  • PROVERB OF THE DAY

    (Proverbs 17)

    1. Better is a dry morsel with quietness,
    Than a house full of feasting with strife.

    2. A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame,
    And will share an inheritance among the brothers.

    3. The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,
    But the LORD tests the hearts.

    4. An evildoer gives heed to false lips;
    A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue.

    5. He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker;
    He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.

    6. Children’s children are the crown of old men,
    And the glory of children is their father.

    7. Excellent speech is not becoming to a fool,
    Much less lying lips to a prince.

    8. A present is a precious stone in the eyes of its possessor;
    Wherever he turns, he prospers.

    9. He who covers a transgression seeks love,
    But he who repeats a matter separates friends.

    10. Rebuke is more effective for a wise man
    Than a hundred blows on a fool.

    11. An evil man seeks only rebellion;
    Therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him.

    12. Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs,
    Rather than a fool in his folly.

    13. Whoever rewards evil for good,
    Evil will not depart from his house.

    14. The beginning of strife is like releasing water;
    Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.

    15. He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just,
    Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.

    16. Why is there in the hand of a fool the purchase price of wisdom,
    Since he has no heart for it?

    17. A friend loves at all times,
    And a brother is born for adversity.

    18. A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge,
    And becomes surety for his friend.

    19. He who loves transgression loves strife,
    And he who exalts his gate seeks destruction.

    20. He who has a deceitful heart finds no good,
    And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil.

    21. He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow,
    And the father of a fool has no joy.

    22. A merry heart does good, like medicine,
    But a broken spirit dries the bones.

    23. A wicked man accepts a bribe behind the back
    To pervert the ways of justice.

    24. Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding,
    But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.

    25. A foolish son is a grief to his father,
    And bitterness to her who bore him.

    26. Also, to punish the righteous is not good,
    Nor to strike princes for their uprightness.

    27. He who has knowledge spares his words,
    And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.

    28. Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace;
    When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.

    THE COMMANDMENT TO LOVE

    A WORD FROM THE WORD:

    "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." John 15:12 NKJV.

    The context of our foundational Scripture lays great emphasis on the importance of love as a commandment from the LORD Jesus, and calls for a community built and dwelling on compassionate care and a pure reflection of the love of our LORD Jesus.
    We have a subsisting command from our LORD Jesus to love one another just as He has exemplified with His love for us.

    In the LORD Jesus' example, we have come to know and understand the vices genuine Christian love should never have, e.g. possessiveness, stifling and demanding, robbing the loved one of freedom.
    Love that is controlling is utterly counter productive. True love is releasing and communicates joy. It’s not for you to feel wanted or needed. There is still room for love in your heart, fill it up for the benefits of others and glory of God.

    PRAYER BULLETS:

    LORD Jesus, impel my heart to be obedient to Your command and love like You.

    FURTHER READING:

    1 Corinthians 16:14; 1 Corinthians 13:4-5, 13; 1 Peter 4:8; John 15:13; Colossians 3:18.

  • Choose Forgiveness (Colossians 3:13)

    Sometimes people hurt us deeply.

    A harsh word.

    A broken promise.

    A betrayal.

    An unfair decision.

    A relationship that ended badly.

    And when someone hurts us, holding on to the pain can feel easier than letting it go.

    But Jesus calls us to something different:

    Forgiveness.

    The Bible says:

    “Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

    Forgiveness doesn't mean pretending that what happened was okay.

    It doesn't mean ignoring injustice.

    It doesn't mean that trust must immediately return.

    And it doesn't mean you have to place yourself in an unsafe situation.

    Forgiveness means choosing not to allow resentment and bitterness to control your heart.

    Why should we forgive?

    Because we have been forgiven.

    Every one of us has fallen short.

    We have made mistakes.

    We have hurt others.

    We have sinned against God.

    Yet through Jesus Christ, God offers forgiveness and reconciliation.

    The cross reminds us that God's grace is greater than our failures.

    When we understand how much we have been forgiven, we can begin to extend that same grace to others.

    Forgiveness can be difficult.

    Sometimes it is a decision you have to make repeatedly as your emotions catch up with your choice.

    You may need to pray:

    “Lord, help me forgive.”

    And that's okay.

    You don't have to carry the burden alone.

    Give your pain to God.

    Ask Him to heal your heart.

    Ask Him for wisdom about the boundaries you need.

    And ask Him to help you release the bitterness.

    Remember, forgiveness is not weakness.

    It takes courage to choose grace when anger feels easier.

    It takes faith to trust God with the situation.

    It takes strength to stop allowing yesterday's pain to control today's life.

    Maybe there is someone you need to forgive.

    Maybe you need to ask someone else for forgiveness.

    Or maybe you need to receive God's forgiveness for yourself.

    Whatever your situation, don't let bitterness become your prison.

    Take it to Jesus.

    Let His grace heal your heart.

    You may not be able to change what happened, but with God's help, you can choose what happens next.

    Is there someone or something you need to surrender to God and begin releasing through forgiveness today?

  • OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

    DATE: SUNDAY AUGUST 9TH 2026

    TOPIC: THE ANOINTING IS NOT FOR SALE II

    MEMORISE:
    "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give." Matthew 10:8

    BIBLE READING: 1 PETER 5:2-4

    2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

    3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

    4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

    MESSAGE:
    When God anoints a person, He expects him or her to use the anointing to edify His people and spread the gospel. As we see in today's Bible reading, God does not want the anointing to be used for personal gain.

    I often tell the pastors under my supervision that when God uses them to perform a miracle, they must never demand or expect any reward from the person who received the miracle. In today's memory verse, Jesus told his disciples that they had received the anointing freely and they should also give it out freely. The One who performs miracles is God, not the people He has anointed. Therefore, you should never feel entitled to anything from anyone who gets a miracle from God through His anointing upon you. Some self-professing ministers of God even go as far as selling olive oil, water, handkerchiefs, and other similar items that they claim have been anointed to those who come to them for prayers. Such conduct reveals that they are hirelings who are looking to exploit God's sheep rather than being shepherds who should nurture and feed them.

    Beloved, you are not to use the anointing that God bestowed on you to manipulate people. Some people demand that they should be called 'Father in the Lord' just because God has used them to heal headaches. Being anointed does not qualify anyone to become a lord over others; rather, the anointing ought to be used to serve people. Peter knew that such temptations would arise, which was why he told some church leaders in today's Bible reading to feed the flock of God willingly and with a ready mind. He also warned them not to use God's anointing upon their lives for selfish gain.

    Jesus Christ, our perfect example, exemplified how to use the anointing God bestows upon a person. He went about doing good and healing those who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38), and also served His followers (John 13:3-15).

    Beloved, like Jesus, use the anointing you have received from God to bless those He has sent you to; do not use it to exploit or victimise others. Jesus is the Chief Shepherd, and you will give an account of all the things He has given to you one day. Always remember that the anointing you have received from God is a tool to serve Him, edify His people, cater to their needs, and spread the gospel to the ends of the earth.

    KEY POINT:
    The anointing is not meant to be used for personal gain but to serve the will and purpose of the One who gave it.

    AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE

    BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: JEREMIAH 18-21

    HYMN 24: I WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS

    1 I want to be like Jesus,
    So lowly and so meek;
    For no one mark'd an angry word,
    That ever heard Him speak.

    2 I want to be like Jesus,
    So frequently in prayer;
    Alone upon the mountain top,
    He met his Father there.

    3 I want to be like Jesus,
    I never, never find
    That He, though persecuted was
    To any one unkind.

    4 I want to be like Jesus,
    Engaged in doing good;
    So that of me it may be said
    "He hath done what he could."

    5 I want to be like Jesus,
    Who sweetly said to all,
    "Let little children come to Me;"
    I would obey the call.

    6 But oh I'm not like Jesus,
    As any one may see;
    O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace,
    And make me like to Thee.

    PRAYER POINTS ON TODAY'S OPEN HEAVENS DEVOTIONAL.
    Sunday 9th August 2026

    THE ANOINTING IS NOT FOR SALE II

    ‎PRAYER POINTS
    1.Father, thank You for the salvation of my soul and for releasing Your Spirit upon me. Thank You for anointing me to preach the Good News, with signs and wonders following.

    2.Father, thank You for freely giving me Your anointing to heal the sick, to cleanse the lepers, to raise the dead and to cast out devils.

    3.Father, please help me to use Your anointing on me to edify Your people and to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth, and not for personal gains, in Jesus' name.

    4.Father, as it pleases You to use me to perform miracles, please help me never to take the glory nor to covet a reward from the recipient of such miracles, but to return all glory to You at all times, in Jesus' name.

    5.Father, please help me never to be tempted to feel entitled to anything from anyone who gets a miracle from You through Your anointing upon me, in Jesus' name.

    6.Father, please help me and all Your pastors, to be true shepherd over the flocks You have put under us. Help me to nurture and feed them with Your word and not to be a hireling or to exploit them, in Jesus' name.

    7.Father, please help me not to use the anointing You have bestowed on me to manipulate the people; rather than being a lord over them, help me to use the anointing to serve willingly and joyfully, in Jesus' name.

    8.Father, please help me to be like Jesus, Who went about doing good, healing those who are oppressed by the devil, and also to serve those under me, in Jesus' name.

    OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SUNDAY AUGUST 9TH 2026 TOPIC: THE ANOINTING IS NOT FOR SALE II MEMORISE: "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give." Matthew 10:8 BIBLE READING: 1 PETER 5:2-4 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. MESSAGE: When God anoints a person, He expects him or her to use the anointing to edify His people and spread the gospel. KEY POINT: The anointing is not meant to be used for personal gain but to serve the will and purpose of the One who gave it. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A ADEBOYE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: JEREMIAH 18-21 HYMN 24: I WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS 1 I want to be like Jesus, So lowly and so meek; For no one mark'd an angry word, That ever heard Him speak. 2 I want to be like Jesus, So frequently in prayer; Alone upon the mountain top, He met his Father there. 3 I want to be like Jesus, I never, never find That He, though persecuted was To any one unkind. 4 I want to be like Jesus, Engaged in doing good; So that of me it may be said "He hath done what he could." 5 I want to be like Jesus, Who sweetly said to all, "Let little children come to Me;" I would obey the call. 6 But oh I'm not like Jesus, As any one may see; O gentle Saviour, send Thy grace, And make me like to Thee. • The evidence was in the pottery.

    For generations Sodom was treated as mythology — a city destroyed by God in Genesis 19, possibly symbolic, probably invented, certainly not something that left physical evidence behind in the archaeological record.

    Then a team of archaeologists spent fifteen years excavating a Bronze Age site called Tall el-Hammam in the Jordan valley of modern Jordan, just northeast of the Dead Sea — in the exact geographic region where Genesis locates the cities of the plain.

    Their findings, published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Scientific Reports in 2021 and authored by a team of more than twenty scientists from multiple disciplines, described something that changed the terms of the conversation.

    The excavation revealed a prosperous, densely populated Middle Bronze Age city with sophisticated architecture and a population estimated in the tens of thousands — suddenly and violently destroyed around 1650 BC in a single catastrophic event.

    The evidence for what caused the destruction was unlike anything previously found at an ancient Middle Eastern site. Building materials had been melted. Pottery had been vitrified — converted to glass by temperatures in excess of what any ancient human technology could produce. Roof clay was found that had been instantly transformed by temperatures reaching roughly 1500 degrees Celsius or higher.

    The destruction layer contained shocked quartz — minerals deformed by enormous instantaneous pressure — and tiny spherules of melted metals, including platinum, consistent with material falling from a cosmic impact or airburst event.

    The scientists concluded that the most consistent explanation was a low-altitude airburst from a small asteroid or comet fragment, exploding above or near the city and releasing energy vastly exceeding any ancient volcanic or human cause.

    The city was abandoned. The entire region showed no significant resettlement for several centuries.

    A cosmic airburst. In the right location. At the right time. Destroying everything. Followed by centuries of abandonment.
