Scripture openly records its struggles, disagreements, and failures. But there was something unmistakable about those believers: 🔥 Christ had the preeminence.

🔥 They were willing to sacrifice for the gospel.
🔥 They lived with eternity in view.
🔥 They confronted sin while extending grace.
🔥 They cared deeply about reaching people with Jesus. The question isn't whether we can somehow recreate the first century. The question is whether we are willing to recover those same spiritual priorities in the twenty-first century. Before pointing at everything wrong with the church today, we should ask: Lord, what needs to change in me? Am I more concerned with God's approval or people's approval? Am I willing to stand for truth when it costs me something? Is Jesus truly first in my life? Do I pray expecting God to work? Am I more passionate about the gospel than my preferences? Do I live like eternity is real? We don't simply need better programs, bigger churches, or newer strategies. We need Christ-centered churches filled with surrendered people who believe the gospel is true, Jesus is alive, eternity is real, and the mission is worth our lives. Maybe our prayer needs to become very simple: Lord, do it again. The fig tree was producing fruit.
The vine was fulfilling its purpose. None of them were desperate to rule. Then came the bramble. It had little to offer but thorns, yet it was eager to become king. There is a powerful lesson here for every believer: faithfulness is more important than position, and character matters more than a title. We live in a world that encourages us to chase recognition, influence, platforms, and authority. But Scripture continually calls us back to something greater—faithfully serving God wherever He has planted us. Before seeking a bigger platform, be faithful with the one you already have. Before asking for more influence, steward the influence God has already given you. Before looking for recognition, ask whether your life is producing fruit. It came from knowing God had made a promise, God had given His Word, and God would be with him wherever he went. The same is true for us. We may not know everything waiting around the corner. We may face responsibilities that feel bigger than us, decisions that make us uncomfortable, or circumstances we never expected. But we can still move forward in faith. Courage grows when we remember God’s promises.

🌿 A Future of Peace Under the Reign of God — Micah 4:1–5 Micah had just confronted corruption, injustice, and failed leadership. https://patrickryanlewis.com/2026/08/20/a-future-of-peace-under-the-reign-of-god/ Then, in Micah 4, the picture suddenly changes. He sees a day when people are drawn to God, nations seek His instruction, weapons of war are turned into tools of cultivation, and people live securely without fear. Why? Because God is reigning. Micah 4 reminds us that our ultimate hope is not found in better politics, stronger institutions, greater wealth, or humanity finally figuring everything out. Our hope is in the righteous reign of God and in Jesus Christ, the King who will make all things right. But this passage also challenges us today. If God’s kingdom is our future, then His ways should shape how we live in the present. We should seek His Word.
We should pursue peace.
We should practice justice.
We should resist fear.

Gideon defeated an overwhelming enemy, experienced an incredible victory, and became one of Israel’s most celebrated leaders. His story gives us a warning we still need today: Winning yesterday’s battle does not guarantee tomorrow’s faithfulness. Success can test our hearts just as much as suffering. Recognition can become a trap. Influence can become identity. Even something connected to our faith can become an idol when it takes the place that belongs to God alone. Can we be active in church and still be ignoring what God is asking us to change? https://patrickryanlewis.com/2026/08/15/when-leadership-becomes-corrupt-the-warning-of-micah-39-12/ Micah 3:9–12 gives us a sobering picture of leaders who had the right religious language but the wrong priorities. Rulers were influenced by bribes. Priests allowed money to shape their ministry. Prophets pursued personal gain. Yet they still confidently believed that because the Lord was among them, judgment could never come. They confused God’s presence with God’s approval. That warning still matters today. Church attendance, ministry involvement, biblical knowledge, giving, leadership positions, and years of Christian service are all valuable—but none of them can replace genuine obedience to God. Micah forces us to ask some difficult questions: Where has money, comfort, approval, or influence begun affecting our decisions? Are we willing to obey God when obedience becomes costly? EXHAUSTED—BUT STILL CHASING. He had been entrusted with the Gospel of the grace of God, and he believed that message was worth living for, suffering for, and even dying for. That same Gospel has been entrusted to followers of Jesus today. Grace tells us that we don't have to earn God's forgiveness. Jesus has already accomplished what we could never accomplish for ourselves. The serpent does not win. Sin does not win. Death does not win. Jesus Christ is victorious. https://patrickryanlewis.com/2026/08/11/the-first-gospel-promise-the-serpent-is-defeated-and-christ-is-victorious/ Almost immediately after Adam and Eve sinned, God gave humanity a promise of hope. In Genesis 3, before the full consequences of the fall had even unfolded, God announced that a Deliverer would come. The serpent would strike His heel, but this promised Champion would crush the serpent’s head. That promise points us directly to Jesus. At the cross, what appeared to be defeat became victory. Jesus carried our sin, endured the suffering of Calvary, entered the grave—and then rose again. The heel was bruised. The serpent’s head was crushed. And that ancient promise still gives us hope today. When temptation comes, remember who has already won. When your past accuses you, remember the cross. When guilt overwhelms you, remember the grace of Christ. When life seems hopeless, remember the empty tomb. The battle is real, but its final outcome has already been decided. What have you already decided you will not compromise? Long before Daniel stood in the lions’ den, he stood firm at the king’s table. https://patrickryanlewis.com/2026/08/10/dare-to-be-a-daniel-living-with-conviction-in-a-culture-of-compromise/ Daniel 1:8 tells us that Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself. Before the great public tests of his faith ever came, Daniel had already settled something in his heart: his loyalty belonged to God. That same decision matters for us today. Our culture constantly pressures us to blend in, stay quiet, lower our standards, and treat biblical conviction as unnecessary. But faithfulness to Christ means deciding that God’s Word will have greater authority in our lives than popularity, convenience, opportunity, or cultural approval. The small decisions matter. Integrity matters.
Truth matters.
Holiness matters.
Obedience matters. The Daniel who eventually stood before lions first learned to stand faithfully in an ordinary decision at a dinner table. What happens when spiritual leadership becomes more concerned with personal benefit than biblical truth? https://patrickryanlewis.com/2026/08/08/when-spiritual-leadership-becomes-corrupt-micah-3/ In Micah 3:5–8, God confronts false prophets whose message changed depending on what people gave them. When they benefited, they proclaimed peace. When they didn't, their message changed. Their ministry had become transactional. And that raises some important questions for us today: ➡️ What warning signs reveal that a spiritual leader is becoming more concerned with personal benefit than biblical truth? ➡️ Why is it dangerous when a teacher's message changes according to what people want to hear? ➡️ What does biblical courage actually look like? ➡️ How can we speak difficult truth with both courage and humility? Micah gives us a striking contrast between corrupted spiritual influence and faithful spiritual leadership. Power without justice can become abuse.
Courage without truth can become arrogance.
Truth without love can become cruelty. Faithful leadership isn't about protecting our influence. It's about faithfully stewarding whatever influence God has entrusted to us.
