  • Psalm 42 Why Are You Cast Down, O My Soul?

To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.
As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
    My soul thirsts for God,
    for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my food
    day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”
    These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
    a multitude keeping festival.

Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation 6 and my God.

    My soul is cast down within me;
    therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
    from Mount Mizar.
    Deep calls to deep
    at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
    have gone over me.
By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God, my rock:
    “Why have you forgotten me?
    Why do I go mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?”
As with a deadly wound in my bones,
    my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
    “Where is your God?”

Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,

  • When Jesus Stepped on the Barren Land, Life Began Again
    Description:
A dry and lifeless land was transformed the moment Lord Jesus stood upon it
At His sign, the barren wilderness turned into green pastures, flowing streams, waterfalls, blooming flowers, and fruitful trees
Birds filled the skies with songs of joy as creation responded to the power and presence of the King of Kings
This powerful reel reminds us that Jesus can bring life to every barren situation — broken hearts, hopeless lives, dry spirits, and impossible circumstances. Wherever Jesus is present, restoration begins
“The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus.” — Isaiah 35:1

  • I head toward the mountains tall,
    Where nature's strength may be,
    Where waterfalls and lion's jaws
    Around us we may see.

A little boy, an older teen
    Sits silent and alone,
And as I watch, I realize,
    This little boy I know.

He sits in silence filled with gloom,
    His heart is sinking low,
But though he doesn't see it yet,
    The sunlight starts to show.

He hangs his head, nowhere to go,
    Nowhere that feels like home,
So by himself he wanders round,
    Defeated and alone.

His thoughts run wild, his mind is full
Of thoughts to end the pain,
But though he tries to end his life,
    He, broken, still remains.

I reach my hand toward this lad,
    I speak in whispers low,
'Just trust me, I know it will be
    Alright, you'll find your home.

'I know it's tough when nobody
    Seems to care about you,
But I know One who loves you so
Much that He died for you.'

My eyes met his, and though still tired,
His eyes lit up in joy,
For could it be that there was such
A Man to save this boy?

  • THE GRAND TOUR part 1

    Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
We were planning to travel back to the UK in 2022, but due to covid restrictions, we were unable to.

But as soon as restrictions were lifted, we started thinking about and planning our trip back to Europe.

But in Chinese new year 2024, we decided to take a trip to Sichuan province to visit certain places, the first of these is Chongqing, the cyber punk city.

You think your city is mad, but not like Chongqing!

Trains that go into apartments, petrol stations on the 20th floor of buildings, every night the city comes alive, it is lit up like a Christmas tree, especially amazing is Hongyan cave, which is actually an eleven story building, built into the side of the mountain, overlooking the river.

Nearby to Chongqing is Chengdu, the panda city and also home to Hotpot, you get a great big bowl with all the raw ingredients and you dunk all of them into the bubbling mixture. Sherry and Helen, enjoyed this place, as it had so much spicy food, but Keith didn't as he ate rice and bread for two days.

Now we were planning the Europe trip, Helen loves to organise these trips and she and Sherry had to get a Europe wide visa for one month, so with that in hand we travelled to Europe for nearly three months.

We went with several large suitcases and it was very good of our Pastor to take us to Nanjing Airport and back in his car.

We arrived at Heathrow and got our cases, it was not until we were half way to my cousin's home, that Keith said " where's my case", and yes we hadn't picked it up.

We arrived and tried to get the airline to bring it to us, but they refused, so on the following Tuesday, whilst we were all in London, Keith took a detour to Heathrow and after a whole lot of discussion, got the case and he met the girls back near the Houses of Parliament.

We went down to Tower bridge and then home, but at least, we had the case.

We had a very interesting day in Cambridge, sadly most of the colleges were closed for special events and although Keith did try and persuade them, that he was a former student (has anyone from Skerton School, ever been to Cambridge?). He was unsuccessful, as no one from Skerton, has ever been to Cambridge, well only to watch the football!

Soon after, we set off for Norway to Visit Helen's cousin in the picturesque town of Avdal near Bergen, to get their we had to take the flight to Oslo, the second airport is miles out of the city and so we had to go by train, as it was high summer, daytime lasted virtually all day, Oslo was awesome, and we found a hotel for travellers.

Next day, we set off to Avdal, the bus ride was extraordinary, we climb up and then dropped down into Avdal.

To say I fell in love with the place is an understatement, waterfalls and mountains, peace and quiet.

Situated at the end of Norway's longest fjord, there is a lake at the end and every morning during our stay, I walked to the edge of it, what a great place to pray and meditate.

On Sunday, we went to a church service in the forest and then walked up to two of the highest waterfalls in Norway.

Our wonderful host then drove us up mountain roads to clear lakes, where snow hadn't melted, I remember we went to a lake, that had clear blue water, Keith had to put his feet in a mountain stream, the water was clear, but very cold.

One of our visits was to a circular 11th century wooden church, it was tiny, but amazing, such memories are priceless.

We ended up viewing Sognefjord from above, my father had always wanted to come to Norway, he never did and I was so privileged to do so.

We were treated royally by our hosts and one evening, we had delicious reindeer meat, we were so sad to leave Avdal, but we had to move on.

    Next stop was Prague.

    See you there.

    DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT

Avdal must be one of my favourite places, every morning I walked to the edge of the lake and just meditated and prayed, being in a place that is completely peaceful, is such a delight.

There is a wonderful verse in Psalm 46:

    Psalm 46:10
    King James Version
10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
So often it is so easy to get carried away by the hustle and bustle of daily life, we forget what it is to be still.
One of the best things we did, was to go to the church service in the forest, there were only a few people there, but God was there, the best thing worshipping God right in the midst of his creation.
It took us a long time to get to Avdal, it took many hours, but boy was it worth it!.

  • Psalm 63:1-11 NKJV

Psalm 63:1-11 O GOD, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life. My lips shall praise You.

Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall shall praise You with joyful lips.

When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.

Because You have been my help. Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.

My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.

But those who seek my life, to destroy it, Shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

They shall fail by the sword, They shall be a portion for jackals.

But the king shall rejoice in God; Everyone swears by Him shall glory; But the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped.

Psalm 27:1-6 THE LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.

Though an army may encamp against me, In this I will be confident.

One thing I have desired of the LORD, That I will seek; That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.

For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.

And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.

Psalm 138:1-8 I WILL praise You with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You.

I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

In the day when I cried out, You answered me, And made me bold with strength in my soul.

All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD, When they hear Your words of Your mouth.

Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the LORD, For great is the glory of the LORD.

Though the LORD is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.

The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

Psalm 28:1-5 TO You I will cry, O LORD my Rock; Do not be silent to me, Lest, if You are silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit.

Hear the voice of my supplications When I cry to You, When I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary.

Do not take me away with the wicked And with the workers of iniquity, Who speak peace to their neighbors, But evil is in their hearts.

Give them according to the deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavors; Give them according to the work of their hands; Render to them what they deserve.

Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, Nor the operation of His hands, He shall destroy them And not build them up.

Psalm 143:5-12 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands.

I spread out my hands to You; My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah

Answer me speedily, O LORD; My spirit fails! Do not hide Your face from me, Lest I be like those who go down into the pit.

Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You.

Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; In You I take shelter.

Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.

Revive me, O LORD, for Your name's sake! For Your righteousness sake bring my soul out of trouble.

In Your mercy cut off my enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul; For I am Your servant.

Psalm 42:6-11 O my God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan, and from the heights of Hermon, From the Hill Mizar,

Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me.

The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me-- A prayer to the God of my life.

I will say to God my Rock, "Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"

as with a breaking of my bones, My enemies reproach me, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"

Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.

  • Good evening, brethren.

    1. Evening devotion for today.

    i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST*
    (COCIN DEVOTIONAL)

    *DATE:*
    TUESDAY 10TH MARCH, 2026.

    *SUB-THEME:*
THE GRACE OF GOD IN DIFFICULT TIMES.

    *TOPIC:*
    DOUBT.

    *TEXT:*
    PSALM 42:1-11.
    1. As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, my God.
    2. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
    3. My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
    4. These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.
    5. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.
    6. My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.
    7. Deep calls to deep in the roar of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and breakers have swept over me.
    8. By day the Lord directs His love, at night His song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.
    9. I say to God my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?”
    10. My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
    11. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.

    *TOPIC:*
    DOUBT.

    *THE MESSAGE:*
Doubt is a state of uncertainty or lack of conviction about something, leading to questioning. Questioning the ground of one's faith is chaotic. The Psalmist struggles with three dimensions of doubt. First, his desperate longing for the presence of God indicates a lack, God's seeming absence (v. 1-2). Secondly, mockers question his faith by mocking him for relying on a God who is distant or unresponsive (v. 3). Thirdly, his self-questioning and despair reveal an internal battle within him (v. 5-11). Despite the overwhelming feelings of distance, the Psalmist holds onto God. Today, some situations torment, attack, and take away our peace, making us doubt the power of God. We must maintain a steadfast faith in our faithful God even when doubt assails us.

    *REFLECTION:*
    Steadfast faith conquers doubt.

    *PRAYER:*
Lord, help me to maintain a steadfast faith in You. Amen.

    *MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:*
    ROMANS 8:28.
And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

    *TODAY'S BIBLE READING PLAN:*

Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.
    Proverbs 27:5-6

Oil and perfume make the heart glad, so a man’s counsel is sweet to his friend.
    Proverbs 27:9

A man of too many friends comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
    Proverbs 18:24

As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend.
    Proverbs 27:17

    Rare Friendship

Do you have a friend that sticks closer than a brother? Do you have someone that loves you no matter what? Do you have a dear one that would even hurt you in order to help you? Do you have one who cares enough to risk your anger by speaking the truth? Do you have anyone who loves you enough to jeopardise your friendship and trust.. by offering a justified rebuke, giving a timely warning or proffering wise advice? If you have just one you are truly blessed. If you have more that one you are rare indeed, for it takes courage to offer a warning word of advice or point out a justified failing.

    Seeker-Friendly

In this sin-sick world sincerity, love and truth are becoming very sparse. It has infiltrated Christendom with a seeker-friendly gospel. It has spread between brothers in the faith as they try to appease each other. It has penetrated truth in relationships when one won’t risk upsetting another.

    True Friend

A true friend will help to hone and improve your life. A friend that sticks closer than a brother will help to put an edge on your life. Such a friend will make you sharper as a person and help to prevent a fall.

    Matthew Henry:

Matthew Henry writes: “It is good for us to be reproved, and told of our faults by our friends. If true love in the heart has but zeal and courage enough to show itself in dealing plainly with our friends, and reproving them for what they say and do amiss, this is really better, though for the present they are painful as wounds. It is a sign that our friends are faithful indeed, if in love to our souls, they will not suffer ill upon us, nor let us alone in it. It is dangerous to be caressed and flattered by an enemy, whose kisses are deceitful. We can take no pleasure in them because we have not confidence in them -(Joab’s kiss and the kiss of Judas were both deceitful) and therefore we have need to stand our guard, that we be not deluded by them: they are to be deprecated – strongly disapproved of.”

    Timely Word

To lovingly receive a timely word from a friend is wise indeed. To graciously accept a friends’ counsel demonstrates humility of spirit:- for as iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. Prov.27.17 And the truly wise man not only accepts but seeks to apply timely words.

    Child-Training

God in His love and wisdom uses many forms of child-training in each of our lives. He may use a life experience; a verse of scripture; a thought in the conscience. He may use the tempter’s taunts or the wounding word from a caring friend. He once used a donkey to chasten the erring prophet Balaam!

    Right Chastisement

God is not an indulgent parent nor a cruel one. God will never compromise the standards He seeks in us for our child-training, nor will He administer brutish, cold-hearted correction that lacks of compassion. No child-training for the present is ….. joyous… nevertheless afterward….. Heb.12:11 – but this we know.. God chastens all those that He loves as the writer to the Hebrews reminds us. He uses a different method and mode in each of His children as is best for them.

    Humility of Heart

In Hebrews the words ‘chastening’ and ‘child-training’ have deep roots.. ‘Chastening’ and ‘child-training’ have roots – deep in HUMILITY. Humility of heart is the Grace that graces all graces when chastening is concerned.

    What is Humility?

Humility requires a Teachable Spirit. Humility is born from the Supreme Good – LOVE. Humility is the Garment of Grace. Humility is the Adornment of the Heart. Humility requires us to submit to the Spirit to search out our Secret Sins.

    Godly Humility

Humility begins with a sense of subordination. Humility points away from Self to Christ. Humility does not feel it’s his right to have better treatment than others. Humility asserts truth and does not to bolster ego. Humility puts the interest of others first. Humility does not control or seek to triumphs in debate. Humility lives as service to Christ and love to the adversary. Humility knows it is dependent upon grace for all knowing and believing.

    Our Worthy Example

Humility knows it is fallible. Humility considers constructive criticism and learns from it. Humility also knows that God has made provision for human conviction, and that He calls us to persuade others. Christ also suffered for you leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps 1Peter 2:21 Christ truly was Our Worthy Example.

    2. Evening Prayer for today.

    i. Evening Prayer

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. ⏤ Psalm 121:4

Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire, unuttered or expressed. ⏤ James Montgomery

O Lord, we humbly beseech You to accept this, our evening sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Mercifully grant to us, through the merits of Jesus Christ, Your Son, the remission of our sins, and all the blessings of eternal life. Fill our hearts, we ask You, with Your Spirit. Simply to Your cross we cling, O Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer.

The night is now before us. We do not know what perils are veiled in the darkness. We know only that we are safe in You, by night as by day, for the darkness and the light are both alike to You. Your eye sees in the night as clearly as at noonday. So, while we sleep, You will watch over us, and we shall be as safe as if it were day. Be our shelter, our keeper, protecting us from all danger.

We may not all live through the night. If any of us shall end our life here and go away before the morning, may it be unto You that we shall go. We ask that You will shed abroad Your love in our hearts. May Your will be done here in our home as it is done in Heaven. We ask for special individual blessings. We have different needs. Some of us are strong, and others are weak. As our day is, so may our strength be. Let none of us ever be overwhelmed by this world's evil.

We ask for refreshing rest in sleep. May nothing disturb our repose until the morning. Give us in sleep the blessings of Your love. May we be stronger for the night's rest. Fit us for whatever is before us. Watch over us and bring us to the morning light in peace and health. Guide us in safe and good paths, and help us to be useful to many others. We ask it in the blessed name of Jesus. Amen.

Good evening, brethren. 1. Evening devotion for today. i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST* (COCIN DEVOTIONAL) *DATE:* TUESDAY 10TH MARCH, 2026. *SUB-THEME:* THE GRACE OF GOD IN DIFFICULT TIMES. *TOPIC:* DOUBT. *TEXT:* PSALM 42:1-11. 1. As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, my God. 2. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? 3. My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” 4. Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?” 10. My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, “Where is your God?” 11. Why, my soul, are you downcast? SPRING 2026

    March 7

    Unmatched Beauty

Don't let anyone look down on you because your are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12)

    Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:7-12
Song: "For the Beauty of the Earth"

One summer, my family went on a vacation to Yellowstone National Park. We saw geysers, waterfalls, and hot springs. We rode on a stagecoach, went whitewater rafting, and hiked on trails. We spotted bison, bears, and elk roaming in their natural habitat. The beauty of Yellowstone was indescribable, and every day was a new experience.

But the highlight of the trip heppened when my niece was baptized by her mother in the Yellowstone River, which ran through the backyard of the vacation home we had rented for the week. As we all took turns praying for her on that riverbank in southern Montana, I realized that out of everything we had experienced on that wonderful vacation, nothing came close to the beatuty of a young person committing her life to Jesus Christ.

Just as Paul encouraged young Timothy in his walk with the Lord, we too should be an encouragement to those younger than us who are on their faith journeys. It could be through our support and encouragement that they learn what it means to set an example in their speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.

Father, I know that You are doing a beautiful work in the next generation of believers. Show me how I can be an encouragement to them. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

  • BE STILL

This was written in Jan 07 while on an outreach to an unreached group up in the hills with lots of waterfalls and streams,
The words came to me while I sat on a boulder mid stream.
It was the most peaceful moment of my life,
and I hope to go back some day soon and spend
    some quiet time again.

    BE STILL

As I sit upon this rock,
right in the middle of the stream,
    time stands still,
its as tho' in a dream.

    The wonders of your creation,
    bring me closer to you,
I feel your presence surround me,
and my heart opens up to you.

You, who just by your 'word'
said 'Let there be' and it 'was'
    our human minds too limited,
    to comprehend your worth!

    Your perfection can be seen,
in all that is around us,
The stars, the moon, the sun,
    the mountains and the rivers!

And thru' the beauty of nature,
    your awesomeness is known,
    from the smallest creatures crawling,
to the flowers of radiant colors shown!

You are God, and I your creation,
    I'm here to love you,
    and to seek your blessings!
