• Good morning, brethren.
    1. Morning devotion for today.

    MD.i. MORNING TEA
    THE WORD FOR TODAY
    SUNDAY AUGUST 2, 2O26.
    "TAKE THE PLUNGE (2)"

    ‘…Underneath are the everlasting arms...’ Deuteronomy 33:27 NKJV

    PICTURE THIS: A father and his two small children are playing. He’s in the swimming pool, and he invites them to run and jump into his arms. One does, the other doesn’t. The one who doesn’t, watches gleefully, applauds, and jumps up and down. But when her dad invites her to do the same she shakes her head and backs away. Is that you? Living on the edge of the pool, never taking the plunge, happy to experience life vicariously through others? Preferring to take no risk, rather than any risk? For fear of the worst, you never enjoy the best. You say, ‘But I’m not sure what I’m jumping into!’ Read this: ‘Underneath are the everlasting arms.’ Foolishness is closing your eyes and jumping before you know there’s even water in the pool, or that your father has said, ‘Come, I’ll catch you.’ Faith is knowing that the only way to conquer your fear of the water is to take the leap, because the One who is calling you has been there for you from the moment you became His child. Nothing is more important to Him than your safety, the development of your faith, and your total success in life. God told Joshua, ‘…arise, go over this Jordan…to the land which I am giving Eunice Gankpe …Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go’ (Joshua 1:2, 7 NKJV). Note the words, ‘Arise, go, be strong.’ In other words: take the plunge!

    ```TEXT:JOHN 15:1-5```
    ```KEY VERSE:``` _*"I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing" (JOHN 15:5).*_

    *Humanity has witnessed incredible feats over the centuries, especially in the fields of science and technology. While these developments have improved the standard of living across the world, it has equally fuelled or, at most, reinforced atheistic and contemptuous dispositions of despisers of God. Some folks, indeed, think that God should completely stay away from the affairs of earthlings. They can boast of transgender surgery that changes sex identity at birth to something that God did not intend, all in an attempt to part ways with Him. Unknown to such warped minds, they are only trying to deform or alter what God has created. The effective way of parting ways with God would have been to create their own man or woman before meddling with their features, but not from the dust of the soil which He created. This is simply impossible!*

    *Our Lord Jesus Christ was unequivocal about man's grave inability to exist or function without Him. Just as man and his habitat could not have come into existence without Him, so we should always lean on Him, not only for sustenance, but also for survival. We live at the pleasure of God. Our breath comes from Him. Nature, through its atmosphere, land, vegetation, oceans, and rivers, from which we draw what we consume in food, manufacturing, and industry, belongs to Him. The feeble man is humiliatingly overwhelmed by his Creator.*

    *Thus helplessly exposed, man must not be arrogant or presumptuous because of any inventions, whose feats and contraptions are toys as they stand in contrast to the great galactic formations overlooking our planet. We must revere the One Who brought them forth. It's contemptuous to contemn Him by telling Him we have had enough of Him, and that we can take care of ourselves.*

    *Everyone needs God and His unfailing love and laws more than ever before to deliver them from the trap and deadly consequences of sin. We need more of Christ's presence to dominate our souls, government structures, homes, schools, public places, and worship centres. We need His peace in a troubled world on the brink of collapse. We need Him also to usher us into the hereafter of eternal joy.*

    *The burning bush symbolises the condition of the children of Israel in Egypt. God appeared to Moses miraculously to draw his attention to the suffering of His people in the hands of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.*

    *Moses turned aside to see the burning bush, and God spoke to him about the affliction of His people and sent him to deliver them from Egypt. Sinning youths are expected to turn to God for their salvation without delay.*

    *Believers are expected to respond to the call of God to reach out to sinners around them. Jesus has commanded all believers to go into all parts of the world to preach the gospel to every creature. The big question is: Are there youths who are ready to turn aside like Moses did to hear the call of God?*

    ```Key Verse:``` _*"They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham" (John 8:39).*_
    Has someone ever told you that you resemble one of your parents? That can only happen if that person has known your parents before. However, that remark may only be true about your physical appearance, but not in your conduct.
    There are some children, of course, whose physical appearance and conduct are entirely different from those of their parents. That means, good and godly parents can produce bad and wicked children, like the case of Eli and his sons.
    Jesus knows who Abraham was (John 8:58). The Lord said He could not see any part of the character of the children of Israel that resembled that of Abraham they claimed to be their father. How could they claim to be children of Abraham who feared, obeyed and loved God, and yet go against the way and the will of God? Jesus concluded that they were children of the devil and not of Abraham (John 8:44).
    One's behaviour betrays him or her. No one can hate Christ, disobey His word, reject Him as Saviour and even want to kill Him, and claim to be a child of God. There are many people who use religion as a cover-up to hate and reject Christ. That is because they do not know the true God at all.
    *Are you one of those children who say they are children of God, friends of Jesus, but their behaviours are sinful and ungodly? It is only through your Christ-like and righteous life that others can know whether you are a true friend of Jesus or not.*
    *ABIDING IN CHRIST: THE SECRET OF A FRUITFUL LIFE*
    *TEXT:* JOHN 15:1–5
    1. I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
    2. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
    3. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
    4. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
    5. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
    *TimelessTruth:*
    _Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord._ (1 Corinthians 15:58).
    *INTRODUCTION*
    George Washington Carver (1864–1943), the renowned agricultural scientist and devoted Christian, transformed farming in the southern United States by encouraging crop rotation and better soil management. He often spent time in prayer before beginning his research, believing that wisdom came from God. Carver once remarked, "I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour." One of the lessons farmers understand is that a branch separated from the vine cannot bear fruit, regardless of how healthy it once appeared. Its life depends entirely upon its connection to the vine. The branch does not struggle to produce fruit; it simply remains connected, and the life of the vine flows through it.
    Jesus used this familiar agricultural picture in John 15 to teach one of the greatest truths of the Christian life: fruitfulness is the result of abiding in Him. *"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.*
    ( Jeremiah 17:7–8)
    Our effectiveness in Christian living does not depend upon our talents, education or strength, but upon our continual fellowship with Christ.
    His followers, are not merely to admire the Vine, but to abide in it. The Christian life is not sustained by occasional moments of devotion, but by a continual relationship with Christ. The branch has no independent life. Its strength, nourishment and fruitfulness all come from the vine. Likewise, believers flourish only as they remain connected to Jesus through faith, obedience, prayer and His Word.
    This passage challenges us to examine our lives:
    Are we merely attached to Christ outwardly or are we truly abiding in Him?
    Are we busy with religious activity while neglecting personal fellowship with the Saviour?
    Is the fruit of the Spirit becoming increasingly evident in our character and conduct?
    God is more concerned with fruitfulness than mere busyness. A fruitful life glorifies Him, blesses others and bears lasting eternal value. When difficulties come, remember that the Father's pruning is not punishment, but preparation. He lovingly removes what hinders growth so that we may bear more fruit. May we daily abide in Christ, depend upon His strength and allow His life to be seen through ours.
    *1. The Source of Fruitfulness*
    a. Jesus identifies Himself as the True Vine and His Father as the Vinedresser.
    Jesus alone is the true source of spiritual life and lasting fruit. The Father lovingly removes unfruitful branches and prunes fruitful ones to increase their productivity.
    b. God's purpose is not merely that believers exist, but that they bear much fruit for His glory. God desires every believer to grow spiritually. His discipline and pruning are expressions of His love, preparing us for greater usefulness.
    *Questions*
    Am I allowing God to remove attitudes, habits or priorities that hinder my spiritual growth? Is my life producing spiritual fruit that brings glory to God?
    *2. The Secret of Fellowship*
    a. Jesus calls His disciples to remain in Him continually.
    The disciples had been made clean through Christ's teaching. Abiding is a daily, deliberate choice to remain in close fellowship with Christ.
    *Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving*
    (Colossians 4:2).
    b. Spiritual life flourishes through constant dependence upon Jesus. A fruitful Christian life is maintained by regular prayer, Bible study, worship and obedience.
    *Questions*
    What practical habits help me remain closely connected with Christ each day. Am I spending time with Christ consistently or only when difficulties arise?*
    *3. The Strength of Dependence*
    a.Jesus declares that apart from Him, believers can do nothing of eternal value. Every ability for effective Christian living comes from Christ.
    Apostle Paul declared: *“I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13)* Fruitfulness begins when believers surrender completely to Christ's leadership.
    b. Those who abide in Christ bear much fruit because His life flows through them.
    Lasting spiritual success is not achieved through self-effort, but through continual dependence upon Christ.
    *Questions*
    Am I relying on my own strength or on Christ's power in my daily life and ministry? Can others see evidence of Christ's life and character in me?
    *Prayer Points*
    1. Lord Jesus, help me to abide in You daily through prayer, obedience and Your Word.
    2. Father, produce in my life the fruit of the Holy Spirit that glorifies Your name.
    3. Lord, give me grace to accept Your loving discipline so that I may become more useful in Your service.
    4. Heavenly Father, keep me from relying on my own strength and teach me to depend entirely upon Christ.
    *Hymn:* I am Thine Oh Lord.
    *THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOHN 4-5.
    2. Morning Prayer for today.
    MP.i. Morning Prayer
    This [is] the day [which] the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. ⏤ Psalm 118:24
    The soul needs Sabbath to rest and recharge. ⏤ Wesley L. Duewel
    O God, we thank You for this holy Sunday. It is Your day, honored and made sacred by You from the beginning. It was made even more holy by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is full of holy hopes as it reminds us of the eternal rest in Heaven. We thank You for all that this day means to us in our personal lives and for the blessings it has brought to our home. We thank You for its quiet rest, that we can cease from our weekday toil and spend the day with You.
    May You make this a day of real blessing to us. May Heaven’s windows be opened, and may holy blessings be poured upon us. Bless our home life today. May we grow closer together as a family. May our affection be sweetened. Fill our hearts with Your love—then we will love each other as we should. Bless our home conversation. May it be beneficial to us, ministering grace to our hearts, and may it be worthy of the day. Help us to shut out of our lives anything that is worldly or unworthy of You. May Your Spirit fill our home, bringing gentle, enriching influences.
    Bless our worship in Your house. Go with us and help us to honor You in the public services. Open our eyes to see wonderful things in Your word. Sanctify the worship and instruction we receive in the sanctuary. May we be so blessed in our hearts by waiting on You that we will be ready for good service all week.
    Help us also to be a blessing to others today. Fill us with Your Spirit so that every life that touches ours will receive a blessing from us.
    We ask all these Sunday blessings from Your hand, humbly, faithfully, and joyfully, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Are we busy with religious activity while neglecting personal fellowship with the Saviour? Is the fruit of the Spirit becoming increasingly evident in our character and conduct? God is more concerned with fruitfulness than mere busyness. A fruitful life glorifies Him, blesses others and bears lasting eternal value. When difficulties come, remember that the Father's pruning is not punishment, but preparation. He lovingly removes what hinders growth so that we may bear more fruit. May we daily abide in Christ, depend upon His strength and allow His life to be seen through ours. *1. The Source of Fruitfulness* a. Jesus identifies Himself as the True Vine and His Father as the Vinedresser. Jesus alone is the true source of spiritual life and lasting fruit. The Father lovingly removes unfruitful branches and prunes fruitful ones to increase their productivity. b. God's purpose is not merely that believers exist, but that they bear much fruit for His glory. God desires every believer to grow spiritually. His discipline and pruning are expressions of His love, preparing us for greater usefulness. *Questions* Am I allowing God to remove attitudes, habits or priorities that hinder my spiritual growth? Is my life producing spiritual fruit that brings glory to God? *2. The Secret of Fellowship* a. Jesus calls His disciples to remain in Him continually. The disciples had been made clean through Christ's teaching. Abiding is a daily, deliberate choice to remain in close fellowship with Christ. *Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving* (Colossians 4:2). b. Spiritual life flourishes through constant dependence upon Jesus. A fruitful Christian life is maintained by regular prayer, Bible study, worship and obedience. *Questions* What practical habits help me remain closely connected with Christ each day. Am I spending time with Christ consistently or only when difficulties arise?* *3. The Strength of Dependence* a.Jesus declares that apart from Him, believers can do nothing of eternal value. Every ability for effective Christian living comes from Christ. Apostle Paul declared: *“I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13)* Fruitfulness begins when believers surrender completely to Christ's leadership. b. Those who abide in Christ bear much fruit because His life flows through them. Lasting spiritual success is not achieved through self-effort, but through continual dependence upon Christ. *Questions* Am I relying on my own strength or on Christ's power in my daily life and ministry? Can others see evidence of Christ's life and character in me? *Prayer Points* 1. Lord Jesus, help me to abide in You daily through prayer, obedience and Your Word.🙏 2. Father, produce in my life the fruit of the Holy Spirit that glorifies Your name.🙏 3. Lord, give me grace to accept Your loving discipline so that I may become more useful in Your service.🙏 4. Heavenly Father, keep me from relying on my own strength and teach me to depend entirely upon Christ.🙏 *Hymn:* I am Thine Oh Lord. *THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOHN 4-5. 2. Morning Prayer for today. MP.i. Morning Prayer This [is] the day [which] the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. ⏤ Psalm 118:24 The soul needs Sabbath to rest and recharge. ⏤ Wesley L. Duewel O God, we thank You for this holy Sunday. It is Your day, honored and made sacred by You from the beginning. It was made even more holy by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is full of holy hopes as it reminds us of the eternal rest in Heaven. We thank You for all that this day means to us in our personal lives and for the blessings it has brought to our home. We thank You for its quiet rest, that we can cease from our weekday toil and spend the day with You. May You make this a day of real blessing to us. May Heaven’s windows be opened, and may holy blessings be poured upon us. Bless our home life today. May we grow closer together as a family. May our affection be sweetened. Fill our hearts with Your love—then we will love each other as we should. Bless our home conversation. May it be beneficial to us, ministering grace to our hearts, and may it be worthy of the day. Help us to shut out of our lives anything that is worldly or unworthy of You. May Your Spirit fill our home, bringing gentle, enriching influences. Bless our worship in Your house. Go with us and help us to honor You in the public services. Open our eyes to see wonderful things in Your word. Sanctify the worship and instruction we receive in the sanctuary. May we be so blessed in our hearts by waiting on You that we will be ready for good service all week. Help us also to be a blessing to others today. Fill us with Your Spirit so that every life that touches ours will receive a blessing from us. We ask all these Sunday blessings from Your hand, humbly, faithfully, and joyfully, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. https://www.youdevotion.com/daily-prayer/miller/28/morning #taptapstudio #youdevotion.
  • DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 211
    DATE: 30TH JULY 2026
    TOPIC: IGNITING THE FIRE (PART 1): A GENUINE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST
    ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: JOHN 15:5 (NKJV)
    "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."
    Devotional message
    We thank God for faithfully leading us through our study on the Fire Extinguishers. By His Word, He has revealed the things that quench spiritual fervor and hinder believers from burning for Him. Today, by His grace, we begin a new series on Igniting the Fire.
    The first and most important step to burning for God is establishing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. No one can burn with God's fire apart from Him. Jesus declared, "Without Me you can do nothing." Just as a transmitter of heat must remain connected to its source, every believer must remain connected to Christ, who is the Source of spiritual life and fire.
    Many people attend church services, participate in religious activities, and identify as Christians, yet they have never truly surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ. Christianity is not merely attending church on Sundays or belonging to a denomination; it is a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It begins when a person repents of sin, believes in the finished work of Christ, and confesses Him as Lord and Saviour.
    The prophet Isaiah teaches that sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2). Therefore, anyone who desires to burn for God must first turn away from sin and surrender completely to Christ. As we place our faith in Him, He forgives us, makes us new creations, and begins the lifelong work of transforming and pruning us into vessels fit for His glory.
    God does not ignite His fire in order for us to keep it to ourselves. He fills us so that we may become lights in a dark world, influencing our families, communities, workplaces, and nations with the life of Christ. However, this all begins with a genuine relationship with Jesus.
    Child of God, if you desire to burn with holy passion and make an eternal impact, begin by drawing near to Christ. Abide in Him daily, allow Him to transform your heart, and let His life flow through you. The closer you walk with Him, the brighter His fire will burn within you.
    A genuine relationship with Jesus Christ is the foundation of spiritual fire. Without abiding in Him, no one can sustain a life of lasting impact.
    Prayer:
    Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to save me and bring me into fellowship with You. Help me to abide in Christ daily and to walk in obedience to Your Word. Remove everything that separates me from You, and ignite within me a holy fire that will glorify Your name and impact my generation. Let my life continually reflect Jesus Christ. In His precious name, Amen.
  • Sometimes we pray for God to change our circumstances, but He begins by changing us.
    The seasons of pruning, stretching, and letting go can feel uncomfortable. Yet God never removes something without a greater purpose. He strips away fear to replace it with faith. He removes pride to grow humility. He loosens our grip on yesterday so we can receive what He has prepared for tomorrow.
    The old version of you cannot carry the calling God has placed on your life.
    If you feel like things are falling away, don't lose heart. What feels like loss may actually be God's loving preparation. He is shaping your character, strengthening your faith, and making you more like Christ.
    Your breakthrough doesn't begin when everything around you changes—it begins when God transforms the heart within you.
    "And we all... are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord."
    — 2 Corinthians 3:18
    Keep trusting the process. The God who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.
    Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And peoples shall flow to it. [2] Many nations shall come and say, "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths." For out of Zion the law shall go forth, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. [3] He shall judge between many peoples, And rebuke strong nations afar off; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore. [4] But everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree, And no one shall make them afraid; For the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken. [5] For all people walk each in the name of his god, But we will walk in the name of the LORD our God Forever and ever.
  • Growth will embarrass you.
    Before God promotes you, He will expose what still needs pruning.
    Before He trusts you with influence, He’ll confront your insecurities.
    Before He gives you impact, He’ll refine your motives.
    You’ll think you’re being attacked…
    When really, you’re being prepared.
    The process will feel like loss.
    Loss of comfort.
    Loss of ego.
    Loss of who you used to be.
    But what feels like subtraction is actually precision.
    God doesn’t crush you to destroy you.
    He crushes what would destroy you.
    You can’t carry oil if you’re still clinging to olives.
    Let Him refine you.
    Let Him prune you.
    Let Him stretch you.
    Mature roots grow in hidden seasons.
  • * DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 178*
    *DATE: 28TH JUNE 2026*
    *TOPIC: CHOSEN TO BE FRUITFUL – 7*
    *ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:Proverbs 11:30 (NKJV)*
    " *The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise."*
    *Devotional message:*
    We continue with our series, Chosen to Be Fruitful. Over the past few days, we have seen that God expects every believer to bear fruit. We have also learned that pruning is an essential part of becoming more fruitful. In the coming days, we shall focus on specific areas in which every believer is called to bear fruit. One of the most important of these is soul winning.
    Soul winning is the very heartbeat of God. Scripture reveals that God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. He is patient with humanity, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Likewise, heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents more than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance. This demonstrates the immeasurable value that God places on every soul.
    The Apostle Paul raises an important question in Romans: "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?" This reminds us that people cannot believe in Christ unless someone shares the Gospel with them.
    Therefore, every believer has the responsibility of making Christ known. Soul winning is not reserved for pastors, evangelists, or missionaries alone—it is the calling of every follower of Jesus Christ. We bear fruit when we share the Gospel with family members, friends, neighbours, colleagues, and those whom God places in our path. We can also proclaim Christ through our conversations, our testimony, our social media platforms, and by supporting evangelistic work through prayer and financial giving so that the Gospel may reach those who have never heard it.
    The early church understood this responsibility. Wherever they went, they preached Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection. As a result, many believed, lives were transformed, and the church continued to grow. Their fruitfulness was evident because they made Christ the centre of their message.
    Child of God, never forget that winning souls is one of your highest privileges and responsibilities. While your career, business, education, and other responsibilities are important, your primary assignment is to represent Christ and make Him known wherever He sends you. As you faithfully share the Gospel, God will use your life to bring many into His Kingdom.
    Every believer is called to bear fruit through soul winning by proclaiming Jesus Christ and participating in the advancement of His Kingdom.
    *Prayer:*
    Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Fill my heart with compassion for the lost and give me boldness to share the Gospel wherever You send me. Help me to become fruitful in soul winning and to faithfully represent Christ in my words, actions, and lifestyle. May many come to know You through the testimony of my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
  • * DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 178*
    *DATE: 27TH JUNE 2026*
    *TOPIC: CHOSEN TO BE FRUITFUL – 6*
    *ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: JOHN 15:2 (NKJV)*
    *"Every branch in Me that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit."* —
    *Devotional message:*
    We continue with our series, Chosen to Be Fruitful. The moment you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you begin the journey of bearing fruit. However, God's desire is not that we remain at one level of fruitfulness. He desires that we continually grow and bear even more fruit for His glory.
    Jesus teaches that every branch which bears fruit is pruned by the Father so that it may become even more fruitful. Pruning is not a sign of God's rejection but of His love and commitment to our spiritual growth. A wise gardener removes whatever hinders the healthy growth of a tree, and in the same way, our Heavenly Father removes everything that limits our effectiveness in His Kingdom.
    Many times, this pruning process takes place during seasons of wilderness and testing. During these moments, God exposes attitudes, habits, and desires that must be surrendered. Some things He asks us to leave behind may be sinful, while others may not necessarily be wrong in themselves, but they no longer contribute to His purpose for our lives. He may also instruct us to separate from certain relationships, environments, or distractions that hinder our spiritual growth.
    For some believers, God deals with pride and self-reliance. For others, He prunes misplaced confidence in personal ability, just as Peter had to learn that victory comes through dependence on Christ and not human strength. Others undergo seasons where God deals with the desires of the flesh, teaching them to walk in the Spirit rather than be governed by worldly appetites.
    Although pruning can be painful, it is always purposeful. God never removes anything without intending to replace it with greater fruitfulness. Every season of correction, discipline, and refinement is preparing us to reflect Christ more fully and to become more effective in advancing His Kingdom.
    Child of God, do not resist the pruning of the Lord. Embrace His dealings with humility and perseverance, knowing that He is working all things together for your good. As you submit to His refining process, your life will produce greater fruit that will glorify God and bless generations to come.
    God prunes every fruitful believer so that they may bear even greater fruit. Embracing His refining process leads to greater spiritual maturity, effectiveness, and lasting impact.
    *Prayer:*
    Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to prune my life. Give me the grace to embrace Your correction and refinement without complaining. Remove everything within me that hinders my fruitfulness, and help me to submit fully to the work of Your Holy Spirit. May my life continually bear fruit that brings glory to Your name and advances Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
    #4 The Old Commandment Made New
    (Walking in the Light: Studies Through 1 John – 1 John 2:7–11)
    Scripture Reading (NKJV):
    1 John 2:7 Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.
    1 John 2:8 Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.
    1 John 2:9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.
    1 John 2:10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
    1 John 2:11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
    1. No New Commandment, Yet Not Merely Old
    John begins with what sounds like a contradiction: “I write no new commandment,” and then, “Again, a new commandment I write to you.” This is not confusion. It is apostolic precision.
    The command to love was not newly invented by John, nor even by the church. God had commanded His people to love long before the coming of Christ. “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” stood within the Law of Moses. The people of God had never been permitted to separate covenant faithfulness from love toward others. Cold orthodoxy was never the goal. Loveless religion was never obedience.
    Yet John also says the commandment is new. It is new because it has now been revealed in its fullest form in Jesus Christ. The old commandment has not been replaced; it has been fulfilled, embodied, clarified, and intensified in Him. In Christ, love is no longer merely commanded from outside us. It has been displayed before us in flesh and blood.
    2. Love Made Visible in Christ
    Jesus did not simply teach love. He defined it by His life, death, patience, mercy, holiness, and sacrifice. The world uses the word love for nearly everything, until the word becomes soft enough to mean approval, sentiment, attraction, or kindness without truth. Scripture is not so vague.
    The love revealed in Christ is holy love. It does not excuse sin, flatter pride, or pretend darkness is light. Christ loved sinners without becoming careless about sin. He loved His disciples even when they were slow, fearful, argumentative, and full of misunderstanding. He washed feet. He bore reproach. He laid down His life.
    This is why Christian love cannot be reduced to being pleasant. A person may have a gentle voice and still be loveless. Another may speak firmly and yet love deeply. Biblical love is not mere temperament. It is the grace-shaped disposition of one who has been loved by Christ and is being conformed to Christ.
    Romans 5:8 (NKJV):
    3. The Darkness Is Passing Away
    John says the commandment is true “in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.” This is a statement about the age inaugurated by Christ. The coming of Jesus has not left the world as it was. The Light has entered. The darkness has been exposed. The kingdom of God has broken into history.
    John is not saying there is no darkness remaining. He is saying darkness no longer has the final word. The true Light is already shining. Christ has come. The gospel has gone forth. The Spirit has been given. The people of God now live between the victory already secured and the final glory still to come.
    This matters because Christian love is not merely private moral improvement. It is evidence that the new creation has already begun its work in us. When believers love one another in truth, patience, forgiveness, and sacrificial care, they bear witness that Christ’s light is not theory. It is shining in real people, in real churches, in real conflicts, in real obedience.
    4. Hatred as Darkness
    John gives no room for sentimental self-deception: “He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.” A bitter Christian is a contradiction John refuses to soften.
    This does not mean Christians never struggle with anger, grief, offense, disappointment, or painful memories. Scripture is honest about human injury. Some wounds are deep. Some betrayals leave scars. Forgiveness may involve a long obedience of returning again and again to the mercy of God. Love does not require pretending evil did not happen. It does not require trusting the untrustworthy or denying the need for justice, boundaries, discipline, or wisdom.
    But hatred is different. Hatred settles in. Hatred nurses injury as identity. Hatred wants the other person diminished, humiliated, or destroyed. Hatred enjoys the darkness while claiming to belong to the light.
    John’s concern is not that believers have no emotions. His concern is profession without transformation. The person who claims fellowship with God while clinging to hatred is not merely having a bad day. He is walking in contradiction to the God he claims to know.
    Ephesians 4:31–32 (NKJV):
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+4%3A31-32&version=NKJV
    5. Love as Evidence, Not Purchase
    John is not teaching that we earn salvation by loving others. Love does not purchase eternal life. Christ alone saves. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. Our obedience is never the foundation of our acceptance before God.
    But love is evidence of life. The root is grace; the fruit is love. Where Christ has given life, love begins to grow. Sometimes slowly. Sometimes painfully. Sometimes after much pruning. But it grows.
    This is why John speaks so bluntly. He is not interested in religious claims that have no moral evidence. Anyone can say, “I am in the light.” Anyone can use Christian words. Anyone can sing, attend, speak, post, teach, or debate. But John asks whether the claimed light has touched the heart.
    Love does not make us Christians. But the absence of love exposes a claim to Christianity as hollow. A lamp that gives no light may still be called a lamp, but the name does not overcome the darkness.
    6. Love and Abiding in the Light
    John says, “He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.” Love brings moral clarity. Hatred blinds; love steadies. Hatred distorts our judgment, our speech, our memory, our interpretation of others, and even our sense of God’s nearness. A hateful heart does not see straight.
    Love, by contrast, walks in the light. This does not mean love makes everything easy. Loving one another often requires patience with weakness, courage in truth-telling, humility in apology, and grace in forgiveness. Love may have to confront. Love may have to wait. Love may have to refuse gossip, suspicion, contempt, and the secret pleasure of seeing another stumble.
    But love does not stumble around in darkness pretending blindness is discernment. It walks where Christ walks. It moves toward the good of the brother or sister, not merely toward the satisfaction of the wounded self.
    Colossians 3:12–14 (NKJV):
    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Colossians+3%3A12-14&version=NKJV
    7. The Blindness of Bitterness
    John’s final warning is severe: the one who hates “does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.” Hatred does not merely damage relationships. It damages perception. It makes a person spiritually disoriented.
    This is one of sin’s great deceits. The bitter person often feels unusually clear-sighted. He sees everyone else’s failures. He remembers every slight. He can explain every reason for his resentment. He may even dress his bitterness in the language of principle, discernment, or justice. But John says hatred blinds.
    The danger is not only that hatred leads a person in the wrong direction. The danger is that hatred makes him confident while doing so. He walks in darkness and calls it wisdom. He stumbles and calls it strength. He refuses mercy and calls it righteousness.
    The Christian life cannot be lived that way. Christ has loved us too deeply, forgiven us too freely, and brought us too fully into the light for us to make peace with hatred.
    8. The Church as the Household of Love
    John’s words are personal, but they are not merely individual. He writes to the church. The command to love one another assumes life together among believers. Christianity is not a solitary arrangement between the individual soul and God while the church remains optional scenery.
    The local church is one of the places where this commandment becomes visible. Here people of different backgrounds, temperaments, histories, ages, cultures, and weaknesses are called to belong to one another in Christ. That is not always easy. In fact, it is often precisely there that love is tested.
    It is easy to love the idea of the church. It is harder to love actual Christians. Actual Christians interrupt, misunderstand, disappoint, need help, speak poorly, fail to notice, and sometimes wound. Yet these are the people Christ has purchased with His blood.
    To love the brethren is to love those whom Christ loves. It is to receive the family God has given, not merely the one we would have selected.
