THE TEN COMMANDMENTS: GOD'S STANDARD OF JUDGMENT FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION.

"And God spake all these words, saying..." (Exodus 20:1, KJV)

Many people claim that God's law has been abolished. Yet from Genesis to Revelation, God judges sin according to the very principles found in the Ten Commandments. Before Sinai, people were already held accountable because God's moral law reflected His holy character (Romans 2:14–15).

    The Bible is clear:

«"Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil." — Ecclesiastes 8:11 (KJV)»

God's judgment may not always come immediately, but no sin goes unnoticed, and no sin will ultimately go unpunished unless it is repented of and forgiven through Christ (Acts 17:30–31; Romans 6:23).

    1. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." (Exodus 20:3)

    God has always judged idolatry.

Israel worshiped the golden calf (Exodus 32:1–35). About 3,000 people died, and the Lord sent a plague upon the people.

King Solomon turned to other gods (1 Kings 11:1–13). God declared that the kingdom would be torn from his son.

Nebuchadnezzar exalted himself and set up a golden image for worship (Daniel 3). God humbled his kingdom, and later, because of his pride, he lived like a beast until he acknowledged the Most High (Daniel 4:28–37).

    Lesson: God alone deserves worship.

    2. "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image." (Exodus 20:4–6)

    God condemns image worship.

The golden calf brought immediate judgment (Exodus 32).

Jeroboam's golden calves led Israel into sin, bringing God's judgment upon his house (1 Kings 12:26–33; 1 Kings 13:33–34; 1 Kings 14:7–16).

Lesson: Worship belongs to the Creator, not created things.

    3. "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain." (Exodus 20:7)

    God holds His name sacred.

A man blasphemed God's name and was put to death by God's command (Leviticus 24:10–16, 23).

Hophni and Phinehas, the sons of Eli, treated God's worship with contempt and dishonored His name through their wickedness. God judged them, and both died on the same day (1 Samuel 2:12–17, 22–25, 34; 1 Samuel 4:11).

Lesson: God's name must never be treated lightly.

    4. "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy." (Exodus 20:8–11)

God blesses obedience and judges deliberate rebellion.

A man gathering sticks on the Sabbath was judged according to God's command and stoned (Numbers 15:32–36).

God warned Israel that Sabbath-breaking would bring national judgment (Jeremiah 17:21–27).

The Babylonian captivity came in part because Israel neglected God's Sabbaths (2 Chronicles 36:20–21).

Lesson: The Sabbath is holy because God made it holy.

    5. "Honour thy father and thy mother." (Exodus 20:12)

God blesses honor and judges rebellion.

Absalom rebelled against his father David and died tragically (2 Samuel 15–18).

Children mocked Elisha, saying, "Go up, thou bald head." Two she-bears came out of the woods, and forty-two youths were mauled (2 Kings 2:23–24).

Lesson: God expects respect for parents and those He has appointed.

    6. "Thou shalt not kill." (Exodus 20:13)

    God judges murder.

Cain murdered Abel, and God cursed him and drove him from the ground (Genesis 4:8–12).

David arranged Uriah's death. Though forgiven, he suffered severe consequences in his household (2 Samuel 11–12).

Lesson: Human life is sacred because it bears God's image.

    7. "Thou shalt not commit adultery." (Exodus 20:14)

    God judges sexual immorality.

David committed adultery with Bathsheba, and the child died. The sword never departed from David's house (2 Samuel 11–12).

Judah and Tamar (Genesis 38). Judah acknowledged, "She hath been more righteous than I." His sin was exposed publicly. Scripture records the shame of his actions, though it does not say he was judged for "ten generations."

Lesson: Sin may be forgiven, but it often carries painful consequences.

    8. "Thou shalt not steal." (Exodus 20:15)

    God judges theft.

Achan stole what God had devoted to destruction. Israel was defeated at Ai, and Achan and his household were judged (Joshua 7:1–26).

Gehazi deceitfully took gifts from Naaman and was struck with leprosy (2 Kings 5:20–27).

Lesson: Nothing can be hidden from God.

    9. "Thou shalt not bear false witness." (Exodus 20:16)

    God judges lying.

Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Spirit and died immediately (Acts 5:1–11).

Jezebel arranged false witnesses against Naboth, bringing God's judgment upon her and Ahab's house (1 Kings 21).

Lesson: God is a God of truth.

    10. "Thou shalt not covet." (Exodus 20:17)

    Coveting leads to destruction.

Ahab coveted Naboth's vineyard, resulting in murder and God's judgment (1 Kings 21).

Judas Iscariot's love of money led him to betray Christ and perish (Matthew 26:14–16; Acts 1:18–20).

Lesson: Coveting begins in the heart but produces deadly fruit.

The Ten Commandments in the Final Judgment

The Bible ends where it began: God's law remains His standard of righteousness.

Romans 2:12–16 — God will judge the secrets of men.

James 2:10–12 — We shall be judged by the "law of liberty."

Ecclesiastes 12:13–14 — "Fear God, and keep his commandments... For God shall bring every work into judgment."

Revelation 20:12–13 — The dead are judged according to their works.

Revelation 22:14 (KJV) — "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life..."

    Conclusion

From Genesis to Revelation, God has never treated sin lightly. Every violation of His holy law brings guilt, and every act is recorded in heaven. Some judgments come immediately, while others are reserved for the final judgment. Yet God's mercy is available to all who repent and believe in Jesus Christ.

The cross did not abolish God's law—it revealed how holy it is. Christ died because the penalty of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Through Him we receive forgiveness, and through His grace He writes His law in our hearts (Hebrews 8:10).

"Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil." — Ecclesiastes 8:11

Do not mistake God's patience for approval. His mercy invites repentance, but His judgment is certain. Therefore, let us fear God, trust in Christ, and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man (Ecclesiastes 12:13–14).

  • Good evening, brethren.
    1. Evening devotion for today.

    ED.i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST*
    (COCIN DEVOTIONAL)

    *DATE:*
    TUESDAY 28TH JULY, 2026.

    *SUB-THEME:*
THE CONSEQUENCES OF REJECTING GOD'S GRACE.

    *TOPIC:*
    WAR (I).

    *TEXT:*
    1 SAMUEL 4:1-11.
    1. And Samuel’s word came to all Israel.
    2. The Philistines deployed their forces to meet Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand of them on the battlefield.
    3. When the soldiers returned to camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why did the Lord bring defeat on us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the Lord’s covenant from Shiloh, so that He may go with us and save us from the hand of our enemies.”
    4. So the people sent men to Shiloh, and they brought back the ark of the covenant of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim. And Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
    5. When the ark of the Lord’s covenant came into the camp, all Israel raised such a great shout that the ground shook.
    6. Hearing the uproar, the Philistines asked, “What’s all this shouting in the Hebrew camp?” When they learned that the ark of the Lord had come into the camp,
    7. the Philistines were afraid. “A god has come into the camp,” they said. “Oh no! Nothing like this has happened before.
    8. We’re doomed! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? They are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues in the wilderness.
    9. Be strong, Philistines! Be men, or you will be subject to the Hebrews, as they have been to you. Be men, and fight!”
    10. So the Philistines fought, and the Israelites were defeated and every man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great; Israel lost thirty thousand foot soldiers.
    11. The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.

    *TOPIC:*
    WAR (I).

    *THE MESSAGE:*
War is a state of armed conflict between countries, nations, ethnic, or other sizable groups, usually involving the engagement of military forces. In this text, Israel engaged the Philistines in a tense battle. Israel sinned, and they suffered loss because God turned His face against them. They thought the presence of the Ark of the Lord would save them, yet the defeat was grave. Like Israel, the Church is complacent to sinful acts. Some of the attacks on Christian communities could be persecution because of our faith, while others could be as a punishment from God. Even amid pain, some members are still nonchalant, pursuing worldly pleasures instead of seeking God through genuine repentance. Reader, do not be the reason war continues to thrive.

    *REFLECTION:*
    Always settle for peace.

    *PRAYER:*
Help me, Lord, to seek for peace always. Amen.

    *MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:*
    HEBREWS 10:29.
How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

    *TODAY'S BIBLE READING PLAN:*
    ISAIAH 49-51.

    2. Evening Prayer for today.

    EP.i. Evening Prayer

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to Phillip Kotze purpose. ⏤ Romans 8:28

In God's economy, nothing is ever wasted. ⏤ Oswald Chambers

We lift up our hearts to You, O God, at this evening hour. We are grateful for the mercies and blessings of the day. You have kept us from harm. You have provided for our needs, giving us our daily bread and supplying all our necessities. You have prospered us in our work and helped us in our tasks.

We haven't had our way in everything. Some things we desired, we didn't receive. Some plans we weren’t able to carry out. Some hopes we had in the morning weren't realized. We had to take up our cross at times and deny ourselves. But we believe that these difficult things were just as much a part of Your loving plan for us as the things that were pleasant and agreeable. All Your ways are mercy and truth. Whatever form Your will takes, we know it is goodness and love. So we accept the hard things that came to us today with the same confidence and trust as the pleasant things. Help us to say cheerfully and with unwavering faith, "May Your will be done," and may we receive the blessing You have hidden in the painful things.

We leave this day in Your hands now. We will never see it again until we meet it when the books are opened before Your great white throne. We can change nothing we have done. We can’t unsay unkind words we’ve spoken. We can’t correct mistakes, recall unkindness, or take back any evil influence we've put into the world. We can only leave the day with You. You are merciful and gracious. Have compassion on us. Deal gently with the day that is now out of our hands, for Jesus' sake. Amen.

Some of the attacks on Christian communities could be persecution because of our faith, while others could be as a punishment from God. Even amid pain, some members are still nonchalant, pursuing worldly pleasures instead of seeking God through genuine repentance. Reader, do not be the reason war continues to thrive. *REFLECTION:* Always settle for peace. *PRAYER:* Help me, Lord, to seek for peace always. Amen. *MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:* HEBREWS 10:29. How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace? *TODAY'S BIBLE READING PLAN:* ISAIAH 49-51. ED.ii. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST* (COCIN DEVOTIONAL) *DATE:* TUESDAY 28TH JULY, 2026. *SUB-THEME:* THE CONSEQUENCES OF REJECTING GOD'S GRACE. *TOPIC:* WAR (I). *TEXT:* 1 SAMUEL 4:1-11. Let us bring the ark of the Lord’s covenant from Shiloh, so that He may go with us and save us from the hand of our enemies.” 4. 6. Hearing the uproar, the Philistines asked, “What’s all this shouting in the Hebrew camp?” When they learned that the ark of the Lord had come into the camp, 7. the Philistines were afraid. Be men, and fight!” 10. So the Philistines fought, and the Israelites were defeated and every man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great; Israel lost thirty thousand foot soldiers. 11. The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died. *TOPIC:* WAR (I). *THE MESSAGE:* War is a state of armed conflict between countries, nations, ethnic, or other sizable groups, usually involving the engagement of military forces. Evening Prayer for today. EP.i. Evening Prayer And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose. ⏤ Romans 8:28 In God's economy, nothing is ever wasted. ⏤ Oswald Chambers We lift up our hearts to You, O God, at this evening hour. Amen. https://www.youdevotion.com/daily-prayer/miller/23/evening #taptapstudio #youdevotion.

  • Do Not Fear Or Be Afraid Joshua 8:1-1 Samuel 4:22 NKJV

Joshua 8:1-2 Now the LORD said to Joshua; "Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai, See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and hid land,

"And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves, Lay an ambush for the city behind it."

Joshua 10:8 And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you."

Joshua 10:24-25 So it was, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." And they drew near and put their feet of their necks.

Then Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage, for thus the LORD will do to all your enemies against whom you fight."

Judges 4:17-22 However, Sisera had fled away of foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, "Turn aside, my lord, turn aside to me; do not fear." And when he had turned aside with her into the tent, she covered him with a blanket.

then he said to her, "Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty." So she opened a jug of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him.

And he said to her, "Stand at the door of the tent, and if any man comes and inquires of you, and says, 'Is there any man here?' you shall say, 'NO.'"

Then Jael, Heber's wife, took a tent peg and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went down into the ground; for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

And then, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said to him, "Come, I will show you the man whom you seek." And when he went into her tent, there lay Sisera, dead with the peg in is temple.

Judges 6:21-24 Then the Angel of the LORD put out the end of the staff that was in His hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened bread; and fire rose out of the rock, and consumed the meat and the unleavened bread, And the Angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.

Now Gideon perceived that He was the Angel of the LORD. So Gideon said, "Alas, O Lord GOD! For I have seen the Angel of the LORD face to face."

Then the LORD said to him, "Peace be with you; do not fear, you shall not die."

So Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it THE-LORD-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

Judges 7:9-11 It happened on the same night that the LORD said to him, "Arise, go down against the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.

"But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant.

"and you shall hear what they say; and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp."Then he went down with Purah his servant to the outpost of the armed men who were in the camp.

Judges 9:16-21 "Now therefore, if you have acted in truth and sincerity in making Abimelech king, and if your have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done to him as he deserves--

    "for my father fought for you, risked his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian;

"but you have risen up against my father's house this day, and killed his seventy sons on one stone, and made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother--

"if then you have acted in truth and sincerity with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.

"But if not, let fire come from Abimelech and devour the men of Shechem and Beth Millo; and let fire come from Beth Millo and devour Abimelech!"

And Jonathan ran away and fled; and he went to Beer and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

Ruth 3:10-11 Then he said, "Blessed are you of the LORD, my daughter! For you have shown more kindness at the end than at the beginning, in that you did not go after young men whether poor or rich.

"And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you request, for all the people of my town know that you are a virtuous woman.

1 Samuel 4:19-22 Now his daughter-in-law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, due to be delivered; and when she heard the news that the ark of God was captured, and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and gave birth, for her labor pains came upon her.

And about the time of her death the women who stood by her said to her,
Do not fear, for you have borne a son." But she did not answer, nor did she regard it.

Then she named the child Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel!" because the ark of God had been captured and because her father-in-law and her husband.

And she said, "The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured."

  • Going Into Battle With God’s Presence

    Scripture

    Numbers 31:6 (NKJV)
Then Moses sent them to the war, one thousand from each tribe, he sent them to the war with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, with the holy articles and the signal trumpets in his hand.

    God Goes Before His People

In this verse, Israel is commanded to go into battle, but they do not go alone. Moses sends the warriors out with Phinehas the priest, along with the holy articles and the trumpets used to signal God’s presence and direction. This shows that Israel’s confidence in battle was not in their numbers or weapons, but in the presence of God who went before them.

For believers today, this truth is powerful. We all face battles—spiritual warfare, challenges, temptations, and moments of testing. But like Israel, we never fight alone. God’s presence goes with us, His Word guides us, and His Spirit strengthens us. Victory does not depend on our strength but on His power.

This verse reminds us to never enter our battles without bringing God with us. When His presence leads, we can face every challenge with confidence and courage.

    Reflection Questions

    1. Do I face my battles in my own strength, or do I rely on God’s presence?

    2. What spiritual battles am I facing right now that I need to surrender to God?

    3. How can I bring God’s Word and prayer into the challenges I face?

    Prayer

Lord God, thank You for going before me in every battle. Help me to rely on Your presence and not my own strength. Teach me to face challenges with courage, trusting that You fight for me and with me. Lead me, guide me, and strengthen me by Your Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen.

  • Zeal for God’s Honor

    Scripture

    Numbers 25:11 (NKJV)
Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the children of Israel, because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My zeal.

A Heart on Fire for God

In this verse, Israel had fallen into deep sin, joining themselves to the worship and immorality of the Moabites. Their compromise provoked God’s anger, and judgment began to fall on the camp. But Phinehas stepped forward with holy zeal, putting an end to the sin that was spreading among the people. Through his bold and righteous action, God’s wrath was stopped, and Israel was spared.

For believers today, this passage teaches us about having a heart that burns with zeal for God’s honor. Zeal does not mean anger or aggression—it means deep devotion, a love for holiness, and a willingness to stand for what is right even when others will not. Sin destroys, but a heart sincerely devoted to God helps preserve and protect.

This verse challenges us to examine whether we are lukewarm or truly passionate about honoring God in our lives.

    Reflection Questions

    1. Do I have a heart that cares about God’s honor in my home, work, and daily life?

    2. What areas of compromise do I need to remove so that my devotion to God is pure and sincere?

    3. How can I stand for righteousness with humility, courage, and love?

    Prayer

Lord God, give me a heart full of holy zeal. Help me to care about what You care about and to stand for what honors You. Remove any compromise from my life, and let my devotion be sincere, bold, and pleasing in Your sight. In Jesus name, Amen.

  • Living Bible Psalm 106:24-31
They refused to enter the Promised Land, for they wouldn’t believe his solemn oath to care for them. Instead, they pouted in their tents and mourned and despised his command. Therefore he swore that he would kill them in the wilderness and send their children away to distant lands as exiles. Then our fathers joined the worshipers of Baal at Peor and even offered sacrifices to the dead! With all these things they angered him—and so a plague broke out upon them and continued until Phinehas executed those whose sins had caused the plague to start. (For this good deed Phinehas will be remembered forever.)
