King Jehoahaz follows the sinful pattern established by Jeroboam, leading the nation away from wholehearted devotion to the Lord. As a result, God allows Syria to oppress Israel, demonstrating once again that persistent disobedience brings painful consequences. Yet even in judgment, God's mercy shines through. When Jehoahaz humbles himself and seeks the Lord, God hears his prayer and provides deliverance. Although the nation has repeatedly turned from Him, the Lord responds because of His covenant compassion. He remembers His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and refuses to abandon His people completely. The chapter reveals that God's discipline is never intended simply to punish but to bring His people back to Himself. His mercy continues reaching toward them despite their repeated failures. The narrative then shifts to the final days of Elisha. As the prophet prepares to leave this world, King Joash visits him seeking guidance. Elisha gives him a symbolic act involving arrows, demonstrating that God is willing to grant victory over Syria. However, when Joash strikes the ground only a few times instead of fully obeying the prophet's instruction, he limits the extent of the victory God intended to give. This moment illustrates that faith often determines the measure of our experience of God's blessings. The Lord was willing to grant complete victory, but the king's halfhearted response reflected limited confidence in God's promise. Even after Elisha's death, God's power continues to be displayed. A man is restored to life after coming into contact with Elisha's bones, demonstrating that the Lord's power did not end with His servant's earthly ministry. God remains alive and active even after His faithful servants have finished their work. Theologically, 2 Kings 13 reveals God's persistent mercy toward undeserving people. It also teaches that God invites wholehearted faith rather than hesitant obedience. The chapter reminds us that God's power never depends upon human personalities but upon His own sovereign presence. This chapter points to Christ, whose resurrection power brings eternal life. Unlike Elisha, whose ministry eventually ended, Jesus lives forever. His resurrection power continues transforming lives, offering complete victory over sin and death to all who trust in Him. For believers today, 2 Kings 13 reminds us that God remains merciful even when we fail. He invites us to seek Him with wholehearted faith and trust His promises completely. In Christ, we are called to pursue Him without reservation, believing that His power is sufficient for every battle and His grace is greater than every failure. 2 Kings 14 The Blessing and Danger of Success 2 Kings 14 records the reigns of Amaziah in Judah and Jeroboam II in Israel, revealing both the blessings of obedience and the dangers that often accompany success. Amaziah begins his reign by doing what is right in the sight of the Lord, though not with complete devotion like David. His early obedience brings stability and military success as God grants him victory over his enemies. However, success gradually gives way to pride. Rather than remaining humble and dependent upon the Lord, Amaziah begins to overestimate his own strength. After experiencing victory, he challenges the northern kingdom to battle. His actions are driven by self-confidence rather than God's direction. The king of Israel wisely warns Amaziah against unnecessary conflict, using a parable to expose the danger of pride. Amaziah ignores the warning, proceeds into battle, and suffers a humiliating defeat. Jerusalem is plundered, its walls are broken down, and the king's confidence is shattered. The chapter reminds us that pride often follows success when gratitude and dependence upon God are neglected. The narrative then shifts to Jeroboam II, whose reign brings territorial expansion and prosperity to Israel. Surprisingly, God grants these blessings despite the nation's continued spiritual rebellion. His kindness reflects His compassion for a suffering people rather than approval of their sinful practices. The Lord delays judgment because of His mercy, giving the nation additional opportunity to repent. Throughout the chapter, God's sovereignty is evident. He raises kingdoms, grants victories, and allows defeats according to His purposes. Human success is never independent of His hand, and earthly prosperity should never be mistaken for spiritual health. Theologically, 2 Kings 14 teaches that success becomes dangerous when it produces pride instead of gratitude. It also reveals God's patience and mercy, demonstrating that He often shows kindness even to those who do not deserve it. Yet His blessings should lead people toward repentance rather than greater self-reliance. This chapter points to Christ, who perfectly modeled humility despite possessing all authority. Unlike Amaziah, Jesus never allowed success or power to produce pride. Instead, He humbled Himself completely, becoming obedient even to death on the cross. His kingdom is established not through self-exaltation but through perfect submission to the Father's will. For believers today, 2 Kings 14 reminds us to remain humble during seasons of blessing and success. Every victory we experience comes from God's gracious hand and should deepen our dependence upon Him rather than increase our confidence in ourselves. In Christ, we are called to walk in humility, giving Him glory for every blessing while continually seeking His wisdom and direction. True greatness is found not in self-exaltation but in faithful obedience to our Lord and King. Galatians 2 — Justified by Faith in the Christ Alone Galatians chapter 2 continues Paul's defense of the true gospel by showing that the message he preached was fully affirmed by the other apostles and centered completely on the Christ, the Son of God. The chapter confronts one of the greatest dangers facing the early church—the temptation to add human works to the finished work of the Christ. Through both personal testimony and direct confrontation, Paul demonstrates that God's redemptive plan has always been based upon grace received through faith rather than human effort. The chapter begins with Paul describing a meeting with the leaders of the church in Jerusalem. Rather than discovering disagreement, they recognized that the same gospel had been entrusted to all of them. The unity they shared was not built upon personal preference or tradition but upon the truth of the Christ. This reminds believers that genuine unity is always centered on the Son of God and His gospel. Christian living flourishes where believers are united around the truth rather than divided by human opinions. A significant issue arises concerning attempts to require additional religious practices as necessary for salvation. Paul firmly refuses to compromise because doing so would undermine the freedom believers have received through the Christ. The redemptive plan cannot be improved by human effort. The Son of God has already accomplished everything necessary for salvation through His death and resurrection. To add requirements to His finished work is to diminish the sufficiency of His grace. The chapter then records a public confrontation between Paul and Peter. Peter had been living consistently with the truth of the gospel but later withdrew from fellowship with Gentile believers because of fear of criticism. Paul recognized that this behavior communicated a false message about the gospel itself. Christian living requires consistency between what we believe and how we live. The Christ calls His followers to stand for truth even when doing so is difficult. This confrontation was never about personal rivalry but about protecting the purity of the gospel. The redemptive plan unites believers from every background into one family through the Son of God. Any behavior that rebuilds barriers which the Christ has removed contradicts the very message of salvation. The theological center of the chapter is the declaration that people are justified by faith in the Christ and not by works of the Law. This truth forms the foundation of the Christian life. The Law reveals humanity's need for salvation, but it cannot produce righteousness. Only the Son of God can declare sinners righteous because He alone fulfilled the Law perfectly and bore its penalty on behalf of humanity. Christian living begins with this unshakable foundation of grace. Paul then explains that believers have been united with the Christ in His death and now live through His life. The old life centered on self has been crucified, and a new life has begun through faith in the Son of God. This is one of the clearest descriptions of the believer's new identity. The redemptive plan not only forgives sin but creates an entirely new way of living through the power of the Christ. The chapter concludes by affirming that if righteousness could be achieved through human effort, the death of the Christ would have been unnecessary. But because salvation comes entirely through God's grace, the cross stands as the complete and sufficient work of the Son of God. Every believer rests securely in what He has accomplished rather than in personal performance. Throughout this chapter, the Christ remains the center of everything. He is the source of justification, the foundation of unity, the giver of spiritual life, and the fulfillment of God's redemptive plan. The gospel neither begins with grace and continues through works nor mixes divine grace with human achievement. From beginning to end, salvation is the work of the Son of God. For believers today, this chapter calls us to stand firmly upon the truth of the gospel. Christian living is rooted in faith, not performance; in grace, not legalism; and in the finished work of the Christ, not our own efforts. We are reminded that our identity is found entirely in the Son of God, who loved us and gave Himself for us. 1 Corinthians 4:1 NASB "This is the way any person is to regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God." Many people who have been deceived into believing false Gospels, those that add any human effort to salvation, which is a gift from God to all those who place their faith in Jesus alone, think that they are servants of Christ because they go about spreading their false gospels. BUT they believe in a different gospel and follow a different christ. Ministers of the true gospel are "stewards of the mysteries of God." The word "steward" was translated from the Greek word οἰκονόμος, pronounced oy-kon-om'-os, and it means, according to Strong's Exhaustive Dictionary, "a house distributor (that is manager) or overseer that is an employee in that capacity; by extension a fiscal agent (treasurer); figuratively 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 (𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗹): - chamberlain governor steward." Preachers of the true gospel preach about the mysteries of God. 👇👇👇 1 Corinthians 2:7-13 NASB "but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; [8] the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; [9] but just as it is written: “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the human heart, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” [10] For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. [11] For who among people knows the thoughts of a person except the spirit of the person that is in him? So also the thoughts of God no one knows, except the Spirit of God. [12] Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God. The great mystery is this: that God would so love us that he withheld nothing from us, even offering up the body and blood of his own son for us, so that if we'd only believe in Jesus and his finished work at Calvary as being sufficient for our salvation, that we would be given the righteousness of God in Christ, salvation, redemption, justification, sanctification and inherit eternal life through no effort of our own or any of our own works through obedience to the commandments. THE FAITH THAT JUSTIFIES US 📖 Romans 4:5 "And to the one who does not work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness." Paul shows that justification before God is not the reward for our works, but a gift received through faith. Abraham himself was declared righteous because he believed God. We cannot buy God's favor through our merits. Faith leads us to recognize our inadequacy and to rely entirely on the one who justifies the sinner. God does not ask us to become perfect before coming to him; he calls us to come to him by faith so that he may transform our lives. True faith does not say, "I am good enough for God," but, "God is good enough to save me." Our works are important, but they are the fruit of a living faith, never the price of our justification. Stop trying to earn what God wants to give you by grace. Believe in Christ, remain devoted to Him, and let your faith then produce a fulfilling life. Lord, deliver me from relying on my own merits. Who are Israelites, to whom pertain … the giving of the law. Romans 9:4 ɴᴋᴊᴠ Israel was a nation and a people who were under the Law of God. It was given to them by God through Moses, who was their mediator, as well as through angelic mediation (Gal. 3:19; Ex. 19–20; 34:1–9). This was a privilege only they had. Other nations had their laws and national constitutions, but they were man-made. Not so for Israel! The apostle Paul mentioned this privilege earlier in the Epistle to the Romans when he wrote, “What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God” (Rom. 3:1–2). The “oracles of God” were the Old Testament Scriptures, and in particular, the books of Moses: the Law. Israel had an advantage over other nations in that they had written, inspired communications from the living God, a wonderful privilege. These oracles showed them how to conduct their nation and order their personal lives. But herein lay the problem: “the carnal mind,” or the flesh, “is not subject to the law of God” (8:7). In fact, one of the purposes of the law was to show man that he is a sinner (4:15; 5:20; 7:7, 13; Gal. 3:19–24). Israel was the “test case” to prove this. Their history revealed continual insubjection to God’s law. Righteousness could not come through the law (Rom. 10:4), only through faith in God’s provision of grace in Christ. This is important to understand because some teach we are under the law. It is said, “We are not under law for justification but are for sanctification.” However, we have died to the law and spiritual fruit comes, not through the law or legalism, but through the Spirit of God (6:14; 7:6; 2 Cor. 3:18). "WORKING IN THE KINGDOM (2)" ‘To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given...’ Matthew 25:29 NLT YOUR VALUE in a job is determined by the value you add to the job. When a Christian goes to work each day, God holds them accountable for adding, enhancing and improving things in their workplace. Jesus told the story of three men who were each given money. One was given five bags of it, another two, and another one. The first two ‘…went and traded with them, and gained…’ (Matthew 25:16 NAS). They showed skill, initiative, and made 100 percent profit. So they were commended by their master. But the third man just punched the clock, called in sick, didn’t train, try, dare, or do. So his job review didn’t go too well. And Jesus said something that ought to make us all sit up and take notice: ‘To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.’ That means if your attitude and work ethic are poor, you’re in trouble with God. So, let’s stop and think about your job. If Jesus were your supervisor, would you do your work any differently? How would you answer the phone, type documents, treat your employees, or teach your pupils if Jesus were checking your work? As a citizen of God’s kingdom you need to periodically review your attitude on the job, solicit feedback on how you can grow, demonstrate love and grace to those you work with, make your company profitable, and enjoy the work you do. The promises of being "revived after two days" and "restored on the third day" symbolised God's readiness to bring spiritual renewal to those who returned to Him.* *Christians today have important lessons to learn. True healing, whether it is healing from guilt, broken relationships, spiritual dryness or backsliding, begins with repentance. It is not just about feeling remorse but about acknowledging your sins, seeking God's forgiveness, and making a decisive turn toward Him.* *In our modern world, temptations and sin often pull people away from God. Luther’s truth was Justification by Faith. Wesley’s was Sanctification. The Baptists taught the premillennial coming of Christ. The Missionary Alliance taught Divine Healing. The Pentecostal outpouring has restored the Baptism of the Holy Ghost to its rightful place. But, the next great outpouring is going to be marked by all these other truths plus such a demonstration of the nine gifts of the Spirit as the world, not even the Apostolic world, has ever witnessed before. This revival will be short and will be the last before the Rapture of the Church.” The consolation and joy is that whatever great and wonderful experiences we have enjoyed in the past can still be restored by God if man does the needful. This is the message of Hosea to Israel and the godly. *1. Call to Return to God* a. Adam, representing the man of all ages, started with God, but departed from God and many woes followed. In order to vacate the woes, the message of God is simple, return to God. All the woes, challenges, calamities, anguish, backslidings and challenges of man have only one divine prescription: Return to God. Returning to God requires turning or change. Man is generally, reluctant to change. This is one of Newton's Laws of Motion. Willingness to turn is generally, where the problem of man lies. The turning to God requires acceptance of wrongs towards God, decisions with appropriate steps and asking God for forgiveness without self justification. It involves deliberate action of repentance. Repentance from what cause the loss of good old blessings, including repentance from sin, unforgiving spirit, bitterness against neighbours and perhaps God, love of the world, selective obedience to the command of God in any area etc., are just what God is looking for before He pours down His blessings afresh. God did not see that turning or repentance in Adam and Eve. Both of them were busy giving excuses and blaming each other. Neither fully admitted his/her obvious wrong and neither fully repented and returned to God. The repercussion was that they never got the blessing they lost back. They were driven from the beautiful, blessed and blissful garden. If they had returned to God with words of soberness and repentance, the story would have been different for them and the whole humanity. All lost blessings from God are only returned after turning and repentance from the root cause. b. The message of God is the same. *"Come, and let us return unto the LORD"*. Stop the blame game. Stop the murmuring and complain. The promise of God for the repentant is valid at all times and in all generations. *"For he hath torn, and he will heal us"*. When your garment of glory is torn, when your shining regalia of blessings is torn, when the source of your joy is torn, the immediate and uncompromisable demand of God and solution is to turn to God. *"He hath smitten, and he will bind us up"*. This is a word of assurance for those who take the courage to turn from their evil ways, carelessness and compromise. *Question* Assess your life where you have departed from God and your old consecration to God and His word. Are you willing to turn? Start today. *2. Comforting Revival Through Grace* a. Has Israel not gone too far to an irredeemable damnable and bitter experience? God, through Hosea says NO. When there is possibility and willingness to turn, the promise to restore and revive is always unbreakable. Jesus said, *"the scripture cannot be broken."* Hosea used the picture of Calvary and the resurrection of Jesus on the third day to show the reality and restoration of revival for dead bones. *"After two days will he revive us"*. After two days is the third day including all other days after the third day. It shows the beginning of revival on the third day and the continuity of revival after the third day. *"In the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight"*. The resurrection of Jesus Christ has assurably made possible the restoration of any dead soul and experiences even when it appears they are already stinking spiritually in the grave. b. The parable of dead bones in Ezekiel 37 shows that revival and restoration is possible when the Word of God is given a prominent and final say in the life of an individual, family, church or nation. All the revivals the Church has experienced in different ages at a time of total darkness were as a result of giving the Word of God the first and unquestionably place. The same applies to any individual that needs revival. Taking the Word of God at face values drives to repentance including burdened and persistent prayers. Once this is done, the rain will definitely fall and there will be repentance and restoration. *Question* Are you desirous of revival and restoration of past glories in your life? From the explanation above, what is your decision? *3. Continuous Refreshment unto Glory* a. Why blessings are lost and revival is gone is because of lack of continuity in the Old faith and consecration that brought the revival in the first place. Jesus said, *"If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples in deed"*. Disciples in deeds are different from disciples in the mouth to profession. Continuity is the key. *"Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD"*. Continuous following leads to deeper knowledge and deeper knowledge is manifested by continuous following. *"His going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth"*. The former rain is to prepare the ground for planting while the latter rain is to prepare the crop for harvesting. It is the harvesting that is generally seen, but not the planting time of rigour and sacrifice. He that sows, though not seen by many should sow in hope because harvesting is certain. Rain of the Holy Spirit is needed to sow the seed of repentance, intercession and consecration while rain of the Holy Spirit is also needed to enjoy the harvest of refreshment, restoration and revival. Continuity in sowing the seed of the Word of God and wetting it with tears of prayers and acts of consecration will bring the abundant rain and there will be overflowing joy, revival and restoration again. *Question* Are you determined to continue getting deeper into the Word, prayer and consecration without giving up until the rain falls and there are blessings and visitations from heaven again? *Prayer Points* 1.Lord, open my eyes to areas that I need to turn to you afresh and make me willing to pay the price of turning 🙏. 2.Give me the rain of the Spirit that will help me to sow with tears and deeper consecration until the abundant rain falls on my soul, nation and church 🙏. 3.I ask for power and determination to continue seeking your face without giving up and backing out 🙏. 4.Father, send the rain and awaken your Church to true restoration and revival 🙏. *HYMN:* Come Holy Spirit. *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOB 9-12. 2. Romans 3:23-24 NKJV This justification by grace through faith is for as many as those who have been accepted in the beloved by the reason of the redemption made possible by the sacrificial and vicarious death of the LORD Jesus. While you endeavour to follow God’s demands upon your life, and honour Him in your actions and inactions, there are times when you will be found missing the marks of God's righteous commands and demands upon your life, and therefore fall short of His glory, and cannot be justified, but condemned by the law. God in His mercy gives you another opportunity to be reconciled to Him by faith, through the benefits of the redemption that the LORD Jesus' sacrificial and vicarious death on the execution stake at Calvary has wrought for you. You have the good option to accept this gift of redemption by grace, follow the LORD Jesus throughout your life, and become justified. “that woman you put here with me ate so I ate too” above is how we’ve grown so far away. unity in sin is the power of justification. thieves unite with theaves and before you know it shame turns to fame and thrives begin boasting there crimes amungst one another. and the bigger the unity grows the greater the power of justifying. consider a gay man in the 70’s . he hid in the closet. as the unity grew so did the false righteousness until shame became boast . today it’s pride for this reason. all sin grows this way. now a man having sex outside of marriage is of the same devils. the unity of men that have sex outside of marriage had grown so big that men look up to the man who had the most sex. the power of false righteousness had grown tremendously here. but we have all become justified by the ways of the world but can’t see it cuz our sins aren’t as obvious as sex and drugs. but we have all fallen to the world and utilize the products of the world. Jon Gordon says, ‘We fill our minds with thoughts that hold us back, habits that limit us, distractions that derail us, negative people who drain us, fear that paralyses us, time-sappers that sabotage our productivity. We spend so much time and energy on things that don’t matter—we fail to focus on what does matter. We fill up with so many things that generate negative energy, there’s no room for positive energy in our lives.’ Paul writes, ‘…throw off your…former way of life…let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes’ (vv. 22-23 NLT). The clutter you need to lose includes: believing that you’re alone, trying to please everybody, feeling insecure, putting yourself down, needing everybody to like you, jumping to negative conclusions before you know the facts, thinking you’re always right, recalling all the times you messed up, wanting to know how it all turns out, needing to have all the answers, worrying that if you let go of the memorabilia you’ll lose the memories, agonising that you’re not rich enough, good enough or clever enough, surrounding yourself with people who remember the bad times and not the good, making energy-sucking comparisons, viewing life like a movie instead of participating, believing that your best days are over, waiting at all times for the right moment, fearing you will look foolish, focusing on negative type-casting…and anything else you don’t want to pass on to your children. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths._ ( Proverbs 3:5–6) *INTRODUCTION* During the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge (1933–1937), many workers initially feared working hundreds of feet above the water. After several fatal accidents, engineers installed a massive safety net beneath the bridge. Although the net cost a significant amount of money, it saved many lives and gave workers greater confidence to continue their work. What seemed restrictive actually became a means of preservation. Similarly, God's discipline and correction may appear unpleasant or restrictive, but they are expressions of His wisdom and love. Isaiah 28 addresses Judah's misplaced confidence in political alliances rather than in God. Through the prophet, the Lord warned that every false refuge would fail, yet He also revealed that His judgments are purposeful, measured and redemptive. The illustration of the farmer (vv. 23–29) teaches that just as a skilled farmer knows the proper method and timing for cultivating each crop, God perfectly knows how to deal with His people. *For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.* (Hebrews 12:6) God's discipline is never arbitrary; it is guided by infinite wisdom and aimed at producing righteousness. Our heavenly Father knows every detail of our lives. He knows when to comfort, when to correct, when to wait and when to act. What may seem confusing or painful to us is never without purpose in His hands. Sometimes God allows difficult seasons to break the hard soil of pride. At other times He plants seeds of truth, waters them with His grace and patiently waits for spiritual fruit. Even His discipline is measured by perfect wisdom and infinite love. Therefore, let us not resist His work, but submit to it. Let us abandon every false refuge and place our complete confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ—the sure foundation that will never fail. As we trust Him, we will discover that His wisdom is flawless, His discipline is loving and His purposes are always for our good and His glory. *1. The Collapse of False Confidence* a. Judah trusted in deceptive alliances instead of depending on God. Their "covenant with death" would be annulled because no human refuge can replace God's protection. The Bible says: *Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.*(Psalm 20:7) Isaiah describes a bed too short and a covering too narrow, illustrating the insufficiency of human solutions. b. God's judgment is described as His "unusual work," showing that while He is just, He takes no delight in punishing His people. When we build our lives on wealth, influence, intellect or human security instead of Christ, disappointment is inevitable. *Questions* (i) What am I trusting most for my security—God or human resources? (ii) Have I built my life upon Christ, the only sure foundation? *2. The Counsel of Perfect Wisdom* a. Isaiah invites the people to observe the wisdom of a farmer who works with understanding. The farmer knows when to plow, sow and cultivate because God teaches him. The farmer does not plow endlessly; each season has its purpose. *“To everything there is a season.”* (Ecclesiastes 3:1) b. Every action is intended to produce a fruitful harvest. *“No chastening seems to be joyful... nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness.”* (Hebrews 12:11). God knows exactly what we need and when we need it. His timing and methods are always perfect. *Questions* (i) Am I patiently submitting to God's process even when I do not fully understand it? (ii) Do I seek God's wisdom before making important decisions? *3. The Compassion of God's Discipline* a. Our text concludes with the illustration that different crops require different methods of threshing, demonstrating God's wisdom and moderation. The farmer adjusts his methods according to the crop. Likewise, God disciplines each believer wisely and appropriately. God never disciplines beyond what is necessary to accomplish His purpose. b. Isaiah concludes by praising God's wonderful counsel and excellent wisdom. Even when God's dealings are difficult to understand, we can trust that they are always governed by love, wisdom and grace. *Questions* (i) Do I view God's discipline as punishment or as a loving correction designed for my growth? (ii) Am I willing to let God shape my character through His refining work? *Prayer Points* 1. Lord, help me to place my confidence entirely in You and not in human strength or worldly security.🙏 2. The text describes the bed as too short, and the covering too narrow. This tells us that trusting and resting on our own will and self-management will result in regret and gross disappointment. Religion is not enough; true righteousness from Christ must be carefully sought and wisely husbanded.* *Prophet Isaiah compares God's work among the nations to those of a farmer on his soil. The husbandman (farmer) does his work with pains and prudence and handles the plants according to their nature. The Almighty God who gives men this great wisdom is wonderful in counsel and excellent in His working.* *Afflictions are God's threshing instruments to loosen us from the world, to part between us and our chaff, and to prepare us for use. As the occasion requires, the Lord warns, corrects, spares, shows mercy or executes vengeance. How we need to heed God's warning today and not to trust in anything outside Christ. It takes trust and diligence to please God. The children of Israel were once slaves in Egypt. God then led them out of slavery through Moses their leader. Independence means freedom to exercise your human rights. This is the physical meaning. In the spiritual, it is different. Independence means total deliverance from sin and all its influence. No one can become free without knowing and accepting the Truth. This Truth is God's word, which Jesus represents. At other times He plants seeds of truth, waters them with His grace and patiently waits for spiritual fruit. Even His discipline is measured by perfect wisdom and infinite love. Therefore, let us not resist His work, but submit to it. Let us abandon every false refuge and place our complete confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ—the sure foundation that will never fail. As we trust Him, we will discover that His wisdom is flawless, His discipline is loving and His purposes are always for our good and His glory. *1. The Collapse of False Confidence* a. (ii) Have I built my life upon Christ, the only sure foundation? *2. The Counsel of Perfect Wisdom* a. Isaiah invites the people to observe the wisdom of a farmer who works with understanding. The farmer knows when to plow, sow and cultivate because God teaches him. The farmer does not plow endlessly; each season has its purpose. *“To everything there is a season.”* (Ecclesiastes 3:1) b. Every action is intended to produce a fruitful harvest. *“No chastening seems to be joyful... nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness.”* (Hebrews 12:11). God knows exactly what we need and when we need it. His timing and methods are always perfect. *Questions* (i) Am I patiently submitting to God's process even when I do not fully understand it? (ii) Do I seek God's wisdom before making important decisions? *3. The Compassion of God's Discipline* a. Our text concludes with the illustration that different crops require different methods of threshing, demonstrating God's wisdom and moderation. The farmer adjusts his methods according to the crop. Likewise, God disciplines each believer wisely and appropriately. God never disciplines beyond what is necessary to accomplish His purpose. b. Isaiah concludes by praising God's wonderful counsel and excellent wisdom. Even when God's dealings are difficult to understand, we can trust that they are always governed by love, wisdom and grace. *Questions* (i) Do I view God's discipline as punishment or as a loving correction designed for my growth? Jon Gordon says, ‘We fill our minds with thoughts that hold us back, habits that limit us, distractions that derail us, negative people who drain us, fear that paralyses us, time-sappers that sabotage our productivity. We spend so much time and energy on things that don’t matter—we fail to focus on what does matter. After several fatal accidents, engineers installed a massive safety net beneath the bridge. Although the net cost a significant amount of money, it saved many lives and gave workers greater confidence to continue their work. What seemed restrictive actually became a means of preservation. Similarly, God's discipline and correction may appear unpleasant or restrictive, but they are expressions of His wisdom and love. Isaiah 28 addresses Judah's misplaced confidence in political alliances rather than in God. Through the prophet, the Lord warned that every false refuge would fail, yet He also revealed that His judgments are purposeful, measured and redemptive. Therefore, let us not resist His work, but submit to it. Let us abandon every false refuge and place our complete confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ—the sure foundation that will never fail. The children of Israel were once slaves in Egypt. God then led them out of slavery through Moses their leader. Independence means freedom to exercise your human rights. This is the physical meaning. In the spiritual, it is different. Independence means total deliverance from sin and all its influence. No one can become free without knowing and accepting the Truth. This Truth is God's word, which Jesus represents. Jesus is the word of God that was from the beginning, and is forever. *To be free therefore, a sinner must take these steps: Acknowledge his sinfulness. Repent and confess his sins to God. Pray for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Ask Jesus into your heart to be your personal Saviour and Lord.* *Continue with the Truth that sets free by praying every day, reading, meditating on and obeying God's word.
