• The Story Behind the Hymns.
THE STORY BEHIND “NEARER, MY GOD, TO THEE”

When the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg and began its final descent into the North Atlantic on April 15, 1912, the ship’s musicians continued playing as passengers faced the unfolding tragedy. Among the hymns associated with those final moments was “Nearer, My God, to Thee.”

The image of the hymn being played as the great ship disappeared into the darkness has become one of the most enduring stories connected with the hymn. Its words, centred on drawing closer to God even in the face of suffering and death, gave the moment a profound spiritual significance.

The hymn’s opening lines express that longing:

    “Nearer, my God, to Thee,
    Nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross
    That raiseth me…”

However, the story of “Nearer, My God, to Thee” began long before the Titanic.

The words were written by Sarah Flower Adams, an English poet, in 1841. Adams drew her inspiration from the biblical story of Jacob’s dream at Bethel, recorded in Genesis 28.

According to the biblical account, Jacob was travelling away from home when he stopped to sleep. During the night, he dreamed of a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with angels ascending and descending upon it. God spoke to Jacob and reassured him of His presence and promises.

Inspired by this powerful encounter, Adams wrote “Nearer, My God, to Thee” as a prayer expressing the desire to remain close to God through every circumstance of life, even through hardship, sorrow and death.

The hymn was later set to several melodies. The tune most commonly associated with it today is “Bethany,” composed by American church musician Lowell Mason and published in 1856.

Over the generations, the hymn became a treasured part of Christian worship, particularly in moments of grief, farewell and personal trial. Its message is timeless: circumstances may change, suffering may come, and the journey may become difficult, but the believer can continually seek the presence of God.

More than 180 years after Sarah Flower Adams wrote its words, and more than a century after its association with the Titanic, “Nearer, My God, to Thee” continues to be sung around the world.

At its heart is a simple prayer:

Nearer to God, through every step, every struggle and every season of life.

  • PAT BOONE: THE MAN BEHIND THE CLEAN-CUT IMAGE
Long before the Jesus Movement had a name, there was a young man from Tennessee named Pat Boone.
Clean cut. Polite. Christian. Married young.
And he became one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
He sang. He acted. He hosted television. He became a teen idol and one of the most recognizable faces in America.
And then there was Elvis Presley. Elvis was rock ’n’ roll.
    Pat was… well, Pat Boone.
You probably wouldn’t have put those two together at the same table. But they became friends. In fact, they lived near each other in Bel Air, worked around the same Hollywood circles, and Elvis would sometimes visit Pat’s home.
And here’s one of my favorite little stories. Pat’s daughters would jump into the swimming pool and splash Elvis.
Pat apparently felt the need to remind them that they were getting Elvis wet. Elvis’s response?
“Leave ’em alone, man. I like it.”
The King of Rock ’n’ Roll apparently had no problem being attacked by a bunch of little girls with water wings.
But beneath the humor was something deeper.
Elvis knew Pat was a Christian.
    And Elvis trusted him.
At one point, Elvis told Pat he wished he could go to church like Pat did. But fame made it almost impossible. If Elvis walked into church, people would recognize him, ask for autographs and turn worship into a spectacle.
Later, while Elvis was performing in Las Vegas, he asked Pat…
    “Do you know Oral Roberts?”
Elvis wanted to talk with the famous evangelist. Pat basically told him, “You’re Elvis Presley. Pick up the phone!”
Think about that. The King of Rock ’n’ Roll was asking his Christian friend for help connecting with a Christian evangelist. That doesn’t mean Elvis suddenly became the Christian Pat hoped he would become. But it tells us something important.
    Elvis was searching.
And he knew he could talk to Pat about spiritual things.
Then came the Jesus Movement. Hippies were coming to Christ. Young people with long hair and very short patience for organized religion were showing up in churches. Rock music was being turned toward Jesus. And Pat Boone stepped into it.
He founded Lamb & Lion Records, helping give Christian musicians a place to make contemporary music about Jesus. But Pat didn’t hide from the culture.
In 1972, he and his wife and daughters even performed at a Playboy Club. Pat openly disagreed with the Playboy philosophy.
    But he went anyway.
    Why?
Because he believed Christians didn’t have to hide from people they disagreed with. He could walk into a place without becoming part of that place. He could love people without agreeing with everything they believed.
    And maybe that’s the lesson.
Pat Boone didn’t have to become Elvis to be his friend.
He didn’t have to compromise his faith to love someone who didn’t share it.
He simply stayed who he was.
    A Christian. A friend.
A man willing to walk into places where Christians weren’t always expected to go.
And perhaps that’s one of the things the Jesus Movement understood better than we sometimes do today….
Jesus didn’t tell us to love only people who already looked like us. He told us to love people.
    Period.
Sometimes friendship opens a door that preaching never could. And sometimes the person sitting across the table from you isn’t looking for an argument.
They’re looking for someone they can trust. Maybe that’s why Elvis trusted Pat Boone.
And maybe that’s why we should remember the story.
Be the kind of Christian people aren’t afraid to call when they’re searching.

  • Praise is expensive.

Sometimes as we sit in worship, we watch those leading us, see them crying, or shouting, or pleading woth God and we wonder, why are they behaving like this.

It is the challenge Michal had when she saw David. He danced till his clothes fell off because bringing the Ark to Jerusalem was paved in blood because of improper worship. He knew the cost of his Praise. She didn't.

She allowed her (broken) relationship with her husband to color her worship a mistake we all make. We come to church and allow our issues wirh the Pastor, his family, the leadership, the worship leader, the musicians, the ushers, there's a whole list of people who disappoint us, who used or abused us that we use as a point of focus instead of looking at what God has done for us.. for me.

Praise is expensive... God’s love, favour and mercy are more than enough reasons to shout. Let us focus on the God who loved us to death and release the ones who hurt us in life.

  • APOSTOLIC PASTOR CONFESSES
DIFFICULT FOR ME TO WRITE THIS
    APRIL 27, 2006

    Dear Reader,

This letter is very difficult for me to write. I really don’t know where or how to start. So I prayed to the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY that He leads me with the correct words and proper attitude and the right direction with which to have this letter flow. I pray that the Holy Spirit leads me and guides me in this letter so HIS NAME may be glorified.

Let me give you a small resume of my life. I was born Catholic and educated in their grade schools, high school and two years of Catholic college. I lived thirty six years of Catholicism before I had a relationship with GOD. I was baptized in Jesus name June of 1983 in the San Jacinto River under Highway 59 north of Houston, Texas, by Brother Tommy Hodges. I received the HOLY SPIRIT January, 1984, at Deer Park Pentecostal Church (Pastor Possey) under the evangelistic preaching of Brother Hightower.

In 1989, with the blessing of Pastor Kilgore of Life Tabernacle my wife and I left for Philadelphia, PA. GOD had us start the Jesus Name Ministries church which we have been pastoring for the past sixteen years. I never comprised on the name of Jesus.

One day this past summer (2004) my wife, Linda and I were camping. Linda went to bed and I was scanning the radio stations about mid-night on Sunday. I stopped at a station where a preacher in Georgia was preaching. In his preaching he stated that he was Apostolic and preached Acts 2:38 in a way I never heard before. Repent and be baptized every one of you in the NAME of YAHWAH Messiah for the remission of sins. This caught my attention and my anger and my curiosity. I jotted down his phone number and put it in my wallet, planning to call and investigate this strange NAME of YAHWAH.

I investigated the Philadelphia library, to my surprise; I found many scholarly Bible writers wrote on the oldest and most used NAME OF GOD. I didn’t know where this investigation was going to take me. All I know is that I love truth.

I spoke several times on the phone with this strang Yahwah preacher and his wife that were from Georgia, Jerry & Kathy Kirk. They sent me some Biblical historical materials to read and pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

In our adventure for truth with these materials and the immense information from the library, I was taught some surprising facts that the Catholic Church and the Apostolic church never taught me.

    THE FOLLOWING TRUE FACTS
    ARE WHAT I FOUND

    1. YHWH (pronounced YAHWAH by all Jewish rabbis) is GOD and GOD alone.

    2. YHWH is found 6,832 times in the TANACH.

    3. Paul the Apostle always referred to the TANACH to show that YHWH was the Messiah.

    4. The TANACH is nothing more than our equivalent to the Old Testament.

    5. That the NAME of GOD, YHWH (YAHWAH) was first used in Genesis 2:4 and last used in the Old Testament Malachi 3:23.

    6. The Hebrew Apostles scriptures were stolen by a church (circa 126-136 A. D.) and translated into Greek and the original Hebrew New Testament scriptures were destroyed.

    7. Jesus is only a new name of 393 years. In the King James 1611 A.D. the NAME OF THE SAVIOR in the Christian world was Iesous. The letter ‘J’, according to Webster did not exist until after the mid-1650.

    8. A scholarly Biblical fact is that YHWH (YAHWAH) was taken out of our New English editions and hidden by only using the word LORD.

    9. Genesis 4:26 at the time of Seth men began calling on THE NAME of YHWH (YAHWAH).

    10. Genesis 12:8; 13:4, 21:33 Abram at Bethel called upon THE NAME of YHWH (YAHWAH).

    11. YHWH (pronounced YAHWAH by all Jewish rabbis) is GOD and GOD alone.

    12. Genesis 26:25 Isaac called on THE NAME of YHWH (YAHWAH).

    13. YHWH is HIS NAME and only name. Elohim (Lord of Lords) is HIS title. EL (God) is HIS title. Emmanuel GOD with us is a sentence.

    14. Exodus 6:3 GOD tells Moses HIS NAME is YHWH (YAHWAH).

    15. Deuteronomy 6:4 YHWH our GOD is ONE.

    16. Isaiah 63:16 YHWH our Father, Redeemer and HIS NAME is from everlasting.

    17. Revelation14:1 The Lamb writes THE NAME OF FATHER on their foreheads. To me, this would be water baptism in the NAME OF YHWH).

    18. Malachi 2:10 One Father, One God created us.

    19. Zechariah 14: 9 YHWH (YAHWAH) is KING, YHWH is ONE and HIS NAME ONE.

    20. Matthew 28:19 Baptize in THE NAME of the FATHER, SON and HOLY GHOST.

    21. FATHER IS YHWH (Isaiah 63:16)

    22. The SON IS YHWH Messiah. (John 5:43

    23. I come in THE NAME OF MY FATHER)

    24. The HOLY GHOST IS YHWH (John 14:26 Comforter,

    25. The Father will send in MY NAME YHWH Messiah)

    26. Acts 2:38 Repent and be baptized in THE NAME of YHWH Messiah for the remission of your sins.

Where did the Iesous or Jesus come from? It comes from Zeus - the Greek god. In Spanish Jesus is pronounced hey-Zeus. The name Jesus can’t be reconciled to be a Hebrew name.

    1. ONE GOD YHWH (YAHWAH) Deuteronomy 6:4

    2. ONE NAME YHWH (YAHWAH) Zechariah 14:9

    3. ONE SAVIOR YHWH (YAHWAH) Isaiah 43:3,11

    4. ONE REDEEMER YHWH (YAHWAH) Isaiah 44:6

    5. ONE MAKER YHWH (YAHWAH) Isaiah 54:5

    6. ONLY ONE can bear THE NAME of YHWH (YAHWAH) and it was HIS SON YAHWAH Messiah.

By the way approximately 393 years ago there was no J in the English alphabet. His name was lesous, Which is Greek, NonHebrew, MisTranslated, ManMade Inspired.

Too many people bear the names of Jesus, Joshua, Yahoshua (common names). These names could not have been THE NAME OF THE SAVIOR; HE came in THE NAME OF HIS FATHER. Jehovah and Jesus are the perverted names of GOD and not HIS TRUE NAME. YHWH only could be HIS NAME.

Thank GOD that Jesus Name Apostolic’ have the right principle of ONE GOD, one baptism and one name. But now let us receive HIS TRUE NAME YHWH (YAHWAH).

We come to GOD in a process of levels of truth, paganism to Catholism to Protestant to Trinity Holy Ghost filled to Jesus Name Apostolic to YAHWAH Apostolic.

GOD is taking a church out of a church and re-establishing HIS RIGHTFUL NAME to HIS people. Please be part of it. Out of 100 of our assembly we had 20 to receive HIM in water baptism and 80 to refuse the revelation of HIS TRUE NAME.

I lost all teachers and all musicians. But that is all right because HIS NAME is still YHWH (YAHWAH) and I am called by HIS NAME. I want to please GOD and I do not want to please man or an organization. Straight is the gate and narrow is the way and few will choose HIS NAME.

In critic of the book “In the Name of Jesus” Dr. David K. Bernard gives a very poor presentation in defense of the name Jesus. Let us go to chapter four, Dr. Bernard has no clue that there are YAHWAH Apostolics, the ONLY TRUE ONE GOD, ONE PEOPLE OF THE NAME OF YAHWAH.

Biblical scholars all recognize as truth that the TANACH (Old Testament) has THE NAME YHWH 6,832. Also agreed upon is that Jehovah is an erroneous translation of YAHWAH mixed with Adonai. If you keep this in mind then we know the GOD of the Old Testament is YHWH and because HE changes not (Malachi 3:6) we know HE is the GOD of the New Testament.

Let us talk about the name Yahoshua. Yahoshua is Hebrew and English translation is Joshua. So the Messiah, according to this knowledge should have been named in English as Joshua Christ. According to the thesis of Doctor Bernard he states on page 36 that Yahwah of the Old Testament manifested HIMSELF in the flesh to be our SAVIOR. THE SAVIOR stated in John 5:43 “I come in THE NAME OF MY FATHER.

How can GOD change HIS NAME? He cannot. The legal name of my wife is Linda, it means pretty but her name is not pretty, it is Linda. Psalm 54:1 Save me, 0 GOD, by YOUR NAME. THE NAME OF GOD is YAHWAH; we are saved by HIS NAME.

What do we not understand with this statement? Again Matthew 1:23 Emmanuel (with us is GOD) what do we not understand with this statement? I am in agreement with Doctor Bernard that YAHWAH was manifested in the flesh and that baby was called YAHWAH the Messiah, the same NAME AS HIS FATHER. Isaiah 63:16 YOU, 0 YAHWAH, are our FATHER, our redeemer, THY NAME is from everlasting. It does not say anywhere that the false name of Jesus is everlasting, only YAHWAH. The second argument of Dr. Bernard makes no sense whatsoever because in his argument he believes the Hebrew Apostles called the Messiah by the name Iesous - Jesus - Joshua. The Messiah was known as YAHWAH.
The Word Hallelujah is universal. YAHWAH is literally the same in every tongue (universal). George W. Bush is introduced as George W. Bush throughout every language and country. His legal name does not change to the language of the people. His name is the same (transliterated) in every language. THE NAME OF YAHWAH is pronounced literally and universally.

On page 37 Dr. Bernard states unequivocally the early church baptized in Jesus Name but later says that the name Jesus evolved from lesous in the Latin/Greek Hebrew. Did the Apostles say Joshua, Yahoshua, Iesous or Jesus? My GOD does not change names like we do clothes. Just what is HIS NAME for salvation? Is it Jesus, Iesous, Yahoshua, Joshua? Could it be so simple that it is YAHWAH the Messiah? Isaiah 47:4 as for our REDEEMER, YAHWAH of Armies is HIS NAME, the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 42:5-16 YAHWAH opened the eyes of the blind. Verse 13 YAHWAH shall go forth as a mighty Man (The Messiah). Isaiah 43:10.12 YAHWAH declares HIMSELF to be the servant (the Messiah) I, even I, am YAHWAH and beside me there is no SAVIOR.

YAHWAH is calling, “Come out of her“. Yes, GOD was merciful to save us in our ignorance even if we did not know HIS NAME. Leave that heathen man made philosophical name of Iesous, Jesus. Psalm 86:9 all nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee 0 YAHWAH and shall GLORIFY THY NAME. Psalm 145:21 My mouth shall speak the praise of YAHWAH and let all flesh bless HIS HOLY NAME forever and forever.

    Thank you for your attention,
    Pastor Paul J. Prodoehl

💜🍒💜🍒💜🍒💜🍒💜🍒💜🍒💜🍒💜🍒💜 Isaiah 42:5-16 YAHWAH opened the eyes of the blind. Thank you for your attention, Pastor Paul J. Prodoehl Acts 2:38 Repent and be baptized in THE NAME of YHWH Messiah for the remission of your sins. You can call us for prayer at (713) 494-2164 Or at 713-494-2012. . • When Was the Last Time You Truly Prayed?

We live in a generation that knows how to stay connected with everyone—except God.

Our phones never stop buzzing. Our calendars are full. Our minds are constantly occupied. We text, scroll, post, stream, and search for answers to almost everything. Yet when life falls apart, many of us discover that we’ve spent more time talking to the world than talking to the One who created it.

Prayer has quietly become one of the most neglected parts of the Christian life.

For some, prayer is now reserved for Sunday mornings, family meals, or emergencies. We pray when we’re desperate, but rarely when we’re thankful. We ask God to bless our plans, yet often forget to ask Him for His will.

But prayer was never meant to be a last resort.

It is the heartbeat of a relationship with God.

Imagine trying to build a friendship with someone you never speak to. Imagine a marriage where the husband and wife only communicate when there’s a problem. That relationship would slowly become distant. The same is true in our walk with Christ. Prayer is not a religious ritual—it is a conversation between a loving Father and His children.

Prayer also changes the atmosphere of our homes.

A family that prays together learns to forgive quicker, love deeper, and trust God through difficult seasons. Children who see their parents kneel before God learn that true strength begins with humility. A husband and wife who pray together are reminded that they are not fighting each other—they are facing life’s battles together with Christ at the center.

The Church, too, must rediscover the power of prayer.

We can have beautiful buildings, talented musicians, powerful sermons, and well-organized programs. But without prayer, we risk becoming busy while lacking spiritual power. Throughout Scripture, every great move of God was preceded by people who humbled themselves in prayer. Revival has never started with better marketing. It has always started with repentant hearts seeking God.

Our lifestyle also reflects our prayer life.

A person who genuinely spends time with God begins to speak differently, think differently, forgive more readily, and resist temptation more faithfully. Prayer doesn’t make us perfect overnight, but it gradually transforms us into the likeness of Christ. Before we change the world, God first changes us.

Today’s culture teaches us to rely on ourselves. The Bible teaches us to rely on God.

The world says, “Believe in yourself.”

Jesus says, “Without Me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

Perhaps the greatest crisis today isn’t political, economic, or technological.

    Perhaps it is spiritual.

We’ve become skilled at explaining prayer while forgetting to practice it.

God is still listening. His ear has not grown deaf, nor has His arm grown weak. He still welcomes every broken heart, every anxious mind, every grateful soul, and every repentant sinner who comes to Him through Jesus Christ.

The question is not whether God still answers prayer.

The question is whether we still believe enough to pray.

“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)

  • The Story Behind the Hymns
THE STORY BEHIND "MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE"

In the early nineteenth century, a young American theology student named Ray Palmer found himself reflecting deeply on his faith and his personal relationship with God. Palmer had experienced seasons of spiritual struggle and searching, and during this time of contemplation he felt a strong desire to express his renewed trust in Christ.

Around 1830, while studying in New Haven, Connecticut, he wrote a poem in his notebook which was not written for publication or for church use but it was simply a heartfelt prayer put into words. In the lines he addressed Jesus as the “Lamb of Calvary,” expressing sincere longing for forgiveness, guidance, and a life fully devoted to God.

For several years the poem remained largely unnoticed. Then Palmer met Lowell Mason, one of the most respected church musicians and hymn composers in America at the time and during their meeting, Palmer showed Mason the poem almost casually, not thinking much of it, but when Mason read the words, he was deeply moved by their sincerity and spiritual depth. He immediately recognized that the poem carried the kind of devotion that could speak to many believers.

Mason decided to compose a melody for the text and later created the tune known as “Olivet.” When he later presented the finished music to Palmer, he told him that the hymn would likely become the work for which he would be most remembered. Mason’s instinct proved correct. The hymn was soon published in 1831 in a collection of church music titled Spiritual Songs for Social Worship, and it quickly found its way into churches across the United States and beyond.

The hymn resonated deeply with worshippers because it reads like a personal prayer. Its words speak of looking to Christ in faith, asking for forgiveness, strength, and guidance through life’s difficulties. Over the years, “My Faith Looks Up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary” became one of the most cherished hymns of devotion, often sung in moments of reflection, worship, and spiritual renewal.

What began as a private expression of one young man’s faith eventually became a hymn sung by millions around the world, reminding believers in every generation to lift their hearts in trust toward the Savior.

  • The Story Behind the Hymns
THE STORY BEHIND "LORD THY WORD ABIDETH "

Lord, Thy Word Abideth is a beloved hymn that celebrates the enduring power of God's Word as a constant guide for believers. The text was written in 1861 by Henry Williams Baker (1821–1877), an Anglican priest and editor of the influential hymnal Hymns Ancient and Modern. Baker wrote the hymn to emphasize the Bible's unchanging truth in a world of constant change.

The hymn draws inspiration from several passages of Scripture, particularly Psalm 119:105: "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path," and Isaiah 40:8: "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever." These verses are reflected in the hymn's message that God's Word remains steadfast, providing wisdom, comfort, and direction through every season of life.

Its well-known tune, Ravenshaw, was composed by William Henry Monk (1823–1889), one of the most respected English church musicians of the Victorian era. Monk's simple yet dignified melody perfectly complements the hymn's reassuring message, making it a favorite in Anglican, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and many other Christian traditions.

For more than 160 years, Lord, Thy Word Abideth has been sung in churches, schools, and Bible services around the world. It reminds Christians that while cultures, nations, and circumstances may change, God's truth remains eternal. The hymn continues to encourage believers to trust the Scriptures as the reliable foundation for faith and daily living.

  • DEMONISM IN THE LIGHT OF SCRIPTURE. Part 2 of 2.
Continued. Others propose the psychosomatic theory. So-called cases of demon "possession" were in actuality physical or mental disorders. With our present knowledge of medicine and psychiatry, many alleged instances of demon activity can now be explained as forms of psychosis or psychoneurosis, habits, addictions, psychological states of the mind, or other physical or mental disorders.

Contrary to such rationalistic explanations, the Scriptures, without reservation, look upon evil spirits, not as mere hallucinations, influences, habits, functional disorders, states of the mind, or psychological problems, but as intelligent personalities. Frequently, behind what may appear to the skeptic to have some logical or natural explanation, Jesus discerned an evil, supernatural entity causing the problem which plagued its human victim. Thus, He "rebuked" the fever in Peter's mother-in-law (Luke 4:39), loosed a woman who had been bowed together by Satan for eighteen years by casting out a "spirit of infirmity" (Luke 13:11-16), and set the "insane" Gadarene free from a legion of demonic spirits (Mark 5).

Possession by numerous malevolent spirits is not uncommon even in this day, as those who have dealt with such oppressed victims can attest. Their numbers may range from a dozen or more to hundreds, and in one instance Satan actually admitted to a pastor through the lips of the victim he possessed that there were 1,067 demons in this individual.

At other times, the Scriptures indicate the reality of demonic spirits by clearly distinguishing between mere functional disorders and those conditions which result from demonic oppression. We are told in Mark 1:32-34 that the people brought unto Jesus" ... all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with demons ... and he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many demons. "In Matthew 8:16 disease and demon possession are also distinguished, as they are in Mark 16:17-18, and in Matthew 10:1, where Jesus gave the twelve disciples "power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease."

The Scriptures show many instances where physical and mental oppression are caused by the presence and activity of evil spirits. In the case of the lunatic child. We read that "Jesus rebuked the demon; and he departed out of him: and the child was healed from that very hour" (Matthew 17:14-18). In Acts 10:38 we are told that Jesus healed all who were oppressed of the devil. Again in Matthew 12:22 the frequent relationship between demon possession and physical affliction is clearly seen: "Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw."

Demon oppression or possession is never treated merely as an organic disease or functional disorder by Jesus. If the cause was an evil spirit, He cured the oppressed individual by casting out the demon.

Further evidence that Jesus was often dealing, not with mere organic disorders or superstition in the minds of the people, but with distinct intelligences, is seen in:
The Lord's direct commands to the evil spirits (Mark 5:8); Their recognition of Him ("And unclean spirits, when they saw him ... cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God," Mark 3:11); Their display of certain attributes of personality, such as: Feeling (Mark 5:7), Fear (Luke 8:31), Intelligent speech (Mark 5:7-12), Knowledge (Acts 16:16), and Their personal names ("My name is Legion," Mark 5:9).

Demons today often identify themselves by name or character as spirits of fear, pride, doubt, lust, resentment, and so on. In one ministry, they have personally heard demons identify themselves either by name or by character. In one instance, a demon identified himself, saying, "I am antichrist" (i.e., the spirit of antichrist); another confessed, "I am the demon of death."

The various kinds of evil spirits and the nature of their work and activity in human life and affairs will be covered in detail in our further studies.

There is an almost infinite variety of demonic spirits. There are, for example, spirits of lust, infirmity, insanity, suicide, fear, hate, and pride, as well as deaf, dumb, and blind spirits, who vary in personality, power, appetites, and intelligence. As disembodied spirits, their purpose is to oppress or possess their victims, with the ultimate intention of either the mental, spiritual, or physical destruction of the individual.

    C. How Demons Gain Access.
How do demonic spirits gain access to their victims to vex, oppress, or possess their minds or bodies? As Matthew 12:43-45 and Mark 5:6-13 clearly indicate, demons as disembodied spirits have no "rest" unless they can find habitation in a physical body, preferably human, through which they can satisfy their own appetites, lusts, and desires. Counseling with oppressed and afflicted individuals has confirmed that there are basically four avenues which can be opened whereby demons gain access to the mind or body: (1) emotional crises, (2) sin, (3) doubt, skepticism, and ridicule of divine things, and (4) occult involvement.

    1. Emotional crises.
It is generally assumed that cases of oppression by evil spirits can be traced to some form of sin or weakness of character on the part of the afflicted individual. But this is not always true. Unusual emotional experiences such as extreme fright, or prolonged, abnormal grief over personal loss can open doors to demonic oppression. Traumatic or shocking experiences can weaken an individual's resistance. The child who witnesses the murder of his parents, or the young lady who finds out she will lose both her legs because of an automobile accident, are typical of those who would be extremely vulnerable to oppression or invasion by such spirits. In one instance, counseling revealed that the emotional and spiritual problems of a person needing deliverance began with a terrible fright at a very early age. Another was set free from a spirit of mental illness, for which he had been institutionalized, after the cause was traced to a severe emotional crisis which he had experienced.

Most people do not realize the effect that their attitudes of mind, their fears and doubts, and their negative confessions can have upon them in times of emotional crisis. The wrong confession, especially when one's body is weakened by accident or illness, or when one is in a state of shock, can open the door to invasion by oppressing spirits. Spirits of infirmity may enter under such conditions, when resistance is low, resulting in deformities, chronic conditions, or even death.

In the case of one individual, serious depression and mental illness resulted from harboring guilt feelings since childhood over the accidental death of a younger member of the family for which she blamed herself. She was later liberated from these oppressing spirits.

In another instance, an individual became oppressed when a deceiving spirit convinced her that she had grievously sinned by submitting to surgery instead of trusting God to heal her. Convinced by Satan that God would not forgive her, she suffered chronic depression and psychic oppression, and was bound with a spirit of fear to the point of mental collapse, before she was liberated.

Such disturbances and afflictions cannot be dismissed merely as psychosomatic disorders, or results of mental suggestion, but accord well with the teachings of Scripture. We are told, "as [a man] thinketh in his heart so is he" (Proverbs 23:7), that "death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21), and that we can be "snared" by the words of our mouth (Proverbs 6:2). But the same verses also reveal that a positive confession of the Word of God can bring salvation, healing, blessing and deliverance (Mark 11:23-24; Romans 10:10; Psalm 91; Revelation 12:11, etc.).

    2. Sin.
Such sins as lust, alcohol and drug addiction, theft, sexual excesses, and other sinful habits or forms of intemperance and immorality are frequently the cause of invasion by unclean spirits (cf. John 5:14; Mark 5:8) One psychically afflicted individual acknowledged during counseling with a certain pastor that he actually saw a demon of lust take possession of him as he entered the apartment of his mistress. In another instance, drug addiction resulted in possession by evil spirits from which deliverance was needed. Preoccupation with unclean sexual thoughts and self-abuse led one young man into total possession by a spirit of insanity and a spirit of suicide.

Moreover, sins such as prolonged attitudes of hate toward another, resentment, extreme envy, jealousy, intolerance, pride, uncontrolled anger, lying, desire for revenge, and so on, subject individuals to the influence of or invasion by the powers of darkness. As a result, they will show less and less control over these attitudes and feelings, while emotional outbursts, compulsive lying, thoughts of violence and aggression, mental breakdown, depression, unpredictable impulses or behavior, psychic oppression, and other forms of antisocial or psychotic behavior will increase. A certain pastor has dealt with more than one situation in which resentments, smoldering beneath the surface for years, have had serious consequences.

In two instances, women were invaded by spirits which caused physical and mental breakdown because they opposed and resented the careers chosen by their husbands. In other cases, hate and resentment led to severe oppression from Satan. Compulsive lying, which indicates the influence of lying spirits in an individual, has been the consequence in some cases where willful lying was not brought under control. In one instance, a child who had become a chronic liar said that "voices'' told her to call her school with a "bomb scare." The assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King were obvious examples where demonic spirits of hate and intolerance influenced and controlled the perpetrators of these crimes.

    3. Doubt, skepticism, and ridicule of divine things.
Those who persist in negative or skeptical attitudes of mind concerning divine truth, or who resist the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit, stand in grave danger of becoming bound by spirits of doubt, deception, and unbelief. King Saul became possessed by an evil spirit as a result of his persistent rebellion against God's revealed will, and his persecution of David, God's anointed servant. The apostle Paul states plainly that Satan, "the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not" (II Corinthians 4:4), and that in the last days, upon those who do not receive the truth, "God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness" (II Thessalonians 2:11-12; cf. Matthew 13:10-15; I Timothy 4:1-3).

Some adverse effects of demonic influence which result from skepticism and/or ridicule of divine truth are progressive spiritual deterioration, increased resistance to the supernatural and miraculous, religious delusions and doctrinal errors, inner turmoil and anxieties concerning religious matters, and the inability to concentrate on the Bible and prayer. In some instances, blasphemous thoughts against Christ, opposition to the Holy Spirit, belligerency against ministers of the gospel, and open scorn and ridicule of Christianity in general are the consequences. A certain pastor saw cases where demons which had just been exercised from the victim immediately entered into skeptics who had come to ridicule and criticize.

    4. Occult involvement.
The larger part of this book will be devoted to occult participation or involvement, its adverse consequences, and the means of liberation from occult oppression and bondage. Perhaps more than any other, this is the avenue through which the powers of darkness gain access to oppress and afflict their victims. The majority of persons a certain pastor counseled have either been involved in some form of occult activity or know of its presence in their family history. The present-day neurosis epidemic; the increase in psychic afflictions and other mental and physical disorders; and the flood of crime, wickedness, and chaos world-wide, indicate just how successfully the demonic powers have gained control over men and women everywhere through occult involvement.

The Work and Activity of Demonic Spirits.
Earlier, we indicated the broad scope of the kingdom of darkness and its vast hierarchy of wicked spirits, consisting of thrones, dominions, principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world and spirit-forces in the heavenlies. Scripture designates Satan as head of the present world-system, ruling in world affairs. The satanic confederacy influences men and nations everywhere, affecting secular and religious institutions alike. Our purpose now is to show Scriptural evidence of how these demonic spirits influence and oppress the lives of individuals in three areas: the physical, the mental, and the spiritual.

    1. Physical infirmities.
The Gospels contain many references to evil spirits whose primary objective was to afflict their victims with some physical infirmity. These same peculiarities are still in evidence everywhere today.

    (1) Dumb spirits.
A spirit can take possession of, or afflict, some organ of the body, or bind the nervous center controlling some function. Thus, an evil spirit causing dumbness (the inability to speak) paralyzes the speech faculties. In Matthew 9:32-33, we are told that the dumb man was possessed by a demon, and when the demon was cast out by Jesus the dumb man began to speak.

    (2) Deaf spirits.
When the malevolent spirit binds or afflicts the auditory nerves, the result is deafness. When both speech and hearing are affected, the afflicted individual is termed a deaf-mute. Medically, a deaf-mute's inability to speak is due to congenital (early) deafness. But Jesus treated such a condition as being caused by an evil spirit, which He cast out (Mark 9:25).

    (3) Blind spirits.
When the optic nerve is paralyzed by a spirit, the condition will not respond to surgery (Matthew 12:22). Satan also afflicts people with diseases of the eyes or ears which do not result in blindness or deafness.

    (4) Infirm spirits.
This classification includes an infinite variety of oppressing spirits ranging from those which act upon the spinal cord, the muscles, or the brain, causing such afflictions as deformity, atrophy of the muscles, lameness, and so on (Luke 13:11-17), to spirits causing asthma, cancer, tumors, heart disease, paralysis, migraine headaches, insomnia, tuberculosis, and such like. Epilepsy, a disease affecting the central nervous system, results in severe physical convulsions and loss of consciousness, and may be either an organic affliction or an epileptic spirit. If it is a spirit, then exorcism is the only way to set the oppressed individual free.

    2. Mental oppression.
There are spirits whose primary function is to assault the mind with evil or unclean thoughts, feelings of depression, apathy, fear, and anxiety, or with temptations ranging from pride to a resignation to failure. Spirits of insanity may take possession of the mental faculties, disrupting normal, rational thought processes. The affected individual exhibits various mental, emotional, and behavioral abnormalities. Suicide spirits also invade the mind, attempting to drive the oppressed individuals to self-destruction or self-injury (Mark 9:17-22), while others relentlessly press their victims into some form of shameful or antisocial behavior (Mark 5:2-5).

Other spirits plague their victims with fears, depression, anxiety, feelings of apprehension, panic, or hysteria. Often these individuals are hypersensitive and irritable, or exhibit destructive emotions of hate, rage, rebellion against authority, resentment, unpredictable moods and impulses, or other psychopathic abnormalities. We will discuss these in greater detail under the heading "Mental and Emotional Disturbances and Abnormalities," in our further studies.

    3. Spiritual oppression and delusion.
Without a doubt, the forces of darkness are the most aggressive, cunning, and deceptive in the realm of the spirit. Satan's Basic strategy is to gain control of the lives of men in order to fulfill his evil purposes through them in his warfare against the kingdom of God. Satan reserves his most intelligent, cunning, and powerful spirits for work in this dimension. One such evil spirit, a "prince" in the satanic hierarchy, was powerful enough to withstand for three weeks a heavenly messenger sent to Daniel, until Michael, the archangel, was dispatched to help him (Daniel 10). These spirits are of a higher rank, being the "world-rulers of the darkness of this age" (Ephesians 6:12). They possess and control humans, either in the realm of world affairs or by speaking through Spiritist mediums, by functioning as spirits of divination in fortune tellers and clairvoyants, or by influencing false prophets and deluded religious teachers and leaders.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of insight into Satan's strategy and methods of operation in the area of the spirit. But we are not without help, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds" (II Corinthians 10:4). Every believer is admonished to: Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. -Ephesians 6:11.

The activities of these spirits are often cloaked with respectability. Religious seducing spirits may appear in clerical or religious garb. As an "angel of light" or as "ministers of righteousness" (II Corinthians 11:14-15) they take up residence in churches, seminaries, and other religious organizations and institutions. They lure the gullible into modernistic churches or schools, or into false cults, where they deceive them into embracing religious errors including heresies, legalism, false revelations, and many other forms of religious delusion and practice, as well as denial of the inerrancy of Scripture.

Seducing spirits are taking advantage of the revival of witchcraft and the worldwide interest in occult and psychic phenomena. They are using every opportunity to deceive and ensnare the unwary in all forms of occultism, often clothing it with a respectable aura of religiosity. This is seen in Spiritualism, and in the increasing use of ESP, spirit healing, and the seance in religious services. Lying spirits are active in this sphere, seducing and deceiving their victims, as well as inducing them to lie or deceive others (I Kings 22:19-23; Acts 5:1-11). I John 4:1 warns us not to believe every spirit in the sphere of religion, but to test them. The Bible predicts the increased activity of lying and deceiving spirits at the close of the present age, and they are already going forth to seduce and deceive (II Thessalonians 2:10-12; I Timothy 4:1-3; Matthew 24:11,24).

These spirits often appear in intellectual and cultural garb. In the educational, social, cultural, and political realms of world affairs, spirits of intellectualism, pride, aggrandizement, and avarice or greed have far greater influence than most people are aware. Many outstanding personalities have been influenced or directed by these spirits, or have participated in some form of occultism, subjecting themselves to possible influence of seducing spirits. Many of the world's leading poets, novelists, philosophers, musicians, scientists, politicians, and religious leaders are or have been interested or involved in some form of occultism or other psychic phenomena, often admitting it without apology.

The noted philosopher, Socrates, openly acknowledged that he was guided and inspired by his "Daemon" (demon). Dr. Carl Jung, world renowned psychiatrist, was possessed with psychic powers, and had many psychic experiences. Dr. Nandor Fodor, a well-known psychoanalyst, reported that Jung conversed with a spirit-guide named Philemon, often had horoscopes cast for his patients, and wrote his doctoral thesis on the subject of occult phenomena. Thomas Edison's parents were Spiritualists who conducted seances in their home. Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science, is said to have worked as a professional medium in New York. Joseph Smith, founder of Mormonism, received his "revelations” from a discarnate spirit named Moroni. Emanuel Swedenborg, the scientist-theologian whose followers founded the Churches of the New Jerusalem based on his teachings, reportedly communicated with the "dead" on frequent occasions.

It is common knowledge that seances were held in the White House during the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. Spirits speaking through mediums are said to have influenced Lincoln's decision concerning the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln's apparition has reportedly been seen in the White House by others (a common phenomenon in houses where seances have been held), most notably by Queen Wilhelmina of Holland, during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Psychic Jeane Dixon claims to have been invited to the White House more than once for consultation by the late President Roosevelt, whose death she predicted. Woodrow Wilson is said to have consulted mediums for guidance during the First World War. Mackenzie King, a former Prime Minister of Canada was said to have been active in Spiritualism and to have sought spirit guidance in affairs of state, according to Fred Archer, writer on spiritualism and psychic research.

Archer also reported that Sir Winston Churchill acknowledged he used the planchette at times, and had done automatic or spirit writing. The psychic interests of Britain's Queen Victoria, as well as that of W.E. Gladstone, nineteenth century Prime Minister of England, included attendance at seances and seeking communication with the dead. In fact, Archer cited records showing that the British royal family has had contact with spiritualism for over a century, and that King George of Greece was an active Spiritualist.

Arthur Ford, a Disciples of Christ minister and psychic medium, stated in his book, Nothing So Strange, that he conducted seances for many notable personalities, including many important persons in government: generals, admirals, ambassadors, congressmen, senators, and members of the State Department. Through his Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship, many church leaders have become involved in psychic matters, and occultism has thereby made inroads into churches of various denominations, as well as other religious organizations.

Like Jeane Dixon, Ford's psychic powers brought him invitations for consultations and demonstrations far and wide. He conducted seances in Hyde Park Methodist Church of Chicago, and many others. He held seances for Upton Sinclair, the American novelist; Dr. Sherwood Eddy, founder of the YMCA in the Orient; Ruth Montgomery, author of A Gift of Prophecy (about Jeane Dixon); Glenn Clark, founder of CFO; and Dr. Ozora Davis, former president of Chicago Theological Seminary. He demonstrated his psychic abilities before a committee appointed several years ago by the Archbishop of Canterbury to inquire into the claims of spiritualism.

The phenomenal revival of interest in astrology has been featured in Time magazine. In the United States alone there are thousands of astrologers, full or part time, who chart the heavens for millions of interested followers. A Time magazine listing of Americans interested in this form of divination included J.P. Morgan, Mary Pickford, Robert Cummings, Marlene Dietrich, Peter Lawford, and Ronald Reagan.

Astrologers were engaged by several governments during World War II to produce astrological calculations for propaganda purposes; in addition they made predictions as to the enemy's tactics and the outcome of the war. Horoscopes were cast for all the Allied and Axis leaders and exhaustively analyzed. In Nazi Germany, Himmler employed a corps of clairvoyants and astrologers, while the astrologer Louis de Wohl claims to have functioned in this capacity for the British government. And the Russians evidently had an astrologer who served under Stalin and Krushchev.

In the literary field, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes detective mysteries, was active in spiritualism and also its avid defender. Charles Dickens, who had psychic experiences, once confided that every word uttered by the characters in his novels was distinctly heard by him as spirit voices before being written down. Writers on the occult report that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the American poet, was interested in psychic phenomena and attended seances, and that Lord Tennyson and John Ruskin shared interest in the psychic field. Harriet Beecher Stowe, said to be psychic from childhood, stated that she did not really originate Uncle Tom's Cabin but that it came to her in vision. Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), American author and humorist, was a member of the (occult) Society for Psychical Research, and reported his own psychic experiences.

Horror fiction, with its monsters, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, murders, and gruesome and revolting subject matter, is plainly of occult origin. Novels such as Frankenstein, Dracula, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the horror fiction of Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Goethe, and Charles Dickens all point to occult sources. Of course, the works of Shakespeare are replete with witches, ghosts, magic, blood and murder.

Current interest in the occult is reflected in the immense increase in the sale of occult literature, the abundance of horror movies, plays and television programs which reflect occult influence, and the popularity of monster and horror comics for children. The bizarre, strange, macabre, and demonic seem to have captivated the minds of young and old alike. Is it possible that this increase in fascination with the occult, and the increase in physical, emotional, and psychic disturbances today, are merely coincidental? I hope you join us next time for our further studies on these topics. Edited. Shared.

God willing, more will be posted soon. All glory to Jesus alone.
❤️DEMONISM IN THE LIGHT OF SCRIPTURE. "In Matthew 8:16 disease and demon possession are also distinguished, as they are in Mark 16:17-18, and in Matthew 10:1, where Jesus gave the twelve disciples "power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease." The Scriptures show many instances where physical and mental oppression are caused by the presence and activity of evil spirits. In the case of the lunatic child. We read that "Jesus rebuked the demon; and he departed out of him: and the child was healed from that very hour" (Matthew 17:14-18). In Acts 10:38 we are told that Jesus healed all who were oppressed of the devil. Again in Matthew 12:22 the frequent relationship between demon possession and physical affliction is clearly seen: "Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw." Demon oppression or possession is never treated merely as an organic disease or functional disorder by Jesus. If the cause was an evil spirit, He cured the oppressed individual by casting out the demon. Further evidence that Jesus was often dealing, not with mere organic disorders or superstition in the minds of the people, but with distinct intelligences, is seen in: The Lord's direct commands to the evil spirits (Mark 5:8); Their recognition of Him ("And unclean spirits, when they saw him ... cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God," Mark 3:11); Their display of certain attributes of personality, such as: Feeling (Mark 5:7), Fear (Luke 8:31), Intelligent speech (Mark 5:7-12), Knowledge (Acts 16:16), and Their personal names ("My name is Legion," Mark 5:9). Demons today often identify themselves by name or character as spirits of fear, pride, doubt, lust, resentment, and so on. In one ministry, they have personally heard demons identify themselves either by name or by character. In one instance, a demon identified himself, saying, "I am antichrist" (i.e., the spirit of antichrist); another confessed, "I am the demon of death." The various kinds of evil spirits and the nature of their work and activity in human life and affairs will be covered in detail in our further studies. Edited. Shared. ❤️ God willing, more will be posted soon. All glory to Jesus alone.

    DEEPER REALITIES OF PRAISE

[Why You Must Sing God's Praise With Understanding]!

    LEAD SCRIPTURES

"For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding."
    — Psalm 47:7

"But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel."
    — Psalm 22:3

"And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick..."
    — 1 Chronicles 15:16

"And the Levites which were the singers... stood at the east end of the altar... and praised the LORD..."
    — 2 Chronicles 5:12-13

"So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God."
    — 2 Chronicles 5:14

    INTRODUCTION

PRAISE IS MORE THAN A SONG

One of the greatest misconceptions in Christianity is the assumption that praise is merely singing.

    Yet Scripture commands:

    "Sing ye praises with understanding."
    — Psalm 47:7

This command immediately reveals that God is not merely interested in sounds.

    He is interested in understanding.

God is not merely seeking singers.

    He is seeking enlightened worshippers.

    Jesus declared:

"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
    — John 4:24

A song without understanding may entertain people.

A song with understanding can move heaven.

A song without understanding may excite emotions.

A song with understanding can release divine manifestations.

This is why the Levitical singers did not merely perform music.

    They ministered unto God.

"And the Levites... stood every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even."
    — 1 Chronicles 23:30

The difference between music and praise is understanding.

The difference between performance and ministration is understanding.

The difference between entertainment and spiritual impact is understanding.

When praise ascended from the temple under Solomon's administration, the glory of God descended so heavily that the priests could not continue ministering.

"For the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God."
    — 2 Chronicles 5:14

    The question therefore becomes:

What exactly must a believer understand before offering praise unto God?

    THE DEEPER REALITIES OF PRAISE

    1. UNDERSTANDING THE RECIPIENT OF PRAISE

"For God is the King of all the earth."
    — Psalm 47:7

Praise begins with understanding who God is.

God is not merely a helper.

    He is King.

He is not merely a provider.

    He is Sovereign.

    He is not merely powerful.

    He is Omnipotent.

"Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised."
    — Psalm 145:3

A worshipper who understands God's person praises differently.

A worshipper who understands God's authority praises differently.

A worshipper who understands God's greatness praises differently.

    (a) Understanding His Person

"Before the mountains were brought forth... even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God."
    — Psalm 90:2

    He is eternal.

    He is self-existent.

    He is uncreated.

He is God all by Himself.

    (b) Understanding His Position

"The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all."
    — Psalm 103:19

He occupies the highest throne in existence.

    Every government is beneath Him.

    Every kingdom answers to Him.

Every authority derives legitimacy from Him.

    (c) Understanding His Power and Authority

"All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth."
    — Matthew 28:18

    Nothing is impossible with God.

    No circumstance intimidates Him.

    No problem overwhelms Him.

    No battle exhausts Him.

Praise rises naturally when revelation increases.

    2. UNDERSTANDING THE COMPONENTS OF PRAISE

"O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together."
    — Psalm 34:3

    Praise possesses several dimensions.

    (a) Adoration

"Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name."
    — Psalm 29:2

Adoration focuses on who God is.

    (b) Exaltation

"Exalt ye the LORD our God."
    — Psalm 99:5

Exaltation lifts God above every circumstance.

    (c) Magnification

"O magnify the LORD with me."
    — Psalm 34:3

Magnification enlarges our perception of God's greatness.

    (d) Thanksgiving

    "In every thing give thanks."
    — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

    Thanksgiving acknowledges God's goodness.

    (e) Celebration

"Let them praise his name in the dance."
    — Psalm 149:3

Celebration expresses joy in God's victories.

    Praise therefore is not one-dimensional.

It is a spiritual language with multiple expressions.

    3. UNDERSTANDING THE PRAISE SINGER OR WORSHIPPER

"Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD?"
    — Psalm 24:3

    The worshipper must understand himself.

    (a) Understanding Spiritual Qualifications

"He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart."
    — Psalm 24:4

    God values purity.

    God values sincerity.

    God values integrity.

    (b) Understanding Spiritual Calling

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood."
    — 1 Peter 2:9

Every believer possesses a priestly ministry unto God.

Praise is not merely an activity.

It is part of our priestly assignment.

    (c) Understanding Earthly Position

"Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD."
    — Psalm 150:6

    Whether king or servant.

    Whether rich or poor.

    Whether known or unknown.

Every breathing creature owes God praise.

    THE ART OF MINSTRELSY
    [A SPIRITUAL PERSPECTIVE]

"And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him."
    — 2 Kings 3:15

Throughout Scripture, minstrels were more than musicians.

    They were spiritual facilitators.

They created atmospheres conducive for divine manifestation.

Music in Scripture was often connected with prophecy.

It was connected with spiritual sensitivity.

It was connected with divine encounters.

"And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee... and thou shalt prophesy."
    — 1 Samuel 10:5-6

The true minstrel understands that his primary audience is God.

"Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him."
    — Psalm 105:2

    Minstrelsy is not performance.

    It is ministry.

    It is not self-promotion.

    It is God-exaltation.

    It is not entertainment.

    It is spiritual administration.

The biblical minstrel understands that every note carries responsibility.

    Every song carries influence.

    Every sound contributes to atmosphere.

When the Levites ministered in unity, God's glory filled the temple.

"Then the house was filled with a cloud."
    — 2 Chronicles 5:13

True minstrelsy therefore aims at one thing:

    Hosting God's presence.

    WISDOM NOTES

Praise without understanding produces noise; praise with understanding produces encounters.

Revelation determines the quality of worship.

Your praise can never rise above your knowledge of God.

Worshippers who understand God's greatness rarely struggle with gratitude.

The atmosphere of praise often becomes the atmosphere of miracles.

Praise shifts attention from problems to God's supremacy.

The greatest audience of every worship service is God Himself.

Minstrels are not entertainers first; they are spiritual servants first.

Wherever genuine praise ascends, divine presence often descends.

Praise is one of heaven's official languages.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

The command of Scripture is not merely to sing.

The command is to sing with understanding.

God seeks more than beautiful voices.

    He seeks enlightened hearts.

The greatest worshippers in Scripture were not necessarily the most talented.

    They were the most revealed.

    When revelation increases, praise deepens.

    When understanding grows, worship matures.

When God is seen correctly, praise becomes unavoidable.

The believer who understands God's person, God's position, God's power, the dimensions of praise, and his own priestly assignment will never struggle to worship.

For praise is not merely what we do.

Praise is our response to who God is.

    PRAYER LINES

Father, grant me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You.
    — Ephesians 1:17

Open my eyes to behold Your greatness and majesty.

Teach me to praise You with understanding.

Purify my heart and make me a true worshipper.

Let my praise become a habitation for Your presence.
    — Psalm 22:3

Raise up a generation of spiritual minstrels who will minister unto You in purity and truth.

Let Your glory fill our lives, churches, and gatherings as in the days of Solomon.
    — 2 Chronicles 5:14

    In Jesus' Name.

    Amen.
