The command by God to the people of Israel who were taken captive and exiled to Babylon was not to rebel, hate or isolate themselves, but to pray for peace, so that they too can lead peaceful lives. As believers in Jesus, we too have a responsibility to pray for God's peace and blessings on those around us, and a greater call to pray for their salvation so they too can be at peace with God. This prayer for peace should extend to all the war-torn nations, and every country where hatred, violence and communal disharmony are rampant. Knowing that challenges and false teachers would arise, he urged these spiritual leaders to first watch over their own lives and then faithfully shepherd God's people. Paul reminded them that the church does not belong to any individual—it belongs to God, having been purchased through the precious blood of Jesus Christ. This powerful verse highlights the incredible value God places on His church. Every believer is treasured because Christ willingly gave His life to redeem us. Those entrusted with spiritual leadership have the sacred responsibility of teaching God's Word faithfully, protecting the flock, and leading by godly example. Don’t Give Up on God (Galatians 6:9) There are moments when you feel tired. Tired of praying. Tired of waiting. Tired of trying. Tired of fighting the same battles. Tired of seeing other people move forward while you seem to be standing still. And sometimes the easiest thought is: “Maybe I should just give up.” But God's Word reminds us: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Read that again: If we do not give up. Following Jesus doesn't mean you will never become tired. Faith doesn't mean you will never experience disappointment. Being a Christian doesn't mean every prayer will be answered immediately. There will be seasons when you have to keep walking even when you cannot see the destination. Think about a farmer. A farmer plants a seed, but doesn't see the harvest immediately. There is a season of waiting. A season of watering. A season of working. A season when nothing seems to be happening above the ground. But beneath the surface, something is happening. Your spiritual life can be like that. You may pray and feel like nothing is changing. You may read God's Word and wonder whether your situation will ever improve. You may serve others without seeing the impact. You may share your faith and wonder whether anyone is listening. Don't assume that nothing is happening simply because you cannot see the results yet. God can be working in ways you don't understand. Your responsibility is to remain faithful. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep serving. Keep learning. Keep loving. Keep obeying. Keep sharing Jesus. And when you fall, get back up. Peter failed Jesus. David made serious mistakes. Elijah became discouraged. Moses became frustrated. Many people in Scripture experienced moments of weakness. But their weakness wasn't the end of their story. God's grace met them there. Maybe today you feel like you've failed God too many times. Remember: Failure is not an invitation to run away from God. It is an invitation to return to Him. Confess. Repent. Receive His grace. Get back up. Keep walking. Sometimes perseverance doesn't look dramatic. Sometimes it simply means getting out of bed and praying again. Opening your Bible again. Going to church again. Trying again. Forgiving again. Serving again. Believing again. Taking one more step. And another. And another. You don't have to finish the entire journey today. Just take the next faithful step. There may be people around you who are also struggling silently. Your perseverance can encourage them. When they see you continue trusting God through difficult seasons, they may discover that faith isn't about having a perfect life. It's about having a faithful God. And ultimately, our hope isn't based on our ability to remain strong. Our hope is based on Jesus. He endured rejection. He endured suffering. He endured the cross. And He rose again. Because Christ overcame, we have reason to keep going. So if you're tired today, rest—but don't quit. If you need help, ask for it. If you need prayer, pray. If you need encouragement, reach out to another believer. But don't walk away from God because the road is difficult. The harvest may not be visible yet. Keep sowing. Keep trusting. Keep believing. At the right time, God will bring about what He has planned. Don't give up in the season when you cannot yet see the harvest. God is still working. Monday, 24th August, 2026 TITLE: "GROW INTO CHRIST: FROM SPIRITUAL INFANCY TO MATURITY" ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S) Ephesians 4:13–15 (KJV) "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:" 2 Peter 3:18 (KJV) "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen." QUOTE TO REFLECT ON "Spiritual maturity is not measured by how long you have been saved, but by how much you have become like Christ." DAY'S REFLECTION Every living thing is expected to grow. A healthy child does not remain a child forever; growth involves increasing in strength, understanding, responsibility, and maturity. The same principle applies to our spiritual lives. Paul says in Ephesians 4:13 that God's purpose is for believers to come "unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ." The word "perfect" here carries the idea of being mature or complete. God's desire is not merely that we become churchgoers, but that we grow into mature followers of Christ. Spiritual maturity involves increasing in our faith, knowledge, character, obedience, and love. We should become more like Jesus in how we think, speak, respond to difficulties, forgive others, and treat people. Verse 14 warns us not to remain spiritual children, who are "tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine." A spiritually immature person can easily be influenced by every new teaching, popular opinion, emotional experience, or persuasive personality. Without a strong foundation in God's Word, it becomes difficult to distinguish truth from error. But verse 15 gives us the way forward: "speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things." Truth without love can become harsh, while love without truth can become compromise. Christian maturity requires both truth and love, with Christ as our standard. Peter reinforces this in 2 Peter 3:18: "Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." Grace is God's undeserved favour and enabling power. Growing in grace means becoming increasingly dependent on God's grace and allowing it to transform our lives. Growing in knowledge means continually knowing Christ more deeply through Scripture, prayer, obedience, and experience. Life experience teaches us that physical age does not automatically produce maturity. A person can grow older without becoming wiser. Similarly, years of church attendance do not automatically produce spiritual maturity. Growth requires intentional pursuit. Today, ask yourself: Am I growing? Am I more patient than I used to be? More forgiving? More disciplined? More grounded in God's Word? More loving? More like Christ? Do not be satisfied with yesterday's spiritual growth. Keep learning. Keep obeying. Keep growing. Keep becoming more like Jesus. The ultimate standard of Christian maturity is Christ Himself. EVERYDAY ACTION Read God's Word, practise what you learn, and consciously choose to respond to people today in a way that reflects Christ. PRAYER Heavenly Father, help me grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Make me spiritually mature, grounded in Your truth, rich in love, and increasingly like Christ.
