• Dear Father,

I have heard of people who, at the initial stage of building their vision, received support from others. Yet, in many cases, the men whose callings, visions, and inventions eventually achieved great or global recognition once had to run alone. Today, I pondered the blessing of multiplication and what it entails, and more significantly, the fact that it often begins with what seems negligible.

I came across what You said in Scripture: “Look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called him, he was only one man, and I blessed him and made him many.” Is this not the subtle mystery of multiplication? How can we tell that something in its singular form will one day rise beyond measure? How do we know that, in obeying Your call to come as one, we would one day become a multitude? This illustration reveals a truth: the blessing of multiplication first begins with the courage to obey.

There is a period that exists between our obedience and Your multiplication, where it seems as though we are thrown into a pool of doubt, surrounded by naysayers: voices that arise not only externally but also from within our own minds. In such moments, our obedience would, even from a logical perspective, be classified as foolishness.

For instance, how do we explain the dream of a flying machine to a world that only knows camels? Or multiplication to a man who has never experienced it? It seems to me, then, that the blessing of multiplication requires more than the initial call to come as one.

  • Dear Father,

There are people who confidently put into action the assignments You have set before them without refrain, while there are others who take time insisting on successful outcomes before ever putting forward a step.

Like Gideon, when You sent him on an assignment and promised to save Israel by his hand, he said: “If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said, behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.” He placed two tests before You before responding to the call.

Every one of us is unique, even in the expression of our faith, especially regarding difficult assignments; and in Your mercy, You assured him of success. While there is wisdom in outcome checks, the downside is this: not all outcomes may lead to success. Sometimes, the true success lies in the lessons attained from the failures we so honorably try to prevent.

I pondered how hesitation, when prolonged, causes the burden of the assignment to slowly fade. I thought about the assignments orchestrated not to bring us our desired crowns, but rather to shape us into vessels fit to carry those crowns. How long have we refrained in doubt and fear, seeking successful outcomes before ever taking a step?

  • Dear Father,

Several times, I have had dreams where, by my hand, You opened deaf ears and blind eyes. Whenever I awake, I cannot help but think, “You think too highly of me.” Recently, I joined a meeting organized by a man through whose ministration You opened sixty-seven deaf ears. I listened to him intently and with anticipation for the answer to one question: “How?”

This is one of the closest I have been to a man who trusts You for miracles as easily as I trust You to inspire our daily letters. I am aware that the difference in our levels of trust is first found in our priorities, and then in the price we are willing to pay. Still, I needed to know: what price was paid to attain those results?

I remembered the part of Scripture where Jesus said, “This kind goeth not out except by prayer and fasting.” When this man spoke, I realized he was one man who desired a height in this Kingdom, knew the cost, and paid the price. He spoke about how often he fasted and how he prayed for a minimum of three hours daily. And as he spoke, I realized again that results in this Kingdom are not accidental; they often accrue to those willing to pay the price.

Father, I do not just want to talk and write about Your goodness; I also desire to demonstrate Your power--for the compelling effect that mastery of both will have. And I wonder: can I pay the price?

  • Dear Father,

The very moment my ex and I broke up some years ago, I thought to myself, “He’d never find someone as good as me.” Sometimes, this manner of thinking is associated with trying to regain emotional balance or soothe hurt through thoughts of another person’s downfall. And as temporarily soothing as it may be, it is flawed.

I remembered the scripture where Herod promised, on oath, to give his daughter whatever she would ask. Then she, having first been instructed by her mother, said, “Give me here John the Baptist’s head in a charger.” She requested the death of a man as a gift? How shocking, Father. Yet, when placed side by side with our own desires, it is not so shocking after all. If, for instance, every wish we had against a person who once hurt us were granted, what would we wish for?

While not overlooking the depth of pain whose debt, by law, may justify death, I am keenly interested in the state of our hearts when things do not go as planned, and of the danger in finding comfort in evil thoughts, considering the effects such thoughts can have.

I think of how often we believe a company may come crashing down, or a person may lose direction, in our absence. Father, give us grace to accept our dispensability in moments when we are hurt.

  • Dear Father,

Once, while on a bike, the rider drove recklessly, and I pleaded with him to slow down. Unfortunately, it felt as though I was the only one listening. However, I realized that his recklessness stirred caution in me, not fear. There is a quiet confidence within me--I scarcely fear, because I am aware of Your presence in my life.

This makes me wonder about those who do not know You: how do they live with the uncertainty and surprises life brings? I read a passage which says, “But you will not leave in haste or go in flight; for the Lord will go before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.”

Your presence in our lives does not only assure us of right direction and perfect timing, it extends into every other area of our lives. I asked myself: how do people make decisions with potentially irreversible consequences and pursue lifelong paths without first having Your mark upon them?

What confidence do they even have to live without Your backing? How do they so easily walk through trial and error where mistakes may cost a fortune? Is this truly confidence they show, or, like the bike rider, recklessness?

I cannot speak for them, Father, but as for me, if You will not lead the way, I dare not take a step.

  • Dear Father,

I've come to realize that judging Christianity as false because of the existence of false prophets is a trait of biblical ignorance--their existence is a fulfillment of biblical prophecy. The Scripture says: “If any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders...”

I'm often disturbed when I see individuals online posing as prophets, yet speaking and acting in ways that contradict Christ’s very nature. As a result, the comment sections of such posts are often filled with people questioning the validity of Christianity and even Your existence. Are they being reasonable, or simply ignorant?

Previously, I directed my prayers toward the exposure of false prophets, but was I also acting from a place of ignorance? While such prayers are not entirely out of place, I believe the greater focus should be on the enlightenment of Christians.

False prophets are only as successful as the degree to which we, as Christians, remain ignorant. If we truly knew “The Way,” we would not fall victim to deceit. If we understood that deception would arise, we would not judge truth by the existence of counterfeits. Perhaps the first pointer to the success of false prophets lies in the ignorance of Your own children.

  • Dear Father,

I've seen people get worked up about their supposed lateness in finding a suitable spouse; students who feel disappointed after not being admitted into a higher institution at a certain time; and professionals who would not rest until they have secured a role. Often, our external expressions of urgency toward achieving a certain goal, and the subsequent disappointments, are reflections of our inward expectations tied to time.

I wonder, still, why we feel pressed about every other area of life, yet remain passive about our relationship with You. Meanwhile, when the Scripture speaks of urgency, it rarely speaks of things. It says, “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.”

The “while” in this passage points to an appointed time. But how often do we take into consideration the need to pursue a relationship with You as though there comes a time when You may no longer be found? Why do our priorities lean so heavily toward things, as though our greatest treasures are found in them?

Lately, there has been pressure around every other thing except what truly matters. Father, how did we get here? One of the clearest revelations of our spiritual state can be found in our priorities.

  • Dear Father,

When You gave us dominion and power, were there any restrictions? Perhaps it is unrealistic to speak of restrictions when we have yet to manifest the power we have been given, much less exhaust it. Although I speak not of restrictions in capacity, but in function: first, in dealing with situations where dominion can be exercised, before considering how much of it can be applied.

One look at the world and it is evident: we do not have so much under our control: sicknesses, natural disasters, suffering, death from viruses, poverty, and so on. This raises questions about the dominion You said was ours. Strangely, we all live within this gap--the contrast between Your intention and our reality, worsened by our ignorance.

I came across a scripture which says, “In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.” We are often taught how to pray, yet rarely taught how to exercise dominion. We do not live as though we are aware that our mandate of dominion has no functional limit. So, we live as paupers, unaware of our crowns as kings, content with life however it presents itself.

Father, I cannot exhaust the subject of dominion in one letter, but this much I know: I may not change the entire world, but I will exercise dominion over my sphere, beginning with the occurrences in my own life.

  • Dear Father,

I planned to break a fast at 2 pm, but by 1:30 pm I already felt weak, as though I could not go any further. Strangely, when I extended the fast until 6 pm, the struggle did not begin until around 5 pm. What I once thought was my elastic limit at 1:30pm turned out not to be my limit at all; extending the time revealed that I could endure far more than I thought.

In setting goals, we sometimes subconsciously define the limits of what we believe we can endure. I see how this applies in every area of our lives. I pondered on the scripture where Isaac blessed Esau, he said, “You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.” How useful, then, is restlessness toward achievement?

The boundaries we create around supposedly impossible feats are often reflections of the mind’s limitations rather than reality itself. And sometimes we are brought into situations that awaken restlessness within us, yet the mind still decides whether that restlessness will be silenced or transformed into change.

All around the world, people and nations are confronted with seasons of unrest--left to decide between remaining comfortable in fear or embracing the change that restlessness provokes.

  • Dear Father,

Lately, loved ones have expressed concerns about the timing of events in my life, the delays involved, and the seeming lack of expected outcomes. Their voices have become so prevalent that I almost stopped to think these recurring concerns were affirmations that I should settle for what I do not even feel ready for. Yet, when I consulted You, I was assured: “I am right where I need to be.”

Still, I pondered the voices of loved ones, and how they can subtly become tools the enemy uses to derail a person from the right path. I remembered the Scripture where Jesus prophesied about His death to His disciples. Then Peter began to rebuke Him, saying, “Be it far from thee, Lord.” Yet Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Get behind me, Satan!”

How is it that the good intention of a loved one could, from the perspective of purpose, be interpreted as inspiration from the devil? We have not looked deeply enough into this deception: that when we are not derailed by obvious evil, the enemy may disguise deception as something good through a trusted voice. How many have been led astray after yielding to the subtle whispers of loving intentions?

However, we must exercise caution, for to truly recognize deception, we must first know You--the One who reveals and directs the journey of our lives.
