This means that regardless of the circumstances our satisfaction is Him. This was expressed in a very practical way by a number of people in the Bible. Abram, after his victory over the kings, took none of the booty so that only God would receive the honor; he was told by God, “I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” David, when he went out against Goliath, went out not in his own strength but in the reality that the Lord was his portion. Enoch walked with God and was no more because he pleased God; the Lord was his portion. When the disciples were asked by the Lord if they too wanted to leave, Peter responded, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” The Lord was their portion. Mary, when she sat listening to the Lord at His feet, and later when she poured out her alabaster box full of precious ointment on the Lord without a word, declared that the Lord was her portion. The Levites, instead of receiving land, were told that the Lord was their portion. Habakkuk, reflecting on the barren conditions in which he found himself, proclaimed that despite the circumstances he would rejoice in the Lord; his joy was in the God of his salvation (Hab. 3:17–18). The Lord was his portion. The beloved in Song of Songs declared, “my beloved is mine, and I am his”; and also expressed “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine” (Song 2:16; 6:3). But as she enjoyed him more she demonstrated her delight in her portion: “I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me” (7:10). She was no longer thinking of herself but of her beloved, giving herself totally to him, her portion. Hello, I would like to share with you the message from 20 August 2026 from “The Good Seed” daily calendar. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:17) The caterpillar A manager was proud of his achievements, having climbed a long way up the career ladder.  One morning, he noticed a caterpillar in his garden attempting to climb a wooden pole. Would it reach the top? Fascinated by the insect’s efforts, he thought to himself, “Look at how hard I’ve worked to reach the top. Look at the toil I’ve endured! But now I’ve made it. Now I’m at the top.”  Lost in thought, he continued to watch the caterpillar. By now, it had reached the top of the pole. Green leaves? Nowhere to be found! So, it turned around and crawled back down. This made the successful man reflect: “Has my success truly brought me happiness? Am I really happy?”  “No,” he had to admit. Like the hungry caterpillar, he had found nothing to satisfy his deepest desires, nothing of lasting and eternal value.  Christ once asked His disciples, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Matthew 16:26).  He also said, “Come to Me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29). Whoever comes to the Lord Jesus finds forgiveness of sins, peace and eternal life. And that is the foundation for a life with meaning and purpose, hand in hand with God. Wednesday 18 August 2026 Bible Study Take up your cross and follow Jesus Getting Started: What does the title of this Bible Study mean to you? Has Jesus called every Christian to take up their cross and follow Him? Bible Exploration: 1. Mark 8:34-37. Jesus used the image of carrying the cross to set the example of what ultimate submission He would require of His followers. Jesus is not against pleasure, and He wasn't saying we should seek needless pain. He was talking about the heroic effort needed to follow Him every moment and do His work, even when it's difficult, and even when there were no tangible rewards. Jesus didn't teach self-denial so we would be miserable, but for His Name and Kingdom. Taking up your cross will require sacrifice and possible pain, but it will lead to a life of service to God and to others, and rewards that are out of this world. Taking up your cross is an act of sacrifice, surrender, and submission to whatever God asks of you. 2. The taking up of our cross, and the laying down of our lives, is for Jesus and His Gospel. We should not just be willing to lay down our lives - we should be constantly laying down our lives for Jesus and His Gospel. Nothing can compare to what we gain when we follow Jesus. 3. Romans 6:12,13. How does God help us to not let sin reign in our lives, and be an instrument of righteousness? 1st Peter 4:1,2. How do we arm ourselves with the same mind as Jesus? How does suffering in the flesh help us to stop sinning? How do we stop living in the flesh controlled by lusts, but for the will of God? 4. 2nd Corinthians 10:4,5. How are we supposed to handle spiritual warfare? How do we pull down strongholds, cast down arguments, and bring every thought into obedience to Christ? 5. John 15:18. How does God help us handle the hate and ridicule of the world that is against God? John 16:2. How does God help us handle the fear of people and what they might do? John 7:7. Why does the world hate Jesus and you? 6. Matthew 5:11,12. What are some important things to remember about the persecution of Christians? Galatians 1:8. What is the message of this verse? 2 Timothy 3:1. What will happen in the last days? 2nd Timothy 3:12. How do we know we will be persecuted? 2 Timothy 3:13. OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: THURSDAY 20TH AUGUST 2026 TOPIC: GOD'S COVENANT OF PROSPERITY MEMORIZE: "But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day." Deuteronomy 8:18 (KJV) BIBLE READING: JOB 36:11-12 11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. 12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge. MESSAGE: When you enter into a covenant with the Owner of the earth and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1), the One who owns all the gold and the silver (Haggai 2:8), He will prosper you and add no sorrow to it (Proverbs 10:22). The devil often lures people into entering into a covenant with him by promising them great wealth. However, such prosperity always comes with many sorrows. I recall the story of a man who went to a herbalist and entered into a covenant with demonic forces so that he could become incredibly wealthy for seven years, after which he would die. He swallowed a charm the herbalist gave him, but he didn't get rich; instead, he had a seven-year countdown to his death. A few days before the seven years expired, the man ran into the church and told us his story. We told him to give his life to Jesus Christ, and He would protect him. He agreed, and we prayed a simple prayer with him. Right there, in the presence of everyone in the church, he vomited what he had swallowed. We rejoiced with him, and for a while after that, he attended church services regularly. After some time, however, he stopped coming, so we decided to conduct a follow-up. When we visited him, he said that the herbalist had told him he had swallowed the first charm incorrectly, so he gave him another one to swallow. Before long, he became wealthy. When the seven-year period stipulated by the covenant was close to expiring, he thought to himself, "The covenant is here in Nigeria. I will travel to London, and the demons won't be able to reach me there." Unfortunately, he died on a plane as he flew to London. Only God's covenant of prosperity will make a fellow rich and add no sorrow with it. Malachi 3:10 is a vital part of God's covenant of prosperity. When you pay your tithe, God will open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing upon you that will be so great that you will not have enough room to contain it. Furthermore, Proverbs 3:9-10 encourages us to honour God with our firstfruits. God doesn't need money; He can provide for anything He wants to do, but He asks to be honoured. Beloved, once you are in covenant with God, He will always provide for you and make sure that you never lack. Standing Firm in Christ Think about a massive, ancient oak tree. When a violent storm hits, the tree doesn’t topple over. Why? Because underneath the soil lies a hidden, sprawling network of roots that dig deep into the earth, anchoring it firmly to the ground. Paul uses this exact imagery to describe how we are meant to live out our Christian faith. He reminds us that the way we started our journey with Jesus—by simple, humble faith—is the exact same way we must continue it every single day. Spiritual growth isn’t about discovering hidden secrets or chasing after the latest cultural trends; it is about sinking our roots deeper into the person of Jesus Christ. When our roots are firmly planted in His Word, we find the stability we need to survive life's storms. We are "built up" and "established." This means our faith isn't fragile or easily shaken by doubt, unexpected trials, or deceptive philosophies (Ephesians 4:14). Instead, we become strong, steady, and secure in our identity. Lifeline Today Thursday August 20 Choices and Changes Who are those who fear the Lord? He will show them the path they should choose. Psalm 25:12 (NLT) Choices determine destiny. The ability to make a choice is a gift God has given every living human being. Every choice you make acts as a building block for life changes. Small daily decisions compound into major life transformations, shaping your health, career, and happiness over time. Choosing short-term comfort can lead to long-term struggle, while discipline brings future rewards. Everything in life reflects the choices you make in life. If you have chosen something, you will consequently get the results that will adhere to it. If you have made bad choices in the past, you can turn to God in repentance to resist future temptation. Life is too short to allow yourself to be an inmate in the prison of bad choices and weak decisions. Be guided by the Word and the Spirit in making your choices. This is your day. Wisdom Fountain: “It’s choice—not chance—that determines your destiny.” Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom to make righteous choices and the courage to embrace the changes they bring.
