  • DAVID: A HEART ACCORDING TO GOD

    1 Samuel 16:7
"Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

While everyone was looking at the outward appearance of Jesse's sons, God had chosen the young shepherd David. The prophet Samuel would have anointed the wrong person if God himself hadn't intervened.

Before the throne, David had developed an intimate relationship with God in the pastures. His heart was devoted to God himself before people saw him as God's anointed king. Character always precedes lasting influence.

God works first in the depths of the heart through the Holy Spirit before revealing us to others.

God cares more about who you are than what others see.

On this day, with what heart do I come before the Lord? Do I seek Him with all my heart, or do I only seek what His hand can offer me?

O Lord, form in me a heart that sincerely seeks You and remains devoted to You alone!

  • Daily Devotion — May 31 | Mark 12:43 (NKJV)

    God Sees What Others Overlook

Mark chapter 12 records Jesus observing people as they placed their offerings into the temple treasury. Many wealthy individuals gave large amounts, and their contributions likely drew attention from those around them. Then a poor widow came and quietly placed in two small coins worth very little in human eyes.

Yet Jesus called His disciples and explained that the widow had actually given more than all the others. While the wealthy gave from abundance, the widow gave out of her poverty and entrusted to God all that she had.

This moment reveals that God measures giving differently than people do. He does not only look at the amount given outwardly. He looks at the heart behind the offering. The widow’s gift reflected trust, sacrifice, and wholehearted devotion to God.

Jesus honored what others may have overlooked because He saw the sincerity of her faith. Her offering was valuable not because of its size but because of the surrender and trust it represented.

For believers today this verse reminds us that God values faithfulness and sacrifice more than outward appearance or recognition. Whether in giving, serving, or worship, God sees the heart behind every act.

Small acts done with sincere faith can carry great value in the eyes of God.

    Reflection Questions

    1. Do I trust God enough to give Him my best and not just what is convenient

    2. Am I more focused on outward recognition or sincere devotion to God

    3. How can I live with greater trust and generosity toward God

    Prayer

Lord God thank You that You see the heart and value sincere faith. Help me to trust You fully and to give You my best in every area of life. Teach me to live with humility, generosity, and wholehearted devotion. In Jesus name Amen.

    Practical Application

    - Give to God with sincerity and trust rather than for recognition

    - Remember that small acts of faithfulness matter deeply to God

    - Practice generosity with your time, resources, and service

    Takeaway Thought

God sees beyond outward appearance and honors hearts that trust Him completely.

  • What God Needs From You!

Many people ask, “What does God really want from me?” Is it money? Is it church attendance? Is it long prayers or religious rituals? The truth is, God does not need material things—He needs your heart, your obedience, your love, and your surrender.

“He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” — Micah 6:8 (NKJV)

God is the Owner of heaven and earth (Psalm 24:1), yet He still desires something from you: a genuine relationship and a life that reflects His will.

    1. GOD NEEDS YOUR HEART

“My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.” — Proverbs 23:26

God is not interested in performance without devotion.

He does not want your Sunday face and weekday sins. He wants your heart completely.

A heart that loves Him (Deuteronomy 6:5)

A heart that trusts Him (Proverbs 3:5)

A heart that is loyal to Him (2 Chronicles 16:9)

God does not want part of you — He wants ALL of you.

    2. GOD NEEDS YOUR OBEDIENCE

“To obey is better than sacrifice…” — 1 Samuel 15:22

Many people try to please God with activities while ignoring His instructions. Obedience means:

    Forgiving when it is painful

Letting go when He says “leave it”

    Moving when He says “go”

    Waiting when He says “stay”

    Jesus said:
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” — John 14:15

True love for God is proven by obedience to God.

    3. GOD NEEDS YOUR FAITH

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him…” — Hebrews 11:6

Faith is God’s currency. When you believe Him, you honor Him. When you doubt Him, you dishonor Him.

God needs you to trust Him when:

    You don’t understand the process

    You can’t see the outcome

    The doors look closed

    The delay is long

Your faith speaks louder than your words.

    4. GOD NEEDS YOUR HOLINESS

“Be holy, for I am holy.” — 1 Peter 1:16

Holiness is not perfection; it is separation from sin and dedication to God. God needs:

    Clean hands

    A pure heart

    A life that avoids compromise

You cannot walk with God and walk in sin at the same time.

Darkness and light do not mix (2 Corinthians 6:14).

    5. GOD NEEDS YOUR LOVE FOR OTHERS

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” — Mark 12:31

You cannot claim to love God and hate people.

    Love is forgiving

    Love is patient

Love is not jealous or proud (1 Corinthians 13)

God needs you to become His love in action.

When you bless others, forgive others, and serve others, you reveal God to the world.

    6. GOD NEEDS YOUR AVAILABILITY

“Here am I. Send me!” — Isaiah 6:8

God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called. He is not looking for ability, He is looking for availability.

    Can He send you?

    Can He use you?

    Can He trust you?

The willing vessel attracts divine assignment.

    7. GOD NEEDS YOUR PRAISE AND WORSHIP

“Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.” — Psalm 150:6

Praise is not for God’s ego; it is for your spiritual alignment. Praise:

    Invites His presence (Psalm 22:3)

    Breaks chains (Acts 16:25–26)

    Silences the enemy (Psalm 8:2)

God needs your sincere worship, not entertainment worship.

    CONCLUSION
What God needs from you is not religion, but relationship.

    He needs:
    Your heart
    Your obedience
    Your faith
    Your holiness
    Your love
    Your availability
    Your worship

When you give God these things, He gives you:

    Direction

    Peace

    Power

    Purpose

    Eternal life

You don’t give God because He is lacking. You give to Him because you are grateful.

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” — Psalm 37:4
