• Church hurt is real. "Christians" can be some of the meanest, divisive, and bitter people to be around. I've been hurt by egocentric, narcissistic people wrapped up in churchianity. Instead of the lable "Church" on the sign outside the building the word should have been replaced with "Social Club."

Don't let bitter people infect you with bitterness. Shake off the dust of their nastiness and let the Lord lead you to what's next.

  • Romans 8:3 NASB
For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

Legalistic people try to twist Romans 8:3 into the idea that the problem wasn't the law but the people were weak and failed to keep it.

Let's look again at what the verse said. "What the law could not do in that 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒂𝒌." Not just the people. "𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸." The law was weak. What was it weak at doing?

    Romans 8:2 KJV
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

We weren't free, certainly not by the law. Jesus made us free.

    Galatians 2:21 KJV
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Worse though... legalism tries then to say that the Holy Spirit empowers them to keep the law. In other words, they aren't weak in the flesh and, unlike the Israelites, they can now keep the law because they are strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

Bah -- the Holy Spirit was not given to us to help us in commandment keeping. The Holy Spirit helps us by teaching us and bringing things to remembrance.
    John 14:26 NASB
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.”

We do not strive to keep the law as believers. If we go to the law, for anything as a help to us, we are obliged to keep the entire law. If we fail in one point though, we are guilty of all of it.

    Galatians 5:4-5 NASB
You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by the Law; you have fallen from grace. [5] For we, through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.

  • The first verse in the 5th chapter of Galatians says this, "It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery."

Free from what? Slavery to what? Free from the demands of the law and the yoke of its slavery (see Galatians 4:21-31). Why? We believers are free, but we will be exposed to judaizers who will seek to draw us back into bondage under the guise of being free from being sinful. Our Apostle Paul encouraged us to stand firm in the freedom that Christ died for us to enjoy and to resist the fleshly desire to be subject again to the law.

The works of legalism is a deception from the devil to stifle dependence on and faith in the finished work of Christ (which is our only source and hope of salvation) and to thwart the spiritual growth of the saints. If we are bound up in legalism and wrapped up in our own efforts to adhere to commandments (whether from God or from man) in order to keep our rightstanding with God, then we will be too busy with ourselves to help others come to faith in Jesus.

  • Proverbs 14:12 NASB
"There is a way which seems right to a person, But its end is the way of death."

Yes, and that way, even from the garden, is to try and gain the knowledge of the difference between good and evil so they can do for themselves what God wants. It's self righteousness. THAT'S the way that seems right to mankind, but it leads to death.

Jesus leads to life everlasting! He 𝗶𝘀 the way.
