People had different opinions about Him. Some questioned His identity. Others criticized Him. Some wanted to arrest Him. Yet Jesus continued to teach and proclaim the truth. Then, on the final and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried: «“If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.”» This was more than an invitation for physical water. Jesus was speaking to the deepest thirst of the human heart. The world cannot satisfy the soul. Only Jesus can. ❤️‍🔥 🔥 THREE LESSONS FROM JOHN 7 1️⃣ COME TO JESUS WHEN YOUR SOUL IS THIRSTY. 💧 Jesus said: «“If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” — John 7:37» Everyone experiences a thirst that material things cannot satisfy. You may have money and still be empty. You may have friends and still feel lonely. You may have success and still lack peace. You may have possessions and still desire something more. The soul was created for God. Therefore, don't try to satisfy a spiritual thirst with worldly things. Come to Jesus. He gives peace to the troubled heart. He gives hope to the discouraged. He gives forgiveness to the sinner. He gives purpose to the lost. He gives eternal life to those who believe. ✝️ 🕊️ 2️⃣ THE HOLY SPIRIT FLOWS FROM A LIFE CONNECTED TO CHRIST. 🔥 John 7:38–39 says: «“He that believeth on me... out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”» John explains that Jesus was speaking about the Holy Spirit. God does not want us merely to receive His blessing; He wants His life to flow through us to others. You should not be a container that only receives. You should become a channel that gives. Receive God's love—and show it. Receive His grace—and extend it. Receive His Word—and share it. Receive His comfort—and comfort others. Receive the Gospel—and preach it. A life filled with Christ should become a blessing to others. 🌍🔥 ⚠️ 3️⃣ DON'T ALLOW PEOPLE'S OPINIONS TO KEEP YOU FROM JESUS. John 7 is filled with different opinions about Jesus. Some said He was a good man. Others said He deceived people. Some recognized that He was the Christ. Others questioned where He came from. Even among the people, there was division because of Him. This reminds us that people will always have opinions about Jesus. But your salvation cannot be based on people's opinions. You must personally know Christ. Don't reject Jesus because someone else rejected Him. Don't abandon your faith because someone mocks you. Don't compromise because you want people's approval. Know whom you believe. ❤️‍🔥 📖 SEARCH THE WORD FOR YOURSELF The people questioned Jesus' teaching because they were unfamiliar with His authority. Jesus said: «“My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.” — John 7:16» This teaches us the importance of knowing God's Word. Don't build your faith solely on what someone tells you. Study Scripture. Pray for understanding. Test what you hear. Know the truth. A believer who knows God's Word is less likely to be carried away by deception. Don't just hear the Word—search it, understand it, and live it. 📖🔥 ❤️‍🔥 JESUS CAN SATISFY WHAT THE WORLD CANNOT There is a thirst inside humanity that money cannot quench. The Samaritan woman in John 4 needed Living Water. The crowd in John 6 needed the Bread of Life. And in John 7, Jesus again offers Himself as the One who satisfies the thirsty soul. The message is consistent: JESUS IS ENOUGH. When you have Christ, you have the greatest treasure. When everything else changes, Christ remains. When people leave, Christ remains. When circumstances become difficult, Christ remains. When the world cannot answer your questions, Christ remains. Come to Jesus and drink. 💧✝️ 🔥 LET THE RIVERS FLOW THROUGH YOU Jesus did not say that the living water would remain stagnant. He said: «“Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”» A river flows. Therefore, don't keep your Christianity hidden. Let your faith be visible. Let your kindness speak. Let your character testify. Let your words carry grace. Let your life preach Christ. Someone around you may be spiritually thirsty. Your testimony may encourage them. Your prayer may strengthen them. Your invitation may bring them to church. Your witness may lead them to salvation. Let the living water flow! 🌊🔥 ✝️ JESUS WILL ALWAYS BRING A DECISION John 7 shows that people were divided because of Jesus. Some believed. Some doubted. Some opposed Him. Some wanted to arrest Him. Jesus still demands a response today. You cannot remain neutral forever. The question is not merely: “What do people say about Jesus?” The question is: “WHO IS JESUS TO YOU?” Is He your Saviour? Is He your Lord? Is He your King? Are you following Him? Are you obeying His Word? ✍🏽 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The world offers temporary satisfaction, but Jesus offers Living Water that becomes a river within us. Come to Him, drink deeply, and let His life flow through you. 💧🔥✝️ 🙏🏽 PRAYER Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving us Jesus Christ, the source of Living Water. Lord Jesus, I come to You with every thirst, emptiness, weakness, and need in my heart. Fill me with Your presence and satisfy my soul with what only You can provide. Holy Spirit, work deeply within me. Let rivers of living water flow through my life. Help me not to be controlled by the opinions of people. I have given you authority, so that you can walk on snakes and scorpions and overcome all the power of the Enemy, and nothing will hurt you.” Thoughts: Accepting Jesus Christ as your Saviour and thus inviting the Holy Spirit into your life, you also gain power through God; power to face even the most daunting enemies and challenges. If you live your life in honor of God, if you understand that His presence in your life is a constant, you never need to be afraid again. Fear makes us weak, it makes us doubt that God can intervene in time to save us. If we stand firm in the knowledge that we have power through our belief in the Lord, if we face the future with courageous hearts, we can (and will) overcome any obstacle in our way. Fear gives the devil a foothold, he thrives on us being afraid and uses it against us. When we take our stand against evil, against the world, knowing that we are children of the Almighty; children with God-given power, even the devil and his minions will fall. Luke 10:17: “....Even the demons obeyed us when we gave them a command in your name." A word of warning, though, remember that with this power comes a warning: Luke 10:17: “But don’t be glad because the evil spirits obey you; rather be glad because your names are written in heaven.” Therefore you should accept our God-given power and use it to quench the human fear still lurking in our lives. In our commitment to God we can use this power to overcome even the darkest of enemies and do so to glorify His name. For it is only through Him that we can claim this power and only with His blessing that we can use it in our daily battle. Ask yourself: Are you ready to accept God's challenge and take up the powerful sword God gave you? 🌿 Mystical Gardens Tale 🌿 🪑 The Empty Chair Mary had friends, technically she wasn't alone. That was what she always told herself. She had people she could call. People who would answer a message. People she could talk to about the weather, the latest news, or something funny that had happened during the day. What she didn't have was someone to do things with. She wasn't completely alone, but there was a difference between having people she could talk to and having a companion to spend time with. Mary knew there was a difference. She knew it every evening when she came home. She knew it when she made dinner and automatically put two plates on the counter before realizing there was only one person eating. She knew it when something funny happened on television and she turned toward the other side of the couch to share the joke, only to find an empty cushion. She knew it when she poured herself a glass of tea and, without thinking, reached for another glass. Then stopped. There was no one to pour it for. One evening, Mary sat on the couch with her dinner untouched beside her. The television was playing, but she wasn't watching it. Her eyes kept drifting toward the empty chair across the room. It wasn't anything special. Just an old chair with a cushion that had lost some of its shape, but tonight, it seemed to be extra empty. Mary stared at it for a long time. Then she whispered, “I wish somebody was here.” The words surprised her. She had spent years teaching herself not to say things like that. Whenever she admitted she was lonely, someone would remind her that she already had friends. Whenever she said she wanted companionship, someone would tell her she needed to learn to be happy alone. Whenever she complained about having no one to do things with, someone would say, “You just have to get out there.” Mary knew they meant well, but sometimes she wanted more than advice. She wanted someone to sit beside her. Someone to go places with. Someone to call and say, “Want to grab a coffee?” Someone who would watch a terrible movie with her and laugh at how terrible it was. Someone who would notice when she was quiet. Someone who didn't have to be invited because they were already there. Mary leaned back against the couch. “I don't want to be needy,” she whispered. The room offered no answer. The loneliness tightened around her heart. The loneliness engulfed her and tears formed in her eyes. Mary closed her eyes, curled into a fetal ball, and allowed herself to cry. When she opened them again, she wasn't in her living room. She was sitting in a beautiful garden beneath a giant tree. The mystical garden stretched around her in the soft evening light. Flowers moved gently in a breeze she couldn't feel. Somewhere nearby, water trickled over smooth stones. Mary didn't know how she had gotten there, but she wasn't frightened. She had been to this garden before. Some people claimed it was magical. She looked up at the giant tree. “You know why I'm here, don't you?” The leaves rustled. Mary smiled sadly. “I'm so lonely.” The tree remained silent. Mary pulled her knees toward herself. “I know what everyone says. I know I do have people in my life. I do have friends. I know I should be grateful. I really am grateful.” She swallowed. “But I want someone...” The words finally came out. “I want someone to share my life with.” A breeze moved through the branches. Mary looked up. “Can you help me?” The tree did not answer. Mary waited. “Can you find someone for me?” Still nothing. Her smile disappeared. “It's silly, but I thought that since I just appeared here, maybe you had some magic that could help me.” The branches swayed gently. Mary looked away. “Apparently not.” She stood and began walking through the garden. At first, she noticed all the companionship around her. She saw two birds that sat together on a branch. A pair of rabbits chased one another through the flowers. A butterfly rested on another butterfly's wings. Even the bees seemed to have somewhere to go and someone waiting for them. Mary stopped beside the pond. “Even the animals have someone.” Her voice cracked. “And I don't.” She sat beside the water. For a long time, she didn't notice anything different. Then something strange began. The garden seemed to change. Mary watched as a bee landed on a flower. The flower gave it the nectar that it searched for. A bird flew down to the pond where it found a worm in the soft soil and water to quench is thirst. A fruit fell from one of the branches and disappeared into the soil where the seed would grow. Mary watched quietly. She finally began to understand. The garden wasn't showing her perfect lives. This wasn't exactly the companionship she longed for. What it was showing her was a different kind of companionship. It showed her the connections that are made in all life. Little ones. Simple ones. Necessary ones. Then its leaves shimmered and Mary heard a whisper in her heart. "You are not wrong for wanting companionship.'' Mary's eyes filled with tears. People had told her it was good to be independent. They had told her to enjoy her own company. They had told her she didn't need anyone, but nobody had told her that wanting someone beside her wasn't a weakness. Mary rested her hand against the tree. “I don't want someone to rescue me.” The leaves rustled. “I just don't want to do everything alone. I just need a friend to do things with.” The tree remained silent, but somehow Mary understood. There was a difference between being incomplete and being lonely. She could be whole and still want someone to share some of the things in her life with. She could be grateful and still wish for a little companionship. She could love herself and still want someone sitting in the empty chair. Mary wiped her eyes. “Then why can't you find someone for me?” The tree's branches slowly moved toward the ground. One small branch pointed toward the garden gate. Mary frowned. “You want me to leave?” At first she was hurt, but then she understood. The garden couldn't choose another person's heart. It couldn't manufacture friendship. It couldn't make someone walk into her life. It couldn't promise that tomorrow she would meet the person she'd been waiting for. But it could give her somewhere to come back to when the loneliness became too heavy. It could remind her that loneliness wasn't proof that she was forgotten. Companionship had many different forms. Perhaps most importantly, it reminded her not to close her heart simply because she had been disappointed before. Mary stood. The tree's leaves shimmered. “I guess I just stopped trying.” She looked toward the garden gate. “Because every time I tried, I got hurt.” The garden grew very still. Mary took a deep breath. “Maybe I decided it was easier to do things alone, preferring to be lonely than to be hurt. That's not the same thing as being okay, is it?” The tree answered with a gentle shower of golden leaves. Mary laughed through her tears. “No,” she whispered. “It isn't.” When Mary returned home, the television was still playing. The empty chair was still there. Nothing about her house had changed. But Mary had. She looked at the chair. For years, she had thought the empty chair was proof that nobody was coming, no one wanted to be with her. Tonight, she saw it differently. It was simply an empty chair waiting to be filled. The next morning, Mary picked up her phone. She stared at the screen for several minutes. If she wanted a friend, she should make an effort. There was a woman she occasionally talked to. They had always talked easily, but Mary had never asked her to do anything outside their usual conversations. Her finger hovered over the call button. Then she pressed it. “Hi,” Mary said when the woman answered. “I was wondering…” She almost stopped. She fears that the woman would be too busy. That she would think Mary was being strange. But Mary continued. “Would you like to have coffee with me sometime?” There was a pause. Then came the answer. “I'd love to.” Mary smiled. It wasn't a miracle. It wasn't the end of her loneliness. It wasn't the person she had dreamed about finding for a relationship. It was simply coffee and the beginning of a new friendship. Sometimes the beginnings of any kind of relationship are very small. Sometimes they sound like: Would you like to come with me? Would you want to watch a movie? Do you want to get coffee? Would you like to sit here? Mary still visited the garden. She still had lonely evenings. There were still nights when she looked at the empty chair and wished someone were sitting in it, but now she wouldn't allow the loneliness to tightened around her heart. She knew she could ask for simple companionship when she felt lonely and she could always come here for comfort and peace. Wanting someone beside you does not make you weak. Being lonely does not mean you are forgotten. An empty chair is not a threat that no one will ever come. Sometimes… It is simply a chair waiting for a story that hasn't been written yet. Seed from the Garden “God setteth the solitary in families.” — Psalm 68:6 Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 Two people are better than one because they can help each other up. God sees the lonely places we don't always know how to explain. He doesn't shame us for wanting companionship. While He may not answer that longing in the way or timing we expect, we can trust that our loneliness does not mean we have been forgotten. Sometimes the first step isn't finding the person we've been waiting for. Sexting is a terrible thing. (‘Sexting’ is the new term for children exposing themselves to one another online, thinking they are safe because they are in the sanctuary of their own home.) Pornography is pervasive, and parents need to keep up with changes in technology and protect their kids. That’s a tough assignment, because kids are ahead of them. Parents often have extremely demanding careers and when they come home they have nothing left to give, so the culture will often take your kids to hell.’ One night a father and his daughter were out on a lake when their small boat was caught in a storm. [17/08, 9:11 pm] Pastor Attah: *MEDITATIONS ON DAILY ⓂANNA* TUESDAY, 18TH AUGUST, 2026. *THIRSTING AFTER GOD* *TEXT:* PSALM 42:1-5. 1As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. *Timeless Truth:*_"O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;"_ Psalm 63:1). *INTRODUCTION* When a man ceases to experience thirst, he is as good as dead. The same is true in the spiritual. In fact, one of the first experiences of a converted man is thirst for God and spiritual things. Spiritual thirst is a deep longing for God and His presence. Just as the body cannot survive without water, the soul cannot flourish without God. The psalmist expresses an intense desire for the living God despite the pain, tears, discouragement and difficult circumstances surrounding him. His experience teaches us that genuine faith does not mean the absence of trouble; rather, it means learning to seek God even in the midst of trouble. When everything else fails, God remains the only lasting satisfaction for the thirsty soul. *1. Thirsting After God Like a Hart* a. The psalmist declares, *“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”* A thirsty hart desperately seeks water because its survival depends upon it. Many are thirsty for wealth, pleasure, popularity, power and pride of life among others. The thirst makes them pay a heavy price to get what they are looking for. At times they pay the ultimate price. True thirst will always be demonstrated by desperate seeking for how to satisfy and quench the thirst. In the same vein, many commonly seek God's blessings without seeking for the God of the blessings. The psalmist case was different. *"So panteth my soul after thee"*. Who and what you are passionately and desperately seeking for is a reflection of the state of your heart. In the same manner, the believer should have an earnest and persistent longing for God. The psalmist does not merely desire God's gifts; he desires God Himself. b. His greatest hunger is to *“appear before God.”* He was thirsty to become closer to God. Jesus also echoed this when He said, *"seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness"*. Our ultimate purpose for seeking God was to see His glory, be conformed to His image and be always ready for the kingdom of God. Jesus further assured that *"all other things shall be added unto you"*. The psalmist demonstrated his thirst for God when he decided, *"early will I seek thee...to see thy power and thy glory as I have seen thee in the sanctuary"* (Psalm 63:1,2). Our spiritual lives become weak when our desire for God is replaced by the pursuit of worldly pleasures, possessions, recognition or human approval. Genuine revival begins when the soul cries out for God's presence, His Word, His holiness and fellowship with Him. *Question* Is my desire for God as deep and urgent as the thirst of a hart for water? *2. Tearful Afflictions Giving Loss of Hope* a. Incidentally, the psalmist did not prioritize seeking for heavenly blessings above seeking for God just because everything was going well with him. In fact, the psalmist's circumstances have become so painful that his tears have been his food day and night. He was not finding it rosy in life at that time. One would have expected him, as many worshippers do today, to concentrate on seeking God for release from pains and troubles as priority. Worse still, people around him mockingly asked, directly and indirectly, *“Where is thy God?”.* His memories of former worship and joyful fellowship with God's people intensify his present sorrow. Yet that did not distract his affections towards God. b. At times, affliction can attack not only our circumstances, but also our emotions and confidence. Yet the psalmist's tears reveal that God's children may experience seasons of deep discouragement without being abandoned by God. His pain was real, but it did not have the final word. Even when circumstances seem to contradict God's promises, faith must continue to look toward Him. Seeking God and His righteousness, above all else, should not be diminished as a result of our pains, problems, persecutions and poverty among others. Whatever be our situations, the promises of God that *"all other blessings shall be added"* still stand as long as we keep seeking the face and the glory of God to be reflected in our lives above all else. We must have grace to be tougher than our tough challenges. It is our attitude and the content of our prayers in the time of distress and difficulties that reflect the genuineness of our love for God. Jesus Christ, while on the cross and under intense pains, was still consecrated to soulwinning and intercessory prayers for the sinners and the lost. The will of God and the glory of God was His priority. He has given us examples to follow. *Question* Am I consecrated to seek God and His glory as priority when affliction and tears surround me? *3. Trust in Abiding Grace with a Life of Holiness* When passing through tough times, we must maintain trust in God's abundant grace and continue to live the life that God approves. There is no challenge we pass through that God has not allowed and if God allowed it, then He will see us through as children. The act of faith is in mocking those challenges and still continues seeking the glory of God and heavenly readiness. We must learn how to feed our frustrations and fruitlessness with the word of hope and promises given by God. The psalmist speaks directly to his troubled soul: *“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God.”* He refuses to surrender permanently to despair. Instead, he deliberately redirects his heart toward God. Trusting God's abiding grace means choosing hope when feelings say there is no hope. It also means continuing to live faithfully, before God while waiting for His intervention. A thirsty soul must not only seek God's presence, but also remain committed to a holy life. God's grace sustains us, restores our joy and enables us to praise Him even before our circumstances change. For a child of God, no bad situation is permanent, but temporary and for a moment. *"weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning"*. *Question* Am I deliberately trusting God's abiding grace and maintaining a holy life even when my circumstances are discouraging? *Prayer Points* 1.Father, create within me an unquenchable thirst for Your presence and Your Word 🙏. 2.Lord, strengthen me when tears, afflictions and discouragement threaten my faith 🙏. 3.Father, make me tougher than my challenges and keep me on being engaged in Your service 🙏. 4.Lord, visit and help those brethren who are carrying heavy loads and sustain them by Your grace 🙏. *HYMN:* More of Jesus would I know *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOB 35-38. It inspired the nation and boosted morale among a people on the verge of giving up. On a spiritual level, believers find hope in God too, as they hear the voice that resonates through the pages of His Word. In moments of discouragement, Christians serve as a testimony to those who have never met God or heard His voice.* *David exemplifies this in our devotional text as he expresses acute hunger and "thirst for God, the living God". In his hopelessness, he recalled the exhilarating moments he had in God's house and presence. Reminiscences of the voice of joy and praise filled his soul. Awakened by the testimonies of God's faithfulness and the certainty of blessedness that flows from trust in God, he gladly addresses his soul and jerks back from the abyss of despondency.* *Are you troubled about any ugly situation or setback? Cheer up and look up! Here are gems and clues for you as a Christian pilgrim, who could, at times, be discouraged and cast down. Don't stay down. David didn't. He queried and counselled his soul. First is to know that neither discouragement nor despondency is a sign of weakness. Elijah is one biblical character who fits this description. After defeating the prophets of Baal, he received a death threat from Jezebel. His hope was shattered, and despondency set in. He wanted to die! The Lord did not rebuke him for his feelings but sent an angel to provide for his physical needs. In our times of discouragement, suicide is no option; it only leads to a more serious, endless and interminable suffering in hell. The present challenge or problem has not diminished God's love for us. He desires to lead us to a place of a renewed vision of His power!* *The time to exit the discouragement mode is now! Take the verifiable steps that effectively log you out, which include a deep, interminable longing for God. This is what Isaiah calls "waiting upon the Lord". Second, you will do well to consciously recall and delight in God's past acts of mercy, divine interventions, and faithfulness. Finally, you must deliberately seek the remedy of praise to uplift your downcast, crestfallen, and discouraged heart. Beloved, don't give in to despair! Jesus calls every thirsty soul to come to Him and receive the living water that only He can give. ✝️💧 There is a thirst in every human heart that money cannot satisfy, success cannot quench, relationships cannot completely fill, and worldly pleasures cannot permanently silence. Jesus stands as the answer to that deepest thirst. He does not merely offer us something to drink—He offers us Himself. ❤️‍🔥 🔥 THREE TRUTHS FROM JOHN 7 1️⃣ JESUS INVITES THE THIRSTY. 💧 «“If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” — John 7:37» Notice the words: “If any man.” The invitation is open to everyone. It does not matter how broken your past has been. It does not matter how far you have wandered. It does not matter how empty your heart feels. Jesus says: COME. Come with your weakness. Come with your questions. Come with your failures. Come with your burdens. Come with your thirst. The answer is found in Christ. 2️⃣ CHRIST IS THE SOURCE OF TRUE SATISFACTION. ❤️ The world constantly offers temporary solutions to spiritual hunger and thirst. It tells us to pursue possessions, pleasure, recognition and human approval. But everything the world offers eventually leaves us wanting more. Jesus offers something different. He gives living water—the life, presence and work of the Holy Spirit within the believer. When Christ becomes the centre of your life, you no longer have to depend on the world to define your worth or satisfy your soul. Jesus is enough. 🙏🏽 3️⃣ THE HOLY SPIRIT FLOWS THROUGH THE BELIEVER. 🔥💧 «“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” — John 7:38» Jesus does not intend for us to keep His life within ourselves. The living water is meant to flow. What God pours into you should become a blessing to others. Your testimony can encourage someone. Your prayers can strengthen someone. Your kindness can restore someone. Your witness can lead someone to Christ. A believer should not be a spiritual reservoir that only receives. We are called to become channels through which God's grace flows. ❤️‍🔥 🌿 TODAY'S REFLECTION What are you truly thirsty for? Are you thirsty for God—or are you constantly trying to satisfy your heart with the things of this world? Jesus is still calling: “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” Do not run to the world when your soul is thirsty. Run to Jesus. When you are empty—come to Jesus. When you are discouraged—come to Jesus. When you are spiritually dry—come to Jesus. When you need direction—come to Jesus. When you need peace—come to Jesus. The world may offer temporary refreshment, but Christ gives living water. And when you have received His living water, allow it to flow through your life and touch others. 🙏🏽 PRAYER Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving us Jesus Christ, the source of living water. Thank You that through Him we can receive true spiritual life and satisfaction. Lord Jesus, I come to You today with every thirst, every burden and every emptiness in my heart. Fill me with Your presence. Let the Holy Spirit refresh my soul and strengthen my faith. Remove every desire that has taken Your place in my heart. Teach me to seek You above everything else. (1)" ‘…when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.’ Hebrews 10:36 NIV. MANY OF us remember singing in church, ‘Every promise in the Book is mine!’ Exciting words—but are they entirely true? If you’ve prayed for the fulfilment of a Bible promise that didn’t materialise, you may have wondered, felt disillusioned, or even stopped trusting. What’s true is that every promise in the Book intended for you, is yours! God is committed to keeping every promise He has made (Matthew 24:35). So how can you know which Bible promises are yours? Here are some scriptural guidelines to help you: 1) Be sure you understand the promise. God is committed to His Word, not to your interpretation of it. When Jesus said, ‘…Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up’ (John 2:19 NKJV), His audience completely misunderstood Him, thinking He meant the literal temple when He meant His body. 2) Walk in the Spirit, not the flesh. Walking in the Spirit, Peter received divine understanding of Christ’s deity. When Jesus asked, ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘…this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father…’ (Matthew 16:15-17 NIV). Soon afterwards, walking in the flesh, the same man totally misunderstood Jesus and was severely rebuked by Jesus (Matthew 16:21-23). Why? Because ‘…the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God…nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned’ (1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV). God can turn the situation around in a moment.* *The cleric took lessons from the experience of Habakkuk, the prophet who was struck with terror on learning from the Lord that the land of Judah would be attacked by the fierce Chaldean troops from Babylon. Already disturbed by the iniquities of injustice and impunity around him, on which he expected the Lord to act, Habakkuk was now informed that more disquietude was on the way. The prophet was made to understand that even the Chaldeans, who were to be used as an instrument of punishment, were themselves to face the wrath of God for their wickedness. His anxiety was relieved when he realised that the God of mercy he served was at the point of reviving His people in the process. He went on to intercede for precisely that.* *With humanity now also traumatised by sporadic assaults coming through technological inventions like Artificial Intelligence (AI), wars, insecurity, dysfunctional governance, threats of nuclear conflagration, there are fears that man is on the brink, looking into the bottomless abyss. Really? Not so. The Christian is challenged, rather, like Habakkuk, to plead for revival among the turmoil. It is the hour to ask for an unprecedented move of God's Spirit in the world, an event that should usher multitudes to repentance and turning to Christ for succour in trying times.* *The Lord's second coming is imminent, going by the signs we are witnessing. It is a timely call for vigilant heaven-seeking Christians to strengthen their commitment to holiness, evangelism, study of God's word, fellowship, and acts of kindness. There are many contemporary cases of revival in addition to the one in Bible days. Jonah was used by God to bring Revival to the people of Nineveh where all the 120,000 inhabitants got convicted and converted. There were revivals in Israel during the time of king Hezekiah and Josiah. The Early Church also experienced great revival immediately after the Pentecost. When there is spiritual coldness and indifference to spiritual things, when there is no clear distinction between the world and the Church, when saints are distracted from heavenly desire to earthly preoccupation, then revival is needed. When the saints are weak, powerless and fainting in scriptural conviction and consecration, then we need revival. When formalism and entertainment fill our worship instead of true and holy devotion to God and heavenly things, revival is needed. In order to experience revival, there must be deep concern and burden for prayer coupled with passion for revival. It takes a revived person to be an instrument of revival. *1. The Man of Prayer* a. The man God uses must be a man of bended knees with power of prayer. *"A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.”* Habakkuk was not merely a prophet who preached; he was also a man who prayed. His direct communication with God was not clogged. God could express His mind and vision to him clearly and He also could hear from God and communicate with God effectively and fruitfully. He was a true servant of God that stood between God and man as mediator. He lived a life that was pleasing to God and God could speak to him about people. He dwelt in the midst of compromised and corrupted people without being defiled and with boldness to declare unto them their sins and evil as God had told him without fear or favour. His response to the difficult circumstances surrounding Judah was to seek God. The spiritual condition of a nation should drive God's servants to their knees. Revival begins when someone becomes sufficiently burdened to pray as he comes out of the cocoon of self seeking and self satisfaction. b. There is no revival that ever came in human history without people who had the passion and power of prayer from God. Habakkuk's prayer demonstrates that prayer is not a sign of weakness, but an expression of dependence upon the Almighty. The revival God wants to bring may begin with one person who is willing to stand before Him in persistent intercession. Churches need prayer warriors who will carry the burden of their generation before God. The praying saints or warriors that bring revival concentrate their prayers on heavenly things and not on earthly benefits and blessings. Earnest, consistent and persistent prayers by holy people with deep burden and passion for the glory of God, salvation of souls and perfection of saints are indispensable to a true God sent revival. *Question* Am I sufficiently burdened by the spiritual condition of my generation to become a man or woman of prayer? *2. The Manifestation of Passion* *"O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid"*. Habakkuk's prayer reveals intense spiritual passion. Having heard God's Word and understood His dealings with His people, he was moved deeply. He was such a person that was not indifferent to the Word of God. The Word of God moved, burned and melted his heart. It became fire in his bones that only revival could quench. First he heard the voice of God. Second he was afraid. He was like Noah who, after hearing the Word of God, believed and *"being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house"* (Hebrews 11:7). True passion for God is not passive. It actively engages in things that will bring change and revival. b. Passion for revival means longing to see God glorified, sinners saved, believers renewed and righteousness restored. Habakkuk did not ask God merely to improve circumstances; he asked Him to revive His work. True revival passion is therefore God-centred rather than man-centred. We must pray until spiritual hunger replaces spiritual complacency. *Question* Does my prayer life demonstrate a genuine passion for God to revive His work in my generation? *3. The Mercy from the Potentate* a. What does this world need desperately from God? Mercy! The degree of worldliness and ungodliness are inexcusable. Man deliberately lives his life, spurning His Word and commandments as if God does not exist. Saints' lives are soiled with carnality, worldliness and corruption. Their focus has shifted from serving the Lord to what mundane things the Lord will give to them. b. Passionate prayer for the mercy of God is an indication that we accept that God has been offended and He is angry at us because of our coldness and carnality. It should always be a prayer point constantly. *“In the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.”* Habakkuk recognized God as the sovereign Potentate who has authority to judge, revive, restore and show mercy. He therefore pleaded, *“in wrath remember mercy.”* Revival cannot be manufactured by human ability; it must come through divine mercy and sovereign intervention. The prophet understood that although God's people might deserve judgment, God's mercy could provide restoration. This should encourage us to approach God humbly and plead for mercy upon the Church, families, communities, and nations. When God shows mercy, dry bones can live again, cold hearts can burn again and His work can flourish again. *Question* Am I humbly pleading with the sovereign God to remember mercy and revive His work in our generation? What decision are you making to be an agent of revival in your church and community? *Prayer Points* 1.O Lord, make me a man/woman of prayer, burdened continually for revival and spiritual awakening🙏. 2.O Lord, ignite within me an unquenchable passion for Your glory and the advancement of Your work 🙏. 3.O Lord, the sovereign Potentate, revive Your work in the Church, in families and throughout our nation 🙏. 4 Lord, in wrath remember mercy; pour out Your Spirit, save the lost, restore the backslidden and let genuine revival come upon our generation 🙏. *HYMN:* Come Holy Spirit *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:* JOB 22-25. 2. As the morning light spreads across fields and valleys, may Your grace surround us and fill us with Your holy love. We confess that we have sinned and fallen short of Your glory. We have not lived in a way that honors You. We want today to be the best day we’ve ever lived. Please give us special grace, a special measure of Your Spirit, so we can stay close to You. Help us to do our everyday work better—more skillfully, more neatly, and more quickly than ever before. Help us to keep You in our thoughts as we go about our tasks. 🕊️ DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 215 DATE: 3RD AUGUST 2026 TOPIC: IGNITING THE FIRE (Part 5) ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: MATTHEW 17:21 (NKJV) "But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." Devotional message: Over the past few days, we have seen that a relationship with Jesus Christ, a consistent prayer life, the Word of God, and godly fellowship are essential to igniting and sustaining spiritual fire. Today, we look at another vital discipline—fasting. Fasting is one of God's ordained means of keeping the believer spiritually fervent. While fasting does not earn God's favor, it positions our hearts to become more sensitive to His voice and His leading. As we deny the flesh its desires, we strengthen our spirit and cultivate a greater dependence on God. The flesh constantly wars against the spirit and seeks to hinder our intimacy with God. When left unchecked, it can choke the Word of God and quench the fire of the Holy Spirit within us. However, fasting helps bring the flesh into subjection, making it easier to pray, study the Scriptures, meditate on God's Word, and discern His voice. As the influence of the flesh decreases, the influence of the Holy Spirit increases in our lives. Men like Daniel lived a life of prayer and fasting, which enabled him to sustain his spiritual fire and remain relevant across different kingdoms, even while living in captivity. Because of the fire of God that burned within Daniel and his companions—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—they refused to bow to the gods of Babylon or compromise their devotion to the living God. Their consistent fellowship with God gave them the courage to stand firm in the face of opposition and remain faithful despite intense pressure. Likewise, believers who cultivate a lifestyle of prayer and fasting will receive the grace to stand for God in every season and keep their spiritual fire burning. Child of God, let fasting become a regular part of your walk with God. Approach it with humility, accompanied by prayer and meditation on the Word. As you consistently discipline the flesh and seek God's face, your spiritual sensitivity will increase, your communion with God will deepen, and the fire of the Holy Spirit will continue to burn brightly within you. Fasting subdues the flesh, strengthens the spirit, and positions the believer to sustain a life of prayer, intimacy with God, and spiritual fire. Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the discipline of fasting. Help me to bring my flesh under the control of the Holy Spirit and to hunger more for Your presence than for the things of this world. As I seek You through prayer, fasting, and Your Word, let my spiritual fire burn brighter each day. Increase my sensitivity to Your voice and empower me to live a life that glorifies You.
