRANSFORMS CHARACTER AND CONDUCT

    When your life aligns with God’s Word:

    * Your speech changes

    * Your habits change

    * Your priorities change

    * Your relationships change

    * Your thinking is renewed

    Romans 12:2 reminds us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

    God’s Word molds you into the image of Christ.

    5. ALIGNMENT BRINGS BLESSINGS, STABILITY, AND GROWTH

    Psalm 1:1–3 describes the man who delights in God’s Word as a tree planted by rivers of water:

    * He is stable

    * He is fruitful

    * He prospers

    * His leaves do not wither

    When you align with the Word, you become unshakeable regardless of storms.

    Your life will follow whatever you align it with.

    Align with culture, and you become confused.

    Align with feelings, and you become unstable.

    Align with people’s opinions, and you will lose direction.

    But align with the Word of God, and your life will shine with divine clarity, purpose, and blessing.

    PRAYER

    Lord, bring my life into perfect alignment with Your Word.

    Straighten every part of me that has drifted away.

    Give me grace to obey, meditate, and live according to Scripture.

    In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    Pastor Abiodun Kadri
