• Daily Devotion — July 9 | Acts 8:20 (NKJV)

    Grace Cannot Be Bought

Simon attempted to buy the power of the Holy Spirit from the apostles. Peter strongly rebuked him because God's gifts are given by grace, not earned through wealth or human effort.

Salvation, forgiveness, and spiritual blessings come only through God's mercy. No amount of money, achievement, or good works can purchase what God freely gives through Christ.

This passage challenges believers to examine their motives. God desires sincere hearts that seek Him for who He is, not merely for what He can provide.

True faith rests in God's grace and responds with gratitude and worship.

    Reflection Questions

    1. Do I fully understand God's grace

    2. What motivates my relationship with God

    3. Am I relying on God's mercy rather than my own efforts

    Prayer

Lord God, thank You for Your free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Help me to trust completely in Your grace and worship You with a sincere heart. In Jesus name Amen.

    Practical Application

    ● Thank God daily for His grace

    ● Examine your motives in serving God

    ● Share the message of salvation with others

    Takeaway Thought

God's greatest gifts are received through grace, not earned.

  • Don’t Deceive Yourself

Self-deception is one of the most dangerous spiritual conditions because it blinds a person while convincing them they see clearly.

Many people are sincere, active, and religious—yet spiritually deceived.

Scripture repeatedly warns believers not about deceiving others, but about deceiving themselves.

This sermon is a call to honest self-examination under the light of God’s Word.

    1. SELF-DECEPTION IS A REAL SPIRITUAL DANGER

James 1:22 — “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

    You can:

Hear the Word and still be deceived

Know the truth and still live a lie

Be in church and be far from God

Spiritual exposure without obedience produces illusion, not transformation.

Key truth: Hearing without doing creates false confidence.

    2. RELIGIOUS ACTIVITY IS NOT THE SAME AS OBEDIENCE

    Matthew 7:21–23
Many will say, “Lord, Lord,” but Jesus responds, “I never knew you.”
They prophesied, cast out devils, and worked miracles—yet lived in disobedience.

    Warning:

    Gifts do not replace character

    Ministry does not replace intimacy

    Activity does not replace obedience

You can function publicly and still fail privately.

    3. SELF-DECEPTION OFTEN COMES THROUGH WRONG MEASURES

    2 Corinthians 10:12
Comparing ourselves among ourselves leads to deception.

    We deceive ourselves when:

We measure holiness by people, not Scripture

We excuse sin because “others are doing worse”

    We justify compromise with culture

Proverbs 14:12 — “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

What “feels right” is not always “God-approved.”

    4. YOU CANNOT MOCK GOD THROUGH SELF-DECEPTION

Galatians 6:7–8 — “Be not deceived; God is not mocked…”

    Self-deception does not deceive God.

    God sees motives

    God weighs hearts

    God judges truthfully

What you sow in secret, you will reap openly.

    5. THE WORD OF GOD IS THE CURE FOR SELF-DECEPTION

    Hebrews 4:12

    The Word:

    Discerns motives

    Exposes hypocrisy

    Separates truth from assumption

    Psalm 139:23–24
“Search me, O God… and see if there be any wicked way in me.”

Deliverance begins when you allow God to search you.

    6. SIGNS YOU MAY BE DECEIVING YOURSELF

You defend sin instead of repenting

    You resist correction

You quote Scripture but ignore conviction

You blame others for personal disobedience

You are comfortable with spiritual stagnation

1 Corinthians 3:18 — “Let no man deceive himself.”

    CONCLUSION

Self-deception is subtle, progressive, and dangerous—but it is curable.

God does not expose us to shame us, but to save us. The goal is not condemnation, but true repentance, alignment, and transformation.

2 Corinthians 13:5 — “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith…”

    CALL TO RESPONSE
    Pray sincerely:

“Lord, remove every false assurance. Align my life with Your truth. Deliver me from self-deception, and make me a doer of Your Word.”

  • How Do We Discern the Presence of the Holy Spirit in the Body?
To fully grasp the presence of the Holy Spirit in the body, we must first understand that the Holy Spirit dwells within the human soul. Because humans are an integrated unity of body and soul, the Spirit’s presence extends from the soul to the body. This unity implies that the way the Spirit interacts with the soul is also reflected in the body. Here’s how the Holy Spirit's presence in the soul manifests in the body:
•In Perception: The Holy Spirit enlightens our understanding by opening the eyes of our soul to perceive spiritual truths. This divine insight allows us to see beyond the physical world and grasp the deeper, often hidden, realities of God's kingdom. This spiritual perception transforms our view of the world and guides us toward truth and understanding.
•In the Heart: The Holy Spirit fills our heart with a fervent love for Jesus. This love is characterized by a profound attachment and commitment, even in the face of trials or threats. The Spirit ensures that our devotion remains steadfast, regardless of life's challenges, and sustains our love for Christ through difficult circumstances.
•In the Will: The Holy Spirit influences our will, prompting us to engage in prayer, self-denial, and active love for Jesus. This guidance helps us to live with a hopeful expectation of future glory and to act with a purpose aligned with God's will. The Spirit’s influence directs our choices and actions, driving us to live in a way that reflects our faith and hope in God's promises.
