DAILY BREAD FELLOWSHIP DBF-001-030 Today’s Scripture John 2:9 (ESV) “When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.” Opening the Scriptures The servants had done exactly what Jesus commanded. They filled the jars with water. They drew from them. Then they carried what they had drawn to the master of the feast. Now John tells us what had happened. The water had become wine. There is no elaborate description of the miracle. John does not tell us when or how the transformation occurred. He simply states the fact. Jesus had done what no servant could do. The servants could carry the water. They could fill the jars. They could take what Jesus provided to the master of the feast. But only Christ possessed the power to transform the water into wine. There is another fascinating detail. The master of the feast did not know where the wine had come from. But the servants knew. They had witnessed what happened because they had been obedient to Christ. Living God’s Word Today There is an important distinction here for every Christian. God calls us to serve Him faithfully, but we must never confuse our service with His power. We can preach the Gospel, but we cannot give someone a new heart. We can teach Scripture, but we cannot force someone to believe it. We can encourage a struggling person, but we cannot transform that person’s life. We can plant. We can water. But God gives the growth. That truth should produce humility in every Christian ministry. Whenever lives are changed, sinners repent, churches grow stronger, families are restored, or people come to understand God’s Word, we must resist the temptation to take credit for what only God can accomplish. We are servants. Christ is Lord. The servants at Cana had an extraordinary privilege. They knew where the wine had come from because they had been close enough to Christ to hear His command and obedient enough to carry it out. There is a lesson there for us. Faithful service often allows us to witness God’s work from a perspective others may never see. Someone else may see only the result. The servant remembers the empty jars. The servant remembers carrying the water. The servant knows that the power did not come from him. Therefore, when God uses your service for His purposes, never say: “Look what I accomplished.” Instead say: “Look what Christ has done.” Question for Today When God accomplishes something through your service, who receives the glory? Respond: “All glory belongs to God.”

MESSAGE: In (1 Kings 1:1-49), one of King David's sons decided to crown himself king by staging a coup to overthrow his father. Solomon's mother was informed of the development, so she went to David and reminded him that he had promised that her son would succeed him as king. That same day, Solomon was crowned king meaning that Israel had three kings on that fateful day: David, Solomon, and the son who decided to make himself king. Solomon might not even have been aware of the events that led to his coronation; however, because his mother rose and entreated the king on his behalf, he was crowned king. There are certain things that children might miss if their parents don't rise to pray for them. A child may not know his or her left from right and may not even be qualified for an exalted position; however, his or her parents' prayers can elevate that child into that position. The authority that parents have over their children, both naturally and spiritually, is great, and they must learn to use it effectively. Any parent who does not pray for his or her child is like a mother hen who watches as a hawk carries her chick away, leaving the chick to fight for itself. The chick lacks sufficient strength to fight a hawk; however, if its mother joins in the fight, it would have a better chance of being saved. If you are a parent, do not keep quiet over your children's destiny so that the devil will not tamper with it. Cry out to God to show your children mercy early in their lives. In Psalm 90:14, Moses prayed that God should satisfy him and the children of Israel early with His mercy so that they would rejoice and be glad all the days of their lives. He knew that the secret to lasting joy and gladness was to start enjoying God's mercy early in life. Beloved, if you are a parent, do not neglect your spiritual responsibility over your children. Like Moses, ask God to show your children His mercy early in their lives. Let your prayers position them for opportunities early in life. Your children will begin to enjoy supernatural favour that some people only get to experience as adults if you pray for them now. THE TRUE BREAD OF HEAVEN TEACHING SERIES THE MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (Part 12) ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: Jude 1:20 (NKJV) “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.” Additional Scripture Reading: Acts 2:1–4; 1 Corinthians 14:2–4, 14–15; Ephesians 6:18; Romans 8:26–27 We were scheduled to conclude our series on the Ministry of the Holy Spirit today, but by the grace of God, we shall look at two more vital dimensions—this week and next Sunday. Another significant manifestation of the Holy Spirit's coming upon the disciples was the ability to speak in other tongues. On the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended upon them, they began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Speaking in tongues is not given to believers for showing off, competition, or spiritual superiority. It is a spiritual gift and a means through which the believer can commune with God and be spiritually strengthened. The Apostle Paul teaches that the one who speaks in a tongue speaks to God and that such prayer edifies the individual. Therefore, praying in the Spirit has an important place in the believer's personal spiritual life. Jude likewise exhorts believers to build themselves up on their most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit. This reveals that praying in the Spirit is one of the ways through which we strengthen and build our spiritual lives. There are times when we may not know what to pray for as we ought, but as we yield to the Holy Spirit, He helps us in our weakness and enables us to pray beyond the limitations of our natural understanding. Child of God, do not treat spiritual things as instruments of display. The purpose of every spiritual manifestation is to glorify God and edify His people. If God has given you the grace to pray in the Spirit, cultivate it with humility, reverence, and consistency. Let your prayer life not be governed by what people think about you, but by your desire to grow deeper in fellowship with God and to be strengthened in your walk with Him. When anything else occupies your heart, obeying God becomes difficult. Faithful obedience, as seen in Abraham's prompt response to God's command, requires trust and surrender, not rationalisation. Abraham obeyed God and was willing to sacrifice his only Son, the promised child. Like Jesus, our ultimate example, we must obey even when it is complex and costly. You must give up something of worth. Are you obeying God's instructions, or hesitating? Can you let go of a relationship that you hold so dearly to safeguard your faith? If you struggle, ask God for a heart that responds promptly and faithfully. *REFLECTION:* Obedience comes with blessings. *PRAYER:* Father, give me the grace to obey You promptly. ED.ii. WHEN WE COME TOGETHER "What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up." - 1 Corinthians 14:26 When we come together, we call it a church meeting or service. In a meeting there should be room for the ministry of God's servant, so the church is educated and grows. But it is also important that the entire congregation participates. If you are a member of a church, then you are not a visitor nor a guest, but a member of the Body of Christ. The intention is that every member participates in the meeting. As the congregation consists of several people, it could become hyperactive. When everyone participates at the same time, it then becomes chaotic. Order in church Paul gives us insights about these things in his letters to the Corinthian church. Corinth was a young church with many activities. That is why they needed help with the order during the church service. They had to learn how such a meeting should be because they had recently been born again. There were gifts of the Holy Spirit in the church, but they did not know which gift to give priority to. They also did not have much experience in dealing with new church members. They did not know how to resolve certain disagreements, etc. Paul wanted to help them. We have gained knowledge about these matters because Paul wrote and explained how everything should work. Paul says that 'the church may be built up' (1 Corinthians 14:26) and in 1 Corinthians 14:40 he says: 'but everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.' Nobody is to have a hidden agenda. Let us live like the first church did. 'They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer' (Acts 2:42). https://www.theblessingdevotional.com 2. Evening Prayer for today. EP.i. Evening Prayer And whatsoever ye do, do [it] heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; ⏤ Colossians 3:23 God does nothing except in response to believing prayer. ⏤ John Wesley O God, by the teaching and example of Your dear Son, You have warned us to work Your works while it is day, before the night comes. Give us the spirit of earnestness and diligence so that we may faithfully do the work You’ve given us. Save us from laziness and sloth. Help us to understand the true meaning of life. Enable us by Your grace to do everything with all our might, whatever tasks come our way. We ask Your forgiveness tonight for where we’ve failed to fulfill our duties. Give us grace and wisdom to use every talent You’ve entrusted to us, so that it may bring blessings and good into the world, and honor and glory to Your name. May we be faithful in every relationship in life. In our home, help us to fulfill our duties so that no part of our home life suffers. Help us to be faithful in all our business, social, church, state, and worldly responsibilities. We also ask that You teach us how to make all our work Christian work—business for Jesus. Teach us how to do everything for Your glory. Let not our worldly activities steal our hearts away from our heavenly Master. Don’t let us become worldly while we are busy with the things we must do to provide for our bodies. Make all our work a means of grace to us. May we learn to do everything for Jesus. Then we will find a blessing in every task and duty. Grant that in all things we may honor and glorify You, forgetting ourselves. We ask this in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. DAILY BREAD FELLOWSHIP DBF-001-029 Today’s Scripture John 2:8 (ESV) “And he said to them, ‘Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.’ So they took it.” Opening the Scriptures The servants had obeyed Jesus and filled the six stone jars with water up to the brim. Then Jesus gave another command. “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” Notice what John tells us next: “So they took it.” There is no recorded argument. There is no demand for an explanation. There is simply obedience. The servants had put water into those jars. They knew what had been placed there. Yet Jesus now told them to draw from the jars and take it to the man responsible for the wedding feast. They still did not know what Jesus was doing. But they obeyed what He said. Living God’s Word Today There are times when obeying Christ requires us to move forward without knowing what the result will be. We often want certainty before obedience. We want God to show us exactly how everything will work before we act. But Scripture does not teach us to trust our ability to understand every circumstance. It teaches us to trust God. This does not mean Christians should act carelessly or treat every personal feeling as though it were a command from God. That would be dangerous. Our obedience must be governed by what God has actually revealed in His Word. When Scripture speaks clearly, however, we should not delay obedience simply because we cannot see what God will accomplish through it. We forgive because Christ commands us to forgive. We speak truth because God commands truthfulness. We love because Christ commands us to love. We share the Gospel because Christ has commanded His people to make disciples. We serve faithfully because we belong to Him. The servants at Cana could not change water into wine. Their responsibility was much simpler. Jesus commanded. They obeyed. What happened next depended entirely upon the power of Christ. This protects us from two serious mistakes. We must not become passive and refuse to do what God commands. But neither should we imagine that the results depend entirely upon us. Obedience belongs to us. The power and the results belong to God. Whatever responsibility Christ has placed before you today, carry it out faithfully according to His Word. Then trust Him with what follows. Question for Today Are you willing to obey Christ even when you cannot yet see what He will do? Respond: “Lord Jesus, I will trust You and obey Your Word.”
