“Possible Deaths Of Those Who Refuse The Mark Of The Beast During The Great Tribulation”

This is not meant to glorify violence.

It is meant to confront you with the terrifying seriousness of what Scripture describes concerning the Great Tribulation, the beast, the mark, persecution, judgment, and hell.

There is one important distinction that must be understood.

The Bible does not say that every person who refuses the mark will necessarily die by the exact methods pictured in this image. These are illustrations of possible forms of persecution and execution.

But Scripture DOES explicitly teach that the beast will demand worship, that the mark will be connected with allegiance to the beast, that economic restrictions will be imposed, and that those who refuse the beast will face deadly persecution.

And this is where the subject becomes brutally serious.

Revelation 13:15 KJV says:

“And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.”

Read that again.

“SHOULD BE KILLED.”

This is not merely inconvenience.

This is not being mocked.

This is not losing followers.

This is not being cancelled.

This is not getting fired.

This is not somebody disagreeing with your religion.

The prophecy describes a system where refusal to worship the beast can result in death.

The world can threaten your comfort.

The world can threaten your career.

The world can threaten your possessions.

The world can threaten your freedom.

But eventually the question becomes much darker:

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE WORLD THREATENS YOUR LIFE?

Will you bow because you are afraid to die?

Will you compromise because you are afraid to suffer?

Will you surrender because obedience to evil becomes easier than faithfulness to God?

That is the kind of pressure Revelation warns about.

Revelation 13:16 KJV says:

“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads”

Then Revelation 13:17 KJV says:

“And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

Think about the pressure.

No mark.

No ordinary buying.

No ordinary selling.

No normal economic participation.

The pressure will not merely be physical.

It will be economic.

Social.

Political.

Religious.

Personal.

You could be surrounded by people telling you that refusing the mark is foolish.

You could be told that accepting it is necessary for survival.

You could be told that everyone else is doing it.

You could be threatened with poverty.

You could be threatened with imprisonment.

You could be threatened with torture.

You could be threatened with death.

And eventually the issue becomes allegiance.

WHO DO YOU WORSHIP?

WHO DO YOU OBEY?

WHO WILL YOU REFUSE TO DENY?

And here comes an extremely important distinction concerning salvation during that prophetic period.

The present dispensation of grace is not to be confused with the prophetic conditions Scripture describes concerning the beast and his mark.

The salvation message and prophetic circumstances must be handled according to the passages being discussed.

In the present age, Scripture plainly teaches salvation by grace through faith, not by works.

Ephesians 2:8 KJV says:

“For by grace are ye saved through faith”

And Ephesians 2:9 KJV says:

“Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

That is unmistakable.

But when Revelation describes the Great Tribulation, the issue surrounding the beast and his mark becomes radically different.

Revelation does not present the mark as an innocent action that somebody can take while continuing to worship God.

The mark is connected directly with worship and allegiance to the beast.

Revelation 14:9 KJV says:

“If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand”

Notice the connection.

WORSHIP.

THE BEAST.

THE IMAGE.

THE MARK.

ALLEGIANCE.

Then comes the terrifying warning.

Revelation 14:10 KJV says:

“The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God”

And Revelation 14:11 KJV says:

“And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night”

FOR EVER AND EVER.

NO REST.

DAY NOR NIGHT.

This is why the idea of “easy salvation” during the mark of the beast period must be rejected as a careless way of presenting those passages.

A person cannot simply say:

“I believe in God, but I will receive the mark of the beast anyway.”

The Revelation passages do not permit that kind of casual separation between belief and allegiance.

If someone knowingly worships the beast and receives his mark, Scripture gives an extremely severe warning concerning that person.

The mark is not presented as a neutral transaction.

It is connected with worship.

It is connected with allegiance.

It is connected with rebellion against God.

Therefore, in the prophetic context of the Great Tribulation, the Scriptures describe a form of endurance and faithfulness that continues even when obedience to God costs earthly life.

This is why Revelation 14:12 KJV says:

“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”

PATIENT ENDURANCE.

FAITHFULNESS.

PERSEVERANCE.

REFUSING THE BEAST.

REFUSING HIS WORSHIP.

REFUSING HIS MARK.

EVEN WHEN THE COST IS DEATH.

That is brutally different from the idea that somebody can deliberately worship the beast, receive his mark, and simply assume that faith makes the decision irrelevant.

THE TEXT DOES NOT GIVE THAT COMFORT.

Revelation 20:4 KJV says:

“And I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast”

Why were they beheaded?

Because they refused.

Why did they suffer?

Because they refused.

Why did they die?

Because they refused.

They would rather lose their earthly lives than surrender their allegiance.

And here is the brutal truth:

THEIR FAITH WAS NOT A CHEAP WORD.

THEIR FAITH WAS TESTED UNDER EXTREME PRESSURE.

THEIR ALLEGIANCE WAS NOT MERELY A SENTENCE THEY SPOKE.

THEIR PERSEVERANCE WAS DEMONSTRATED BY THEIR REFUSAL TO WORSHIP THE BEAST.

This is why it is dangerous to take the language of “faith alone” from the present dispensation and carelessly force it into every prophetic passage without considering the specific context of Revelation.

The present age of grace must be distinguished from the prophetic program concerning Israel, the beast, the mark, and the Great Tribulation.

During the Great Tribulation, Revelation describes people who must endure persecution and refuse the beast and his mark.

The issue becomes so severe that Revelation 13:10 KJV says:

“Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.”

And Revelation 12:11 KJV says:

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony”

Then comes the brutal statement:

“And they loved not their lives unto the death.”

THEY LOVED NOT THEIR LIVES UNTO THE DEATH.

That means earthly survival was not their highest priority.

They understood something that modern comfort addicted Christianity desperately needs to understand:

LIVING IS NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN BEING FAITHFUL TO GOD.

A person can preserve his body and lose everything that matters eternally.

A person can lose his body and remain faithful.

A person can lose his possessions and keep his testimony.

A person can lose his freedom and refuse to bow.

A person can lose his earthly life and refuse the mark.

But there is something infinitely more terrifying than an execution chamber.

HELL.

Hell is worse than the flames pictured in this image.

Hell is worse than torture.

Hell is worse than starvation.

Hell is worse than imprisonment.

Hell is worse than persecution.

Hell is worse than earthly death.

Why?

Because earthly suffering has an end.

The judgment of God is another matter entirely.

Matthew 10:28 KJV says:

“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul”

Then Christ says:

“But rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

THERE IT IS.

HELL.

The world tells you to fear people.

Christ tells you to understand the greater reality.

Human beings can kill the body.

Human beings can torture the body.

Human beings can imprison the body.

Human beings can destroy earthly possessions.

But God remains the Judge of eternity.

And this is why Revelation 14 is so terrifying.

The beast can threaten your body.

The beast can threaten your livelihood.

The beast can threaten your freedom.

The beast can threaten your family.

The beast can threaten your life.

BUT THE BEAST DOES NOT HAVE THE FINAL WORD.

GOD DOES.

Revelation 14:9 KJV warns:

“If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand”

And verse 10 says:

“The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God”

That warning is deliberately severe.

There is no casual language here.

There is no suggestion that worshipping the beast is harmless.

There is no suggestion that receiving his mark is spiritually irrelevant.

There is no suggestion that somebody can deliberately identify himself with the beast and then mock the consequences.

The warning is terrifying because the rebellion is terrifying.

HELL IS NOT A JOKE.

HELL IS NOT A FAIRY TALE.

HELL IS NOT A RELIGIOUS INSULT.

HELL IS NOT SOMETHING TO LAUGH ABOUT.

HELL IS A WARNING.

And the Bible repeatedly warns about judgment because eternity is too serious for comfortable lies.

Matthew 24:21 KJV says:

“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

Great tribulation.

Not ordinary trouble.

Not ordinary persecution.

Not an ordinary war.

Great tribulation.

And Matthew 24:22 KJV says:

“And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved”

Think about the severity of those words.

Christ Himself described that period as unprecedented.

The suffering will be extraordinary.

The deception will be extraordinary.

The persecution will be extraordinary.

The pressure will be extraordinary.

And Revelation describes saints standing firm in the middle of it.

That is why Revelation 13:7 KJV says:

“And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them”

MAKE WAR.

Not debate.

Not disagreement.

Not a theological argument.

WAR.

And the brutal reality is that some of those saints will be killed.

Revelation 20:4 KJV says:

“And I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus”

They died because they refused to surrender their testimony.

They died because they refused to worship the beast.

They died because they refused to identify themselves with the beast.

They died because they refused the mark.

And that brings us back to the terrifying issue of works and faith during that prophetic period.

Do not confuse this with saying that human works can purchase the righteousness of God.

Works cannot purchase salvation.

Human effort cannot buy forgiveness.

Religious performance cannot force God to save somebody.

But the prophetic passages concerning the beast show that the professed faith of those saints is demonstrated through their endurance and their refusal to worship the beast or receive his mark.

In other words:

THEIR FAITH IS NOT BEING PRESENTED AS A CHEAP, EMPTY CLAIM.

THEIR FAITH IS BEING DEMONSTRATED THROUGH THEIR FAITHFUL ENDURANCE.

They do not merely say they believe.

They refuse the beast.

They refuse his worship.

They refuse his mark.

They endure persecution.

They remain faithful even unto death.

And Scripture gives them the name:

SAINTS.

This is why the Great Tribulation cannot be reduced to the slogan:

“Believe anything you want and the mark will not matter.”

The mark matters.

The worship matters.

The allegiance matters.

The endurance matters.

The refusal matters.

The consequences matter.

And hell matters.

Revelation 14:11 KJV says:

“And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night”

FOR EVER AND EVER.

NO REST.

DAY NOR NIGHT.

Do not water that down.

Do not turn it into entertainment.

Do not transform Revelation into a horror movie.

The Bible is warning you.

And the warning is brutal because the reality is brutal.

A human execution can end physical suffering.

HELL DOES NOT FIT INTO THE SAME CATEGORY.

A bullet can end a life.

A sword can end a life.

Fire can destroy a body.

A rope can end breathing.

A guillotine can end physical life.

Torture can destroy the body.

But none of these earthly horrors should make a person forget the far greater seriousness of eternal judgment.

The world may say:

“Take the mark and live.”

But Scripture warns:

DO NOT TRADE ETERNAL CONSEQUENCES FOR TEMPORARY SURVIVAL.

The world may say:

“Everyone is doing it.”

DO NOT FOLLOW THE CROWD INTO REBELLION.

The world may say:

“You will starve without it.”

DO NOT SELL YOUR ALLEGIANCE FOR FOOD.

The world may say:

“You will die without it.”

DO NOT ASSUME EARTHLY DEATH IS WORSE THAN HELL.

The world may threaten your body.

But God remains the Judge of eternity.

That is the brutality of the warning.

And here is another brutal truth:

PRESSURE DOES NOT CREATE CHARACTER.

PRESSURE REVEALS CHARACTER.

When obedience costs nothing, everyone can pretend to be faithful.

But when obedience costs your livelihood, your reputation, your freedom, or your life, the reality of your allegiance is exposed.

This is why Revelation presents the saints as enduring.

They are not being tested by convenience.

They are being tested by persecution.

They are being tested by death.

They are being tested by a system that demands worship.

And they refuse.

The devil does not always need to destroy you immediately.

Sometimes he only needs to teach you to compromise.

Compromise your convictions.

Compromise your conscience.

Compromise your worship.

Compromise your obedience.

Compromise once.

Then compromise again.

Then eventually you no longer recognize the person who originally said:

“I will never bow.”

That is why Daniel 7:25 KJV says:

“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High”

WEAR OUT.

Pressure.

Fear.

Exhaustion.

Persecution.

Economic restriction.

Social hatred.

Violence.

Death.

The objective is surrender.

But Revelation shows saints who refuse.

And here is the most brutal part:

YOU CAN LOSE YOUR EARTHLY LIFE AND STILL REFUSE TO LOSE YOUR TESTIMONY.

YOU CAN LOSE YOUR HEAD AND STILL KEEP YOUR FAITH.

YOU CAN LOSE EVERYTHING THIS WORLD VALUES AND STILL REFUSE TO WORSHIP THE BEAST.

BUT DO NOT PRESUME THAT RECEIVING THE MARK IS A SMALL MATTER.

Revelation does not present it that way.

Revelation 14 presents the mark together with worship of the beast and the wrath of God.

That is why the warning is so severe.

And that is why anyone teaching a careless “easy salvation” message concerning the mark of the beast is ignoring the terrifying warnings of Revelation.

Again, this does not mean that human works can purchase salvation from God.

It means that in the prophetic context, Scripture describes genuine allegiance to God through persevering faithfulness under persecution, including refusing the beast and his mark.

The saints are not saved because their suffering earns a price from God.

Their endurance demonstrates where their allegiance stands.

Their refusal demonstrates that they will not worship the beast.

Their perseverance demonstrates that they will not surrender.

Their death demonstrates that earthly survival was not more valuable to them than faithfulness to God.

And Revelation 12:11 KJV says:

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony”

Then:

“And they loved not their lives unto the death.”

THAT IS NOT EASY BELIEF.

THAT IS FAITH UNDER FIRE.

THAT IS FAITH UNDER PERSECUTION.

THAT IS FAITH UNDER THREAT OF DEATH.

THAT IS FAITH THAT REFUSES TO BOW.

And if someone says:

“I have faith, so I can receive the mark anyway”

Revelation gives no comfort for that attitude.

Because the mark is not presented as a meaningless stamp.

It is associated with worship and allegiance to the beast.

And the warning is terrifying.

HELL.

WRATH.

JUDGMENT.

TORMENT.

ETERNITY.

Revelation 20:14 KJV says:

“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.”

And Revelation 20:15 KJV says:

“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

The lake of fire.

Hell.

Judgment.

Eternity.

These are not words to use casually.

These are not words to soften.

These are not words to hide.

They are warnings.

And that is why this image should not merely make you think:

“How horrible those deaths look.”

It should make you think:

“HOW SERIOUS IS ETERNITY?”

Burned alive?

Terrifying.

Beheaded?

Terrifying.

Shot?

Terrifying.

Beaten to death?

Terrifying.

Hanged?

Terrifying.

Guillotined?

Terrifying.

Starved?

Terrifying.

Tortured?

Terrifying.

Executed?

Terrifying.

But the Bible warns of something even more terrifying than earthly suffering.

THE WRATH OF GOD.

THE JUDGMENT OF GOD.

THE LAKE OF FIRE.

HELL.

ETERNITY.

And the beast?

The beast is not God.

The beast is not eternal.

The beast is not sovereign.

The beast is not the final authority.

The beast has an appointed end.

Revelation 19:20 KJV says:

“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet”

The one who terrorizes the earth will not reign forever.

The one who demands worship will not reign forever.

The one who persecutes the saints will not reign forever.

The one who threatens death will eventually face the Judge.

EVIL HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE.

GOD DOES NOT.

The beast may have authority for a season.

God has eternal authority.

The beast may control commerce.

God controls eternity.

The beast may threaten death.

God controls judgment.

The beast may terrify nations.

God remains King.

And when the final judgment comes, nobody will care how powerful the beast once appeared.

Because earthly power is temporary.

God is eternal.

So look at this image again.

Look at the fire.

Look at the weapons.

Look at the chains.

Look at the suffering.

Look at the executions.

Then look beyond them.

Look beyond the body.

Look beyond the pain.

Look beyond the blood.

Look beyond the grave.

THINK ABOUT ETERNITY.

Because the greatest tragedy is not simply dying brutally.

The greatest tragedy is facing the judgment of God unprepared.

The greatest tragedy is treating Scripture like entertainment.

The greatest tragedy is laughing at hell.

The greatest tragedy is exchanging eternal consequences for temporary comfort.

And the brutal message of Revelation is this:

THE BEAST MAY SAY BOW OR DIE.

BUT GOD SAYS THAT EARTHLY DEATH IS NOT THE FINAL REALITY.

THE BEAST MAY SAY TAKE THE MARK OR STARVE.

BUT GOD REMAINS THE JUDGE OF ETERNITY.

THE BEAST MAY SAY WORSHIP ME OR SUFFER.

BUT GOD ALONE IS WORTHY OF WORSHIP.

THE BEAST MAY CONTROL THE MARKET.

BUT GOD CONTROLS THE FINAL JUDGMENT.

THE BEAST MAY HAVE ARMIES.

BUT GOD HAS ALL AUTHORITY.

THE BEAST MAY THREATEN YOUR BODY.

BUT GOD REMAINS THE JUDGE OF ETERNITY.

And that is why the warning must be taken seriously.

Not tomorrow.

Not after the tribulation begins.

Not after the beast appears.

Not after the mark becomes mandatory.

The warning is being given beforehand.

Because once that prophetic crisis arrives, the consequences will be terrifying.

Do not romanticize the Great Tribulation.

Do not treat Revelation like a horror movie.

Do not reduce the mark of the beast to a casual conspiracy discussion.

Do not assume that receiving the mark is spiritually harmless.

Do not assume that a profession of faith makes deliberate allegiance to the beast irrelevant.

Revelation does not present that kind of easy escape.

Instead, Revelation presents saints who endure.

Saints who refuse.

Saints who remain faithful.

Saints who refuse worship of the beast.

Saints who refuse his mark.

Saints who love not their lives unto the death.

And then Revelation gives the terrifying warning concerning those who worship the beast and receive his mark.

That is why hell must be spoken about plainly.

HELL IS REAL.

JUDGMENT IS REAL.

THE WRATH OF GOD IS REAL.

THE LAKE OF FIRE IS REAL.

ETERNITY IS REAL.

And when the final judgment comes, nobody will be impressed by earthly status.

Hell will not care about your money.

Hell will not care about your followers.

Hell will not care about your career.

Hell will not care about your political position.

Hell will not care about your reputation.

Hell will not care about how comfortable you were.

Eternity will expose everything.

The world can teach you to fear death.

Scripture teaches you to understand eternity.

The world can teach you to protect your body at any cost.

Scripture teaches you that allegiance to God is more important than temporary comfort.

The world can tell you:

“Bow and live.”

But Revelation warns that there are things you must refuse even when refusal costs your life.

Because earthly life is temporary.

Earthly possessions are temporary.

Earthly power is temporary.

Earthly comfort is temporary.

Earthly suffering is temporary.

But eternity is not temporary.

And hell is not something to laugh away.

So remember the brutal distinction:

IN THIS PRESENT AGE, SALVATION IS BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH, NOT BY HUMAN WORKS.

BUT THE GREAT TRIBULATION PASSAGES CONCERNING THE BEAST DESCRIBE A DIFFERENT PROPHETIC CONTEXT IN WHICH FAITHFULNESS IS DEMONSTRATED THROUGH PERSEVERANCE, REFUSING THE BEAST, REFUSING HIS WORSHIP, AND REFUSING HIS MARK EVEN UNTO DEATH.

Do not confuse the two contexts.

Do not use the grace message as an excuse to make Revelation 14 meaningless.

Do not turn the mark of the beast into something spiritually harmless.

Do not preach a version of prophecy where somebody can worship the beast, receive his mark, and simply shrug while claiming that faith makes the warning irrelevant.

Revelation does not speak that way.

The warning is severe.

The consequences are severe.

The judgment is severe.

HELL IS SEVERE.

And eternity is too serious for comfortable lies.

The question during that terrifying prophetic period will not merely be:

“Do you claim to believe?”

The question will be:

“WHO WILL YOU WORSHIP?”

“WHO WILL YOU OBEY?”

“WILL YOU RECEIVE THE MARK?”

“WILL YOU BOW?”

“WILL YOU ENDURE?”

“WILL YOU REMAIN FAITHFUL?”

Because when the world demands:

BOW OR DIE

the Scriptures reveal saints who choose:

I WOULD RATHER DIE THAN WORSHIP THE BEAST.

And that is the brutal warning.

EARTHLY DEATH HAS AN END.

HELL IS WORSE.

EARTHLY SUFFERING HAS AN END.

THE JUDGMENT OF GOD IS ETERNAL.

THE BEAST HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE.

GOD DOES NOT.

THE MARK MAY CONTROL YOUR ECONOMIC LIFE.

BUT IT CANNOT CONTROL THE THRONE OF GOD.

THE BEAST MAY THREATEN YOUR BODY.

BUT HE CANNOT BECOME YOUR GOD.

THE WORLD MAY THREATEN YOUR LIFE.

BUT ETERNITY STILL BELONGS TO GOD.

So look at the image.

Look at the fire.

Look at the torture.

Look at the executions.

And then remember the warning:

DO NOT EXCHANGE ETERNAL CONSEQUENCES FOR TEMPORARY SURVIVAL.

DO NOT BOW TO EVIL BECAUSE YOU ARE AFRAID TO DIE.

DO NOT TREAT THE MARK OF THE BEAST AS A HARMLESS DECISION.

DO NOT LAUGH AT REVELATION.

DO NOT LAUGH AT HELL.

DO NOT LAUGH AT JUDGMENT.

Because one day the warning will no longer be merely a warning.

And when eternity arrives, there will be no negotiation.

No bargaining.

No bribery.

No hiding.

No escape from the Judge.

HELL IS NOT A PUNCHLINE.

HELL IS NOT ENTERTAINMENT.

HELL IS NOT MYTHOLOGY.

HELL IS A WARNING.

And Revelation gives that warning because eternity is too important for silence.

Matthew 14:1-13

Matthew 14 opens with the explanation of why Herod had John the Baptist beheaded at a feast. The rumors of miracles being performed, the dead being raised has Herod thinking back on the forced execution of John the Baptizer.

John had been imprisoned for approaching Herod and rebuking him for stealing his brother's wife. Understand this, John knew that taking this stand would result in his death. And at a party where Herod was content with leaving John locked up forever, but his manipulative new wife was anything but content. She wanted blood.

So she manipulated her daughter, likely Herod's niece into dancing seductively for her new stepfather, the king. She was promised in a moment of hubris on Herod's part anything her heart desired. And with one consultation with her mother, she asked for the head of John the Baptist on a platter.

And despite his fear of John's followers, he listened to his wife, which honestly is the source of many a man's downfall. It is this depiction of his execution that the producers of the Chosen have brought to life the tragedy and hope John the Baptist had at his time of death.
I encourage you to watch that scene if you haven't already. As he is led to the chopping block, the wry grin on his face as he says, “I've never been to a banquet.” And as he kneels to see the lamb in front of the setting sun as the axe falls, the irony of his first banquet being his last is felt.

The actor captures all of that emotion with a look. He is amazing. When you watch, remember, this is the man Jesus said was the greatest man alive. Fortunately, not all believers are called to die for their faith but we are all expected to do so if it comes to it. So will we approach our end with the same faith John had?

We can only pray that we would remain faithful with His strength. We can only in these times do as he did and look to the lamb. And maybe, with this faith, look forward to the banquet we will be welcomed to when we open our eyes in death the first time.

*THE MESSAGE:*
Spiritual blindness is the inability to see and understand spiritual matters. According to today's text, Satan is responsible for blinding the hearts of unbelievers against the truth of the Gospel of Christ. They do not only oppose the gospel message but reject and deny the servants of Christ any opportunity to preach. Spiritual understanding comes when we encounter Christ. It is only then that one can see and appreciate the things of God. In our time, there are many people, even in our churches, who are spiritually blind, like Saul, who was killing Christians thinking he was serving God until the scales of blindness fell off his eyes (Acts 9:18). Today, Christians are being beheaded by Jihadists, Fulani herdsmen, Bandits, and Boko Haram in the name of religion. What spiritual blindness! So, do not be like them.

*HANDLING INCOMPATIBLE LIFE PARTNER THROUGH GOD SENT MINISTRY PARTNER*

*TEXT:* EXODUS 4:24-31.

24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.
25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
27 And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.
28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.
29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:

*INTRODUCTION*

What a pain, what a clog in the wheel of progress, what a frustration, what a limitation and what a life of unfulfilled dreams when someone gets entangled with an incompatible life partner in marriage? What a joy, what a pleasure, what a fulfilment in life and what an accelerated progress when a saint is fortunate to get a compatible life partner and a God sent ministry life partner. Moses had a shave of what it means to marry someone who was not compatible with his life and ministry. However, he was comforted and divinely assisted by getting a compatible ministry partner who happened to be the elder brother , Aaron. We might be tempted to excuse Moses that he had no choice than to marry a Gentile contrary to the command of God to Israelites. He should take full responsibility. His case was the case of one miss step or mistake leading to another. He had never met God personally and by experience as of then. Yet he decided to force himself into the service of God without any personal encounter with God. He eventually had to run away and hide himself for 40 years due to self management. He eventually, got involved in a marriage that might appear he had no choice. Fortunately, what he lacked in marriage, he was able to correct and make up in ministry. He encountered God and heard his voice and was guided as to who his ministry partner should be. If he had missed that too, he would have well forgotten about his ministry in life. His getting it right in the ministry partnership helped him to stand above the storms of wrong and incompatible marriage. John Wesley and Apostle Joseph Babalola are among the witnesses that joined Moses telling us that an incompatible partner in marriage is extremely painful, but no one should allow that to be an excuse for not being what God wanted him to be in life and ministry.

*1. Divine Intolerance for Profanity*

a. The command of God on circumcision is the issue here. Circumcision of every male born child in Israel was a confirmation and seal of the covenant of God with Abraham and his seed.
*"Every man child among you shall be circumcised... And the uncircumcised man child... that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant"* (Genesis 17:10-14). Refusal to circumcise the male child or be circumcised was profanity and there was always divine anger on such lack of irreverence for the command and things of God. Breaking any law of God that is connected to God's irrevocable covenant of blessings always attract divine hot displeasure because it is both disrespectful to God and a foolish self rejection of God's blessings attached to the covenant. *"And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him"*.
b. Esau was accused of being profane because he despised divine blessings and rejected his double blessings of being the first born. God was angry at him for his carelessness with his birthright. *"Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward... he was rejected... though he sought it carefully with tears"* (Hebrews 12:16,17). God refused to overlook his profanity. The blessings of the firstborn in the Old Testament are akin to the blessing of salvation in the New Testament. Any saint who refuses to appreciate and jealously keeps his blessing and experience of salvation is a profane person and will definitely incur the wrath of God in this world and in the world to come. Gambling with any of the given gifts of God and gifts of grace will definitely invite the wrath of God and getting the divine blessings back will not be easy.

*2. Danger of Incompatible Partners*

a. Moses put himself in a very difficult situation that made it difficult for him to marry an Israelite. He ended up marrying a woman that was a stranger to the covenant of Abraham. There are those who have married incompatible wives before they knew the Lord or His will. Such simply married according to sight since they had no relationship with God then. Zipporah could not understand how Moses would want to inflict a painful circumcision on her loved son. The woman had to yield by force when she saw the Angel of God appeared to kill Moses. Reluctantly, *Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me"*. The attitude of the woman showed that Moses might not have told her or succeeded in convincing her of the sacredness and importance of circumcision. Or does it mean Moses told her, but the woman rejected outright?
b. There is danger for those who just pick up somebody to marry other than praying to know the will of God and marrying a covenant person that also have a personal experience with God. First the sacred laws of God would be despised by those people like Zipporah despised the law of circumcision. Consecration to God and fulfillment of God's purpose for the believing spouse would be judged by the unbelieving as too high and even as foolishness. As a result, rather than supporting the man or woman of destiny, the partner would be a hindrance and a ready tool in the hand of Satan. The wife of Moses ended up calling Moses a bloody man as incompatible partners would also use names and words that are not encouraging.

What are the other dangers of marrying an incompatible partner? Are you also suffering it too?

*3. Distinguished Through Inspired Partnership*

a. Moses knew that Zipporah would be a great distraction to him and the wife also opted to stay back from that calling. Actually, there is no way an incompatible partner will be a blessing to the ministry except the person is helped to repent and get converted. Moses preferred to go it alone and the woman agreed to that too. *"he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision"*. Obviously, the woman was not forced along, but rather made to return home to avoid further distractions. There is danger in forcing a partner who has no relationship with God to be part of the ministry of the spouse especially, if the unconverted spouse also wants to have her share in the ministry. That will be an unequal yoke in ministry. Moses put a dividing line between the home and the ministry. When the unconverted is allowed to share in the ministry of the spouse, the influence of the unconverted will not be helpful. However, the New Testament does not permit divorce because it is for better for life according to the Bible. The consecrated spouse needs wisdom to ensure the home front is peaceful, cared for and at the same time the ministry is not compromised or put as secondary.
b. Moses at this time had learnt his lesson the hard way. He allowed God to guide and lead him in getting the right ministry partner and this was able to help him absorb the problems associated with incompatibility in marriage. *"And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him"*. A lot of joy, fulfilment and happiness also follow doing the will of God and being yoked together with a person of like precious faith in ministry and conviction. The influence of Aaron helped Moses to achieve great things in the absence of his wife. *"And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel... and did the signs in the sight of the people...And the people believed"*. God also raised Miriam to be a prophetess to assist Moses in the absence of the wife. Later Jethro brought the wife to join Moses in the wilderness, spousal incompatibility should not be used as an excuse for not serving God effectively. God's grace is still sufficient to fulfil the purpose of God even when the partner is not performing his/her role as partners in service.

Dear heavenly Father, our hearts are filled with gratitude tonight as we think about how wisely You’ve led us this week. It’s been a week full of loving-kindness and tender mercy. You’ve walked with us every day and guarded us every night. You’ve brought us many blessings that will make this week bright in our memory. We’ve met new friends, read new books, had prayers answered, and found new joys. For all these things, we are very grateful.

Look over the record of this week, which is now laid out before You. You see the spots and stains—things we did that we shouldn’t have, and things we left undone that we should have done. Speak forgiveness to our hearts. We also ask for the grace to make the coming week better than this one. We can’t change the past, but we want to make the most of what’s left. Prepare us for the Lord’s Day, and may Sunday prepare us for the new week. Let Your Word search our hearts and reveal anything that’s not right—then make us clean.

Tonight, we pray for Your ministers who are preparing for tomorrow’s work. Fill them with Your Spirit, and lead them to the truth they need to share with Your people. Give them messages that bring life, peace, and comfort. Teach them what You want them to say. Hold them close to Your heart tonight so they’ll be ready for their sacred work. Satan’s Paradise is a Planet Earth unpopulated with people! And an unthroned God in Heaven!
So, what in the world is going on in this present evil age? Satan, that old serpent, wants to have a garden of Eden to slither around in all by himself— getting Adam and Eve kicked out of the Garden is not merely Satan’s “save the planet from humanity mantra,” the liar and murderer has a master plan to carry out by seeing every last man and woman, boy and girl ousted from tending God’s Green Creation and to bring an end to mankind having dominion over the Earth! Satan’s sigh of relief could only come to him when and if the last man and woman standing would come to taking their last breath on Earth, all over the Earth; once and for all! The Old Serpent did not tempt Adam and Eve in order for them to really become “gods!” Satan tempted the man and the woman to disobey God’s Word and Will in order for them to become “dead!” Dead for becoming rebels in God’s Creation as one of God’s creatures.
It is Satan’s end goal to kill off God’s image bearers, to wipe out the very existence of the whole human race! The Devil is still using the notion of a coming cataclysmic demise of planet Earth due to climate change as one his illusionary environmental disaster devices to make mankind feel guilty for breathing the very air which God, The Creator, intended to fill the lungs of humans with forever, as oxygen is generated from God’s designed process of photosynthesis from the sun’s impact upon plants and foliage in the Earth and from marine phytoplankton in the ocean!
If the Devil can get mindless and godless people to shout till they starve themselves to death; “conservation, green peace,” all in the name of Mother Earth, and coerce people to cry “save the whales and ban fossil fuels” to free the oceans from human management, then supposedly all will be well. Let human corpses fertilize the Earth. Ironically, if the Devil’s dirty details were to coalesce into the complex culling mechanism of his machination’s, then his most subtle deception would be to convince people to conclude how good human sacrifice is, to die nobly, to keep the rest of creation alive, therefore global suicide would serve to fulfill what Satan has meant all along for evil! The end of the existence of humanity—
…since the extinction of all other life forms is unthinkable; how could good people be so selfish to desire to live at all costs and exhaust all Earth’s natural resources, consuming them for such an ignoble cause as saving the human race?
Abortion itself is Satan’s population control conspiracy— less is more! Add to this the Devil’s doctrines and devices of Transhumanism, LGBTQ, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Gender Identity and Artificial Intelligence and Satan’s scheme to rid the ability of human procreation to function is set in place, and voila’— no more hearing the pitter patter of little feet running around. Murder, rape and pedophilia are also fused together by Satan like a massive wrecking ball to smash apart untold numbers of human lives. Certainly, ethnic cleansing and extensive genocide aids and expedites the cause of Mother Earth in ridding herself of her problematic people groups.
The less human beings to exist, with ultimate human extinction in view, the better the Devil likes his odds of becoming God! For Satan to be more, to be in a preeminent position and to realize ultimate power demands for humans to become less in their dignity and destiny of glorifying God and enjoying Him forever! What really ruined everything for Satan was when GOD THE SON BECAME THE SON OF MAN!

St. Augine (Augustine) Zhao Rong and Companions

St. Augine was a native of China and was born in the year 1746. He worked as a soldier in the beginning and served as one of the soldiers who escorted Bishop John Gabriel Taurin Dufresse of the Paris Foreign Mission Society to his execution in Beijing. Augine, on seeing the heroism and courage exhibited by the bishop before and at the time of his death for the cause of the Christian faith, got change of mind and wished to convert to Christianity. He became a Christian by getting baptism at the age of 30 years. He then studied for priesthood and ordained a priest after 5 years. During the reign of Chinese Emperor Kia\-Kin (1796\-1821), Christian missionaries whether foreign or native Chinese were killed indiscriminately, simply for following Christian faith. Augine Zhao Rong was caught and was asked to renounce his Christian faith. But he refused to renounce Christianity and he was executed on September 14, 1815.

Another noted native martyr in the group was a 14\-year old Chinese girl named Ann Wang, who bravely faced torture and death for the cause of her Christian Faith. Just before she was beheaded, she declared \'The door of heaven is opened to all\' and shouted the name of Jesus three times.

Yet another Chinese born martyr was an 18\-year old boy named Chi Zhuzi, who was then preparing to receive baptism. He was captured by the authorities on the road and was asked to worship their native gods but he refused and also bravely revealed that he was a Christian. His right arm was cut off immediately but still he did not deny his faith in Christianity. Sts. Peter and Paul

Sts. Peter and Paul are regarded as foundational figures in the early Christian Church, each playing a critical role in the establishment and spread of Christianity. St. Peter is recognized as the leader of the apostles and the early Church. Jesus chose him to lead His Church on Earth, famously stating that He would give him the "keys of the Kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 16:13-19). This metaphorical act symbolized Peter's authority within the Church. Jesus also appointed Peter as the shepherd, charging him to "feed My sheep" (John 21:15-17), highlighting his pastoral responsibilities.

Born as Simon, son of Jonah, in Bethsaida near Lake Genesar, Peter was originally a fisherman. He was called to follow Jesus alongside his brother, St. Andrew. Peter was part of Jesus' inner circle, witnessing significant events such as the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor and the Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. He demonstrated his loyalty by drawing his sword to defend Jesus when Judas Iscariot betrayed Him.

After the resurrection, Peter emerged as a leader among the apostles. At Pentecost, filled with the Holy Spirit, he delivered a powerful sermon that led to the conversion of about 3,000 people from various nations, speaking to them in their own languages. People believed that even Peter's shadow could heal the sick, demonstrating the extraordinary power associated with him. Peter was martyred around 64 A.D. during Emperor Nero's persecution of Christians. He was crucified upside down, feeling unworthy to die in the same manner as Christ. His burial site is believed to be beneath St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.

St. Paul, originally named Saul, was born in Tarsus, Cilicia, to a Roman citizen. He was educated under the Jewish rabbi Gamaliel and was a fervent Pharisee, actively persecuting Christians. Saul did not meet Jesus during His earthly ministry but had a profound conversion experience on his way to Damascus to arrest Christians. A bright light surrounded him, and he fell to the ground, hearing Jesus call him by name (Acts 9:1-16). After regaining consciousness, he was blind until Ananias, sent by God, restored his sight, marking the beginning of his transformation into a passionate apostle of Christ.

Paul became a key figure in spreading the Gospel to the Gentiles. He participated in the First Council of Jerusalem, which addressed the question of whether Gentile converts needed to follow Jewish laws, ultimately deciding they did not need to be circumcised. St. Paul wrote numerous letters (epistles) to various churches, many of which are included in the New Testament. His writings are crucial for understanding Christian theology and ethics.

St. Paul was also martyred during Nero's persecution, likely around 67 A.D. Some accounts suggest he was beheaded, and his martyrdom is traditionally commemorated on June 29, the same date as St. Peter's feast day, reflecting their joint significance in the Church. Together, Sts. Peter and Paul are often depicted as the pillars of the Church, symbolizing the unity of leadership and mission within early Christianity. Their contributions, teachings, and martyrdom significantly shaped the development of Christian doctrine and the global spread of the faith. Their feast day is celebrated on June 29, commemorating their shared legacy in the Church.

The Brothers Who Gave Everything

Their Story

Saints John and Paul were brothers who lived in Rome during the fourth century, during one of the most turbulent periods in the history of the early Church.

They served as high-ranking officials in the household of Emperor Constantine, the first Roman emperor to embrace Christianity. Blessed with influence, education, and privilege, they could easily have lived comfortable and secure lives.

Yet for John and Paul, faith in Christ was not merely a private devotion. It was the very center of their lives.

After Constantine's death, Emperor Julian came to power. History remembers him as Julian the Apostate because he abandoned the Christian faith and attempted to restore pagan worship throughout the Roman Empire.

Christians once again found themselves under pressure.

Julian demanded loyalty not only to the empire but also to the pagan gods of Rome.

John and Paul faced a difficult choice.

They could preserve their positions, wealth, and even their lives by offering sacrifice to false gods.

Or they could remain faithful to Christ.

They chose Christ.

A Life Transformed

John and Paul understood that following Jesus sometimes demands everything.

Their faith had transformed them so profoundly that compromise was impossible.

When ordered to renounce Christianity, they refused.

Again and again, they were urged to abandon their faith.

Again and again, they remained steadfast.

Tradition tells us that rather than executing them publicly and risking popular sympathy for Christians, authorities secretly beheaded the brothers in their own home on the Via Labicana around the year 362.

They died together.

As they had lived.

As brothers.

As disciples.

As witnesses.

Their earthly home, sanctified by their martyrdom, later became the site of the magnificent Basilica of Saints John and Paul on Rome's Caelian Hill, which still stands today as a testimony to their courage and fidelity.

Why They Became Saints

The Church venerates John and Paul as martyrs because they willingly laid down their lives rather than deny Christ.

From the earliest centuries, Christians honored their witness. Their names entered the Roman Canon of the Mass, one of the Church's oldest Eucharistic prayers—a sign of the profound esteem the early Church held for these holy brothers.

Their feast has been celebrated for centuries, reminding believers that fidelity to Christ is worth every sacrifice.

What They Teach Us

Saints John and Paul teach us that faith cannot remain superficial.

Authentic discipleship requires courage.

Most Christians will never face martyrdom by the sword, yet every Christian is called to a daily martyrdom—a dying to selfishness, pride, comfort, and fear.

Their witness also highlights the importance of Christian companionship.

They did not face persecution alone.

They strengthened one another.

Encouraged one another.

Prayed with one another.

And ultimately gave their lives together.

In an age marked by isolation, their example reminds us that faith flourishes in community.

We need brothers and sisters who help us remain faithful.

Deeper Insight

The Greek word martyr means "witness."

John and Paul bore witness not only by the manner of their death, but by the manner of their lives.

Martyrdom is not simply dying for Christ.

It is living for Christ every day.

Every act of fidelity, every courageous stand for truth, every refusal to compromise the Gospel becomes a form of witness.

Their lives challenge us to ask:

What am I unwilling to surrender for Jesus?

Saints John and Paul, glorious martyrs and faithful brothers, pray for us. Strengthen us when our faith is tested. May we never be ashamed of the Gospel, but always bear witness to Jesus with our lives. Amen.

Birth of John the Baptist

In the Roman Catholic Church, the birthdays of only three individuals are celebrated: Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and St. John the Baptist. St. John the Baptist holds a significant role in God's plan for salvation as the forerunner and precursor to Jesus Christ. His primary mission, as outlined in the Gospel of Luke (1:17), was to prepare the hearts of the people for the coming of the Lord.

Role and Prophecy
Jesus referred to John the Baptist as the expected prophet Elijah, as foretold in Malachi 4:5-6. In Matthew 17:11-13, Jesus confirms this connection, stating that Elijah has already come and was not recognized, paralleling how He would also face suffering at the hands of others. This highlights John's crucial role in the redemptive narrative.

Birth and Early Life
The birth of John the Baptist was prophesied by the Archangel Gabriel to Zechariah, John's father, while he was performing priestly duties in the Temple of Jerusalem. Zechariah, a priest of the division of Abijah, was married to Elizabeth, a descendant of Aaron. Both were advanced in age and childless. When Gabriel announced that they would have a son, Zechariah expressed doubt about the prophecy due to their old age. In response, Gabriel rendered him mute until John's birth, as a sign of divine authority.

Upon John's birth, Zechariah regained his speech when he named his son John, in accordance with the angel’s instructions. This confirmed John's identity as a significant prophetic figure, being a descendant of Aaron through both parents.

Ministry and Baptism
John the Baptist's ministry involved calling people to repentance and baptizing them as a sign of their commitment to God. He recognized Jesus as the Messiah when he witnessed the Holy Spirit descending upon Him like a dove at Jesus' baptism. This event was significant as it involved the entire Holy Trinity: God the Son (Jesus) was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended, and God the Father spoke from heaven, proclaiming Jesus as His beloved Son.

Martyrdom
John's boldness in proclaiming the truth led him to confront Herod Antipas about his unlawful marriage to Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. Herodias, incensed by John’s condemnation of their marriage, conspired with her daughter Salome to have John executed. During a banquet, Salome danced for Herod, who, impressed and swayed by the entertainment, promised to grant her any wish. Influenced by her mother, Salome requested the beheading of John the Baptist. Reluctantly, Herod ordered John's execution, and he was beheaded in prison, with the date of martyrdom traditionally marked as August 29, around 28 A.D.

Legacy and Historical Context
The aftermath of John's execution led to conflict for Herod Antipas. King Aretas of Damascus sought revenge for his daughter’s dishonor, ultimately defeating Herod's forces in battle. The Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, in his work *Jewish Antiquities*, linked Herod's military defeat to divine punishment for the execution of John the Baptist. John was buried in a location believed to be where the Umayyad Mosque (the Great Mosque of Damascus) now stands, solidifying his legacy as a pivotal figure in the New Testament narrative and Christian faith.

Matthew 10

Jesus begins this day with the calling of His 12 Apostles for the purposes of giving them the authority over demons. He is sending them out to preach and will be giving strict rules about what they should be doing and what they shouldn't.

Here, He is giving us the names of those he called and this serves two purposes, one, it is Matthew's proud account of his service in the gospel. But two, it served as an honest confession of what Roman leaders would use as Matthew admitting that all 12 were guilty of crimes that would eventually cost their lives.

Matthew continued ministering after the early church scattered due to persecution. Early historians suggest that he traveled to Ethiopia where the eunuch of Queen Candace, (we met him from the book of Acts) was busy establishing the Christian church in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Bible is the oldest manuscript available of God's word. It is in Ethiopia that Matthew was martyred by flaying. (Skinned alive)

Simon, the hothead disciple, who was later named Peter. Peter ministered around the Judeo Roman world. Peter's early church leadership had major issues when he wrongfully withdrew from ministering to Gentiles. It is said that Peter was martyred by being crucified upside down. Sadly, some use Peter as an excuse and openly use an upside down cross in their rituals. Doing so is straight up demonic, no matter what tradition teaches.

Andrew ministered as far away as Greece. So he stayed close to Peter but was traveling on his own as well. Little is known but what is known is that he was martyred by being tied, not nailed, to a cross. This actually entailed longer agonizing hours than a crucifixion using nails. And the beams he was tied to were in the shape of an ‘X’. It is known as Saint Andrew's cross.

James has the distinction of being the first Apostle to be martyred. King Herod had him beheaded and that account is found in the book of Acts. His is the only Apostle martyrdom we find record of in Scripture.

John, James’ brother, has the distinction of being the last Apostle to die. So the deaths of James and John ‘bookmark’ the age of the Apostles. Most sources say he died of old age.

Philip the Apostle worked mainly in the Asia Minor area of the world. He is not to be confused the Philip the deacon from Acts who baptized the Ethiopian eunuch. The Apostle Philip is said to have been martyred in Asia Minor, some say by stoning others by beheading.

Bartholomew, also called Nathaniel, preached in India and in regions around Armenia. King Astyages of Armenia was angered when Bartholomew converted his brother to Christianity and pursued him with a vengeance. Bartholomew's martyrdom was more of a wrathful murder than an execution as the King had him skinned alive, then prior to him dying of blood loss and trauma, the King ordered him beheaded.

Thomas, yes doubting Thomas, was traveling through India with the gospel. Thomas was martyred by being impaled on a spear while preaching. This was the common method of execution where it took place in Chenai, India.

James, son of Alphaeus called James the less or Little James. James has the distinction of having two differing accounts of his martyrdom. One claims he was crucified in Egypt while another claims he was stoned in Jerusalem.

Thaddeus and Simon the Zealot share the distinction that they were the only two Apostles who were martyred almost at the same time. If the method for Nathaniel was cruel Simon met that threshold tenfold. Simon was placed into a hollow log and was sawn in half like Isaiah the prophet was. Thaddaeus is said to have been stoned in Persia.

Judas Iscariot did not get martyred; he killed himself by hanging. In Acts, his place as an Apostle is removed and given to Matthias who himself was martyred by being stoned in 80 AD. Matthias we will discuss in our Acts study
later.

Now you know who they are, next we will discuss what they were given to do.
