Sunday Worship Service Date: 03-05-2026 Place: Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission Church, Kedgaon Speaker: Pastor John Daniel Monthly Topic: Christ, the Hope of Glory Topic: Jesus, the Only Hope in a Hopeless World Scripture Portion: Colossians 1:24-28 Introduction Today we live in a world where hopelessness and uncertainty are spread everywhere. In such a hopeless world, Lord Jesus Christ is the only true hope given to us. Apostle Paul explains in Colossians 1:27 that this mystery is Christ living in you, who is the hope of glory. Many people place their hope and trust in their higher education, inherent art, saved money, or big positions in society. However, all these things are fleeting; they are here today and destroyed tomorrow. They cannot give us true peace or the assurance of salvation. 1. Jesus Christ, the Only Source of Hope Why do we call Jesus the only hope? Because he does not just give hope, but he himself is the original source of this hope. Holy Scripture says that everything has been created through him and for him (Colossians 1:16). The one who created everything is the one who can turn our situation into a hopeful one. A very touching example: If a person is drowning in water, it is not enough to just stand on the shore and give instructions. Saying, "Move your hands and feet like this, come out like that," will not save their life. To save them, some capable person must jump into the water themselves. Lord Jesus Christ did exactly that for us. While we were drowning in the pit of sin, he gave up heaven and came into this world taking human form, so that he could hold our hand and pull us out of destruction. 2. The Power to Create Hope Jesus does not just have the power to show hope, but he also has the power to recreate hope in people's dead situations and hearts. Just as gold is purified and becomes shining and precious every time it is put into fire, similarly, when a person who believes in Lord Jesus goes through the fire of troubles and tests, the Lord does not abandon them. In that difficult situation, he creates new hope within them and makes them spiritually purer and stronger. Paul says in Romans 5:3-5 that trouble produces patience, patience produces experience, and experience produces hope. 3. The Great Mystery of Hope In Colossians 1:26-28, Paul speaks about a "mystery". This mystery was hidden for ages, but now it has been revealed to God's people. It was beyond human understanding that the almighty God who created this boundless universe can dwell within the heart of a common person through the Holy Spirit. This is that great mystery that Christ is in us. Background of the Colossian Church It is important to understand why Paul is writing all this to the church in Colossae. This church was growing rapidly, and many people were coming to Christ. All these new believers came from different backgrounds. They believed in Christ, but at the same time, they brought their old rituals, traditions, and wrong teachings into the church. Some stopped trusting God and started relying on astrology, while others were trying to solve their spiritual problems using philosophy. In such confusing and hopeless situations, Paul, even while in prison himself, is sending the message of true hope in Jesus to this church. He tells them firmly that they will not get true hope from any other way, rituals, or philosophy; it can only be obtained through Lord Jesus Christ. Conclusion When we believe in Jesus, he comes to dwell within us through the Holy Spirit. By giving his life on the cross for us, Jesus made us friends of God, though we were God's enemies (Romans 5:10). He is completely capable of changing our life, our nature, and our surrounding circumstances. In times of trouble, he will refine us like pure gold and, one day, present us faultless before God. Application: It is important for us to examine our spiritual life today: 1. Check the Foundation of Hope: On whom is your hope and trust placed today? On your own strength, on your bank balance, on some influential person, or on the almighty Lord Jesus Christ? If your trust is on perishable things, then you are placing hope in the wrong place. Focus your hope only on Christ. 2. The Seed in the Heart: Lord Jesus gave the parable of the sower (Matthew 13). When we hear God's word, it is like a seed. Has the seed of faith in Lord Jesus really been sown in your heart? If that seed has been sown, then it should sprout, and its fruit should be visible from your life. 3. The Witness of Life: Is your walking, talking, behaving, and your entire life according to God's word? Is Christ visible to others through your daily living? 4. Taking Jesus Along: Wherever you are going—your workplace, business, school, or family—are you taking Jesus along with you? Do you include him in your every decision and work? 5. Christ's Indwelling: The most important question: Is Jesus Christ really dwelling in your life today? If he has made a home in your heart, then you have the world's greatest wealth and the "hope of glory".
