• Many people know John 3:16, but the conversation does not stop there. In John 3:17-21, Jesus reveals the heart of the Gospel: He did not come into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

    https://youtu.be/yilvkDn5v_0

In this message, Patrick looks at the powerful truth that Jesus came as our Rescuer, Redeemer, and Savior. Humanity was already lost in sin, already separated from God, and already in need of rescue. But God, in His great love and mercy, sent His only Son so that we could be saved, forgiven, restored, and made whole.

This sermon walks through three important truths from John 3:17-21:

**1. Jesus Came to Save, Not Condemn**
Jesus did not come to create a problem; He came because there already was one. Sin separated mankind from God, but Christ came to rescue sinners and offer salvation through His sacrifice on the cross.

**2. Every Person Must Choose What to Do With Jesus**
Eternity is divided by one question: What have you done with Jesus Christ? Biblical faith is more than knowing facts about Jesus. True saving faith means trusting Him, relying on Him, surrendering to Him, and receiving Him as Lord and Savior.

**3. The Light Reveals What Is In Our Hearts**
Jesus is the Light of the world. His truth exposes what darkness tries to hide. Some reject the Light because they love darkness, but those who belong to God come to the Light, confess sin, repent, and walk in obedience.

This message is a reminder that the Gospel demands a response. Jesus came to save. The invitation is open. The Light is shining. Will you come to Christ?

    **Reflection Questions:**
Have you trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior?
Are there areas of darkness you are refusing to bring into the light?
Is your life moving closer to Christ or further from Him?

Jesus did not come to condemn you. He came to save you. Come to the Light. Come to Christ. Discover the grace, forgiveness, and new life that only He can give.

  • THE PREMISE OF CHRISTIANITY

(Google Docs link provided at the end and in the comment for clickable Bible citations to open your Bible App for a fluid study experience)

In a simple sentence, the foundation of Christianity is that Jesus Christ came to save mankind from sin and death. But you may ask, what does that mean exactly? So let's break it down a bit.

Sin is simply the violation of God's commands. By the way God created and owns everything (Gen 1:1, Isaiah 45:18, Psa 24:1, [Heb 11:3 - the present scientific theory on creation sounds a lot like this Passage in that the material universe spontaneously came out of NOTHING (i.e. the invisible), in other words ā€œquantum nothingnessā€. Furthermore, etymologically speaking ā€˜uni’-ā€˜verse’ simply means ā€œone spoken stanzaā€, and this takes us back to God’s utterances in Genesis 1]).

So God owns everything, and by His right, He gave mankind guidelines on how we were to interact with His property. Violation of any of His guidelines is called sin, and this in turn damages His property. When we sin we are either hurting ourselves or others physically, emotionally or spiritually; or we're hurting the rest of creation: the animals (Deut 22:6-7, 25:4), plants and the land (Lev 25:3-7, 18-23, [Num 35:33, Lev 18:24-28]), which we were meant to take care of (Gen 2:8, *15*, Prov 12:10). God cares about His property, both human and animal (Jonah 4:11, Col 1:23). God's commands may not make much sense to us, nevertheless it is the Creators manual, and He knows far more about the intricacies of our being and all of creation than we could ever know.

Think of it this way, a manufacturer generally provides the instruction manual for their product. They know the ins and outs of their product better than the average user. Their manual shows you how to use the product, what to do and NOT do. If you violate the instructions you risk damaging the product, and possibly getting injured in the process.

So God owns everything (Psa 24:1, 50:9-12, Rom 11:35-36), but He put us in charge to steward it; so in a sense He rented it to us, and we're pilgrims on His property – earth (Gen 1:26, [Lev 25:23, Heb 11:13-16]).

But we decided to sin and rebel against God's instructions, and that caused damage to His property, for which we were responsible (Rom 5:12, 8:19-22, Isaiah 5:1-2, 7, *Eccl 7:29*). So we owe Him restitution for the damages, which we CANNOT pay.

And this is where Jesus Christ stepped in. Jesus Christ paid the price and the consequences of our sin. This said price was long defined by God, even before Adam sinned, and that price was DEATH (Gen 2:16-17, Rom 6:23). Hence, Jesus Christ had to taste death on all our behalf (Isaiah 53:4-12, Heb 2:9, Rom 6:3-14).

What is DEATH? Universally speaking, death simply means SEPARATION, and I'd briefly prove it.

Man is composed of three aspects. The body of earth, which God formed; the spirit, which God breathed into the body; and the soul, the governing agency, which was birthed by the union of the spirit and body:

    Gen 2:7 KJV
And the LORD God FORMED man of the DUST OF THE GROUND, and breathed into his nostrils THE BREATH OF LIFE [Job 33:4, 32:8]; and man became a LIVING SOUL.

When a person physically dies, the spirit SEPARATES from the body and returns to God, while the body returns to the ground (Eccl 12:7, Gen 3:19); and the soul, which is the governing agency of your being, is the part that must give account to God and face His judgment (Mark 8:34-38). So physical death is basically the SEPARATION of the components of our being. Rest assured that after we die physically God has prepared for us an eternal body that is no longer subject to death (1 Cor 15:42-58).

But of particular concern is the spiritual death, which entails SEPARATION from God as a result of our sins. This is primarily what Jesus Christ came to remedy:

    Isaiah 59:1-2 NIV
[1] Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save... [2] But your INIQUITIES have SEPARATED you from your God; your sins have hidden His Face from you...

    Ephesians 2:4-5 NIV
[4] But because of His great LOVE for us, God… [5] MADE US ALIVE WITH CHRIST even when WE WERE DEAD IN TRANSGRESSIONS—it is by Grace you have been saved.

Jesus Christ brought about RECONCILIATION between mankind and God, thus ending the SEPARATION (death) and bringing us into eternal life, which is knowledge and fellowship with the Living God (John 17:3, [John 6:53-58 – CommUNION, which this Passage refers to, is antithetical to SEPARATION, and it denotes fellowship and oneness with the Lord, thus this is life]). And Jesus Christ has as well commissioned us to preach this Gospel of RECONCILIATION to bring others into fellowship and CommUNION with God (2 Cor 5:17-21).

So this is the foundational pillar of Christianity: Jesus Christ paid for the sins of mankind and provided access to the Father for WHOEVER that would REPENT and call on His Name (Romans 10:9-13, 1 Tim 2:3-6, 2 Tim 2:19, Eph 3:11-12).
