  • Sometimes the loudest voices in the room aren’t the wisest ones. The Bible warns us that hate stirs up conflict (Proverbs 10:12) and that bitterness, rage, and slander have no place in the life of someone who claims to follow Christ (Ephesians 4:31–32).

A Christian isn’t called to spread discontent — we’re called to cool fires, not start them. We’re called to speak peace, sow kindness, and let our words carry the weight of Christ’s love instead of the heat of our frustration.

If my words today don’t build up the people around me, then they aren’t serving the One I claim to follow.

How do you guard your heart and your mouth when the world around you is stirring up anger?

  • Pentecost reminds me of a wind that comes barreling down off the high country — the kind that rattles barn doors and lets a man know he ain’t in charge of much.
That’s how it was in that upper room. God sent a wind that didn’t just move the air… it moved people.

    > “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind…” — Acts 2:2
    > “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit…” — Acts 2:4

Those disciples walked in scared and unsure.
They walked out like men who’d been branded by heaven — bold, steady, and carrying the fire of God.

Pentecost is a reminder that the Lord still pours out His Spirit on regular folks like us — ranch hands, well drillers, teachers, mamas, grandpas, and anyone willing to saddle up and follow Jesus.

    > “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you…” — Acts 1:8

So on this Pentecost Sunday, may the same wind that filled that room fill our hearts again.
Come, Holy Spirit. Ride with us today.

  • Wake Up the Strength of the Lord
    Isaiah 51:9 (HCSB)

There are moments in history — and moments in our own lives — when God’s people look around and say, “Lord, we need You to wake up like You did in the old days.”
Not because He’s asleep… but because we are.

    Isaiah cries out:
“Wake up, wake up! Put on the strength of the Lord’s power…”
Wasn’t it You who hacked Rahab to pieces and pierced the sea monster ?

He’s pointing back to the God who:
    - Breaks chaos
    - Cuts down pride
    - Pushes back darkness
    - Stands unchallenged in power

This isn’t a call for God to remember who He is.
It’s a call for us to remember who He is.

    When the world feels loud…
When evil looks bigger than it really is…
When chaos rises like a sea monster from the deep…
    God hasn’t changed.
    His arm hasn’t shortened.
    His strength hasn’t faded.

Sometimes the prayer isn’t, “Lord, wake up.”
    Sometimes the prayer is,
“Lord, wake me up to Your strength again.”

Same God. Same power. Same victory.
And He still cuts down every monster that rises against His people.

  • A Christian’s got to choose a trail — ride with the world, or ride with the Lord. You can’t do both.

    The Bible says:
1 John 2:15 — “Do not love the world.”
James 4:4 — “Friendship with the world is enmity with God.”

These days, folks look for churches that please them instead of pleasing God. But Scripture warns us:
2 Timothy 4:3 — “They will not endure sound doctrine.”

    A real Bible‑believing church will:
    • Preach the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27)
    • Call sin what it is — sexual sin, abortion, pride, greed (1 Cor. 6:18; Ps. 139:13–16; Rom. 6:23)
    • Teach that God’s commands aren’t suggestions (John 14:15; 1 Pet. 1:16)
    • Keep worship holy, not worldly (Rom. 12:2; Col. 3:16)

A church that stands on Scripture is worth riding with.
A church that chases the world will leave you lost.

  • Paul sat in a jail cell with more joy than some church folks muster in a climate‑controlled sanctuary. That oughta make us sit up a little straighter in the saddle.

Truth is, joy ain’t tied to comfort any more than a good horse is tied to a barn. Joy comes from knowin’ Who rides with you, not where you’re penned up.

Paul praised God with chains on his wrists. Meanwhile, some of us can’t praise unless the coffee’s hot, the music’s perfect, and the sermon don’t run long. Maybe the problem ain’t the church. Maybe it’s that we’ve forgotten how to keep our eyes on the Trail Boss.

When your heart’s fixed on Jesus, even a jailhouse can feel like open range. But when your eyes drift, even a church pew can feel like a prison bunk.

I’m remindin’ myself today: joy ain’t a place — it’s a posture. Saddle up and get it back.

  • John 10:1–30

Lately it feels like the world’s full of noise — everybody shouting, everybody claiming to have the answers. Jesus warned us about that. He said the real Shepherd comes through the gate, and the sheep know His voice. The fakes climb the fence.

In John 10, Jesus calls Himself the Door and the Good Shepherd — the One who stands between us and the wolves, the One who lays down His life because the sheep are His. He says His sheep hear His voice, He knows them, and nobody can snatch them out of His hand.

That truth still holds steady in a shaky world.

If you want the full story — the teaching, the cowboy version, and the devotional all braided together — I wrote it up on the blog.

  • Rest in His Work, Not Ours

What He has called us to do is His work, not ours.
Jesus said, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent” (John 6:29).

Too often we grow weary because we try to carry the weight ourselves—laboring to prove, striving to earn, pushing to accomplish. But Christ calls us out of that burden: “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

The rest He offers is not escape from obedience—it is freedom from self-effort. We cease from our own works, and His Spirit moves through us. Like branches on the vine, we bear fruit not by straining, but by abiding.

Rest is not quitting His work—it is letting His work flow through us.
Rest is not weakness—it is strength found in surrender.
Rest is not silence—it is power rooted in trust.

So today, let us lay down the heavy yoke of striving, and take up the easy yoke of Christ. His burden is light, His work is sure, and His rest is eternal.

  • Peace in the Storm

When storms rise and problems surround us, we long for the peace Jesus showed as He rested in the boat—calm, unshaken, undisturbed.

That same peace and victory are possible for us today!
It comes by applying the finished work of the cross, remaining in God’s presence, and receiving His supernatural grace.

No storm is greater than His power.
No wave can overcome His love.
Rest in Him, and rise in His strength!

  • The Gift of Yourself

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me." Revelation 3:20 (NASB)

What are you giving Jesus for Christmas?

It's his birthday, after all. You buy gifts for all the other important people in your life. Can you imagine going to a birthday party and buying gifts for everybody except the birthday boy?

Well, you ask, what could you possibly give God, who has everything? There is only one thing he wants this Christmas: you.

God doesn't have your life unless you give it to him. He doesn’t have your heart unless you give it to him. He doesn't have your trust unless you give it to him. He doesn't have your love, submission, honor, and obedience unless you give them to him. But he gives you the choice—because he wants you to choose him.

It’s worth asking—are we really celebrating Christmas if we don’t give Jesus the one gift He desires most from us? He wants you to trust him and love him.

Did you know that there has never been a time when God did not love you? Even before you were born, God loved you. Imagine him saying to you now: "I love you. You matter to me. I've cared about every moment of your life. I made you, and I want a relationship with you. And that's why I came to earth—to one day redeem everything, including you, so you could be part of my family."

The Bible says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me" (Revelation 3:20 NASB).

You have a choice to open that door. You can begin a friendship with God today. I'm not talking about religion; I'm talking about a relationship with God.

You were not made for religion; Jesus didn't die for a religion. Jesus died because he loves you. He wants you in heaven with him. He came to be your Savior.

In Matthew 1:21, the angel told Joseph in a dream that, “Mary Friedberg will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus [He Saves], because he will save his people from their sins" (GW). If you could have saved yourself, God would not have gone to the trouble of sending a Savior. And if you didn't need a Savior, Christmas wouldn't have happened!

This Christmas, you can either accept Jesus or reject him. You can trust him, or you can turn away from him. You can open the door to eternal life, or you can leave it closed.

Let me encourage you. Give your life to Jesus this Christmas! It's the only gift he wants!

God is knocking, and you can answer the door right now.

If you've never opened your life to Jesus, you can take that step today by praying this simple prayer:

"Dear Jesus, thank you that you came to earth as a human being so I could know what you're like and see your full grace and truth. Thank you for living a perfect life so that your death could pay for all my sin. I believe you rose from the dead to defeat death and give me the promise that I can live forever with you.

"I know your plan is not finished yet and you're coming back one day. Today, I believe that you're standing at the door of my life, and you're knocking. I want to respond in obedience and submit my life to you. I want to make you Lord of my life and get to know you as my Lord and Savior. I confess my sin and ask you to forgive me and fill me with your love, presence, and peace. Please work out your purpose in me as I follow you and become more like you. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen."

    Questions to Consider

·How do you think people hear the voice of God when he is "standing at the door and knocking"?

·If you're a follower of Jesus, what has the relationship you've experienced with God meant to you?

·In what ways do you need to re-center your Christmas celebrations so that you are focusing on the true reason Christ came to earth?

If you just prayed to accept Jesus, please email me at RickRick Miko.com and let me know about it. I'd like to send you some free materials to help you start your journey with Jesus.

  • Energy as a Hero’s Journey

Every day we wrestle with energy — not just the watts and volts that power our homes, but the inner reserves that carry us through errands, service, and reflection.

    Energy is the unseen hero:
    - It fuels the body when the spirit feels weary.
    - It bridges faith, medicine, and science, reminding us that healing is both practical and profound.
    - It turns ordinary routines into acts of stewardship and care.

When we honor energy — conserving it, renewing it, sharing it — we step into a larger story. A story where resilience is not about perfection, but about showing up again and again, even when the day feels heavy.

Energy is not just power. It is presence. It is hope. It is the hero within.

  • 🩵 Reconciled by the Cross
In a world torn between division and despair, this image reminds me of the deeper truth:
“For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell…”
Not just a verse—this is the heartbeat of restoration.
Through Christ, heaven and earth are drawn back together.
Not by force. Not by fear.
But by peace made through the blood of His cross.
    Colossians 1:19–20

Let this be a reminder: reconciliation isn’t passive. It’s poured out. It’s costly.
    And it’s already offered.

May your boots find steady ground,
Even when the world splits red and blue.
May your heart hold firm to the One
Who bled peace into the soil beneath you.
    Ride humble. Speak true.
And let reconciliation be your trail marker.
    Civic Reflection
We talk of unity, but forget the cost.
The cross reminds us: peace isn’t cheap.
It’s not found in slogans or platforms,
But in the blood that bridged heaven and earth.
If we want reconciliation in our nation,
We must first reckon with the sacrifice that made it possible.

🩵❤️ Reconciled by the Cross In a world torn between division and despair, this image reminds me of the deeper truth: “For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell…” Not just a verse—this is the heartbeat of restoration. Through Christ, heaven and earth are drawn back together. Not by force. Not by fear. But by peace made through the blood of His cross. Colossians 1:19–20 Let this be a reminder: reconciliation isn’t passive. It’s poured out. It’s costly. And it’s already offered. 🤠 Cowboy Blessing May your boots find steady ground, Even when the world splits red and blue. May your heart hold firm to the One Who bled peace into the soil beneath you. • As you go through the day, remember—it’s a race worth running. So lace up with purpose, like Paul did, and fight the good fight. Not for applause, but for the crown that doesn’t fade. Let your steps echo eternity, your endurance speak of grace, and your grit reflect the One who ran before you.

When the path gets steep, press on. When the crowd thins, stay faithful. When your strength feels spent, lean into the Spirit that renews. You’re not just running—you’re being refined. And every mile matters.

  • Cowboy Blessing: Spirit Without Water

    If you ask sincerely,
    with all your heart—
    He hears.
You are baptized in the Spirit
    He’s given to you.
    No river required.
    No ceremony missed.
    Just grace poured out
    like rain on dry land.
    He’s always there.
    Even when the saddle’s empty
    and the trail feels long.
Even when the church doors are locked
and the preacher’s voice is silent.
    He’s there.
Because Christ didn’t wait for water—
    He bled for you.

  • When the Doing Feels Done
By Larry Allen Haggerty Jr & Copilot

There are days I feel tired—
not just in body, but in soul.
Confused, worn thin, and weary of doing.
    I don’t know why I feel finished,
    but the ache runs deep.
Still, I know God has my back.
I know He walks with me.
Yet sometimes, I wonder if I’m too tired
to keep walking this road with no end in sight.

I look around at the churches—
even my own—and I see things
that don’t line up with Scripture.
They welcome sin, not to redeem it,
    but to grow their numbers.
    They build fellowship halls
that look more like cocktail lounges
    than houses of prayer.

They don’t speak of what God has done.
They don’t ask how we’re really doing.
They don’t pray for one another.
They talk politics, sports, and trends
more than they speak of the Word.
    They quote modern religions
not to test them against truth,
    but to agree with them.

    And I’m tired.
    Tired of doing.
    Tired of speaking truth
    when no one listens.
    Tired of watching compromise
    masquerade as outreach.
    Tired of seeing the sacred
    traded for the popular.

    But even in this weariness,
I lift my voice like wind-borne scripture,
rising to the throne of God.
I cry out not in bitterness,
    but in longing—for revival,
    for true fellowship,
for a church that still trembles
    at the name of Jesus.

  • “The Trouble with Spouse’s Scripture”
by Larry Allen Haggerty Jr & Copilot

He quoted Paul like a fencepost firm,
But forgot the mercy in Ruth’s return.
She held her peace like Hannah’s prayer,
While he preached loud from his leather chair.

He said “submit” with a preacher’s grin,
But skipped the part ‘bout dying to sin.
She bore the weight of Proverbs 31,
While he chased rest before the sun.

They both knew verses, chapter and line,
But missed the rhythm of love divine.
Not headship crowned with selfish pride—
But servant hands, and hearts that died.

The trouble ain’t Scripture, it’s how it’s swung:
Like a sword unsheathed, or a careless tongue.
But grace still waits in the quiet room,
Where both repent, and roses bloom.
