The First Adam and The Second Adam 📖 1 Corinthians 15:45–49 “And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.” — 1 Corinthians 15:45 (KJV) From the beginning of creation, God’s plan for humanity was for man to have dominion and live in fellowship with Him. However, through the first Adam, sin and death entered the world. But through the Second Adam, Jesus Christ, righteousness and eternal life have been made available to all who believe. This sermon reveals the contrast between Adam of the flesh and Christ of the Spirit — one brought death, the other brings life. 1. The First Adam — The Man of Earth 📖 Genesis 2:7 — “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” The first Adam was formed from the dust — earthly and natural. He was given authority and dominion but lost it through disobedience (Genesis 3:6). Through his fall, sin entered the world, and with sin came death (Romans 5:12). Adam’s disobedience brought separation between God and man (Isaiah 59:2). 💡 Lesson: Disobedience to God’s word always brings death, not only physical but spiritual separation from God. 2. The Second Adam — The Lord from Heaven 📖 1 Corinthians 15:47 — “The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.” The Second Adam is Jesus Christ, who came not from the dust but from heaven. Where the first Adam failed, Christ triumphed. Jesus came to restore man’s relationship with God through His obedience unto death (Philippians 2:8). Through the Second Adam, we receive the Spirit of life and reconciliation (Romans 5:18–19). 💡 Lesson: Obedience to God brings eternal life. Jesus’ obedience reversed the curse of Adam’s disobedience. 3. The Contrast Between the Two Adams First Adam Origin Formed from dust. Second Adam Came from Heaven. First Adam Nature Living soul Second Adam Life-giving Spirit First Adam Act Disobedience Result Death and condemnation Second Adam Act Obedience Life and justification First Adam Legacy Sin, shame, and separation Second Adam Grace, glory, and reconciliation 📖 Romans 5:19 — “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” 4. The Purpose of the Second Adam To restore dominion lost by the first Adam (Luke 10:19). To make us new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). To bring us into eternal fellowship with God (John 14:6). To destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). 💡 Lesson: In Christ, we regain what Adam lost — righteousness, authority, and eternal life. 5. Living as a New Creation in the Second Adam 📖 Ephesians 4:22–24 — “Put off the old man... and put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” We are no longer to live in the nature of the first Adam (sinful flesh). We are to walk in the Spirit and live in obedience to the Word. The life of Christ must reflect in our character, conduct, and conversation. The resurrection power of the Second Adam now works in us (Romans 8:11). 💡 Lesson: You cannot live in victory while still carrying the old Adamic nature. You must put on Christ daily. The first Adam brought death through sin, but the Second Adam brought life through His sacrifice. If you remain in the first Adam, you remain in death; but if you are in Christ, the Second Adam, you have eternal life. Choose today to live in the life-giving Spirit of Christ and not in the death of Adam’s disobedience. 📖 Romans 5:21 — “That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.” Pray This Prayer Lord, thank You for sending Jesus, the Second Adam, to give me life. Father, deliver me from every Adamic nature of sin. Lord Jesus, help me to walk in obedience as You did. Holy Spirit, empower me to live in the newness of life. The Soul of Man Every human being is made up of spirit, soul, and body. The soul is the seat of emotions, will, and intellect — it is the true essence of man. Genesis 2:7, Matthew 16:26, Ezekiel 18:4, 3 John 1:2 When God formed man from the dust of the ground, man was lifeless until God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and he became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). The body came from the dust, but the soul came from God — it is eternal. 1. THE ORIGIN OF THE SOUL The Bible clearly shows that the soul is God-breathed. The moment God breathed into Adam, the soul was born. Genesis 2:7 – “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” This means man is not just a physical being but a spiritual entity that connects to eternity through the soul. 2. THE VALUE OF THE SOUL Jesus emphasized that the soul is more valuable than all the riches of the world. Matthew 16:26 – “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” No earthly possession can compare to the worth of your soul. The devil knows this, which is why he fights to claim the souls of men through sin, deception, and worldliness. 3. THE NATURE OF THE SOUL The soul is: * Immortal – It cannot die; it lives forever (Matthew 10:28). *Accountable – Each soul will give account to God (Romans 14:12). * Redeemable – Though man’s soul can be lost through sin, it can be redeemed through Christ (1 Peter 1:9). * Your soul is the eternal part of you that will either dwell with God in Heaven or suffer separation from Him in Hell. 4. THE DANGER OF A LOST SOUL The greatest tragedy in life is not poverty, sickness, or death — it is a lost soul. Ezekiel 18:4 – “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” When a man lives in sin, his soul is in danger of eternal death. Sin stains the soul, but repentance and the blood of Jesus cleanse it (1 John 1:7–9). 5. THE SALVATION OF THE SOUL The only way for the soul to be saved is through faith in Jesus Christ. James 1:21 – “Receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” 1 Peter 1:9 – “Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.” Your soul must be nurtured daily by the Word of God, prayer, and holiness. Spiritual neglect leads to spiritual decay. 6. THE PROSPERITY OF THE SOUL God desires your soul to prosper just as your body and spirit do. 3 John 1:2 – “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” When your soul prospers, your life finds peace, direction, and true fulfillment in Christ. Your soul is your most valuable possession — eternal, priceless, and loved by God. Don’t trade it for temporary pleasure or material gain. Guard your soul with all diligence, live righteously, and keep your relationship with God alive. Matthew 11:29 – “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Pray This PRAYER *Lord, thank You for creating me a living soul. *Father, cleanse my soul from every defilement of sin. *Lord Jesus, save my soul from eternal destruction. *Holy Spirit, renew my mind and will to follow God. * I receive grace to live a soul-winning life in Jesus’ name.
